Birthday year in Lion Issue

Having upgraded to Lion yesterday I see that if you use a Birthday Calendar and list the birthday in Address Book, that now in iCal it, trying to be clever, lists what birthday the birthday of the person is.
When I get someone's birthday, I am only focused on the dd/mm and don't care about the year ESPECIALLY with you women who I've always been told never to ask your age
So.. my format for years has been to put the dd/mm/2011 or a year behind the year we're actually in especially since I don't want iCal showing a birthday prior to the current year as it's a waste of data.
But now that iCal and iCloud/Calendar display like: John Doe's 2nd Birthday" I realize I am being forced to ask everyone their birth year too.
I don't have a limit on how far back my calendars track as I see this as my legacy and I want to be able to go back 10 years. It sadly could be important for tax purposes, well at least 5 years back, if audited.
So if I list a 60 year old person, I REALLY don't want their birthday propogating back 60 years. Totally unnecessary. But having iCal say my Dad's birthday is his 2nd birthday is, while not the end of the world, dumb and there's no preference to turn this off.
I've read here that if you put no year, it wil show 1604 or some such which is even more insane. Hello Apple, if you read these, can you please give us a preference so we don't have to enter the birth year, or not display the birth year?
Or.. perhaps someone reading this has some work around or insight I'm not aware of yet?
Best,
Steven

Hi,
If you have several Buddy Lists that Login to AIM then the Menu Bar iCon drop down will show all those that are On line.
There may be some that are Not in a Buddy List when you view it.
It does similar thing with multi-Jabber Buddy lists
The Drop down will show All  but lets say you have  Google List, that will only show you  your Google Buddies (Buddies added to the Google List)
Of course the other thing is that the Drop Down can display Jabber Buddies whilst you look at a AIM (Login) Buddy list or vice versa)

  • Reinstalling Mountain Lion issue.

Reinstalling Mountain Lion issue. After I erased my HD and reinstalled OS (w/o file transfer from other Mac option) - opened Safari and saw my old bookmarks there already. Does that mean that reinstall didn't go correctly?

Thanks for the reply, I will try that tonight.
I'm working on this thory I found on google....
'Booting a new MacBook Pro (Late 2011) from a retail 10.6.3 disc resulted in a black screen and a repeating 3 beep pattern. This is due to missing Sandy Bridge drivers. Apple will ship a 10.6.6 (iMac) or 10.6.7 (MacBook Pro) installer disc'
My OS was the 10.6.3 that came with my iMac. I phoned Apple, they wanted me to pay £18 for 10.6.6
    Hmmmmmm!

  • How to add birthday on Mountain Lion?

Can anyone tell me how to add birthday on Mountain Lion? in contacts there is no such field.

With Contacts open, go to Preferences - Template, and open the Add Field dropdown menu.  Select Birthday.
If you also want to add Anniversary information, select Dates in the drop-down menu. It appears that a new date field is defined automatically as Anniversary - but if it isn't on your machine, it's easy enough to change.

  • Birthday year (Question)

    Hello!
Do we really have to put the person(s) birthday year in the address book? Is there anyway, just have there month/date instead?
    Thanks,
    James

Hi, James - I just enter 1900 as the birth year if I don't know it. Not ideal, but easier than wrestling with the settings.

How do I fix Mountain Lion issue after login where Keychain Access attempts to open, hanging up with "application not responding" message?

You could try booting into Safe Mode to see if that will help. And "Repair Permissions" in Disk Utility.
Have you got Keychain set to open on Login or is it attempting to open on it's own.

