BIOS update failure S55t A5237 -- how to recover?

In the middle of a BIOS update, my S55t A5237 laptop shut down.  I was working on another computer at the time but I saw it happen. First the screen went dark, then the halo light around the power button went dark. Since then when you press the power button on the S55t the halo lights up but nothing else happens. I joined the forum and searched for similar cases. The only ones I find are 5 or more years old, and those solutions, promising as they are, depend on undocumented procedures that very likely are not identical for the S55t. Needless to say, I urgently need data from the Toshiba's hard drive. My kingdom for a horse, and so on.  Can anyone provide an up-to-date recovery procedure? Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, it sounds like it would need to be professionally serviced. You could try removing the drive and connecting it to another computer to retrieve the data.

Now that many motherboards are coming out with a back up bios, many people are asking about how to flash the failed bios. (BIOS A or B)
All you need to do is download the bios you want to flash, then using a fat32 formated usb stick, run the forum bios flashing tool.
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
Do not begin this process unless your computer is 100% stable! Many bios failures are due to faulty ram etc, if you corrupt your "good" bios the board is dead!
1.) Remove any overclock you have.
2.) Boot using the working bios, with the memory stick inserted into the usb port.
3.) As soon as the flashing tool screen comes up and you need to input, reach down and switch to the nonworking bios. (DO NOT SWITCH FROM BIOS A TO B UNTIL THE FLASHING TOOL HAS LOADED)
    4.) Proceed with FLASH.
I don't see why this method is failing to work.
The parts missing in this tutorial may be the disable of all boot devices after the reboot after the files are loaded on the USB stick, & the USB stick may need a geometry reset using the flash tool's 'Fix My USB Key' feature prior to the loading of the files. Have nothing but the USB Key stick as the 'only' boot device for the flash. After a flash, remove the PSU power cord, remove the battery for awhile, clear CMOS, reset boot order etc., that should do it.
I tried doing this method several times....the update completes and on reboot it goes back into cold boot looping on and off on and off. I don't know what else to do to fix this.
    This is what I did.
I created the MSI flashtool setup on my USB fat 32 stick
Followed the tool setup everything was okay.
I rebooted my PC and it boot from my memory stick into the DOS setup
I physically switched my bios chip to the one that is not working
    I selected the bios update
    Update complete 100%
PC rebooted, bios is STILL broken and bootloops.
Help....I don't know what else to do.

  • Bios update failure - bios image needed - lenovo S10-3

    hello!
    i`m in big trouble now
I just have reinstalled win7 and thought that i have to install the driver AND to do a bios update. I dont know why, but now my netbook can't start up (display is off, blackscreen).
Now i read some threads how to recover the bios, BUT i dont have a bios image (oh god, i am so stupid...).
Is there any possibility to solve this problem? Maybe by getting a bios image from a other S10-3 user?
Btw, my lenovo has the Atom N550, 1GB DDR3 Ram.
Please help me. I am thankful for any advice.

  • [BIOS Update Failure] HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j021tx stuck at black screen on startup

    Hello
So I decided to update the BIOS on my laptop because it was on the recommended list of driver updates. It started off smooth at first, but then the screen turned black and just stayed like that for like an hour. Having read from other posts that BIOS updates should take a minute if properly executed, in the fear that my update is not working properly I decided to shut it down. (I had to pull out the battery to shut it down because even the power off button was not working).
But then when I switched it back on the screen remained black forever with the LED near capslock flashing twice. I tried pressing windows key and B key method but didn't make a difference, pulling out the battery and the AC power method didn't work also. I did refer to the HP help document that said "if your capslock LED is flashing twice, it means it is trying to recover the BIOS so just wait until it reboots itself properly". Well I have been waiting for 20 hours now and I am pretty sure this is not going to work out either.
Any help on what I could do at the moment? I don't want to send it to HP to get repaired cuz that will take weeks while I need it working ASAP since my semester at uni has started already and I am an IT major!
And shame on you HP...why recommend it to me when the update is not proven to be 100% safe....
It is on Windows 8.1 64 bit,

