Bios Update or Settings Failed, HELP!

 ?(
I just updated the bios yesterday and got a reboot.
Everything seemed to be fine at first, I didnt let windows
start but entered the bios settings to see if there is
anything changed there. -I dunno why- but I changed
the cpu factor from default to 12, for my Morgan 1200
cpu. I thought it had a factor of 12. I rebooted again,
and !DANG!, nothing worked! No screen, no hdd, no
anything! I tried to clear CMOS from the jumper, I
believe JP1 or something like that, near the PCI slots,
on the edge of the board. I made it 2-3 from 1-2, wait
a few seconds and rebooted, nothing...
I set FSB to safe 100mhz rebooted, nothing.
Unplugged the cpu, re-plugged it, nothing.
What should I do??? I read from the forums that when
you clear CMOS, you should also remove power chord
and wait about 2-3 hours. is that the way it is? should
it help if I try like that? what is the expected time for a
CMOS clear up?
Please help, I hate breaking things, and I love my PC.
So I really hate breaking my PC.

 :D  :D  :D  :D  :D
All guys (and girls) thank you all!!!
At last everything is working fine.
I have downgraded to 2.4, removed the cmos battery,
removed the psu cord, cleared the cmos with the cmos
jumper, left the pc about 5-6 hours in that condition,
came back, inserted the battery, set cmos jumper to
normal position, plugged in the psu chord and that is it!!
Everything is working fine now! No more locks during
reboots. Thank you all who helped with their brilliant
experiences!
I will never ever upgrade my BIOS for sure ))

My current BIOS version is 1.00. I need update for my BIOS because my pc is giving BSOD a lot. My Bios is very old it is of 2007 in think updating bios might help me. BSOD error is 0x101 (CLOCk_WATCHDOG_TIME something). It is caused by "ntkrnlpa.exe". So Help Please!!!!
The age of the BIOS is irrelevant. If the system worked fine previously, then it is not a BIOS issue, as it does not go bad or deteriorate over time.
From what I can gather from reading about the STOP 0x101 error, you most probably have a faulty CPU.

  • Thinkpad T440s BIOS update via PXE fails with "invalid system disk"

    Hi,
I'm trying to boot via PXE to the BIOS 2.24 update ISO image because the T440s comes without a DVD drive. The Thinkpads are running RHEL 6.5 workstation installed. I'm using syslinux 6.02 and the following menu entry:
    label lenovo_t440s
menu label Lenovo Thinkpad T440s BIOS 2.24 Update
        kernel memdisk
        append initrd=lenovo/t440s/gjuj11us.iso iso
The ISO gets loaded via TFTP and seems to boot, but then an error message appears:
    Loading boot sector... booting...
    Lenovo Group Limited
    Invalid system disk
Replace the disk, and then press any key.
The Thinkpads come with the following SSD drive: SAMSUNG MZ7TD256HAFV-000L9.
Anyone had luck with updating BIOS via PXE boot?
We also have Thinkpads T430s. There the BIOS update ISO image loads, displays the menu, but when one presses "update firmware" then it freezes.
    Regards,
    Bernd

Same behaviour when I try without PXE and load memdisk and ISO file directly via GRUB using this entry in /boot/grub/grub.conf:
    title ThinkPad BIOS Update
    root (hd0,1)
    kernel /memdisk iso
    initrd /gjuj11us.iso

  • G550 BIOS update failed. Reset CMOS?

The BIOS update from Lenovo failed on my G550 rendering it useless.  I get fan and HDD action and all LEDs light up but NOTHING on screen...  The CMOS battery is soldered or glued in.  Where are the CMOS jumpers?

