BIOS Upgrade utility Winphlash flashes WITHOUT notice and command

Hello,
After installing Vista I was about to upgrade my BIOS. So I downloaded the BIOS from the official site (http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_bios.jsp) filled in my notebook details (Satellite A110-225, PSAB0E) and downloaded the bios version for VISTA.
I unzipped the zip and double clicked on the setup.exe. The latter file was supposed to create a folder in windows temp and possible startup Winphlash. But is should stop there. Instead it went on and also
FLASHED MY BIOS WITHOUT ME HITTING THE FLASH BUTTON !!!!!
And this is not all......
Because I didn't had a change to change the source file the program did this using the BIOS.ROM file included in the setup of the program. Not using the "TW20540a.rom" file which was the new rom to be used.
Now my system is dead. My BIOS is corrupted.
Please help me fix the BIOS and Toshiba people please remove the upgrade utility from the site !!

I was able to repair my BIOS using the BIOS Recovery Mode and a Repair Disk (http://web.telia.com/~u43311424/crisis-recovery-disk/)
I tried several BIOS versions
- 2.0 for non-VISTA currenlty on the official Toshiba site
- 5.4 for VISTA also on the Toshiba site
- 1.3
All three are asking for a BIOS password which i never set. In version 5.4 my keyboard does not work.

  • New NF980-G65 with an AMD X6 1090T and the BIOS Update Utility Crashes?

Last week I received my new NF980-G65 board and with it an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T (Thuban 3.2GHz Socket AM3).  After installing the board and starting it up for the first time I noticed that it reports BIOS version 1.1 and CPU unknown.  Next I downloaded the BIOS update to version 1.3 from msi, made a boot USB stick and powered up again.  System will not boot from USB.  I tried now over 20 different sticks from 256MB to 64GB and none of them worked!
Went back to my old system and ripped its floppy drive out to install it in the new computer.  Had to go to RadioShack since I have not touched a floppy in over 10 years, but they had some on clearance.  Made me a boot disk, put the new BIOS and install utility on it, booted the system with the floppy, started the BIOS update utility and watched it crash.  When I start it by itself it gives me three screens of options and commands, but as soon as I try to use one of the commands or update the BIOS it keeps crashing.
What do I have to do to get the BIOS on the NF980-G65 updated so it will run with my AMD X6 1090T processor?
Thank you in advance for ANY help...

What thing are you talking about?  You are experiencing the a certain symptom for which you do not know the cause.  For some strange reason and without any in-depth tests you seem to assume that the board must be the problem (ignoring all other components (for example your factory overclocked memory modules).

What support have you tried to get that actually has to do anything with money?  Please note that this is not MSI Technical Support but a User-to-User forum, run by users (just like you) that do not get paid for donating their private time to try to help others.  Whatever your level of frustration is in regards to the money spent for your components, please do not use it to insult anyone here in this forum.

  • "Support and upgrade utility" of Multicap/Ultiboard 9 not compatible with windows installer

Yesterday I installed Multicap 9 and Ultiboard 9 on the new computer of my collegue. We haven't got a maintenance contract. It's possible to update Multicap 9 and Ultiboard 9 once after installing it on a new computer withou a maintenance contract. First the "Support and Upgrade Utility" wants to download and install a new version (1.0.36) of itself. When this update wants to start, I got a message of the Windows Installer that the msi is incompatible with the Windows Installer. The upgrade is cancelled after this message.
I tried to solve the problem to update Windows XP Pro SP2 to SP3, but that doesn't make sense.
How can I solve this problem?
Is it possible to download the update of Multicap 9 and Ultiboad 9 without the "Support and Upgrade Utility"?
    With kind regards,
    Marco.

    Hello Marco,
thank you for your post on our webforum. I noticed some problems with the Support and Upgrade utility in the past (only on some computers). I think it is best to provide you with a new installer; it is possible to place this on a FTP server, can you contact me for this?

