BIOS upgrade on Satellite 1900-803

I have just tried to upgrade my bios on recommendation from Microsoft due to reported serious processor/bios conflicts.
The downloaded flash bios routine appeared to be working well from the floppy disk for about two minutes then suddenly the whole laptop shutdown without warning. The machine was rebooted but only with a blank screen and no further booting either from floppy or hard drives.
The front panel LED display shows the infrared icon in solid red without any flashing (this has no references in the instruction booklet).
I have tried several key sequences on re-boot from information obtained via google searches on the internet. None of these appear to make any differences. The recovery CD supplied with the machine does not work either on re-boot when used with the recommended C key plus on/off switch.
I was considering trying to reset the password using one of these parallel port fixers described on the net?
Any other ideas on a way forward?
I guess Toshiba offers no guarantees with their bios routines even though I have lost a considerable amount of important data?
Regards,
James

Hi
You are right. The warranty should no cover this misfortune.
It seems the notebook does not boot because you have updated the BIOS with the wrong version or with the wrong update procedure.
Mostly its not easy to estimate what could be wrong.
Maybe you are a lucky man and the BIOS chip must be only flashed again using a special procedure.
In the worst case the board is dead and you will need new one
Seems you will have to contact the service technicians in your country.
Ask the guys for further handling and details good luck

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite 1900-803

How do you get keyboard off this model to upgrade memory?

    Hi
The memory slots you will find at the bottom of the unit!
Under the keyboard you will find a place for the WLan card!
But your question was How to remove keyboard.
Well, before placing here an description how to do it I must say that everything what you do is on you own risk!
    Be careful buddy!!!
So if you wan to remove the keyboard you should
    1. Depress the right-hand key on the back row of your keyboard and insert a thin tool
into the narrow hole that is revealed in the keyboard brace latch below the keyboard brace.
    2. Use the tool to slide the keyboard brace latch to the right. The keyboard brace will pop up allowing you to lift it out.
    3. Remove two silver screws securing the keyboard and lift the keyboard out and turn it face down on the palm rest.
Be careful not to apply pressure to the keyboard cable
    4. Disconnect the keyboard cable from the system board and remove the keyboard.
    Thats all.

  • Satellite 1900-803: Hi-Speed USB 2.0 card doesn't work

i have a satellite 1900-803 laptop. I recently bought and installed a Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Notebook Card but it doesn't work. the card's manual says that after successful installation i should see a second "universal serial bus controllers" heading which i didn't. i even had it replaced it with another one thinking that there might be some problems with the drivers, but it still doesn't work. everytime i plug in a device such as an mp3 player, a digital camera or a usb storage device, windows just suddenly locks itself up, the cursor won't move, the ctrl-alt-del function doesn't work, and the worst of all, i can't turn off the machine!
the card says that it runs on any 32-bit slot.
i've browsed the user's manual and the device manager to see if mine is a 32-bit one, but i can't really find it. is this probably the reason why it won't work? or is there any other reason for it not working? if this is the reason, is there a way where i can upgrade my laptop's pc card slot to make it work?
    please help.
i've posted this question yesterday morning and haven't got a single reply. is it because it has got to do with an older laptop? please, anybody, help..........

    Hi
Did you check the Bios? I assume the Toshiba Bios was preinstalled on your notebook. Am I right? There should be an option for changing the PC card controller mode.
There you can change the controller mode to auto-selected, PCIC compatible or Card bus/16-bit.
If the card supports 32 bit so you shouldnt use the 16bit option.
I think you should play a little bit with this option and possibly the card will work.

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite 1900-303

Looking for help guys, According to the manual there should be two slots for memory modules in the memory bay but there is only one that fits. There is 256 Mb built in and I have already added 256 Mb. Where is the original 256 Mb module ? I wish to replace both with 512 Mb modules. Orcalogic only give the single part number as per the manual.
    Any help would be great.

    Hi there,
Unfortunately the second RAM is under the Keyboard, but I really dont know how to reach it. I think it would be necessary to disassmble the machine to get access to the second module.
    Thats all what I know.
    Cheers

  • With full charged battery my Satellite 1900 runs 2 minutes only

I've got a Satellite 1900-803 laptop, the problem is that, I charge the battery up to 100% I then turn the mains off but the battery lasts about 2 min then battery warning sound comes on, I click the battery icon on bottom right and it still says 95%, so the first few times I left it and the computer turned itself off.
Do you know what the problem may be If there is one. I'm running it on long live as well.
    Please could you explain?
If you can't answer, have Toshiba got it own customer support contact email address???