  • 890GXM-G65 BIOS update failure

I just assembled a PC with the 890GXM-G65 motherboard, 4 GB Kingston DDR3-1333 memory (2x KVR1333D3N9/2G), Athlon II X2 245 processor, Nvidia 8500GT video card. BIOS revision was 1.6. Although I intended to do a clean Windows 7 x64 install later, initially and with only minor adjustments I was able to successfully boot from my HDD transplanted from my old PC with Windows 7 x86.
I decided to update to BIOS 1.7 because I built this system in an emergency and on a tight budget, hence the Athlon II X2 and the reused old video card and HDD, but I intend to upgrade to a Phenom II X6 and a better card soon, and I remembered having seen the information on MSI's Web site, on the processor compatibility list, that revision 1.7 was required to support hexa-core processors. Later I found that the information on that page had been corrected to a mere version 1.2, but by then it was too late.
I downloaded the ZIP file with the BIOS 1.7 update (7642v17.zip) from MSI's Web site and extracted it. I tried to run the executable (AFUD4310.EXE) from within a Windows 7 command prompt, but I saw a message that the program could not run in that OS. I tried to perform LiveUpdate from MSI's site, but apparently it wasn't compatible either (Windows 7 and IE 8), because nothing happened and it kept returning to the same screen, even though I had enabled all ActiveX options for MSI's site. Then I saved the BIOS binary (A7642AMS.170) to a FAT-formatted USB stick and tried M-Flash from BIOS.
The BIOS recognized the file but said there was a "ROM dismatch" (sic). I canceled it, rebooted, re-downloaded the file, calculated the MD5 hash for the BIOS binary both on my HDD and on the USB stick and they matched, which rules out any problem with the file copy process or the USB stick hardware. I repeated the M-Flash process and since I had double-checked that the ROM file was correct, I saved my old BIOS to the same USB stick and let the flashing proceed.
The BIOS flash process went normally through the end ("Erasing ROM," "Writing ROM," etc.), with the message that the PC would reboot after 5 seconds. Which, of course, it didn't. Other than the blue LEDs and the processor fan spinning, nothing happens. Not even the GPU fan spins, and the same video card still works perfectly in my old PC, which of course I had to re-assemble - I'm writing from it now and using the same video card. I tried everything, in desperation including resetting the BIOS jumpers and removing the battery, even though I knew that's for misconfigured BIOS parameters, not for a corrupted BIOS.
Now, you don't have to tell me that a BIOS upgrade is risky. I know it, and only did it because I thought I had a good reason - to make my new PC ready for the upgrade I intend to do soon. But first, I wouldn't have done it without the incorrect information that was on MSI's Web site. Second, one expects a BIOS update to go without problems if you have the correct binary ROM file from the motherboard's manufacturer and there are no power outages or other problems that interrupt the process. Both these requisites were met. Yet now my brand-new mobo (which I stressed my limited budget to get exactly because of the X6 support and new 890GX chipset) appears to be dead.
Do I have just an expensive paperweight and a considerable loss in my bank account, or is there still hope? Can anything still be done to save my motherboard? Thanks a lot for any possible help.

so there are all lies or what ?
No, that is called marketing.  In most cases, there are no problems with M-Flash whatsoever.  However, in too many other instances there have been problems with M-Flash, that is why we warn against using it, to be on the safe side.  You can either ignore these warnings and take your chances (probably 95% success rate) or take them seriously and update the BIOS the DOS-Way and increase the success rate to 99.9999%.  It is up to you.  In case the only reason you posted your remark is to start the sort of discussion we already had hundred times in this forum, please either start your own topic and state your actual problem or just don't reply to my reply.  This is a user-to-user forum, not an MSI Technical Support or an official MSI Products complaint stations. • Ideapad S10-3 Model 0647 bios update failure, recovery possible?

I have downloaded and installed the  latest bios version 37 (2acn37ww.exe).
The flashing tool indicated success and has stored a backup of the old bios.
But, after reboot the screen stays black.
In this forum similar problems have been discussed, but none of the presented procedures did help.
Has anyone successfully recovered the bios of an Ideapad S10-3 Model 0647?
If there is a solution to the problem, please advice me.
    Greetings from Germany

    Hi and welcome,,
did you upgrade memory ? If you did .. upgrade ... insert original memory .. try to start your s10-3 machine
..press F2 to access bios, then press F9 and load default settings in order to get machine works properly after new bios update.  Lenovo cannot guarantee compatibilty with all memory manufacturers and modules..
...shut down and re-insert mem upgrade ...try to start ...

