BIOS upgrade breaks Promise Ultra 133 TX2 support on K8N Neo 2 Platium !?

Hello everyone, here is my problem
A few days ago i bought a MSI K8N Neo 2 platinum motherboard, it came preflashed with BIOS version 1.5
I also have a Promise  Ultra 133 TX2 PCI IDE controller : http://www.promise.com/product/product_detail_eng.asp?segment=undefined&product_id=87
Now this combination worked without problems but when i reflashed my BIOS to 1.9 my system began acting strange
Sometimes it would hang at POST, and sometimes i was able to get to my OS boatloader but when selecting an OS the system just locked up
When i remove the TX2 card everything works perfect again
I did try everything (No overclocks, safe settings of everything, Clear CMOS,...) but it all didnt help
Only solution for me was to go back to my previous BIOS version
Has anyone else have been experincing problems with this ?
Maybe the upgraded RAID software of the new bios version is messing up things ?
Even better, anyone have a solution for this ?
Tnx
Edit:
After going back to 1.5 i tested 1.8 wich works without problems.
PS:And is it me but after reading a few topics here on the board it seems that many more people are haveing issues with 1.9 ?

The solution is: do not flash, unless you have a well defined problem for which a new BIOS version was issued to solve it (and which can be found in the description of the BIOS file).
There is no gain in flashing if you have no problems with the installed BIOS.
Best regards,
Hans
Nice solution ...  I am in need of my second ethernet connector so i need a new bios version but i can't upgrade because then the pc will hang on my ultra tx-2 card. No more MSI for me, shaggy piece of wannabe first tier company.
So many bios upgrades have passed and not a singel one has solved the issue. And yes I contacted offical support several times ...

  • PROMISE ULTRA 133 TX2 (PCI to ATA) driver installation does not work

I tried to install the WIN32 (XP) driver that works with XP PRO 32 - it doesn't work with W7 64 Bit. I also tried the Vista driver - same problem. The driver folder contains the inf file, the cab file and the sys file. However, the "force-install" (right click - install) doesn't work - error message: 'The inf file you selected does not support this method of installation'
What exacly does that mean? Does this mean that W7 uses a different concept of driver installation than the current versions of windows OS - or does it mean that there are syntax errors in the inf file, or does it mean information is missing? (or a combination of those) Is there an indepth (comprehensive) spec for the inf file format used with W7?

    Hello Torsten,
First you might keep windows update regularly to obtain the latest driver for your device. Note: Drivers on the Windows Update site are directly provided by hardware manufacturers. Microsoft tests drivers in various environments before they are published; however, we cannot guarantee all drivers will work on all hardware platforms as there are too many different models, although their hardware ID are the same as the standard version. In some cases, due to hardware modifications by different manufacturers, the driver updates may cause some error.
Meanwhile, please understand that Windows 7 is a new operating system and whole driverstore has been reprogrammed; you might wait for another period of time till the retail version is released and push the vendor company to upgrade their device driver. Thanks for your time and understanding!
For more details, please look at the first Sticky thread at the top of this forum.
What can I do if my hardware does not work?
This will give you some guidelines.

  • G50-30 System is unstable after BIOS upgrade

After installing Windows 7 I decided to upgrade BIOS and picked the proposed update for Windows 7 64bit (http://support.lenovo.com/uu/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-g-series-laptops/g50-30-notebook-lenovo).
After applying the upgrade system boot failed. This issue was fixed using yapha7's advice (see this thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-B-and-G-Series-Notebooks/Lenovo-G50-30-Bios-update-crashed-installed-win-7/m-p/1693051#M32265).
Well, OS boots. But now I can draw violet lines on a viewport by pressing two mouse buttons simultaneously. WLAN breaks periodically, gets fixed by a reconnection. CPU consumption increases without any resorce-intensive task being launched. It iss understood that latter two issues might not be related to a BIOS upgrade. But they all appeared shortly after the upgrade.
Also it is not clear if I'm able to use USB 3.0?
The current BIOS version is A7CN47WW. Is it possible to rollback? Can you provide the original / any stable BIOS version (for Lenovo G50-30 Windows 7 x64) which is prior to the one available at the drivers download page? Thank you!

    hi a_demenkov,
Just to check, have you considered reinstalling Win7 after you got the issues that you described after flashing the BIOs to v47?
If you're leaning towards downgrading to the BIOS to v45, try the following:
    1. Boot into the BIOs and enable BIOS Back Flash.
        - Sample image
    2. The BIOS v45 download link is not listed but if you look at the the BIOS v47 file below, you should be able to get v45 by renaming:
    BIOS v47
    https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/a7cn47ww_64.exe
    to
    BIOS  v45
    https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/a7cn45ww_64.exe
If you're not able to flash the BIOS inside Windows then you may need to do it under DOS.

