Laptop wont boot with new memory installed please help
Hi I am trying to upgrade my laptop memory to two gigs When putting in the I gig modules in each slot the laptop will not boot. When I put in the original 256 memory module in slot one and the 1 gig in slot two I get it to boot and it only recognizes the 1 gig slot. Even with belarc it shows only slot one with 1042.

That sort of thing is typical of incompatible modules. Turns out that unless you order your add-on memory from Toshiba or buy memory made by Kingston, you'll likely as not have that difficulty.

NF 750-G55 Wont boot on new build
Hi guys
OK, Just assembled my new PC in its bare bones state. I'm using tested DDR3 corsair 2x2GB 1600MHz, a brand new phenom 955 and a well used and reliable 650 watt Ernmax? PSU
I'm getting no action on start up, just the 4 blue LED lights. The CPU fan slows after a while, is this normal on this board even if it hasn't booted?
I have checked the output from HDMI DVI and VGA. Also all 4 LED's stay illuminated.
How can I check what bios edition my mobo shipped with? There is a very suspicious code that looks like the bios version on the side of the box it reads 911-7578-002
The mobo is in an empty case fastened in. It has the atx connector securely fastened, and the 4 pin power connector. I have reseated the ram a few times and the CPU once.
Any ideas welcome, as my old PC is now sold off over eBay So im desperate to get going againCPU brand, model and speed

BIOS wont boot after install X
So I install the May drivers. Get the sound card to at least play sound. I then turn the computer off ( EVGA 680i, QX6700, 8800ultra, 2gigs PC28500,X-fi FPS Gamer Fatalty, Vista Ultimate32bit) Next day I turn it back on and it wont even go to bios. I then have to reset my whole CMOS which is annoying as hell and then it boots again. I have had to do this twice so far...which is everytime since I install this card.
Im thinking of just yanking the **bleep** card out. I got 5. to work, but when i play music sound is coming out of one speaker, DOH. All in all I wouldn't be so piss if there wasn't the bios problem. Any way to fix this? The funny part was the main reason i got this card was cause of the dri've bay console looks fetching in my black brushed aluminun TJ09 Silverstone case.Satellite A305-S6916

Try this. Download a repair disc from here.

If you can reach the Recovery Environment by booting that, try the Startup Repair and let us know what happens. Sometimes you need to run it more than once.

Macbook wont boot from new hard drive.
I installed a new Western Digital 500GB hard drive into my Macbook Pro (2006 edition). The computer boots up, but it just stays at the screen with the apple and the thing circling underneath it. It won't go any further than that. I have to boot from my external hard drive to get to the Operating System.
Also it won't shut down nor restart unless I hold down the power button.
I installed Snow Leopard 10.6 on the new hard drive. The longest I waited was like 10 minutes. Should also note that there is a CD stuck in my CD/DVD optical drive (I used an external drive to install snow leopard)...I don't know if that's interfering. It didn't interfere with my old hard drive.
I've also used Disk Utility. It says the disk needs repairing, so I repair it, and it says successfully repaired, but I can't shut down or restart the computer, so I have to shut it down by holding the power button. When I turn it back on, it says it needs repairing again. Maybe it's not saving because of the improper shut down?
Please helpWelcome to Apple Discussions!
Did you format the new drive before trying to install the OS?
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1885474&tstart=60
Try that, and if still no joy, you might have a defective drive. If so, WD will replace it under warranty.
Good luck! -
Hi all, im new to this forum but it seems great, i read around abit and found some useful posts.
However, i have the following setup :
Msi 975x
c2d 6400
2gb corsair xms 6400 c4 ( 2*1gb )
7900gs PoV
Aspire 550 psu
I just put the parts toghether again, after having the parts returned to vendor, he claims the first cpu didnt work, and returned the motherboard while i waited for a new cpu to arrive. When i got it i tried the system again, but the following error is still there ;
The system wont boot, other than the fans will spin up but no screen at all, just stands there, when i use the usb led thingy, it shows 4 red dots.
I saw some posts about OCZ memory that wont work, but those were reported as memory issues by the led if im correct, and as i can see it arent 4 red dots the code for CPU , or can the code be wrong and its still the memory ?
The new cpu i got was in an unopened box so it was really new, but i refuse to believe i have broken 2 cpus or have recieved 2 dead cpu from vendor.
Any ideas would be very much welcome.
Cheers // BaboonBaboon,
You're not the only one surprised.
I bought THREE 975X PUEs and every time I have re-visited the MSI website I have found new caveats for something the board won't do, or for something that won't work, or for something not included . . . no fixes, mind you, just oddly worded "escape clauses".
Here are some examples:
MSI Reminds You...
• DDR2 800 needs to work with Intel Conroe CPU with FSB1066.
• The default memory frequency is DDR2 667, you can set to 800 in BIOS settings.
• Due to the BIOS limits, the Intel RAID and the JMicron RAID functions can not be enabled at the same time, which will cause the system unable to boot up.
• The RAID setup floppy disk is optional depending on the districts. You can download the files from the website to make the setup disk.
• To enhance IDE transfer speed, you may install JMicron IDE/SATA Driver. You may download the driver by clicking the "Driver" icon at the left side.
• The floppy disk cable will be optional.
Yep, the first one was a big surprise to a lot of us sticking in our P4s. Hello? Well, OK, maybe the "CPU Support Chart" should have been the "CPU Semi-Support Chart".
OK, I'll even give MSI the first one. But the third bullet! Now that one just flat makes me laugh!
Beta Board! MSI didn't design this Board, it just kinda "happened". -