    Hi
I presume the battery is dead! How old is it?
The notebook seems to be a little bit old and if the battery was never replaced, then Im 100% sure that this could be a reason why notebook cannot run on battery for a longer period.
The solution is the battery replacement ;)
Either you will google a little bit to find some online dealers who sell the compatible batteries for this notebook or you will contact the ASP in you country and will order the right battery pack.
To find the right ASP check this:

  • Satellite 1900-303: Can I upgrade the Hard Drive up to 120GB

I've a S1900-303 and I'm thinking of upping the Hard Drive to 120gb. What problems, if any, will I encounter and can I do it froom the Toshiba boot disk or should I just install XP from a XP disk?

    Hi
As far as I can remember the Satellite 1900-303 was delivered with the 30GB HDD.
So in my opinion the 120GB HDD size is a little bit too big and I presume the notebook BIOS will not recognize this HDD!!!
    I think you can use a 40GB, 60GB and maybe a 80GB HDD.
PS: you should search for the HDD with the enhanced IDE (ATA-5) interface!!!
Good luck and have a nice day

  • Satellite T135 - BIOS upgrade to 2.70 won't finish

I have a Satellite T135 running Win7 with an original BIOS that I am trying to upgrade to 2.70. I have run all the other software updates in Service Station (2.1.51) without any issues. but the 2.7 BIOS downloads, initiates and warns that i'll need to restart (I select Yes to run it) and receive the popup notice about the electrical problem (faulty DC) that this BIOS fixes, then nothing. It just stops.
I've disabled my antivirus windows firewall but the update still fails to complete. I've downloaded the file straight from Toshiba (outside of Service Station) and run the file and the exact same thing happens.
Event Viewer doesn't show any related entries.
Anyone have an idea on how to get the BIOS upgraded?

    Hi mwarwick,
Have you installed newest version of Value Added Package from Toshiba website? This program is necessary if you want to update the BIOS so check if you have the newest version installed.
Furthermore I would recommend loading the default settings in BIOS before you do the update. So go into BIOS, press F9 for loading default values, save & exit setup.
Can you update the BIOS now?

  • BIOS upgrade does not work on Satellite C670-16E

    Hello,
I tried to install a bios upgrade on a C670-16E but I receive the following message

    How to solve this problem?
    Thanx in advance

    Hi
What Windows system is preinstalled on your notebook?
Are you still using the preinstalled Toshiba image and all the Toshiba drivers?
How did you try to update the BIOS?
I downloaded the zipped package (bios-20120903153222.zip) and unzipped it.
Within the bios-20120903153222.zip folder I could find additional BIOS_V230_WIN.exe file.
This is also a zipped package even if it contains the exe extension.
Click right on this exe and choose unzip here.
Now you should get additional folder UBIOS containing different files.
Here you could execute the file WinFlash.exe to start the BIOS update

  • Satellite L300 refuses to boot after BIOS upgrade

    Hi,
My girlfriend's L300 was lagging terribly so we decided to format C:. We did this with the accompanying XP restore disk.
Then we had to upgrade the drivers. We started the installation of the BIOS upgrade from the Toshiba driver website, went away for a while and when we came back the computer had restarted of itself.
It was stuck in a cycle of the "windows loading" screen and the one with a bottom bar that says press F2 for this or F12 for that. Tried all options in the boot menu, not even safe mode works.
We tried to reformat with the previous method, by inserting XP CD and holding down the 'C' button while starting. We get the familiar 'Windows Setup' screen, and it seems to load all the windows setup files from the CD. But when we get to the installation, we get a blue screen error message. 'A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.....Technical information: ***STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78D254,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)
Nothing seems to work, please help! We really want to save the images, on the D: disk partition.

