Birthday calendar notifications?

I've got several contacts' birthdays input, so my question is this:
Will I receive a notification, like I do with other manually input events, when one of those dates arrives? Or is it just a passive note marked on the calendar?
I ask because when entering a separate event, you get the option to set an alert but with the contact b-days no option exists...
I guess I may have to delete all contact b-days and enter all manually as events on the calendar itself if no alert exists???

I just noticed this problem on my phone. Every one of my birthdays is multiplied about 30 times. It doesn't have a calendar icon next to the event so not part of any one calendar. Says it's part of my gmail calendar but if I hide that it still shows. Only if I hide my iCloud calendars as well do they disappear. Clicking on them doesn't give any edit options. Also says a contact has been invited and when I hit that it shows a huge email address with random numbers and letters @virtual.com - spam? I dunno. What's going on here!?

  • Duplicate Birthday calendar entries in Notification Center

I have many contacts' birthdays saved with their contact info.  This created two calendars: one "Birthdays" calendar in iCal on my Mac, and one "Birthdays" calendar in my iPhone's Calendar app.  I want to keep each of these in their respective places.
    Here's my problem:
Both show up in Notification Center.  For example, my friend Bryan's birthday is tomorrow, and it shows twice in the Notification center (once, pulled from the iOS Calendar; the other, synced from iCal).
I've disabled the imported calendar from displaying in the Calendar app (so I only see iOS's "native" entry listed on my calendar).  But it still shows both in Notification Center!  Any ideas how I can get rid of the duplicate NC entry, without deleting the calendar itself from either source?

  • Birthday calendar in notification centre alerts

    Hi there
For some reason, all my birthday calendar entries have changed their alerts which means that in notification centre, instead of the birthday alert appearing the week before, the alert now only shows on the same day.
I generally like to have a weeks notice, so is there any way of changing them all to alerting 1 week before?
    Cheers

Where do you see the default birthday showing as Nov. 30? If you can explain that, I can probably modify the below script to do that clean up.
In response to the original problem:
I'm not sure why I missed the original reply, but here is an Applescript that will change all the years of any selected contacts to 1604 (default for no year).
    tell application "Contacts"
              set thePeople to selection
              repeat with aPerson in thePeople
set theDate to birth date of aPerson
if theDate is not missing value then
set the year of theDate to 1604
set birth date of aPerson to theDate
                        end if
              end repeat
    end tell
copy and paste it into a new Applescript Editor document. Select all the contacts you want to change (in Contacts), then run this script by clicking on the green Run button in Applescript Editor.

  • Ical birthday calendar wrong dates

    Hello,
I have an issue with iCal regarding the birthday calendar.
It works pretty fine syncing with address book, but it ads the birthday obviously twice. The birthday itself and the day before the birthday. When refering the URL in iCal it directs me to the Contact card of the person and there is only the correct date.
Why does iCal do that? And more important, how can I solve that problem and remove all the wrong dates? Because it is anoying to have birthday reminders for people twice. It also looks pretty dumm in the notification center of Mountain Lion. With two birthdays of the same person in a row. Mostly it has one year difference as well, so the same person turns lets say 29 the one day and 30 the other.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks for your help.
I've just checked forward into 2014 and I see that it doesn't re-occur  then.
Strange, it's just one person and it's only happening in 2013. Their birthday is on 31st March and there's and entry for 31st Mar and 1st April.
I'm not going to worry about it anymore.

  • HT2513 Had to import Birthdays from yahoo calendar. Is there any way to move them to the iCal Birthdays calendar without manually inputing them each into Address Book?

I used to use Yahoo Calendar to manage my birthdays and notifications of them. Yahoo screwed with something, so now I no longer get birthday notification texts to my cell. Now, I've imported my Yahoo Calendar dates in to iCal. iCal has a Birthdays "subscription" calendar which only shows birthdays entered into the Address Book. I do not have any birthdays entered into Address Book. Is there any way to select birthday entries from my other calendars and move them to the birthdays tab, or must I manually enter over 200 birthdays into Address Book?
While I'm here, is there any way to highlight specific calendar entries and move them to a "new calendar"?
THanks in advance for any and all help.

looks like this is not yet an option via yahoo/sbc

  • How do you turn off birthdays in notification center?