  • HP DV7T-4100 bios update failure

The bios update failed on my parents DV7T-4100, and now I need to recover it for them. I know you can use the method of holding the Windows Key and B for Bios Recovery but its not working on its own, and says "recovery failed."
Does anyone out there have the  specific files I would need to load onto a USB stick to get this thing going again, or know of another method to recover it.
    Thanks.

  • MSI X99S Xpower AC Bios Update Failure

While flashing my bios tonight to the most recent version, my pc power accidently cycled power.  It was updating the "A" bios at the time.  I can still boot via B which I successfully flashed to the most recent just before doing A.  Is there a way to recover A or is it permanent?  B boots  fine, but A just freezes on a black screen.  Any suggestions on what to do will be appreciated.  My pc specs are in my footer.

My BIOS B has the most recent for this board (1.6 dated 2015-01-17).  Yesterday, when I spoke to MSI tech support, they told me to stick the USB drive with the bios into one of the rear USB ports of the motherboard instead of the direct USB port adjacent to the BIOS selector switch on the board, restart my pc, and when I get to the bios screen to switch over the BIOS switch to A, then run M-FLASH and the A should be updated.  I did this, I can use my keyboard and mouse with this configuration, however, after I switch over to the A BIOS and start M-FLASH, I get the red 5 second restart warning, and my pc turns off and upon restart it freezes and does not even start the BIOS update for A.   Hmmmm...  At least I am part way there.  I will try again tonight.  BTW - I do not get a "please set multi BIOS switch to the target BIOS ROM then press any key to continue" dialogue box.  I will advise later tonight my results.

  • After BIOS update failure and rollback, audio hot keys detect press but do not function

All other hot keys appear to function properly, only the mute/audio-/audio+ hot keys do not work.
I can press the key and the vertical volume indicator displays but it does not move.
At this time, I suspect this has to do with the failed BIOS update yesterday. All keys functioned properly before the failed BIOS update.
All HP drivers and software are updated to latest.
Another symptom I don't know may be related is that my bluetooth headphones have refused to connect once now without a full reboot. Bluetooth would connect and speaker audio audio would be muted, and sometimes "Manage Audio Devices" indicated connected to headphones but no headphone audo.  Will warrant further watching.
The BIOS update was the most recent as of this writing and attenmpted to update only yesterday. I watched as the new BIOS progressed all the way to the point the BIOS attemnpted to flash and failed, then rolled back. I assume a backup was flashed because all my non-default BIOS settings had to be reset (non-UEFI boot, enable virtualization).
    TIA,
    Tony
BTW - I find it odd I can't just press a button to export/print my system configuration from the HP Support Assistant, I have to click every individual entry separately, but here goes...

    G'day Genlemen,
I am upgrading to 2g RAM and need to update my BIOS. However I am not able to get the program to run from Windows 7 Pro 64bit. I am trying to install 2ACN37WW.exe
When I open the program as administator it pops up for a second and disappears, I've tried running it in compatibility mode which doesn't help.
Do I need to be using a 32bit OS for the 2ACN37WW.exe to run in Windows? I have followed the txt instructions exactly.
Is there another way I can update to 2ACN37WW outside of Windows? Like the Thinkpad T serious CD BIOS update method?

  • G42-230us notebook automatic bios update failure

Last month my HP g42-230us laptop started an automatic HP update to the BIOS.  I did not request this to happen, it just started.  Afterward, the computer shut off and did not restart like it said.  So, I pressed the start button and it starts up and once Windows starts to load, it turns off.  I have tried the Win + B as suggested in other discussions.  I tried this and the HP BIOS UPDATE goes through the entire process of "Writing new BIOS Image."  It goes through all 512 blocks.  Then it verifies the BIOS image through all 512 blocks.   I receive the System Bios Recovery is Complete; however, when it tries to restart, it just shuts off.  I wait and nothing occurs.  I press the start button and I'm back to the computer shutting off right when Windows starts to load.  I have tried the WIN + B with the battery in and without (as suggested in other forums.)  My HDD is fine because I was able to pull the files off of it using a SATA adaptor.  I'd appreciate any assistance that someone could give me to try and get the computer back up and running

Vishal_g42 you would have to check with support in your area for your warranty options. It seems unlikely they will extend your warranty on a malfunctioning product, until it was proved to be functional again.