K9N Diamond - Wont boot after BIOS update
Just attempted to update the BIOS on my PC and it now wont boot. Used LiveUpdate with the Windows flash option (don't have FD drive). The lights on the D-Bracket 2 get as far as LED 2 Green, 1,3,4 Red. I have already tried to Clear CMOS with no joy.
Any suggestions on how to proceed much appreciated - and yes, I already know, I've probably done something stupid
Thanks

power down PC, remove power cord from the PSU, push several times power button to drain capacitors, then Clear CMOS and leave only one memory stick into DIMM slot close to CPU socket. pull back power cord and try to boot.
in a future do not update the BIOS for no reason....(only becouse its new, only becouse new BIOS maybe got a new logo and e.g...)
Looks like I'm back in business now. I found similar instructions at this location http://www.bosamar.com/K9N/trouble.html and followed the First Procedure.
Booted ok with one mem stick, in bios fail safe mode. I counted 7 short beeps while booting then one long beep. Not sure if this is ok. Read about bios beeps here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=82221.0 and the final long beep seems to indicate a pass???. Anyway, Vista appeared to come up ok and I checked everything in the hardware device manager and all looked fine.
Proceed to reboot with all mem sticks back in place, again same beeps but Vista coming up ok.
Next I switched bios to optimized defaults, but now 6 short beeps - no long beep. Windows looks ok. 6 beeps appear to indicate a keyboard problem, but kbd seems to work fine???
System looks ok now, but not sure if i should look into those beeps a bit more? BIOS now at 1.3, should I leave as is or revert to an earlier revision?
One thing I know that I am going to do is to install the FD drive from my old PC
Thanks for all the help.
BTW, the reason I did the BIOS flash was as a last resort to get my sound to work. Tried the various creative driver as suggest elsewhere on this forum but without success (as of yet there is no official vista compatible audio driver for my mb from MSI). The JAUD1 connector looks to be connected as specified in manual (but no audio from either the front nor real panel audio connectors). -
Installed new memory and Macbook Pro wont start.
I bought a total of 8GB from PNY for my mid 2009 MacBook Pro (2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo). I installed it and my macbook wont turn on. When I press the power button it just beeps. The LCD doesnt turn on. I reinstalled it a few times to make sure that it is sitting correctly with no luck. I reinstalled my old memory (2x2gb) and it works fine.
The new memory I bought is PNY 8GB (2x 4GB) Bual Channel DDR3 PC3-10666. The package says that it is compatiable with 1333MHz and 1066MHz. This is the listed memory on the PNY website for Mac laptops.
Am I using the worng type of memory? I'm pretty sure my MacBook Pro can take 8GB...right?
THANKS!One beep indicates no RAM installed. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1547.
What happens when you reinstall the old original memory? Does the computer boot then?
You might want to read the information at macsales.com (OWC). Certain models had to be updated to take additional memory.

After v1.90 BIOS update Satellite Pro A300-1EA wont boot up
I have just upgraded my laptop to the new BIOS as stated in the title but after doing it my computer now wont boot up at all. I just get a blue screen with it asking me to do a CHKDSK because there might be a virus or that the hard drive isn't connected properly (when it is), and it just keeps rebooting.
It wont start in safe mode either. Anyone else had the same problem and if so, how do I get my laptop back?? :(
Thanks for any replies. Please don't be mad on me but I think you really didn't read users manuals you got with your notebook. There is exactly described how you can have factory settings again.
So, now you are 100% sure that recovery image is not on the HDD but you don't know how to have factory settings again. Strange.
Remove battery, connect AC adapter only and disconnect all attached external devices.
Start your notebook and enter BIOS settings. Set it to default settings and try to start OS again.
What happen exactly? -
New board wont boot, help please
Hi.
I have just bought MSI K9A2 Platinum with a quad core phenom 9950 black edition cpu. and ati 4850 pcs 1GB gddr3 pci-e 2x 2BG corsair ram.
I built the rig but when i push the power button everything seems to work, fans spin, cpu warms up graphics card warms up (the heatsinks) but the monitor says no signal.
Sometimes the monitor goes into standby and other times it stays on but with no picture.
Has anyone come across this problem and does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?
I have cleared bios, unplugged all usb pins etc. tried with 1 mem stick and 2 , and un plugged hard drives.
Many thanks for any help. Thanks for all the suggestions.
The board is now booting. one of the memory sticks is dead, wont boot with it in, take it out and its fine
The problem i am having now is i cannot create an array.
in the create an array options, option 1,2,3 don't do anything but 4 does.
I managed to format the drive and the OS is loading as i type, but when pc boots it says no array created, so if I am getting the Sata speed right, if an array isn't created then it wont be running at full speed.
Ive tried changing bios setting in sata control bit... IDE, Raid and a....... cannot remember other options, but none of them work.
OS is now up and running, everything seems to be working. just strange that it wont allow me to make an array.
Any ideas thanks -
Satellite A105-S2001 wont boot after memory upgrade
I just tried to upgrade my memory from 512mb to 2 gb using 2 1gb memory chips from crucial. When i insert both memory chips at the same time my laptop wont boot, it'll attempt to but stop in the middle of the process and try again 5 or 6 times. Nothin shows up on the screen. The same thing happens when i put only one 1gb chip in. When i put my old 512mb chip in and one 1gb chip the computer boots but only recognizes 960mb or ram. i also updated my bios.
thanksSounds like incompatible memory. Fortunately, Crucial is very good about honoring their compatibility guarantee so you should be able to get them exchanged. You can get very strange results with incompatible chips due to the differences in timing specs. That would account for what you're seeing. I assume it works normally if you have just the original 512MB chip in place.

