BIOS won't start - MSI GS70 Stealth

Hi,
I have a GS70 but since I tried to update the bios (in the bios utility), the bios won't startup anymore. When I press 'del' during setup the screen goes black with a '-' on the screen. However windows does startup correctly when not entering bios mode.
I tried to do a flash through the DOS prompt with the following command 'afuwinx64 E1771IMS.E50' (I have the non raid version) to try to restore the problem but this didn't fix it.
I hope someone has a fix for this problem.
Sincerely,
Jochem

Just solved the problem thank you darkhawk.
If anyone has the same problem, here is what I did.
- Prepared a MSI HQ memory stick
- Since I couldn't boot from USB anymore I pressed F3 during bootup
- Then in the menu go to dos-prompt
- go to memory stick
- type flashwin64.bat
- after update hold power for 4 sec
- Disconnect power cable
- hold reset button for 5 minutes (since you can't remove the battery very easily on the GS70)
- insert power cable
- boot up
thank you.
You shouldn't need to hold reset for 5 minutes, but holding it for 20 to 30 seconds should be sufficient. Needless to say, I'm glad you got the issue fixed.

  • MSI GS70 Stealth Pro 17, Nvidia Settings won't SAVE

Hello, I bought new MSI GS70 Stealth Pro without windows.
I Installed Windows 8.1 (Original ), than I downloaded drivers from MSI website, and GeForce Experience from Nvidia site, It installed automatically driver 340.52. It strange that on msi site recommended driver is "332.38".
And I have one problem, when I play, use laptop, it doesn't use Nvidia Graphic Card as recommended.
When I go to Nvidia Control Panel, Global Settings> And I change to use automatically Nvidia Card, instead of Intel Integrated> than I click Apply, Control Panel get stuck for 2 sec, Not respondig for 1 sec, and return. Now it shows Nvidia Card as recommended, and when I close Nvidia Control Panel, and Open it again, it shows Intel Integrated as recommend, So why it Doesn't remember the settings. Anybody knows the issue? It's annoying in gaming laptop with GTX870 I can't use it.

  • MSI GS70 Stealth - Micro-freeze while gaming

    Hello,
I just bought a new MSI GS70 Stealth laptop recently (about 2 month ago) and since the start I'm having some problem while gaming. When playing most games, for example League of Legends, Path of Exile and many more I have, now and then, a screen freeze that last about 1 second. My FPS stays the same, so does my ping. It happens not only after a while of gaming and I don't think it has something to do with overheat (I think).
That's for the problem, now I'll answer the few basic questions I know I'll probably be asked :
    - My power plan is High performance
    - I'm on windows 8.1 Update 1
    - I am plugged in when this happens
    - I updated Intel drivers and Nvidia drivers to the latest
That's about it, so if you need more information just tell me what and how to get it and I'll post it as soon as possible!
    Thanks!

I did three tests, one at rest, the other one after a freeze, and the last one before a freeze.
    At rest :
    Before a freeze :
    After a freeze :
When the freeze happens, we can see that the last bar (Highest reported hard pagefault resolution time) goes from 55621 to 2361273... I guess we might have found something!

  • Model and brand name of the hdd and msata provided with msi gs70 stealth 077

i would like to know which brand and model is the hdd and msata is used in the msi gs70 stealth 077 series laptop.
also can i add one more msata myself after buying the laptop?

just a note hchg, apperently i think msi uses Hitachi and TOSHIBA drives in all of their GS70 so it shouldn't depend up on country since Hitachi apperently is a quality drive so since your paying hige price for laptop which means you get quality hard disk it's not like msi would put WD drive or SEAGATE drive in any of their MSI models at such price.

well, I never image that a gaming NB could be so slim like a Ultrabook, I guess this GS70 is made by metal and with very advance thermal design, the VGA and CPU is the highest power consumption parts and GS70 just handel the balence of thermal and high performance..... you can tell by the picture that is super slim....

