Birthday calendar in iCal 1.5.5

iCal no longer shows my birthdays from Address book. How do I get it to display them again?

Why are you still using iCal 1.5.5? It may explain why you are having problems.
You also indicate that you are using 10.4.9, is there any reason that you have not updated to 10.4.11?
AFAIK iCal 2.0.x is the most current version for Tiger, and I do not know the ramifications of using 1.5.5. Matter of fact, Apple says: iCal 1.5.5 is not compatible with OS X 10.4 or later
If indeed you have 2.0.x try these steps.
First of all, make sure that you use the iCal>File>Back up Database menu command.
Next, Try refreshing the iCal plist file. Quit iCal and find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Drag the file to your Desktop, log out/in or restart and check iCal for normal behavior.
If that is unsuccessful, then select iCal>Preferences...>General> and then de-select/re-select "Show Birthdays Calendar."

The birthday calendar is read-only, so you cannot set alarms. If you want them, turn off the birthday calendar and use John Maisey's script Dates to iCal instead.

No option to add birthday calendar to iCal

Don't know what I'm doing wrong, but there's no option under General Preferences to add a birthday calendar to iCal.

Just to cover all bases, you do have birthdays in Address book, right? (You are using Address Book for your contacts, right?)

I create a birthday calendar in iCal and then click on it in iphoto at the begining of the calendar project each year. Some how the birthday did not populate the photo calendar. Is there a way to add the birthday iCal calendar into the calendar project?

The photo calendar is almost complete. Is there a way to add the birthday iCal calendar into the calendar project? I would prefer not to start over.

If you first select the calendar on the left, so that its background is highlighted blue/grey, when you make a new events they should be added to that calendar.

Can't see birthday calendar on iCal but shows on iPhone and iPad

I cannot see the B-day calendar on iCal. It is set ON within iCal calendars, the Bdays are set in Address. I can see the Bdays on both iPad and iPhone, any clues?
Also I cannot "clear" to do's on iCal if they were set on the iPhone or iPad.
Can anyone help me? please

While logged as 'Y' you can load 'X's calendar (if you have permission) by manually entering the appropriate url, http(s)://[domainof_server]/ical/[username_of'X']

ICal birthday calendar from Tiger missing after upgrade

Hi,
I recently upgraded from Tiger to 10.6.7 Leopard. I noticed that iCal did not import my Birthday's calendar that I had manually created in Tiger. None of my birthdays show up except for one when I select "show birthday calendar" in iCal preferences. I have done the following:
Removed from Leopard and replaced with my Tiger data the following:
com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist
com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
com.apple.iCal.plist
I have also removed the iCal folder in the Application Support folder in my Library. After I did this I reopened iCal.
That didn't work so I tried removing the Calendars folder from my Library and reopened iCal to no avail.
I also rebooted into Tiger on my external to verify that the missing "birthday' calendar is still there, and it is.
I tried backing it up when I was in Tiger, than rebooting in Leopard and tried importing the backup to no avail also.
Any other suggestions?
Edit: The calendar that I had created "Birthdays" does show up under "On my Mac", but the actual birthdays are nowhere to be found.

The birthdays for the iCal birthday calendar are taken from your address book
You will need to have one contact page and one birthday in your address book for each person.
Otherwise enter the names onto the correct dates in iCal and set them to repeat each year which is what I have done. I run couples and families in my address book.. Most of the Grandkids don't have their own pages

Duplicate Birthday calendar entries in Notification Center

I have many contacts' birthdays saved with their contact info. This created two calendars: one "Birthdays" calendar in iCal on my Mac, and one "Birthdays" calendar in my iPhone's Calendar app. I want to keep each of these in their respective places.
Here's my problem:
Both show up in Notification Center. For example, my friend Bryan's birthday is tomorrow, and it shows twice in the Notification center (once, pulled from the iOS Calendar; the other, synced from iCal).
I've disabled the imported calendar from displaying in the Calendar app (so I only see iOS's "native" entry listed on my calendar). But it still shows both in Notification Center! Any ideas how I can get rid of the duplicate NC entry, without deleting the calendar itself from either source?

Mystery Birthday Calendar with OS4 Update

After I updated to OS4, I found that all my birthday entries appeared twice in my calendar views on the iPhone. Investigating further, I found that when I viewed all my calendars, I had two categories of calendars. First, I had "[email protected]" which correctly showed the three calendars that I sync over Mobile Me (including my birthday calendar, synced from iCal). Second, however, I had a second calendar category/group titled "Other" that showed one calendar "Birthdays."
I have unchecked this second Birthdays calendar to remove the duplicate entries from my calendar views, but I cannot figure out how to remove this "Other" calendar completely. This "Other" calendar group and the second "Birthdays" calendar appears neither on Mobile Me on the web or in my iCal.
Suggestions?

