Bios Update to reduce fan speed at first level for t430s planned?

As everybody here now about the hight rpm of fan at first level (ca. 3000rpm). Lenovo changed that with bios update e.g. for T430. As I notice T430s has no update reducing the speed at first fan level.
Does anyone now if lenovo plan to bring an update to reduce the speed on T430s too?
Or will be no change for that?
Thanks
Stephan

Hi schildpad00
Can you clarify more, which model exaclty you have ( S310 or U310 ) , and also do you play a games while the fan makes that noise
Please let me know

• BIOS Update and now fan is running constantly

I got a HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC last week and have just been prompted to install a BIOS update. When it was installing the update the fans turned on and were deafening.
It's installed the update, restarted itself a few times, etc.
However the fan is now running constantly and is extremely annoying. It's not blasting out by any means and is probably nowhere near how quick and loud it could be. But this is a brand new laptop and the fan shouldn't be running - all I'm doing is browsing the internet.
What has this update done and how can I turn the fan off (I presume it will turn itself on when the heat inside the laptop requires it).
Cheers

Hello foxyjohn. I understand you are experiencing an issue where the fan is always running quickly after a BIOS update. The fan should not be running quickly, based on the information you have provided. I would like you to follow the troubleshooting in this document: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03620929
Although the title of the document is "System Fan (90b) error message on startup", the troubleshooting steps presented are relevant and effective. These steps likely will not resolve the issue. However, it will prove that you are not coincidentally experiencing a hardware issue. If these steps do not resolve the issue, you can reference this document on how to access the BIOS: h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=bph07110
The document should also inform you on how to manipulate the fan settings, in the BIOS. If you still find it difficult to navigate the BIOS, you can reference this thread for further information: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/276338-29-control-speed
If you cannot resolve the issue, I would like you to respond with the following information:
1. Your computer model number. For assistance in locating this information, please reference this website: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c00033108
2. Your operating system. For assistance in locating this information, please reference this website: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows/which-operating-system
3. Have you installed any new hardware on this computer?
4. Have you installed any new software or drivers on this computer?
Please respond as soon as possible so I can assist you. I'm only here to help!

• Reduce fan speed below default

Is there any way to reduce fan speed below the default values of 2000 rpm? I want to do this on a trial basis only to isolate some sources of noise.

This does not override the SMC controlling the fan.
Right. I was just trying to imply that for the users who may read this thread (or stumble across it through Google) who are not expert users should not be attempting to modify plist files to change their fan control settings. One wrong move in there (like putting 1000RPM in for the max speed instead of minimum, as you've said) could result in damage to the machine that their warranty would not cover. It's way too easy for the inexperienced user to accidentally screw something up that could seriously damage their machine.
Just to be clear: I do enjoy reading about the more "technical" way of doing things (like you've posted) but some people in the forums may interpret this as something that they can just do "willy-nilly", and I don't consider it to be like that at all. Only expert users should consider doing something along these lines.
Thank you, though, for sharing the method. I do enjoy reading things of this nature!

• Thinkpad Yoga 12 BIOS update disables cooling fan

This sounds a lot like a prior thread about porblems with BIOS 1.08, but that thread ended up marked as solved, while for me the issue returned on the latest BIOS update to 1.12. My CPU temp got up to 92C without the fan coming on. Conclusion: there still seems to be some kind of condition where the BIOS completely disables all cooling. I think it's the same problem as that earlier thread, and it's clearly not solved. Thankfully it IS possible to get out of this state by rolling back the BIOS version to the one that worked, instructions are posted here and three posts below that for further clarification.  Symptoms: you start noticing that the TPY gets oddly hot during normal use, or it experiences a forced shutdown due to overheating. It's also completely quiet. But: the fan itself is operational because you hear it briefly spin up during cold boot.  Given that LoneSentry mentioned that the problematic BIOS 1.08 did work on second install, there seems to be some 'random' glitch in the update process or in the BIOS. Meanwhile I'm pretty unhappy that I'm having to do continued truobleshooting on this machine.   Edit: going to the BIOS update page I saw that a newer BIOS was available (1.13), which you can install without having to disable Secure Rollback. Lo and behold. the fan is working again. The fan started blowing full speed right at the start of the EC flashing procedure. This is NOT a solution though, since this issue seems to have persisted until BIOS 1.12, and I have no reason to believe that it won't reappear on a future update.