    Hi
Try to set the BIOS to default settings.
You have to access the BIOS and there you could set it to default.
Please check if you can install the OS using the SATA mode -> AHCI and compatible.
If you use AHCI then you have to include the SATA drivers. If you use the compatible mode, then SATA drivers are not needed.
If you want to get access to the HDD before installing the OS in the C partition, then I would recommend booting the notebook using a Windows Live CD like WinPE or BartPe.
Both are live cds which dont need a installation you have to boot from such disk only to get access to the content on the HDD.

  • Satellite Pro L300 doesn't reboot after BIOS upgrade from TOSHIBA Site

After a BIOS upgrade made under windows,my system doesn't reboot any more.F2,F8 keys are ineffective at power up time. The screen remains black and there is only some permanent accesses to the CD/DVD reader.
Can somebody explained me what has happended and how to repair if possible? Must i reflash the BIOS or something else.
    Thanks a lot

In my opinion something went wrong during the update and the ROM module has not been flashed properly.
According to people here in the forum, only an Toshiba service agent can help you.
But I found an interesting thread here in the forum which might be helpful to you.

  • Re: RAM upgrade on Satellite 1800-700

I would like to upgrade my Satellite 1800-700 memory to 1024 RAM. My operating system is Windows XP. I currently have 512 RAM and the BIOS 2.20 TRAD.
However, it would allow me to install 2x512 RAM.
    Please can anyone help?
    Thank you kindly.
    Lee

I have found your laptop specifications:
    Satellite 1800-700 Memory Specifications
    Standard Memory 128 MB (removable)
    Maximum Memory 512 MB
    Memory Expansion 2 sockets
    Memory Comments PC133 SDRAM SODIMMs
CPU Type 850MHz Intel Mobile Pentium III
    Model Comments 100MHz FSB
So, as you see, the maximum supported memory is 512 mb

  • Satellite 1900-303: Is memory slot 2 configurable?

I have a satellite 1900-303 and I ask someone to tell me please if the expansion memory slot 2 is configurable. If it is, what for? To share video memory?
I have seen on one site that is configurable, but on users manual is not mentioned that and I need to be sure before to buy another memory module.
[Edited by: admin on 08-Jan-06 19:16]

    Hi
This unit has a ATI MOBILITY RADEON with 32 MB video ram and like Barrie said its not a shared memory graphic card. In this case the memory upgrade doesnt increase this graphic video memory size. But of course the bigger memory size increases the notebook performance.

  • BIOS Update for Satellite A300/600

    Hi all,
I have a Satellite A300/600 (PSAG4A-02600M), which I have just installed W7 x64 on (I did a clean install). I am upgrading the drivers as per the Toshiba website. I noticed there is a BIOS upgrade to version 1.8 - I am currently running version 1.5.
I have downloaded the update but when I try to run it I get the following message: "C:\Users\HELIF~1\AppData\Local\Temp\isc6632tmp\\i nsydeflash.exe could not be executed."
The PC is running fine at the moment, no major glitches - do I need V1.8? If so, how do I remedy this situation?
Other glitches so far in the upgrade process for me have been:
Every time I pressed the mute button W7 UAC popped up to ask me if I wanted to allow the Toshiba program to adjust a system setting. Fixed this issue by moving the ButtonSetting.ini file and making a registry change.
Loaded Windows Live Photo Gallery. When I inserted my XD card from my camera, W7 recognised it just fine, but WLPG could not see it. Therefore I am unable to import my photos off the card. Well, I can do it through W7 but WLPG gives you the options of fine tuning the import process which is what I'm after. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling WLPG after I'd installed all the drivers from Toshiba but it still won't recognise it. Still an issue.
Lastly, in relation to WLPG, I can't seem to download Image Composite Editor, whenever I try the link to the download (ftp or html), Firefox just displays a blank page with "waiting for research.microsoft.com". Trying to find an alternative site to download it off but no luck thus far.
That's it so far, any help would be appreciated.
Message was edited by: helifella - added one more issue...

Thanks for the advice. Won't be touching the BIOS any more.
Think I found a solution to the WLPG problem = Picasa! No, but seriously, I will try the Windows or Windows Live forums when I get the opportunity. I must say I did like the face recognition in Picasa, makes tagging people pretty easy. If only tags were more standardised like audio tags (okay, I know there are a few formats but they're pretty good) so when I imported the photos I had already tagged in WLPG they were recognised by Picasa - grr.
    Anyway, thanks again, case closed.
