Bird box camera footage - Export question

Hi all, I have just got a bird box camera and recorded a lot of footage of birds. I am now in the process of editing the nest box footage with Premier Pro. My question is, what is the best format to export to the web? The footage is excellant and around 10MB. Ideally, I would like the footage to be viewed on most browers. I have tried AVI, MPEG etc. Shall I be looking at flash streaming instead. Hopefully, with the correct format, most people can view my nest box footage without any problem. Please can anyone advise. JF

Flash seems to be the number 1 choice, followed by WMV (not easily viewed on MAC's).
It was raining cats and dogs when the two friends, that were playing golf arrived at the 14-th hole. One said to his friend: "Look at that bird-watcher over there. Can you imagine bird-watching in this kind of wheather?"

Just guessing, but Windows wont see it unless you have a driver/interface that makes it appear to windows as a video device.

  • DVX footage - Exporting question

    Hi Guys,
I know I am going to get some reply's directing me toward tutorials and such but i'm in a bit of a tight spot and I need some instant karma. I have searched here and on DVX user but cannot find what I need.
I shot some footage of my g/f yesterday and we need to send it way across the Atlantic via my idisk asap. It's something she has choreographed for an animation. It's only preliminary footage but they DO need it and i'm not getting the sample video files I was hoping for.
Due to the crappy light conditions in the studio we used I shot it using my DVX 100's standard scene file F1 (progressive off).
Using Final cut 5 (on a G4 Mac Powerbook, running Leopard) I imported it set to DV NTSC (I'm in the UK but my DVX is NTSC). I didn't go for the 29.97 as I thought that was used when shooting 24p.
The footage looked fine on the time line and in the viewer. I only made a very basic edit and added text slugs at the beginning and then exported it using Quicktime Conversion. I exported using Apple Intermediate Codec and MPEG 4 but when I watch them back both codecs show nasty lines around the edges of anything moving ie. my girlfriend.
I assume this is something to do with interlacing but unfortunately I am not yet at the level of understanding to either know this for sure or, more importantly, do anything about it.
If anybody can I would really appreciate a shove in the right direction here. The footage we shot is clean and I REALLY need the footage we export to be clean too. I also understand that this is a very complex subject and I am currently reading as much as I can to try and learn about all things video.
Right now it's about getting my settings right and knowing which format is best to export to.
p.s. Should have mentioned that this is probably going to only be viewed on computer monitors.
    Hope someone can help,
    Double ohh

    X,
    Apart from my iDisk being the usual drag it is, everything went superbly. I played around a bit and quite quickly came up with my clips in the following formats;
Exported through Quicktime Conversion - Quicktime movie - H.264
    Quality: High
    Key rate: 24
    Frame rate: current
    Key frame: Every 24
I left the frame size native and checked Deinterlace.
I am a bit unsure as to why the files came out differing sizes as the 4 takes were all from the same angle and for the same length. The lighting may have changed a bit, but not much.
The largest file came out at 108MB and the smallest (of four) was 78MB; quite a result (for me).
I know you guys must get a continuous flow of questions like mine from people (like me) who don't know the basics. Especially concerning DVX related issues. I am actually reading Barry Green's Book and regularly reading posts from the likes of Shane Ross and Noah and checking sites like Ken Stone. But it's a tricky subject to get to grips with and I really appreciate the chance to be able to get help and advice here.
Thank you very much for your time and your patience today. It was a great help and I don't think I would have gotten the footage where it needed to be had you not given me such a decent explanation. Thank you very much.
As an experiment I exported one of the files again changing the frame size to 640x480 and the frame rate to 29. It cam out at 62MB and just as good quality.
All the clips I exported did not suffer from the lines that I had previously been experiencing.
    Thank you once again,
    Double Ohh

  • "Ghosting" with 24p cam footage exported to .mov

I have a Sony HVR-A1U camera and I shoot everything at 24p. When I export the move files in imovie they always come out "ghosting" or looking jagged...anyone know what i have to do to fix this? also...this happens in every quality...except when i do cdrom...i cant see it then..but in full quality its definitely there...