The "Other" Birthdays calendar is a new feature and genertaes the birthdays using the data in your iPhone contacts. It's the same as the Birthdays calendar in iCal and Outlook.

Birthday Calendar and Other Subscriptions Sync Problems

Is there a way for the Birthday calendar (when turned on in the prefs) to be synced to iCal on my iPod Touch?
I've also noticed that my Holiday calendar subscription doesn't sync. Is it that the iPod Touch doesn't sync subscription calendar?
Perhaps this belongs in the iPod Touch discussions.

1) publish the birthdays calendar from iCal, then
2) send a publish email to your own email address (one the iPhone checks)
3) click the link in the email on the phone. It should open iCal on the phone and download the calendar.
You can confirm by going to the calendars main screen. It should have two subcategories now, “Mac.com (MobileMe)” and “Subscribed”.

Birthday calendar on iPhone

Is there a way to synchronize the Birthday Calendar with the iPhone? My other calendars all synchronize, but as that one is part of the contacts it does not. Contacts are synchronized with birthday information, but it does not put it into the calendar on the iPhone.

If you have a MobileMe account and you have Calendars on for over the air syncing, you can't sync direct with iCal via the iTunes sync process. You can do one or the other only, not both at the same time.
At the present time, syncing subscribed calendars over the air is not supported, and the iCal Birthdays calendar is a subscriber calendar. Syncing subscribed calendars will be supported beginning with firmware update 3.0 to be released this summer.
What I have done in the interim - I exported the subscribed Birthdays calendar from iCal followed by importing the exported calendar as a standard calendar. You can't have two iCal calendars with the same name, so I named the new calendar for the import - B-Days. This calendar is synced with the MM cloud which in turn becomes available on my iPhone. This calendar isn't updated when adding a birthday for an existing contact or for a new contact, but this is temporary until subscribed calendars are supported for over the air syncing with firmware update 3.0.

is the automatically created birthday calendar in iCal only capable of displaying the birthdays of local contacts or what can I do to include the birthdays of my Exchange contacts as well?

ICal cannot save new entries in Leopard!! When showing Birthdays Calendar

It happens after upgrading to Mac OS X Leopard. I'll tried the same iCal and Address Book with a Mac OS X Tiger 10.4 and it works fine!
The problem:
- Occurred after upgrading to Leopard
- When turning on the "Show Birthdays Calendar" (in Preferences...)
- Changes in iCal, e.g. new entries, amending existing entries, deleting entries, etc., will NOT be saved!
- It works again if the "Show Birthday Calendar" is unchecked
- It also work with a "small" address book but not a BIG one -- My original one has over 2,500 contacts. If I replace it with a small one, these's no problem encountered.
Appreciate help!

Could it be that the setting Sync Services in Entourage doing the erasing entries?
I am having fits trying to stabilize calendars and sync. Entourage to iCal to .mac to Nokia E61i is an awful chore, often long hours not successful too.

Ical birthday calendar wrong dates

Hello,
I have an issue with iCal regarding the birthday calendar.
It works pretty fine syncing with address book, but it ads the birthday obviously twice. The birthday itself and the day before the birthday. When refering the URL in iCal it directs me to the Contact card of the person and there is only the correct date.
Why does iCal do that? And more important, how can I solve that problem and remove all the wrong dates? Because it is anoying to have birthday reminders for people twice. It also looks pretty dumm in the notification center of Mountain Lion. With two birthdays of the same person in a row. Mostly it has one year difference as well, so the same person turns lets say 29 the one day and 30 the other.
Any ideas?

I've just checked forward into 2014 and I see that it doesn't re-occur then.
Strange, it's just one person and it's only happening in 2013. Their birthday is on 31st March and there's and entry for 31st Mar and 1st April.
I'm not going to worry about it anymore.

When I try to add a new event to iCal a dialog says "you can't add or change events in the Birthday Calendar". How do I cancel this?

You can not add events to the birthday's calendar. To add birthday's to the birthday calendar you need to add the birthday to a contact in the Contacts app.
You can set your default calendar here:
iCal > Preferences > General > Default Calendar and chose the calendar you want to default to.