paraloid wrote:
Well here I am on the new thread as well - and like heck the issue was resolved on the old thread. As mentioned before by myself and others on the other thread, I would update the BIOS, the fan would work for a while, then it would stop again until I updated the BIOS yet again.HOWEVER, thinking on this, and a variety of other problems I've been having with the TP Yoga (a whole lot - such buggy software), I remembered from my T61 days that the Lenovo System Update software is pretty hit and miss with finding updates. So I went to the Lenovo downloads page for the TP Yoga and indeed found a lot of software not passed onto me by the System Update.Amongst these was (TA-DA !) a utility "Lenovo Fan Test for Windows". I thought it would be useful to install in any case to test if the fan was operating properly (it was not part of the standard suite of diagnostic tools provided on my computer).Anyway since I installed it my fan has worked !!! - but only when my computer is plugged in, though this I believe is because I am using Lenovo Power Optimized (Lenovo Power Manager was another software on the site not provided to me via System Update) which I believe relies on passive cooling (throttling back processor) when only battery power is available. But now TpFan works all the time, though only in smart mode, and when I plug in the power to stream a video the computer doesn't reach boiling point and then shut down.Interesting. My fan diagnostic comes up as unavailable...

• Request MSI GTX 770 Lightning reduced fan speed rom edit

Hello,
If someone can edit or provide an edited rom with a reduced idle fan speed to 20% (from original 33%) that would be greatly appreciated.

Please pm me if you need a copy of the gtx770 lightning base rom

So I bought a new cooler - Prolimatech MK-26 and two Noctua F12 fans. I connected the fans to the fan connector on the card and... !? I can't set the fans to less than 1000RPM! Even though these fans can spin at 300RPM and even though the temperature of the GPU is around 30C. So the card does not limit the fan speed settings, it limits it's rotation speed to 1000RPM. And this limitation doesn't seem to be in BIOS.
So if you want a really silent GPU, DON'T BUY NVIDIA!!! This limitation is stupid and it has no sense (it's not related to temperature), even the stock cooler would be deadly silent in idle without this "feature". Those two F12s can cool this card down even in afterburner, with power limit set to 111%, boost clock all the time.

• New Ideapad U310, how to reduce fan speed?

Hey everyone,
I got a new ideapad U310 this weekend. I'm very happy with it, accept for the fan. It seems to go fast for no reason. I found some old topics on this forum, one with a bios update, but it does not seem to work anymore on the current bios version unfortunately.
Can anyody please help me? The fan noise is very annoying and after 2 days of working with the ideapad I rather have it turned off to get rid of the noise than continue working on it.

• Satellite Pro P200-15W: After Bios Update 1.90 fan incredibly noisy

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro P200-15W, I've recently done a BIOS update to version 1.9 and seems to have been a big mistake :-/.
After restarting the computer I had a lot of software deconfig and now the fan has become incredibly noisy.
I have the problem with the Toshiba Vista registration software, I get this message: "Vista registration has stopped working". I've read other threads, I don't want to just disable it from the start.ini file, I'd like to actually solve the problem if there's a way.
Is there a way to change the fans configuration? I've read a Toshiba post about another notebook model that had the same problem of noisy fans after a BIOS update, they gave to that a solution with a new version of BIOS, is there a way to reverse the BIOS to the previous version? (will the restore CD be helpful for that purpose?)
Cheers
Edgard

Hi
It seems the fan table was changed and renewed in the new BIOS version and therefore the fans run ofttimes.
Why the fan table was changed?
Well, usually something like this is necessary to improve decrease the internal temperature while the CPU and GPU are running with full performance.
This helps to prevent the hardware from damage!!
Usually the Recovery CD formats the whole HDD (partitions too) and installs only the Toshiba image on the notebooks HDD.
The image contains the OS, drivers and additional software and has nothing to do with the BIOS update.
But you can try to recover the notebook to see if the software issues like "Vista registration" can be solved!
If you want to reverse the BIOS you have to contact the ASP in your country!!!
Sorry but this everything what I can suggest!
Best regards

• Editting fan speed in bios (unique S/N important?)

Hello,
I was looking at the closed thread concerning requests to modify their twin frozr gtx 560 bios to the requested fan speed. I saw that Svet might release a program so that we can edit the bios ourselves.  I am wondering why the serial number of the card is requested? Is there a unique serial number check? If not, couldn't someone with the bios modded to 30% fan speed just share his bios rom?
Thank you.

Different cards have different firmware, that is why he needs the serial.
To name something, it matters what memory-chips are on the card, as such it will have a different firmware, where the model-number is the same.

• How to reduce cpu fan speed just by hardware?