  • A70z BIOS Upgrade via Flash from O/S

    Hello Everyone,
Situation: A friends A70z 0401 slow as heck; 1GB Memory (as shipped); Current BIOS Version: 98KT17A
He wants to upgrade to max. 4GB but per Lenovo's website this requires a BIOS upgrade to a minimum of 98KT25A to recognize a 2GB module.
Memory arrived and I went to apply the latest version posted, 98KT27A, and I received the following:"Error: File ROM ID incorrect" when attempting to flash via O/S.
Readme file excerpt from the package build:
    *     2.  In the application graphical user interface, press button "Open"  *
    *         and select the BIOS ROM image "imagexx.rom", where "xx"           *
    *         represents the two digit flash level. Then press button "Flash" to   *
    *         start the update process. When the update process is complete,    *
    *         press button "Exit" to exit the application.                      *
Using the GUI-based "AFUWIN" utility and selecting the image file that came with the update I would have expected to find a file named of IMAGE27.ROM based upon the above instructions, but found IMAGE98.ROM.  Could my problem be as simple as renaming the delivered file name to IMAGE27.ROM and re-executing the AFUWIN utility?
If so, naughty BIOS package build.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Sue

    So here's the answer:
Since my friends PC was out of warranty, the support team was some help and suggested running Lenovo's System Update Utility and apply the BIOS upgrade that way.  I did, it failed.  After it fails you can run the update manually, I did, it failed.  It failed because in both cases it was using the Windows-based utility.
I gave up at that point and just burned the ISO image (98KT27A) to a CD and the new version 98JT27A installed successfully.
Hope this info helps someone who runs into the same issue that I had.

  • Firefox has suddenly gone wrong. I was successfully running both Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7. I auto-accept upgrades including the most recent Firefox upgrade and the suggested upgrade to Adobe Flash 10.1. But after this, Firefox stopped

Firefox has suddenly gone wrong. I was successfully running both Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7. My laptop is new and has plenty of RAM and HDD. I auto-accept upgrades including the most recent Firefox upgrade and the suggested upgrade to Adobe Flash 10.1. But after this, Firefox stopped working and does not work when I re-load Firefox 3.6. Also IE8 now works very slowly and does not locate major websites like Microsoft without a 'can't find the website message' and having to pressing Return a second time. When I do get to the Mozilla website and click on the button to try to download Firefox 3.6.6, I get this message "Oops! Internet Explorer could not find mozilla3.snt.utwente.nl". Can you help with what has gone wrong? As it stands, I can't use Firefox at all. Note: because Firefox did not work after the upgrade, I've downloaded the IE8 version of the Adobe Flash 10.1. What I really want is to be able to use both Firefox and IE8. But is this possible if they use different versions of Adobe Flash?

I have been having the same problem as the original poster. After upgrading to Ffx 3.6.6, the program asks you to upgrade to Flash Player Plugin 10.1. I download and installed 10.1 only to find videos weren't loading.
In my case, the problem is the previous installation of Flash Player (9.0.47) was somehow messing things up. To fix this, because I already had Flash plugin 10.1 installed I had to uninstall 10.1 using the uninstaller from adobe and then manually remove any files related the old flash player plugin 9.0.47
Here is a run-down of my process:
    0. To check if you have a previous installation of the Flash Plugin lurking around, in Firefox go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins (tab). At this point you may seen both Flash plugins.
    1. Proceed to uninstall Flash Plugin 10.1. Adobe provides an uninstaller here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
( you have to make sure you have nothing running when you execute the installer).
    2. On my Mac (sorry I don't know what it is in Windows) I searched the hard drive for any files/folders with "Shockwave". I found a folder called "Shockwave 10". It wasn't removed by Adobe's uninstaller. For safety I deleted it and then emptied the trash.
    3. I then went to My HD -> Library -> Internet Plugins.
Remove the file and folder named "Flash player.old"
    4. Restarted; ran the Adobe Flash Player 10.1 installer. Restarted again.
    5. Opened up ffx and double checked the plugins list (see step 1). Version 10.1 is installed and available. Went to problem sites to test it out and Success!
    Hope this helps.

  • T500 BIOS upgrade v3.00-1.03 bootable CDROM won't flash

Model is a 2081 CTO running Windows Vista x64 SP1. Downloaded and burned to a CDROM the image 6fuj30uc.iso. As per the instructions, I tried installing the hotfix as required by MS KB 937500 but it does not install saying the update does not apply to this system. Even though the system is a T500 instead of a W500, I also upgraded the switchable graphics driver as also mentioned in the readme file.
BIOS boot options have the CD/DVD as the first bootup device. All password protection to the BIOS has been removed.
Booting up with the CDROM results in a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner. BIOS does not get flashed. Nor does a menu appear providing me with options to read help or flash the BIOS.
    BIOS remains at 6FET56WW (2.02).