When I synced Facebook and my contacts, every single one of my friends birthdays were synced with my calendar. I turned off the birthday calendar in the app but they continue to spam my notification center EVERY DAY. Does anyone know how to stop this? If not could we request an update that let's us?

    unfortunatly, you can't.
In iOS 6 (or in iOS 5 for matter of fact), birthdays are pulled DIRECTLY from your contacts app and then displayed in notification center, and not through the calendar app. So doing anything from Calendar app won't do anything.
The only solution, sadly, at this point, is to disable contact integration with Facebook if you have issues. Currently, there is no proper fix for this, and I'm afraid we won't be seeing any fix for while....

  • Mountain Lion Birthday Calendar Duplicates - no icloud

Like a few other Mountain Lion Calendar users, I also have duplicate birthdays.
I see the actual birthday, normally, and in addition to that a "birthday" the previous day shown as "year - 1" (37th instead of 38th, for example).
    I am not using icloud.
I have tried check-uncheck. I comes back within seconds.
I have no duplicate cards in my address book and in my address book the birthdays are correct and not duplicated.
It happened last week, but now I cannot see last week's duplicates anymore, and future birthdays are also correct and not duplicated. It seems that this occurs only for the birthday occurring the next day. I then get a notification for "X's 27th birthday" the day before that person's 28th birthday, and on the birthday I do get the normal notification for "X's 28th birthday".
Has anyone seen this? Should I submit it as a bug report to apple?

Hello Randy, ... hmmm... did not work for me, not the same way anyway. I could not find any duplicates using the demo version of Bento.
NB: I have recently changed my hard disk and moved everything using Time Machine. This first did not change anything (I didn't expect it would).
I waited for the next birthday to come and was again reminded yesterday of a 57th birthday which is actually a 58th birthday today. So basically I was reminded 364 days late ;-) ... as described above, nothing changed.
So I tried again and turned off the birthday calendar in the Calendar preferences, then back on.
    (What happened before:
    - first the correct birthdays appeared
    - then the "364-day-late" birthday appeared after a few seconds... (as if there was a second process going on, adding the wrong data to ical).)
This time, so far, only the correct birthdays have been added as "birthdays".
But: now, after having used Bento to visualise the ical data and after having clicked birthday calendars off an on: on many of the birthdays (but not all), appeared a new "all day event", e.g. "1974 John Smith", in my default calendar category... I am erasing all these now.
Let's see what happens. There are a few more birthdays coming up this month, so I can keep you posted.
    Thanks again...

  • I create a birthday calendar in iCal and then click on it in iphoto at the begining of the calendar project each year.  Some how the birthday did not populate the photo calendar.  Is there a way to add the birthday iCal calendar into the calendar project?

I created a birthday calendar to use in iphoto for calendar.  When a new calendar project is started each year, I click on it in.  Some how the birthday did not populate the photo calendar this year.  The photo calendar is almost complete.  Is there a way to add the birthday iCal calendar into the calendar project? I would prefer not to start over.

    Hi,
If you first select the calendar on the left, so that its background is highlighted blue/grey, when you make a new events they should be added to that calendar.