  • Ultra 133 IDE Issue

    Hey Guys
I have a problem with installing a CDRW drive on the Ultra 133 IDE port. Windows does reconize the drive with no issues, but when I try to burn any CD's 50-75% of the time, the burn fails, and my PC just freezes, I have to power OFF/ON to get it going again.
Right now that port is setup as default S-ATA in the bios.
Is that normal, or should I change something in the Bios to have my CDRW optical drive work correctly???
    Thanks
    Luc

    Hey Guys thanks for replies
But right now I have both my 80 GIG ATA100 Drives on my IDE1 as primary and secondary, then I have 2 Optical drives on my IDE2 as primary and secondary, and finally I have my CDRW optical drive on IDE3 and windows does reconize it but I have a very hard time burning.
Assaf recommends maybe a fireware upgrade and maybe that is a good idea, also NovJoe recommended to increase my DDR voltage to 2.7 - 2.8 i will try that aswell!

  • K8N Neo MS-7030 Rev 1 - Promise Ultra133 TX2 Help

I recently installed the MS-7030 board, for some reason if I use my Promise Ultra133 TX2 controllers the board will not POST if the controllers have a HD connected to them. Before upgrading these cards and HD's worked fine so I know these are good. Any ideas as to why this configuration does not work?
Are there any other recommended IDE controllers for the MS-7030 board?
Thanks for the help in advance!

    Here are the system specs
    MSI K8N Neo Platinum MS-7030
    Athlon64 3400+
    Samsung CL2.5 DDR PC3200 (x3)
    Nvidia MX400 AGP Video
    IBM IDE 30GB HD (x2) RAID0
    Sony CD-ROM
Dynex 350 Watt Power Supply (Best Buy Brand)
    Promise Ultra133 TX2 IDE Controller (x2)
    Samsung 120GB HD (x3) software RAID5
    1.44 Floppy
At first glance it appreaed as if my power supply might have been underpowered just as you are thinking. So the first thing I did was to swap the 350watt power supply out for a beefier 500watt version. The 500 watt version is a CompUSA brand. I realize it's not an Enermax or Antec but the 500watt power supply has been used before to power a server that had the exact setup above except it had dual athlon mp's plus external HD bays for the RAID5 set. Currently the 500watt power supply powers my gaming rig which consists of:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    Athlon64 3000+
    Radeon 9800 XT
    Samsung CL2.5 1GB PC3200 (x2)
    WD Raptor 36GB (x2) RAID0
    Lite-ON DVD ROM
    Pioneer 16X DVD+-RW
    1.44 Floppy
Judging by the fact that the 500 watt power supply can power the above rig I surmise the issue is not a power supply issue. Also I flashed the bios to the latest and greatest version supplied by MSI which I believe was v1.9. As for the boot order I did check it and it is set to boot correctly from the primary HD. Thanks for the help.

  • Help Please - X200 will not boot after Bios Upgrade - keeps asking for power on password