Try exporting using 640x480 with square pixels.
    Cheers

  • Bird box streaming server question

    Hi all,
We are a wildlife project and have just bought many bird box cameras from a UK company for our important research project. We want to stream the nest box footage across our intranet and extranet. My question is which CISCO server, managment system should we go for as we are planning to live stream upto 10 nest box cameras? The aim is that the bird box footage will help show all visitors to the website on what happens in nest boxes. If anyone can help, many thanks in advance. Phil J

    Hi Phil,
Are all these bird boxes/cameras in one area? If yes, you connect the cameras to encoders and the encoders connects to a switch via 10/100/1000 copper. The switch could be a 3560 or a 3750 with 48 ports 10/100/1000 copper and  depending on the model 2 fiber 1Gig or 10Gig uplinks.
You would need to run Multicast to stream the data from the cameras to a web server.

  • Can I use Red Cam footage in FCE4

An actor friend of mine has shot a short film with a Red Cam and wants me to edit it.  I assume I'll have to convert it, but can I bring that footage into FCE4, and if so what codec should I use?  And how do I convert it, what program should be used.  When I'm finished editing what codec should I use to export it.  He wants to enter this film in some festivals so we want the quality to be as good as possible.  How will the finished exported quality compare to the original Red Cam footage?  I assume there will be a quality loss, but how much?  And are there any other issues I should be aware of?  Thanks very much--jqs

I don't know whether it will work with some sort of workflow that substitutes AIC foor Pro Res or not. I referred  you to the FCP article so you would see there are a number of moving parts involved. Although I don't know of FCE users editing RED, that's not to say it can't be done. Try some work-arounds and see (and let us know). Alternatively If you know someone with FCP, possibly they would allow you to cut it on their system?
    Good luck.

BTW, I don't think it's possible to unmark this question as solved. If you're not getting views because people assume it's closed, you could always post another question.

  • How to add flying birds to my footage

    Hello guys,
I have some cool aerial footage of a river and I would love to add a group of birds flying over it with tracking feature of AE, I need some 3d animation of birds flying but have no idea if it exists and where to find it, any suggestion ? Seagulls or pigeons... or something white...
    Thanks

Think about what you are trying to do for a moment... That's the most important part of any compositing or VFX project. There are two possible workflows. The first is your suggestion of using stock footage.
First, you need some footage of birds that has an alpha channel or a way to make an alpha channel so you end up with birds and no background. You'll have to check stock footage libraries for this kind of footage.
Second, the camera angle must match the camera angle of your 'cool aerial footage' close enough so you can match the perspective.
Third, you will have to track the river footage and the bird footage, stabilize (remove all camera movement) from both clips, line them up, and then redo the camera movement in the river footage and parent the stabilized bird footage to the camera footage and then animate the position of the bird footage to give them some movement...
I've been doing AE and Visual Effects for more than 20 years and that's not the way I would go about it. There are just too many variables. The only way to reduce the variables to a manageable number would be to pick the bird footage first and then fly the river shot with camera angles and speed to match.
A more reasonable option would be to create your own flock of birds in a 3D app or a particle system.
I'd set up a 3D camera track in AE, set a ground plane and origin, and export the scene to Cinema 4D. Inside Cinema 4D I'd create my flock of flying birds. (very hard to do in the light version) or I'd create a flock of flying birds in Blender (open source and free) and then composite my birds into the scene.
The potential pitfalls are that your 3D camera solution must be accurate and if the footage was shot by something like a GoPro carried by a quadcopter, you are going to have all kinds of lens distortion and tracking issues unless the shot is very stable and the lens distortion is removed before tracking. Once you get a good track and a good camera solution it's just a matter of animating the birds in a 3D app and having them fly through the scene. There are a few tutorials out there about creating a flock or swarm of birds.
You could also create your birds in a particle system like Trapcode Particular using some sprites or textured polygons and composite that into your scene. There's actually a bunch Particular tutorials out there for creating a flock of birds. Part 2 is here.
The last part of your project would be color and light matching the flock of birds. Blender's camera tracker will do a very good job of setting up some illumination for a scene and there is some support for Blender to AE so if you're on a budget and have a bunch of time to learn about Blender's camera tracker and animation tools (give it a week of solid study) you can try that.
I hope this helps. Some things are not as easy as you think until you change your approach.

