Birthday and iCal...the big fail of Apple

Why it isn't possible for Apple to program iCal right in the year 2009?
I want that my contacts with birthday entries automaticly get entries in iCal. But what is with OS 3.0 no Birthday entry is seen.

Ok, maybe I forgot the check box in iTunes, but it will not resolve the problem I have.
If I add a new contact on my iPhone and set a birthday for him, it will not appear in iCal on my iphone.
Maybe it will appear after synchronisation with iTunes, but it isn't uptodate, isn't it?

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Then reset: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go.(No data loss) Try it again.

So in Disk Utility, with the external harddrive selected, go to the Partition tab, and then under "Partition Layout:" select 1 Partition.
After than, verify that it is formatting the drive as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled) under "Partition Information"
Also verify that it's using using the GUID Partition Map under the Options button at the lower left of this window.
Then click apply and confirm that you want to format the drive. It will ask you if you're sure, and probably for an Administrator password.
Once your harddrive is formatted properly, you should be able to use Time Machine, or any other Mac backup software.

The password is the same, the mail address has to be an iCloud address (Mac, Me or iCloud) which may or may not be the same as the address you use to log into iCloud.

This is how we resolved it. Used a 32GB Flash Drive formatted the drive HFS+ and then copied the PKG folder and files and then brought them to the target Mac and copied the files over and ran the PKG and Exceptions install. Everything seems to be installing fine now.

What happened to my rentals menu item on the apple TV. It is faster to download a movie and watch it on my AppleTV than directly from Apple and my password generally fails on apple TV. I want that menu item back please.

Last night I was surprised that the latest update of my Apple TV software excluded rentals from my PC. I have two movies in queue and want to watch them on the Big Screen but cannot find the RENTALS section of the Owner's Library menu. No warning just gone? Not what I expected from you guys. Please advise me as to how I might get that item back.

OK, Problem solved. Software on Apple TV was VERY outdated. It had been sitting in the box for over a year and needed an update. Problem solved!

In trying to update itunes to version 10.7 I get messages that older versions of "Bonjour" and "Apple Software update" cannot be removed and so the update fails. Itunes works well on my old ipod nano but not on my new ipod touch? Any ideas

Any ideas as to how I can update an older version of iTunes to at least version 10.7 given the problems I'm having with "bonjour" and the "software update"?

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get aCode 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Updateentries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

We started off with the original iPhone a few years ago and now between my wife and I (plus Kids) we have too many apple devices under the same apple-ID (2 X iPhone 6+, 2X macbook Pro, 2X iPod-touch and 1X iPad)
We are constantly running into issues because everyone in the house is using the same apple id, downloading Apps using the same ID, sharing the same cloud and receiving each other's iMessages.
I know that I can create another Apple-ID, what I am unclear on is once I do have a new apple ID, how do I assign that to half the devices (1X iPhone 6+, 1 X MBP and 1 Ipad)

I'm not sure what they told your at the Apple store, but each Apple ID can only create a single iCloud account. If you want separate accounts for all these devices, they will have to be created using separate IDs. Note: you can do this and still share the same ID for other services such as your iTunes store account. The iCloud ID does not need to be the same as the ID used for other services.
To create an account, go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with a different Apple ID. If you want to migrate a copy of the current iCloud data to the different accounts, start by saving any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll. If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the devices keeping the current account will not be effected by this), provide the password to turn off Find My iDevice and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted. Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data.

I updated to Lion and now the Search function in Apple Mail is not working properly

Even though the "All" option is selected, when I type a string in the Mail spotlight search box, the string is not found. But I know for a fact the string is in an email and I've manually found the email (in a folder) and copied and pasted it into the search box. Mail is still not able to find it.
I have also checked to make sure that "Message contains" is the option in the search box. I've noticed that in some previous searches there has been a little arrow dropdown option next to the magnifying glass icon. But that arrow is not showing up consistently...and is not showing up now.
What am I doing wrong?

Ok...here's the steps to fix this as efficiently as possible. I have a whole bunch of mailboxes under "On My Mac" and they have a bunch of mailboxes nested in them. I get my messages into Apple Mail via IMAP. (I don't know if this matters.) The steps below assume you have a similar setup.
1. Hold the Option key down and click the dropdown arrow next to each mailbox that has one. This will cause all nested mailboxes below it to appear.
2. Go to the top of the list of mailboxes under "On My Mac" and highlight the first mailbox. Then hold the Shift key down and highlight the last mailbox in the list. This will cause all of the mailboxes and nested mailboxes to be highlighted.
3. From the menu, select "Mailbox --> Rebuild" and the rebuild process will start.
4. Watch the top of the mail screen to see the message count change as the mailboxes are being rebuilt. Wait until the activity stops before doing the next step.
5. As the mailboxes were rebuilt, many messages were reset as "Unread" even though every message was previously "Read." Make sure the mailboxes you want to affect are still highlighted. Right-click and select "Mark All Messages Read."
That fixed the problem for me.

Resetting User Password in Lion and Mountain Lion
Boot into your Recovery Partition by holding down the Command and R keys whilst booting.
When the Recovery screen appears, go to the Utilities menu and open Terminal.
In Terminal, type:
resetpassword
...a small app will open and allow you to choose the user for whom you want to change the password. If you are the admin, be certain that you choose your admin user. Type in your new password twice and give yourself a good hint. Click OK (or Done or whatever) and reboot, enjoying the use of your new, hopefully memorable, password.

Qmaster and Compressor - the big questions....

I have a G5 and a newish G4 laptop. I've looked up and down this discussion, but still have these basic questions:
1. Can both computers work from one source file and create one compressed file, together, without splitting the result into segments? (eg. take 1 hour long DVCPRO HD quicktime and encode it into one h.264 quicktime movie that i can send to a client)
2. Why in compressor under the clusters pull down menu do i only see "this computer" and not the quick cluster i attempted to create in system preferences (on my g5 i selected Quick Cluster with services (including unmanged servces from other computers, and on my laptop i selected sevices only). Also in Q administrator, i see both computers in the service browser but the actual service types when i twril down each computer are greyed out...

The solution for you is to make the services you want to use "managed" on each computer. Then create a new cluster in Qadmin. You will then see the processors un-greyed and you will be able to drag them into the new cluster you created. Be sure you have set up one computer as a cluster controller with services.

I tried to install Itunes 11.1.4 on Windows 7 64 bit and got the error message, "Service 'Apple Mobile Device'(Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privilliages to start system services."

I have administrator privillages so I dont understand what the problem is. I have loaded previous versions of Itunes before. Has anyone else had this problem?