    Hi there,
I am new to this forum and please let me say a big Thank You for your help in advance.
I am using a lenovo thinkpad x200 running windows vista with service pack 1.
The laptop has always been running fine and has never given me any issues. Unfortunately, all this came to an end yesterday when I ran the system assistant which did a round of updates and it prompted me to reflash my bios.
I did what was instructed and closed all open applications and after the laptop restarted, there was a noise from the harddisk (the sound was basically like what happens if the harddisk suddenly loses power). Then, all i got was a black screen, no harddisk acitvity with only the power cable LED and another LED (with the shape of a N tiled at 20 degrees) on.
I searched the forum and did what was suggested in this entry: http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Blank-screen-after-Bios-Upgrade-on-X200/ta-p/29...
This is what I did so far"
I turned off the power, took out the backup battery and waited for about 30 minutes (repeated this step several times, also removing the harddisk) but to no avail.
I removed the RAM and tried booting and there was that characteristic beeping sound.
I replaced the RAM, redid the CMOS clearing, and now there is the Lenovo startup screen. However, there would be an error code 0271 (no date time) and 0251 (something about default configuration). Then, these disappear and all I am left with is the Bios Power On password prompt. Somehow no matter what I type nothing can be input into the field (and I did not create any password as far as I can remember).
I redid the clearing for the power on password by removing the backup battery as suggested at the bottom of this page http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=migr-59377   but it is no use. Each time I restart, even if I press the blue Think Vantage button or F1 or F11, I still get the same 0271 and 0251 error messages and am left with the power on password prompt.
I am really desperate as I really like my lenovo x200 and there is important data on the laptop. I would appreciate any suggestions on how I can solve this. Its amazing how a simple update can turn into such a disaster. Now i know i should never upgrade or update my Bios (or at least proceed with extreme caution).
Anyone can provide some help to get my laptop workin again?
    Thank you very much,
    Mark

  • ProBook 4420s won't read DVDs, probable cause: BIOS upgrade (09-09-2011 F20). Audio CDs OK.

    Hi, everybody.
ProBook 4420s is not recognizing DVD media.  Drive is HP CDDVDW TS-L633N.
Recently ran HP Support Assistant to install most recent updates, and suspect the BIOS upgrade may be the cause.  Now at version 68AHH F.20 09/09/2011.
It's not an operating system issue, for it no longer boots from bootable DVDs either.
    Audio CDs are propperly recognized.
    Running Windows 7 x64 w/SP1 + latest updates.
If not BIOS, I would suspect a hardware failure affecting the "DVD-related" components of the drive.
    Please advice.
    Thanks,
    Mario

    hi Samberl
thanks a lot for the fast reply.
I was dragging folders from main folders on the laptop-desktop  onto the external drive icon - to copy them across....
Your suggestion sounds very promising -  I didn't know about 'cloning'.
Yes the idea is to backup the laptop -    I thought I would just move it all now, new - and then keep saving/dragging physically   across to the new drive myself each day or two...
Would this be the sizeof the internal hard drive = c.500 gb  ?   =   under the HD icon on desktop is written  :
    " 499.76gb , 311.5 gb free  "
I can erase and start agin on the new external drive - so this plan is to make two partititions, rather than the one at present, and make one of them 500 gb ?
I have found CCC [carbon copy cloner] googling - looks good.
When CCC site says it backs up  the hard drive - would this  mean all my files  [over 100 gb] that are mostly  in folders on the desktop, plus the others in itunes, iphotos etc found in the HD icon,  would all copy across successfully [wherever they are in the computer ]  ?
thanks again, hope you can clarify these things and then I will go for it.
It would be great and amazing if this 'lack of permission' message doesn't show up in the process of doing this ccc transfer - hopeful!

  • S7700n bios upgrade failure

    have: hp pavilion s7700n, W vista 32bit, current bios:5.01
    objective: upgrade bios
issue: bios upgrades 5.03 & 5.04 will not install. error reads...
'your system does not meet the minimum requirements for this update. update has been cancelled (9996)'
    solution:?????????????
if a train comes to a stop at a train station then what becomes of work at a workstation?