  • BIOS Update Failure Satellite L505D-S5965

I have a Satellite L505D-S5965 that was interrupted in the middle of a BIOS update. It turns on but doesn't display anything, the power and AC Adapter lights are solid and the fan is running. I tried plugging in an external monitor and using the Fn + F5 shortcut but that was unsuccessful. I was wondering which brand the BIOS was and whether they have a recovery tool? Any insight is awesome!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Reflash for INSYDE BIOS.
Using a separate computer if necessary perform the following:
    1) Download your notebook model's BIOS "*.exe" file from the Support section. Mine was: slm0v150.exe
    2) Extract the files from the "*.exe" file.
    3) Locate the file that ends with ".fd", this is your actual BIOS file.
*(for different brand BIOS's the file may have a different extension such as .rom or .bin)
    4) Rename your BIOS file to: "BIOS.fd" without the quotations.
    5) Format a USB Flash Drive to (FAT or FAT32) file system.
    6) Copy your newly named "BIOS.fd" file to the root directory of the Flash Drive. (Not inside any folders)
On the corrupt computer perform the following:
    7) Remove the Battery, AC Adapter, and Hard Drive.
    8) Plug the Flash Drive with your "BIOS.fd" file on it into any USB port.
    9) While holding the Fn and F key on your keyboard:
    a) Plug the AC adapter into your computer.
    b) Hold the Power button until the computer turns on.
    c) Release the Power button and both keys once you hear the fan turn on.
    10) Observe your Flash Drive's LED's blinking, wait until your computer turns off and remove the Flash Drive.
    11) Replace Battery and Hard Drive.
    12) You're computer should be all set!

  • Satellite L675-S7020 BIOS Update Failure - Recovery

    Good afternoon everyone,
I have a laptop that prompted me to perform a BIOS update on a L675-S7020 through the Toshiba service center.  I closed all of my programs and proceeded with the BIOS flash process.  Winplash got to about 80% then it froze and the laptop automatically restarted.
You guessed it, the laptop will no longer boot.  I turn it on, the fan kicks on for a moment and then shuts off.  Looks like I have a bad BIOS flash.
I've searched the forums and Google and I have tried several methods using the Crisis Recovery, renaming the bios rom to bios.fd, bios.wph, etc, and by pressing Fn + B.  It seems to read the flash drive and tries to flash but it never works.
I was just curious if anyone else has ran into this with the L675 model and was able to perform a successful BIOS recovery?  I called Toshiba tech support and they were unable to help me.  Thanks!

I need some desperately, my exams are coming up....can't study without my laptop. I feel very bad for it...
If anyone knows a solution for this...do help me out!!!!
The only way to fix a unit with a completely failed bios is to manually reprogram the bios chip. This requires special equipment as well as knowing exactly what to manually burn into the chip. My understanding is you can get it done for about $100 usd with the company recommended above by my friend lead.org.
The solution recommended by Lenovo is to replace the system board. My guess is they would charge you about $600 if pricing is similar to other models
What you can do is see if you are able to boot from a usb floppy drive, or bootable usb stick. If you can, then look for phoenix bios rescue program. If your lucky and it works, it should get the machine to a bootable condition where you can then use a bootable cdrom disc to flash the correct bios, as this program will only install an extremely generic bios only designed to make the unit able to receive a proper bios update.
However, if this works, then I'd run out and buy a lottery ticket, because you would be extremely lucky.
ps. If you can get the unit to beep by abusing the keyboard (holding down  a dozen or more keys,  I'm not advising you smash the thing), then there is a chance it may be able to boot from a floppy or usb.