    Hello,
I'm new to BIOS issues, and this one sort of takes the cake. I tried to update my Lenovo G550 (serial 2958)'s BIOS to the updated x64_18CN44WW_(2.53) bios, and the computer crashed most of the way through. Now I'm dealing with a bricked Lenovo. I understand that there are warnings about letting the computer go to sleep before updating the BIOS, which I did, but I simply didn't look deeply enough to find these warnings before I attempted the update. But that doesn't matter now.
What does matter is that I'm working with a Lenovo that needs a reflashed BIOS, and right now I'm working through the options provided by this website:
    http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/2105-BIOS-Recovery-procedures
I've tried Method 1 with NTSF partitioning (on a 4GB USB stick), and Method 1 with FAT partitioning (on a 1GB USB stick), both with no success. I'm doing this with the 2.53 BIOS file from the lenovo website's updated installer, as I don't have the backup BIOS handy (it's saved on the bricked laptop).
I need some information to help me either fix my laptop. Specifically, does the Lenovo G550 (Serial 2958) definitely have a Phoenix BIOS? Are there any reports of a USB stick boot being used to successfully flash a bricked computer using the Fn-B boot method? Does the motherboard have a Joint Action Test Group port? Are there any 'legacy' BIOS files I should try to use available to Lenovo staff? What's the course of action a tech would take if I sent my Lenovo in for repairs?

  • GT60 0NE-403US - crashing - do I need BIOS update?

Hey guys, I need some advice here. Any inputs are more than welcome!
    I got a GT60 0NE-403US laptop a few weeks ago. It originally has Win8 64bits, now Win7 Ultimate 64 bits.
    bios version E16F3IMS.5OU
build date and time 11/23/2013 15:22:49
    EC version 16F3EMS1 ver5.04
    EC build 09/24/2012
I experienced many crashes and sometimes BSODs when running all type of games (even old ones).
Reading some topics here and in other forums I decided to update the EC to the Win7 version provided on MSI website.
    16F3EMS1.413.zip
That stopped all BSODs and some of the crashing problems, but not 100%. Old games are good now, but for newest games (like Crysis 3 and Bioshock Infinite) I was still getting some crashing followed by message (most of times) "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered", and from what I read about it, it CAN be related to overheating. Using MSI Afterburner for monitoring, I noticed that most of times when it's about to crash, the temperatures are above 80C (always using the cooler boost function).
I did a simple test underclocking the core clock by 20 MHz and memory clock by 40 MHz, it became much cooler than before (about 75C-79C) and experienced no more crashing after almost 1 hour of playing.
I think I've tried all type of video configurations and I'm getting out of options. The only thing I can think is to update the BIOS for Win7, but according to MSI website "If the notebook you purchased has Win7 Bios installed, please DON'T attempt to update using Windows 8 bios (or vice versa). Failure to abide may result in bricking your system.".
So the question is: Do I need/Can I update my BIOS? If not, what are my other options to this annoying problem?
    Here are the specs:
    Model: MS-16F3
    Intel i7-3630QM - 2.4GHZ Turbo 3.4GHZ
    GTX680M - 4GB GDDR5
    3 X 4GB DDR3 - 1600MHZ
    750GB SATA HDD
    NVidia driver: 314.22 WHQL
Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver: 15.28.15.64.3062
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits - all updates applied
    Thanks in advance.

I don't agree with this. The people that were having problems had the GTX675M/GTX675MX cards. This would be the first person I've seen with a problem on a GTX680M. So, I don't really think this is 100% driver related.
I'm running 314.22 and haven't had a single crash, even with my GPU overclocked.
I had problems similar to this, when the GPU got above roughly 85C I would get driver crashes such as you suggest (NOT BSOD's...but you fixed that with a bios update).
Underclocking will help, although I'm quite surprised it seems to have helped as much as you show with such a small underclock.
Honestly, the first thing I would do is perhaps check to make sure all the heatsinks are not clogged with dust. It's very unlikely, but it could happen. Then, I would consider replacing the CPU/GPU thermal compound. This should hopefully help your temperatures a bit.
If you're uncertain of doing that, I would perhaps consider doing an RMA. It seems like you have some issues with the video card.
    Thx for the suggestion darkhawk.
Actually I didn't do anything with the BIOS, I've only updated the EC.
Is it safe to update my current BIOS E16F3IMS.5OU (from what I saw on MSI website, it's only for Win8) to 30S (for Win7, my current OS)? Also, do you think updating it could help?
    Thx.