question: is it possible one needs to install 5.02 first before installing 5.03? if so, could you please provide a link?
NO, one doesn't need to install all previous BIOS updates before installing the most current update. BIOS updates are cumulative and contain all previously released modifications.
"The only BIOS update listed for this model is...sp35113"... really? try this one on... sp35113 (5.03) and sp35154 (5.04)
    Please see the list of BIOSes (with motherboard model, date, SP#, version #, and OS requirement) below;
    A8N-BR
    2007-09-14
    sp35112.exe
    Version:3.05
    Microsoft Windows XP
    A8N-BR
    2007-09-14
    sp35113.exe
    Version:5.03
    Microsoft Windows Vista
    A8MN-BR
    2007-09-12
    sp35155.exe
    Version:3.04
    Microsoft Windows XP
    A8MN-BR
    2007-09-28
    sp35154.exe
    Version:5.04
    Microsoft Windows Vista
Note that the A8N-BR has two distinct version series (3.xx and 5.xx) and that the OS requirement varies with the version. Note that extra BIOS update you listed, sp35154.exe, is for a different motherboard ... the A8MN-BR. Also, note that the A8MN-BR has two distinct version series (3.xx and 5.xx) and that the OS requirement varies with the version.
but what oh wise one might the other issues be? i've been at this for three days and i'm now at my wit's end
Without getting into too much detail, HP has the confusing habit of using the same or similar motherboard model numbers for different motherboards. To make matters worse, HP sometimes chooses to name the motherboard models with names that are the same but incremental or similar. Case in point... the M2N78-LA (4 diferent boards... Viola, Voilet, Violet3, Violet6)... the M2N68-LA (Narra, Narra2, Narra3, etc,)... the PTGD-LA/PTGD1-LA/PTGD2-LA series (Goldfish series, Grouper, Puffer, Piranha, etc.). Many times this cause BIOS update issues where there is a BIOS update listed on the support for a particular model but when you run the update, it is rejected.
This happened to me with a Violet based computer and a Violet6 based computer. HP listed the same BIOS update for both but it really only applied to the Violet based system. Trying to update the Violet6 board resulted in an error like yours. A call to HP and months later, they pulled the update.
I suspect some combination of errors is the reason you can't install the update. Honestly, the only one I would consider installing is sp35113.exe. And if it doesn't install, I would stop while ahead. The only reason to install a BIOS update, is to correct an issue that affects your system or to add support for something specific that you need. If the update doesn't address those items, there is no reason to attempt a potentially dangerous BIOS update and risk turning your computer into a BRICK.

  • Verizon Breaks Promises

Hello. This is a true story that happened to me and my wife. I want to share because it caused us so much pain, that maybe people can learn from our experience in the future.
On Sunday, 06/16/13, I lost internet at home. I have Verzion DSL High-Speed internet with the extra $15/month for enhanced. This is just one tragic story in a long history of tragedies, but I will keep this as concise and short as possible.
I lost internet services on Sunday. Called Verzion on Monday and spent 1 hour with a technician having me reset my modem every which way. I'm not a high-end user, but I know enough to know that whatever he was doing was not helpful. After 1 hour, I got hung up on. Verizon tech had taken down my number in case that happened, but he never called back. Broken promise. Turns out, he knew nothing. There was an outage in my area and he never even bothered to check.
I called again and spent 20 minutes on hold before getting hung up on as soon as the tech answered.
Internet came back on Monday night, (it was an outage) but now the router is not playing nicely with the modem. Seems like all the resetting etc. messed it up. Doesn't work. Tech support made things worse. Broken promise.
My wife calls several times during the week. Hours on the phone. Time away from work. Time being upset and on hold.
One person says this, another says that. We find that Verizon is not responsible for breaking our wireless configuration settings, and they tell us to contact the router company and pay them tech support. We do some research (on our phones because we have no wireless to share) and go over our data plan with Verizon Wireless (no relation). More money out of pocket, and not Verizon's problem they tell us. Verizon Wireless is not Verizon's problem.
I get a call on Thursday. A Verizon specialist wants to talk. I step outside from work, and tell him (firmly) to please have a manager call me outside of business hours (9am-5pm PST). I was tired of wasting so much time. He agreed, and the next day, Friday, a manager called my wife at 4:40pm. Not me, not after 5pm. Broken promises.
Saturday, I fixed the wireless router issue because I'm a genius, and a Solutions Representative/Manager calls to follow-up on everything. I tell her the truth about everything. She is very sorry. She will make sure to follow-up on this. I feel a bit better. But when it comes to the reimbursement/bill-credit, she can't speak to that. It's a separate department. Billing. They're only open 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday. Days without internet, more days without wireless internet. Money to 3rd party tech support. Money to Verizon Wireless for data overage.
So, the moral of the story is, if you have an issue, don't expect any answers to be given or promises to be held by Verizon.  You know how United breaks guitars? Well Verizon breaks promises.
The other moral is that calling Verzino tech support is a bad idea, and if other options exist, consider going with a different company.