The hotfix associated with Roxio resolved the problem. Many thanks!

  • Have 2004 eMac...screen goes black without notice. Getting a reconditioned 2005 eMac. Can I have the HD swapped from old eMac to reconditioned one without problems??? Black screen is called "collapse to black" and occurs 4-5 daily

Have 2004 eMac...screen goes black without notice.  Black screen is called "collapse to black" and occurs 4-5 daily. From what I understand, this is due to bad capicators????? Found a reconditioned 2005 eMac on line. Can I have the HD swapped from old eMac to reconditioned eMac without problems???...with regards to software applications. Old eMac is running 10.4.11 and reconditioned on runs 10.5. Suggestions, tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Might want to make sure both units are not affected. This is the range of serial number from the now-defunct Apple Repair Extention Program for USB 2.0 eMacs:
    G8412xxxxxx- G8520xxxxxx
    YM412xxxxxx - YM520xxxxxx
    VM440xxxxxx - VM516xxxxxx
A "collapse" is more indicative of a video cabling issue, but the bad caps produced such a wide range of problems that it's hard to sort through them.
If the old eMac is a USB 2.0, which a 2004 unit should be, the HD should exchange with the new one. As the last of the eMacs shipped with Tiger, the new computer should have no probelms with a 10.4 boot volume on the old drive. You can upgrade to Leopard one you have hte new disk in place.
NOTE: Takeapart and reassembly on the USB 2.0 must be done "just so" or you can permanently damage the power switch. Instructions for the USB 1.1 takeapart are slightly different , and the power swtich damage is usually caused by people using the older instructions on a newer eMac.
If you are not up to the takepart nor can you find a local computer tech who knows these. consider taking the drive out of the dead computer(won't make much difference if you damage that one as it's dead), buy an external Firewire enclosure, and put the old drive on it and use it to move data to the new computer. Then you can leave the external attached as a backup drive.
Is the new one a 1.42Ghz model? They have been practically trouble-free around here. We have one and it's been rock solid since we bought it as a refurb in Jan 2006. The 1.42G has the advantage of a Core Image-enabled video chipset, the ATI 9600.
And all USB 2.0 eMacs can, with modern memory modules, support up to 2G of RAM.

  • How can I Install BIOS Upgrade without windows installed

    Hi Guys,
I want to Install BIOS Upgrade for Lenovo 3000 N100. The problem is i have a brand new hard drive, so i want to install it on command line after booting the system from bootable CD.
I have found all the BIOS updates on Lenovo site are Installer Packeges which runs on windows.
I am stuck, any help will be highly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Ashik

I am Trying to update the BIOS on my G530-35U to 6get18ww (currently 6get17ww). I did not automatically install when I run the file 6get18ww, maybe because I did not have the battery in place (I forgot) all it did was to put all it's 17 files (BIOS.wph, mfc42.dll, ... winphlash.gid, etc.) in C:\DRIVERS\BIOS\6get18ww.
Are those files the ones you are talking about it?
Actually I will copy all but those txt files into a CD and I will try to boot from it.
otherwise I will just copy large size executable file BIOS.WPH other?
I will report here if I don't forget.
    thanks

  • BIOS upgrading without windows

Recently I have purchased HP Pavilion g6-1118tx Notebook PC. I swiched it from  windows 7 to linux(ubuntu).
But for each bootup i getting "thermal shutdown occured,..bla bla...". I really disappointed to see this issue from world class vendor like hp. i found BIOS upgradation will solve this issue, but BIOS update is only avilable in windows 7 executable.
It is really annoying and un acceptable. I need proper answer from hp regarding this. Else i need replacement.
    regards
    Arun

    Hi, Arun:
Unfortunately, HP is not going to do a thing regarding your request as they only support your notebook for Windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit.
You elected to install Linux, which is your prerogative, but that isn't HP's problem.
The BIOS flashes are only writtten for windows 7, and even if you try to extract the actual flash files out of the download, I don't think they will work.
If you want to update the BIOS, you will need to reinstall the supported operating system.
    Regards,
    Paul