  • Birthday calendar bizarre repetitions and other issues

I have the STRANGEST things happening with birthdays on both my iPhone (5, 32GB, white, iOS 6) and iPad (32GB, iOS 6, white).
I'm posting it here in the iPhone forum, assuming more people may be able to help.
First of all, I sync a Google Apps calendar with my iPhone and iPad via CalDAV. I also sync my Google Contacts with my address book (including birthdays), which syncs via my MacBook on OS 10.6.8 using the sync icon in the system tray. (I hesitate to call it MobileMe, even though that's what the System Preferences calls it, because it really has nothing to do with MobileMe -- it does not sync via MobileMe [I do not have an account], it just syncs my Address Book with Google with my phone or iPad when hooked up. It is through a WIRED connection that it does the final sync to the device.)
So, my birthdays from my address/contact books and my Google contacts DO sync and they DO show up on both my iOS devices in the fancy Birthday calendar with the cute cake symbol, as well as in my Google calendar.
    NOW HERE'S THE CRAZY PARTS.
Sometime recently, my birthdays were getting repeated. But oddly, enough they are a different amount on the two iOS devices. I have 18 copies of all birthdays (on the same day) in my iPhone calendar and 68 (YES, SIXTY-EIGHT COPIES) in my iPad of every birthday.
My Google calendar shows NO SUCH ERRONEOUS copies.
The crazier thing is that the copies of the birthdays are NOT on the birthday calendar. In fact, IT'S AS IF THEY JUMP AROUND ON DIFFERENT CALENDARS. They show up all one color, but some random color. They will appear or disappear only SOMETIMES if I turn "off" some calendars or others (for example, once they would go away if I hid a "Personal" calendar, another if I hid a calendar I subscribe to via Google but sync via CalDAV from Weather Underground, and another calendar that is a Google calendar but also my "default calendar" in the iOS settings). And this is all within minutes.
When I go into an instance of the repeated calendar event, it will actually say it belongs to my default calendar, regardless of what was hiding or showing it before.
When I try to "edit" the birthday just to see what happens, it crashes the app.
    WHAT. THE. ______???
    Here's what already I've tried:
Searching the internet for someone with a similar problem. NADA.
Turning off the option to sync my Google birthday calendar via the Google sync page (I think it's actually unnecessary anyway, since iOS pulls from the contact book, anyway). That did nothing.
Hiding all calendars and then selecting them to show one at a time to figure out which calendar was causing the problem, but as I mentioned above, it is not consistent.
    Re-syncing my devices with iTunes.
Searching for and merging duplicate contacts in Google contacts.
Turning off the iOS birthday calendar.
Killing and re-starting the calendar app.
    Re-starting my iOS devices.
Re-syncing my contact book with my devices.
Someone. Please. Tell me you're having this problem and that you have the solution? I'm going crazy over here! I can't remember anything that may have triggered this to happen.

I figured it out! (Or at least, it's been fixed for a day on both my iPad and iPhone.)
By the way, I discovered more oddities, but I'm not going to even bother with describing them.)
I am assuming everyone here has been syncing their birthday calendar off of Google/Gmail (whether CalDAV or Exchange, it doesn't matter).
The key to this is to know three things:
    A) Tgara was on to something: syncing the Google birthday calendar in your Google sync settings -- even though it does not show up in your calendar list on the iphone/ipad -- is the culprit.
    B) BUT, simply un-syncing will not make them go away unless you completely un-sync all your Google calendars. Once the repetitions get into your phone/iPad via they are kind of "stuck" there, and you've got to go back to the beginning to un-stick them for good.
    C) Thus, it may require some trial and error because I had to repeat this a couple times. I may no have the right order of operations, but this is my best recreation/guess.
How I fixed it (I had to repeat a couple times for some reason):
    1) I'm debating whether you have to do this step (I think I did it on my iPhone, but not my iPad, and yet both worked), but it doesn't take long, so you could just to be safe: on your iOS device, Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars -- delete your Google calendar account.
    2) On your iOS device, go to the proper Google sync page to choose what calendars are available for syncing.
    For Exchange, go to: https://m.google.com/sync/settings/iconfig/device
For CalDAV and Gmail/normal sync, go to: https://www.google.com/calendar/b/0/iphoneselect
For Google Apps CalDAV (although it worked for me on the normal page above), go to: https://www.google.com/calendar/hosted/yourhosteddomain.com/iphoneselect
If you're not sure which method you use, do both of them.
    3) Sign in and choose the device in question (if prompted) and then uncheck ALL the calendars. Save/apply.
    4) Go to calendar app. You should have an On my iPhone or On my iPad calendar and the iOS birthday calendar. Ensure that no repetitions are seen when you check mark each calendar idividually and also collectively to be visible. If there are, repeat the steps above.
    5) Once the repetitions are gone, go to your iOS settings and add the calendar account back in if you removed it in step one.
    6) Go back to the calendar app. Again, you will have two calendars -- one default Google calendar and one ios birthday calendar. Turn on each one at a time and also together to make sure the repetitions are gone. If they are not, repeat the above again.
    7) Once they are gone, go back to the Google sync page(s) and add all the calendars you want back, BUT DO NOT SELECT YOUR BIRTHDAY CALENDAR. Save/apply.
    8) Go to the calendar app. Open up the calendar list. Wait for it to refresh. Now you should be able to turn on all your calendars you wish to see, wait for it to propagate, and confirm there are no copies. If there are copies, repeat all the steps!
YOU DO NOT need to erase your contacts. Not sure about iGust's work-around, but that's unnecessary. And christina44, I actually think this is a different problem. All my copies were on the correct date.