If anyone is reading this out there, I want you to know that 2 weeks after the initial incident, this issue is still not resolved.
I have been reached out to in Private Forums regarding this matter. No emails or phone calls in the last week (with one exception... read on).
The latest news is that I would be transferred to the "retentions department" for potential compensation. I was glad, as maybe there would be justice after all. I made it very, very clear that I could not speak during working hours, which are 9am-5pm (PST). I was told, by Art, that I would be called after 5pm (PST) on Monday (today). I was told this. In print. Not a verbal lie this time.
As you can guess, not after 5pm, but at 4:23pm, I was sent a message from Paul on the Private Forum, telling me that the office would close soon, and could they call me now? Imagine my surprise! Not a phone call. Not an email. But a Private Fourm message that did not send me an alert! How funny! Note: I didn't get this message until after I got home, after dinner.
This was later followed-up by a call from "Unknown" at 4:32pm. Terriffic! A total blatant lie. They fooled me again. I changed my day around to be available after 5pm, and they swooped in and private-message-forumed me to let me know they would call sooner, and left me looking riduclous outside work on my phone at 5:02pm.
Verizon Breaks Promises. This has been a horrible, horrible experience... and it's not over yet.

  • 661FM-L BIOS Upgrade Bad?

I have two MSI 661FM-L motherboards installed into two new systems.  Both have new Intel P4 3.2Ghz processors with 800Mhz FSB and both have 1GB of memory.  Both booted up fine and we installed Windows XP Professional on them.  We then noticed that the PC's are booting up and only showing 2.8Ghz, so we assumed it needed a BIOS upgrade.  So we downloaded the latest BIOS at http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=501&kind=1 (version 3.6) and now both systems will not boot.  It gets POST, but after detecting the hard disk, DVD burner, etc, it gives the error message "Not support this type CPU: 0F33" and the only option then is to go into the BIOS.  We reset the BIOS values to optimized and safe, both still not fixing this problem.

This support page shows that board does not support a 3.2G Prescott cpu
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=501&kind=1
What's odd is it shows it supports every other CPU. Can you confirm if you have a Prescott CPU?

  • Flex 10 bios upgrade

How to upgrade bios for Flex 10 ?  How to run the "93cn52ww.exe". My Flex 10 is now running Win 8.1 32-bits.... Bios upgrade seems to be for 64 bits.  I don't see any bios upgrade for 32 bits systems
The README of  bios upgrade version (9.2 ?) says it fixes the hang up after S3...
do you mean it also correct the problem described in the thread: "Flex10: Can't wake up from sleep after upgraded to windows 8.1" ?
So how can I fix this "wake up from sleep" issue !
How to enter bios setting and read installed version ?

    I have the same issue.
And no answer from Lenovo Support. Only bad links and no 32bit drivers for windows 8.1.

Hope one day we will have an answer...
Bon courage Laurent, il en faut de la patience...

  • A70z BIOS Upgrade via Flash from O/S

    Hello Everyone,
Situation: A friends A70z 0401 slow as heck; 1GB Memory (as shipped); Current BIOS Version: 98KT17A
He wants to upgrade to max. 4GB but per Lenovo's website this requires a BIOS upgrade to a minimum of 98KT25A to recognize a 2GB module.
Memory arrived and I went to apply the latest version posted, 98KT27A, and I received the following:"Error: File ROM ID incorrect" when attempting to flash via O/S.
Readme file excerpt from the package build:
    *     2.  In the application graphical user interface, press button "Open"  *
    *         and select the BIOS ROM image "imagexx.rom", where "xx"           *
    *         represents the two digit flash level. Then press button "Flash" to   *
    *         start the update process. When the update process is complete,    *
    *         press button "Exit" to exit the application.                      *
Using the GUI-based "AFUWIN" utility and selecting the image file that came with the update I would have expected to find a file named of IMAGE27.ROM based upon the above instructions, but found IMAGE98.ROM.  Could my problem be as simple as renaming the delivered file name to IMAGE27.ROM and re-executing the AFUWIN utility?
If so, naughty BIOS package build.
    Thanks in Advance,

Since my friends PC was out of warranty, the support team was some help and suggested running Lenovo's System Update Utility and apply the BIOS upgrade that way.  I did, it failed.  After it fails you can run the update manually, I did, it failed.  It failed because in both cases it was using the Windows-based utility.
I gave up at that point and just burned the ISO image (98KT27A) to a CD and the new version 98JT27A installed successfully.
Hope this info helps someone who runs into the same issue that I had.