  • The Rise of Ultra Gaming MSI GS70 Stealth

    MSI GS70 Stealth
The Rise of Ultra-Gaming-Ultrathin Shell + Extreme Performance[/SIZE]

    Hi Eduard
    1. when system is under heavy loading, the CPU temperature could reach almost 9x degree, don't worry, it is normal condition and under Intel CPU specification, once it is over the temp upper limit of CPU, the CPU will turn into throttling automatically
    2. the NVidia OPTIMUS is an automatically function that there is no way to switch on/off
    3. fan noisy when idle mode, normally it should be very quiet because it is dual fans design, if this noisy still bug you, you may find a nearest service center to check this acoustic level for you
    hope that help...

  • MSI H61M-P23 (B3) Successfuly updated bios won't start the pc.

    Hey guys,
I have a major issue now. I accidentally started updating bios on my motherboard, but after tackling some major problems regarding the usb format and missing files, I have managed to get it updated successfully. Now I have another problem where my PC just won't start. I won't even give me a beep. Basically what happens is that it starts working for a second. The fans spin, and my keyboard and USB LEDs flash for a second and then it does that over and over again without even starting up.
    What do I do?

Try clearing cmos (>>Clear CMOS Guide<<) else the board is bricked as the update failed. You can either have it flashed with an SPI flash programming device by a pc-shop or MSI (not for free of course), replace the board or rma it if still under warranty (what is most likely not the case).

  • [Solved] Msi Gs70 Stealth Pro Issues

Hello, i'm running the gs70 Stealth pro.  Everyone probably knows the specs already as they are listed on the site.
I was expecting to run pretty smoothly through most of the games but i tend to lag even on games that don't require that much intensity.
I will play games like "Sir, you are being hunted" and i still get about 15-19 fps on medium/high settings.  This game shouldn't even be a problem for the laptop, but its way too hard to play that game under these circumstances.
Games like "Planetside 2" lag pretty bad as well.  I'll get a solid 45 fps on low setting, and on high settings (not even ultra) the game lags too the point of unplayable.
Weird things will happen where it says something about the display driver failing, but it fixes itself.  This will happen at random times and is rather irritation.
I've updated my graphics card, and everything else.
    What could be the problem??
Thank you, i really enjoy this laptop, but at this rate.  It wasn't worth 1900 for; i wouldn't even pay 1000 for this to be honest.  I don't really wan't to send it back, i like the way it is.  Please help me.

Try to update the VBIOS from the website.

  • MSI GS70 Stealth Pro - mSATA Question.

    Hi there
I am interested in buying this machine. Collecting some information before I do that.
This machine seems to have 2 or 3 mSATA slots.
    Questions:
          1) Can I use my own mSATA drives in these slots OR the drives in these slots fixed from OEM?
          2) Does any one know what's the maximum capacity of these mSATA slots? is It 128GB, 256GB or 512GB?
    Thank you.

    There are three mSATA slots.
    http://dragonarmy.msi.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64976#.U_7AAMWSwuE
    1. Think you should be fine as long as you have the mSATA interface SSD.
(Safer way is to ask MSI for the tested SSD lists to avoid compatibility issue.)
    2. From the website, it should be 256GB.
(Try to google around if there are people who talks about 512GB on GS70 Stealth Pro)

  • MSI GS70 Stealth Pro 2PE - Burning issue!