  • BIOS updating issue on Satellite 3000 -X11

    Hello,
I found a lot of people complaining of this same issue.
I found no solution posted. Most threads (now locked) ended with people saying "Don't update your bios if it is running okay"
This computer is not running okay and I would like to update the BIOS.
The issue is that the bios update says it failed due to the update not being for this model of computer.
The laptop is a Satellite 3000-X11. I have downloaded the v1.6 BIOS update for the Satellite 3000-X11
So I am not sure why it makes this complaint.
Please advise if there is something more I can do here.
Also please know the BIOS update procedure I followed was exactly per the instructions.
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

(sorry about the name change. Somehow ended up with two profiles when I accessed the forums via a different country site)
As per my original post... the computer does NOT run okay.
That is why I wish to try updating the BIOS.
It has issues with it not starting or starting but with a screen that is so dimmed it looks blank. Looking really hard at it I can see it is not blank, just VERY VERY dim.
I wish to update the BIOS just in case that fixes things.
The BIOS update complains that the PC is not the right model for this update, when it is the right model.
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

  • URGENT HELP NEEDED (Bios Settings Failed)

    Hey Guys,
I am having problems with my MSI Board, and don't know what to do.  I am very much a noob to BIOS/and modding so I apologize in advance.  You guys helped me a few months ago getting everything up and running and all was great for months.  Then last night I walked away from my PC for a while and when i came back a starting screen was on saying my OC Settings Failed to load, i tried other versions I saved and they all failed as well.  I ended up loading failsafe options, and got the "double start" where the computer turns on, then instantly shuts off, then turns on again.  This allowed me to load windows 7, which then started to "install updates".   So i think while i was away Windows automatically updated and rebooted... but would that effect my BIOS settings?
As I said, I had my system running perfect for months no errors or crashes at all based on the Bios setting you guys help me with in this thread:  https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=147854.0
However, last week I removed the heat sink and installed this cooler:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181010&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Water+Cooling-_-Corsair-_-35181010
All I did was unhook everything from the MB, install the cooler, and then hook everything back up to the MB.  The only thing I may have done wrong is not connect the SATA devices (my HDs and ROMS) back in the spots they were in originally.  However after I installed the cooler, they system booted right up, and I haven’t had any problems with my system for the past two weeks.  I also should note I didnt make any BIOS changes either after I installed the cooler.  So I don’t know if I should have done something there.   Yet, like I said the system has been fine for the past two weeks, no crashes or errors... it wasn’t until last night after Windows auto updated that this has begun.
The reason I need "URGENT HELP" is because of course I just a new job with deadlines due and so much video editing work I need to do.  I would be fine leaving it on failsafe settings, and forgetting the OC setting all together if I new that would make the system stable.  But considering its still doing the "double start" even in failsafe mode, im afraid if i start working my system will crash.
So I am begging anybody for any advice or help they could provide.  I will provide my system info below.  If anybody can guide me as to what settings I should set in BIOS i would appreciate it.  Or perhaps there’s a BIOS update that I should use now that I have a cooler and not a heat sink?  If you need any more information from me, just ask.  I will be monitoring this thread all day, as I desperately need help.

PROBLEM:  My OC BIOS setting wont load.  Even on failsafe i get the "double start".  I want to get back to my OC (stable) settings.
UPDATE:  Since I posted somebody messaged me mentioned I should have "reset the CMOS" after I installed the new cooler.  So I did that, and now they system starts fine without the "double start".  I am able to load one of my saved OC settings now as well (but any others causes a failure).
    NEW QUESTIONS:
          1.  Since I reset the CMOS and now the system is starting fine on my last OC settings, is it safe to assume the sytem is stable for now?
          2.  I never made any power changes or BIOS changes after I installed the new cooler.  Should I have?
          3.  After I reset the CMOS was I soupposed to reinstall the drivers from the MSI disk again?  I did not, and the system seems to be fine, but I thought I was soupposed to do that after a CMOS reset.
          4.  Is there a new BIOS version for my setup that may be better now?   Im currently on v1.5
Here is a screenshot from CPUZ of the system information currently.  This is with it booting normally after my CMOS reboot.  I just figured id post it incase it helps with any of my questions.  Thanks so much for helping guys!