  • Calendar Notification

Does anyone know how the calendar notification works? I have seen on examples a little red circle with a 1 in it on the calendar app. Just like phone, Email and SMS notifications. If I set an appointment on the iPhone as an alert will this generate the calendar notification so if I view the iPhone I know I have an alert in calendar?
Or is it just for invitations? I'm not sure. If it is for invitations how do I set an invitation on the iPhone? Do I send myself an email with the invitation/alert so I get this notification?
    Any help is appreciated

I just sent myself an invitation from my desktop PC and let the iphone fetch the email on it's own. It was a meeting invitaion. I was hoping this would give me a calendar notification on the home screen so I would have a visual when I had appointments. It did not work. Worse yet is when I opened the email on the iphone it didn't even give me a choice to accept or decline the invitation. So basically the meeting invitation from outlook does not work on the iphone. Has anyone else found this out and if so is there a solution or is this another item on the long list of Apple fixes?

  • Calendar notifications keep turning back on

I like to have all calendar notificatins turned off, but every time I restart my computer (iMac 27" late 2012 with Yosemite) I find that calendar notifications are all turned back on - alerts, notificationsin lock screen, notificatin center, badge app, playing sound.  I turn everything off and all works as it should until I restart my iMac and all the calendar notifications turn back on by themselves.  Can anyone help with advice for me to keep the calendar notifications off?  It's really annoying to have to change the settings every time I restart.
    Thanks!

  • ICal cannot save new entries in Leopard!! When showing Birthdays Calendar

It happens after upgrading to Mac OS X Leopard. I'll tried the same iCal and Address Book with a Mac OS X Tiger 10.4 and it works fine!
    The problem:
    - Occurred after upgrading to Leopard
    - When turning on the "Show Birthdays Calendar" (in Preferences...)
    - Changes in iCal, e.g. new entries, amending existing entries, deleting entries, etc., will NOT be saved!
    - It works again if the "Show Birthday Calendar" is unchecked
    - It also work with a "small" address book but not a BIG one -- My original one has over 2,500 contacts. If I replace it with a small one, these's no problem encountered.
    Appreciate help!

Could it be that the setting Sync Services in Entourage doing the erasing entries?
I am having fits trying to stabilize calendars and sync. Entourage to iCal to .mac to Nokia E61i is an awful chore, often long hours not successful too.

  • "Happy Birthday" calendar event virus?

I have an event called "Happy Birthday" on my actual birthday in September on my iPad calendar. Somehow, it's growing. I know have 25 events on my calendar on the same day and a new one appears each time I check.
It says its from "Contacts" with an email of a bunch of letters and numbers then @virtual.
I can't delete these events. I also don't want to remove this calendar as it's got too much work-related events.
I've also just noticed it's done this on 2011 and 2013 but no other year.
Is this a virus? Can anyone help get this removed?

    Hi guys,
I think I've found a solution. I went to https://www.google.com/calendar/iphoneselect and turned off the contacts birthday calendar from syncing. I then went into settings for my calendars and turned them all off as well as my contacts. I then checked the contacts had been deleted from the device and the calendar was also gone. I then closed both the calendar and contacts apps, and then turned the calendar and contacts back on in the settings app. Duplicates are now gone!
Hope it works for you as we'll. even if you don't show a birthday calendar go ahead and update the I formation at this link and it may still fix the problem. My friend did have the calendar but repeated birthdays were still gone once she updated at this link.