Hi,
I have a K8N Neo4-F, AMD3200+ and "arctic cooling freezer 64 pro" as cpu fan. The rpm range of this fan is from 300 to 2200. I use "cool n' quiet" and "Smart CPU Fan Target with 40°C" as bios setting. When the cpu is idle ( ... just doing some typing or so on ...) it has a temperature of 32°C and the fan has ~950 RPM.
I think the fan speed is to high for this cpu load (< 5% and 1000Mhz CPU Clock). My expectation in this szenario is to have the cpu fan speed near the lower bound (300 rpm), but I don't know how to manage this (with just bios settings)  ... any hints?
Thanks a lot ...

My point was you did what D.O.T. is supposed to do without using it.
Of course it's point is to auto-overclock the system to whichever degree it's set at. The problems come in because a lot of the settings it uses aren't always compatable with a lot hardware combinations. That's why it's best to come up with your own OC settings that are stable with your parts.
It's just like how the Nvidia/ATI speedup option seems like a good idea, but works poorly in practice.
Both are more useful to the marketing dept. in having more "why tech" features available to print on the outside of the retail box than they are to the end user.

• Mac Os 10.6.6 update start the fans goes crazy

Hi to all
Some months ago (almost a year from now) my mac start to become hot after only a few minutes it started up and the fan goes crazy but I never realize why. I made some search on the internet but the only answer I found was using some software to reduce fan speed. It didn't work. I run the Hardware test but nothing strange. I also took my macbook to an apple certified repair center but they told me that nothing was wrong. I also ask to another repair center but same thing. So I left my macbook as it was with this super fan noise all the time. A quite disturbing thing but there was no solution and for what I'm doing my machine is ok so why change it? (It was the only solution they gave me)
Last day my hd broke down so I had to replace it. I took my macbook pro a1211 model to an apple repair center they change the hd with a new one.
So I reinstall everything for the beginning. I took my snow leopard dvd formatted the new hd, installed the os, iWork 2008, iLife 2008, Mamp, CSS Edit, Espresso, Pixelmator and few other application such as Firefox, Camino, Etc...
I use the macbook with mac os 10.6, because I had to finish some work, and with my big surprise for two days the machine was super silent no fans, no hot body ..... nothing. I never reboot it and still no fans and hot body wow.
Today I wanted to install the developer kit with ios 4.2 and so I had to update the Mac os x to version 10.6.6 as soon as I made the update after the reboot the fans start again to go like crazy and after 15 minutes of work the macbook body become very hot.
The question is why?
Anyone can help me?
Thanks in advance
Gianfranco

HI R C-R.
The apps i've installed are just a few. Espresso, CSS Edit, MAMP, TextWrangler,Firefox, Camino, Chrome, Opera,BetterZip, Stuffit Expander, Pixelmator, 1Password, Dropbox, Xslimmer, VLC, CyberDuck, littlesnitch, iworks, iLife, wacom tablet driver.
Nothing more. All the software is updated.
Here the data but as you can see nothing strange but fans are on at the maximum speed!

• Kernel_task high cpu usage, high fan speed, and low cpu tempterature

Hi,
I've noticed that a lot of people have been having trouble with the kernel_task process, but I couldn't quite find a situation similar to mine (most seem temperature related).
Here is the situation (15' MBP, mid-2010):
- on boot (while the apple logo is shown), the fans speed suddenly jumps, and stays there, even if the computer has been off for a while.
- boot takes a little over a minute, which is considerably slower than what I was used to before today
- when finally started-up, the activity monitors shows kernel_task using between 160-180% of the CPU!
- temperatures are shown to be around 30C, except for the mem controller at 40C (still very low temp), but the fan speed is arround 6000rpm for both fans.
- this happened out of nowhere, as I woke the mpb from sleep this morning.
Since then I've tried:
- multiple reboots
- install all updates
- uninstall flash player (some people where having trouble with that)
- empty the system cache with Onyx (reported as a cause of slow boot)
- reset PRAM
- reset SMC
- put some ice packs under the mpb to cool things even further!
And so far, nothing has worked! I've had this laptop for 1 year, and nothing had ever failed. I upgraded to lion a few weeks ago, and everything had been working fine since the upgrade. This really happened out of nowhere, and none of the many forums I have read could offer a solution, and cals to apple support do not seem to yield better results (though I scheduled a call with them at 9am this morning, we'll see).
Has anyone had a similar set of problems?
I appreciate any help or advice you may have!
Thanks!
-Sebastien