Dear MSI forum users, I am here to ask your opinion on my experience with this laptop, for the most part it is a good machine, but I have experienced a few issues...
First off I noticed that the Space bar only worked on the left side of the bar or the middle, pressing from the right never worked and you had to push down hard to get the left side to respond, I thought maybe it's just a defective key, but upon googling I saw that other users were reporting this, I also noticed the trackpad is abysmal and trying to use it for left and right click is useless, luckily you can disable it and use the mouse supplied with the laptop.
Anyway, when I noticed the space bar issue I thought it such an issue that I should RMA the laptop, to see if the bar could be fixed, however the exchange I had with the technical support guy at OCUK (where I bought the laptop from and have been a loyal customer for years) simply said the following "no one else has contact us about a faulty spacebar. It may just be that is how they are designed and a replacement will not fix the issue. Laptop keyboards are not generally the best as they have to be compact and slim to not avoid conflict with other components."
well that to me didn't seem right, having spend £1450 on a laptop you expect the components to be in working order, I had previously purchased 3 x MSI GX740 from them and all of them still work currently, none of them ever having space bar or track pad issues, nevertheless I had to continue with this laptop since they would not repair it.
The laptop has been running OK over the past year, but I have noticed two more very strange occurrences in the operation of it now.
First off, there's a video of the sound it is making, its like there's a fan in there trying to spin up, but falling back down at the last hurdle. THIS HAPPENS CONSTANTLY, from boot to shut down, it doesn't ever stop doing it.
Please search for my channel Daniel Sharpe on you tube as the forum won't let me post external links :S the video is titled MSI GS70 2PE Fan Failure?
now heres something that really concerns me, for my health mainly, the laptop is running so hot it is leaving burn marks on my legs through trousers, I have got a cooling pad now, but even still I NEVER had any issues with heat dissipation on the MSI GX740 models, no cooler needed it sits on my lap fine and does not burn me, but this one does?!
here are some pictures, the left leg is worse, it fades slightly overnight but yesterday it was purple, I spoke to a doctor who said he has never seen anything like it in his life, it looked like chilblains to him but obviously with the opposite cause, his advice was that prolonged use could cause long term damage, but even if I use it for an hour it burns me.
however, here are speed fan temps for idle (with a cooling pad now in place)
and here are  speed fan temps for load
and to top it all off the space bar has now come unclipped from the board and won't go back on properly.
So there we have it, there's a few issues with the laptop, I am mainly worried about the heat and the strange sound coming from one of the fans? (I Think)
please let me know what you think I can do, whether MSI would carry out repairs or something, as a laptop, this clearly isn't fit for purpose, as it can't sit on your lap without burning it!

GS series are slim & light models, so their temperature must be high and gathered on the surfaces of the bodies. If you're running demanding apps/games, it's uncomfortable and not recommended to put it on the top of your lap (although it's called a laptop). Some laptops won't have this problem that's just because they are not performance/gaming laptops at all or for office use. Some of the laptops are thick and the temperature was decreased and dissipated by the air flow when the heat propagated to the surface.
The screenshots of the temperature you provided are normal for GS70 2PE. The CPU/GPU temperature did go to such a high temperature (actually their top temperatures are between 100 to 105 before throttling themselves). The surface of the bottm of the laptop may be just several millimeters below the CPU/GPU and thermal pipes, so it's definitely very hot when running CPU/GPU intensive apps/games. If putting on your lap for a long time, it definitely causes the low-temperature burn, like the hazard when attaching some warm bags on your skins for a long time.
Regarding the fan noise & touch problem, I would suggest you insist to ask the service point to inspect, repair or maybe replace them. Fan noise may be due to the quality of the fan after a long period of working, but for keyboard they should have other keyboard parts on which the space problem won't exist. I think this is just a flawed keyboard.
I have a Apple Mac Air in my home and it's very cool, but it can't even run SimCity very well. For GS70 2PE, it's just a piece of cake.
I understand what you are saying in regards to the games and temperature, but it looks more like a design issue to me, the MSI GX740 that I have had for 5 years never burned me and did run most of the latest games at decent settings.
I have dealt with this issue by buying a cooling pad, so I'm satisfied on that front.
I did send a support request to MSI about this computer for the fan, touch pad and keyboard issues, but have received no reply as of yet, is this something I should resend? as I have never contacted them directly for repairs before I am not sure of the process!