For DVD you can't use H.264.  You need MPEG2-DVD.

  • Synchronize 2 camera footage -- How to nudge smaller than frame increments

When synchronizing dual camera footage in FCP, my method of lining up audio events, how do I nudge the tracks closer together without snapping to the frame? In Pro Tools, it is called Spot editing. I can't find info about this in FCP Help. Sorry for the newbie question. Thanks for your help.

With video you can only edit down to the frame level. In fact I don't know of any video editors that let you move beyond frames as that's how video operates. You can edit and slip audio on a sub-frame level. Look in the manual under sub-frame audio editing for an explanation on how to do it as it's a tricky (but useful) feature.

  • Exporting question #53427

I read through exporting questions for over the last year, but I came away more confused than ever. Here is my problem (which others had, but I'm looking for the quickest solution):
I made a 3 hour video on iMovie 8 only to read about its limitations afterward. I used information I found on some post to download iMovie 6 and then export my iMovie 8 project to it for its finalization.
I tried to export the movie LARGE size and it took 6 hours only to end up with the message error -2125.
I then tried to export to Quicktime, but it was scheduled to take 30+ hours.
Is there an easier way to get the iMovie 8 project into iMovie 6 in order to complete it?
(As a side note, I have a 2003 copy of Final Cut Pro which I have not installed. Would this be worth installing on my MacBook to transfer the project to that?)
    Thanks as always.

iDVD accepts projects of up to 120min.. so 2 DVD would be enough, allthough ≤60min allow the best quality in iDVD ..

  • Upgraded to ios6 on my iphone 3gs and email is not displaying images. It has a blue box with a blue question mark inside

I just upgraded to ios 6 on my iphone 3gs and I noticed on a couple of incoming emails that the images and information are not being displayed. There is a blue square box with a blue question mark inside. I already tried to press the home key and power key to restart. The email still does not display correctly. I went on my laptop to retrieve that same email and I was able to see the graphics and information, so the problem is on the iphone. I received two emails like this, so I'm missing all the important information. I also tried to retrieve my email through the internet browser and I still have the same problem. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I forgot to mention that I have an Ipad 2 also and I can view the email information on there also. I received an email from Party city and it said to click here to print out the coupon. So I click the coupon and there is the little blue box with the question mark. This is the first time I've seen this happen, as I have printed out the coupons before. Maybe it has to do with the IOS6 update, because this just started to happen right after the update.

When importing a CD, the "CD Lookup Results" dialogue box came up and I choose the wrong CD title.  Now iTunes is wanting to import a different song list than the one on my CD.  I've shut down my computer and opened iTunes from the hard drive Program Files and tried to import the CD again with the same problem.  How can I retrieve the "CD Looup Results" diaglogue box to choose the correct CD title to fit the song list on my original CD?

You might also be able to do it without importing the songs again I think. Just highlight the tracks, right click them and choose "Get Track Names". This feature only works on CDs that were imported via iTunes.

how to hide the file name (the bizarre number assigned by the camera) when exporting an image version in aperture from an album. Pl understand I want to keep the file name in the project library version.

Within Aperture you have Images, which are constructed on-the-fly from two files (the Master and the Version).  You get an image-format file _only_ when you export an Image.  You select the file name (usually a scheme) when you create an image-format file (that is, when you export).  Look under "Aperture→Presets→File Naming" for built-in Presets.  You can, of course, create your own or customize any provided.
The Preset is applied to only the file newly created by your "export" command.  It is not applied to the Image in Aperture (unless you rename your Versions or your Masters).