I have the same issue (2.66 2010 MBP Hi-Res Anti Glare.)
I took it to Apple Store Covent Garden, JUST within warranty.
18 days later my machine has a new Main Logic borad, heat sensors, top case, palm rest. etc.
I turned it on.
The fans kicked in. All processors at 50%, big ole kernal task.
I took it back, geniuses rest SMC and tested it under load and it was fine.
weirdly it failed diagnostics at first but then seemed fine
I came home. Fans kicked in...
I took it back. Diagnostics failed heat sensors again
Replaced logic board and heats sensors again, but more carefully this time just in case, tested again.
I took it home. FANS FANS FANS.
Last time I was in the store I was told my machine was fine and had been thoroughly tested.
In mac store, no fans.
I erased hard drive and clean installed Lion
FANS
I replaced hard drive with OCZ SSD, clean LION.
Fans
Software update
SMC
PRAM
permissions
Onyx complete clean/maintenace
FANS/CPU
switched back to Snow Leopard SSD
PRAM SMC ONYX etc.
FANS/CPU
replaced RAM, memtest-ed. fine, FANS
gonna try again but up to nearly 2 months of all my spare time trying to shut this thing up so I can sell it.

• Dm4-1165dx not booting after bios update

I recently tried to update the bios on a DM4-1165dx from F.23 to F.27 as I recently formated the disk with windows 7 pro, I downloaded all the requiered drivers and everything was running smoothly until I ran the bios update tool, followed the instructions as said, waited for more than 5, noticed that the update window dissapeared then the fans started working at high speed. This lasted around 13 minutes. (now being almost 20 minutes) the bottom of the laptop was really hot. The mouse wasnt responding, neither did the keyboard (tried to get taskman to cancel the process). Waited 5 more minutes until I decided to pull the power cord then it just turned off.
Haven't been able to turn it on.
Already tried:
1.- removing the battery, waiting, power, windows+b, HP_TOOLS usb
2.- removing cmos battery, removing memory modules installing new ones.

• Satellite P750-10R idle temp and fan speed

I have just received a P750-10R and I am wondering if the idle temp and fan speed is normal. I do not have it on eco mode and the processor is at around 50 on core 1 and 47on core 2. According to the Health Monitor the fan runs at 71% speed which is rather loud in my opinion.
The ambient temp here is not very high, maybe 21-23 celcius.
Does anyone have a similar model that behaves the same way?
Regards,
Danel

Small update on the issue.
Switching to eco mode will shut off the fan for a short time. Switching back from eco mode puts the fan immediately at approx. 67% speed, no matter what is running at the time. Fan doesn't seem to run at any speed under 67% but can go higher.
Could it possibly be the recent bios update? I didn't run the computer for very long on the bios it shipped with, so I haven't got a comparison base between the two versions.

• Windows 7 - Possible to adjust fan speed UP with "official" tool?

I just got a new T500 with the switchable graphics option, and windows 7 Pro x64  installed.
When playing a game like TF2(i.e. maxing out the ATI discrete card), the system gets fairly hot - Not critically, but the rear-left corner of the system gets hot enough to be annoying against my leg.
As such, I'm looking for a way to increase the fan speed at higher temps - when I'm gaming, I don't really care about noise; I either have loud sounds happening or headphones.
Is there any more-or-less official solution to do what I want, or do I have to resort to an unofficial tool like This one?
Thanks,
-Robbie

so you are using the laptop on your leg? there is no official tool as such for setting the fan speed at certain level, as it is regulated by the computer thermal management circuitry as needed.
However, i highly suggest you try to use a laptop cooler, and don't use the laptop on your leg when playing games, as prolonged usage could cause first degree burn to your skin. This is why some laptops are called notebook and carries a warning against using the laptop on your lap.

• Qosmio F50-126 - Fan Speed never htting maximum

Hey
This issue been bothering me for a long time but was too lazy to post on it. When I boot up my notebook, you can hear the fan speed hitting its maximum RPM. But during gaming when the laptop is about to reach its maximum temperature to restart, the fan speed never hits its maxium RPM. It always seems to be about 50 percent when it about to hit the overheat threshold.
Can you tell me how to fix this issue so the notebook does us its fan maximum RPM during gaming or some other cpu/gpu intensive process?
I have all the lastest BIOS and drivers installed to date.

Hi
The fan speed is controlled by fan table which is stored in the BIOS.
Usually the fan speed would be set to a higher level only if an certain temperature level has been reached.
Furthermore the notebook would shut down automatically if the temperature level would be too high
If the unit runs stable, I would not be worried about the fan performance.