New Neo 4 Platinum Wont boot past WIN XP :(
Hi, Im hoping someone can help me, I just built my system, its
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
AMD 64 3200+ 939 0.09
2 x PC4000 Crucial Ballistix (running at 200mhz)
4 Lighted Fans, Lighted case,
DVD RW, CD ROM ,
Floppy with Multimedia,
XFX Geforce 6600GT 128mb
Antec Trupower 430w 26a on the 12V, 36A on the +5V and 28A on the +3.3V
Ok, Everything works fine, till WINDOWS boots up ... And it wont boot, before the windows XP loading screen, it stays black, and freezes.. now.. to me it seems like memory/ power supply issue. lowered timings, raised Memory to 2.8v (Crucial suggest this voltage for the ram) ... no go... now my power supply is a good power supply.. but its only 20pin, and the nforce 4 ultra (well MSI) is 24pins ATX 2.0.. mine is a standard ATX12V... its supposed to still work, but Ive had mixed bagss of peopel saying it worked for them, and others that said it didnt.. but with this power supply, shouldnt I have been fine.. PLEASE someone help me, this is eating me alive...Oh man this sounds familiar., i'm having some of the same probs. I just redid the install of XP Pro sp2 cause i needed the nvidia raid drivers for the NCQ on the Seagate i got.
The first install went fine but i couldn't oc more then 220fsb with this Corsair pc4400, so
i was like ok let's just get everything running sweet and then play. So after i added the
printer a usb scanner and a usb memcard reader for the camera, it would just hang after the boot logo for xp then it would hang on the Platinum screen sometimes too.
So i played with the voltages which seemed to help for a little bit., i went 3.3%+ on the cpu, 1.5 on the north bridge, and 2.70 on the mem. So i reformatted and used the 6.39 chipset drivers and the latest vid drivers from the manufacturer and everything seemed ok. So i proceeded to add the printer, scanner and card reader again 1 at a time and it seems like it's after the mobo gets warmed up is when it hangs on booting XP after the bootscreen., Cpu temps are at 35C and this mobo in a Cooler Master Cavalier case runs kinda warm for me like at 36 - 37C (According to Cool n Quiet) after it gets all warmed up. So i'm kinda at a loss here too. I got the same psu as the first poster. Memtest 86 ran for 4hrs, with no errors, and Sandra burned in for a couple hours with no problems.
Oh and the mobo say's the bios is the 1.1 dated 1-12-2005
So i'm hoping it's a bois thing that will be resolved soon, or is it this psu. Seems like some other fellas have had no probs with lesser psu's. Oh and do those 20 to 24 pin adapters make a difference? -
MSI GT628(-455NL) new memory, doesn't boot
Hi there,
I have a MSI GT628 Gaming Notebook, and 2 days ago I decided to upgrade the RAM modules, because I need more memory for school (need to run multiple virtual machines at the same time on my laptop).
The stock memory is 4GB = 2x2GB Samsung SO-DIMMs, DDR3 PC3-8500 running at 1333MHz and 1,5V (also confirmed with CPU-Z)
2 days ago I bought 2 new SO-DIMMs, 2x8GB Kingston ValueRAM DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz 1,5V (CL11)
Normally if you buy faster memory in the same class it should crank it down to 1333MHz and msot of the tiem work normally, but I can't boot up my laptop with this new memory.
When I start my laptop, you hear the fan blowing for a second, then it stays on black screen with only the pwoer light on and scroll-lock light.
I've tested both 8GB modules oen by one seperately, on both slots. With only 1 of them installed it's the same. With the second one seperately it's also the same, and also tested on the other memory slot.
It keeps booting into black screen.
When I put the old stock memory back in, it works instantly, so the sltos are fully working.
With 1 of the old sticks and 1 of the 8GB, it also doesn't work. Same result.
I've reset my BIOS to factory defaults (via the BIOS menu) with the stock modules in, turned my laptop off, and put in the new RAM. Still the same result.
Does anyone have an idea what's wrong?
Can't my laptop run PC12800 modules and should I really buy PC-8500 ?
Maybe a BIOS jumper reset/CMOS battery reset would do the trick?
Thanks in advance,