  • Summary of Lion Issues

After a failed attempt to restore my early 2009 Mac Pro to Snow Leopard (wasting many hours of time from my business), I am forced to return to Lion OS and all of the negatives associated with this "downgrade."
There is likely little I have to say that is new, but I think all irritated Lion users should post on sites like these so that perhaps Apple will wake up to the fact that they have aggravated many of their most loyal customers and that they MUST resolve some of these issues.  I noted that Apple resently released a customer satisfation poll, but failed to even mention Lion, an indicator that they are clueless about the impact this flawed release is having on many of their users, or worse that they know and just do not care.
To be fair, I cannot claim that all issues are the fault of the Lion upgrade, but my software is 100% current, I am a very knowledable user, and I maintain my system regularly.  I do not use Time Machine, although I am rethinking this decision.  A trusted vendor convinced e that TM was flawed and that it s a waste of time.  I do daily backups to a dedicated internal drive, by my backup software does not do incremental saves.  It writes a bootable backup with the existing software, so once I went to Lion and did my first backup, I was stuck. The folowing issues are in no particular order of significance:
    - After having problems with Safari, I dragged it to the trash and hit delete.  I had no idea that it only loads under SL OS, so Safari is dead.  I now use Chromium.  I have read about Lion restore, but why did not Apple immediately release a working Lion download of Safari?  This is a thoughtless oversight that is simply driving users to competing browers.  I may never go back to Safari as my default browser.
    - When Safari was running, its handling of Cookies was absurd.  The third party block not only does not work, Safari picks up Cookies from websites visited both from other browsers and even (apparently) from other computers (even PCs) on our network.
    - When Safari was opened, I had to deal with a resend form window most (every?) time I used the browser.
    - Every time I shut down my computer I have to uncheck the dialog box regarding how the computer will start back up.  Why not remember my selection?
    - Apple seemingly goes out of its way to make sure Windows can play on my Mac, but shuts down Rosetta.  This cost me several software applications some of which are not doing upgrades, along with the expense of retaining software that did do Lion specific upgrades.  The most critical loss being my decade plus of Quicken files.  During my attempt to revert back to Snow leopard, I neglected to save my Quicken data files, which means years of valuable business and home data was lost for good.  This was of course my fault, but given all of the unused computing power in this Mac Pro, why Rosetta had to be dropped is beyond me.
    - My preferences for certain applications are lost peridically.  My Kensignton trackball for example, loses its prefences about once a week.
    - My passwords for certain applications are lost periodically.  This happens mainly in browser software.
    - The Mail folders were hidden, altghough I hae since learned this was down in SL, prior to the release of Lion.  I have read other useful folders were also hideden, but mail downloads is something I looked at every week.  I learned online how to turn the hiding off, but am perplexed why Apple decided I no longer needed to see these files.
    - My computer clearly runs slower now.  How any OS could slow down a computer with eight CPU cores and 16GB of memory is beyond me.
    - iCal calendar window colapses when I need it open.  Again I have to wonder why Apple would decide I don't need this window open all the time.  When I do my monthly planning, I want this window OPEN.
    - iCal day view is ruined.
    - iCal often defaults to "all day" for an event.  This requires me to drag down these events into the hourly area, one at a time.
    - iCal event overlap makes it harder to grab an event that is now more hidden by another event.  Why?
    - When I select a window in Finder, sometimes the application does not change until I point to the window multiple times.
    - Sometimes when I open a MS Office file, a different file opens, usually the last one I used with the application.
    - Spell check often substitutes the wrong word, making a document or email sound idiotic.  I believe (but am not certain) that previously a word substitute was offered to me as an option.
The bottom line is that Apple sold me an upgrade with almost zero benefits, which cost me and my business hours and hours of down time, along with the lose of critical files, along with the loss of often used software, along with the cost of upgrades.  This "inexpense" software "upgrade" cost me at least a thousand dollars and permanent loss of priceless financial records (again, my error, but due to the upgrade being released).  All this mess so that my OS is dumbed down to work better with smart phones and iPads -- neither of which I own.
A Mac Pro is one of the most overpriced computers sold today.  Why does Apple knowingly impact desktop and laptop users, to appease the latecomers who use phones and Pads?  I have been here since the SE/30.  How did I drop to the bottom of the priority list?
This Lion mess, along with iPhoto upgrades that wiped out several years of family memories and iTunes software geared to maximise profits, not user satisfaction, have me wary of my old trusted friend Apple.  I feel abused and I wish that all who have experienced similar issue would rasie some **** about it so we get the attention we deserve.

I'm curious how you would "attempt" to install SL, and how such an "attempt" could possibly fail?
You boot from the SL disc that came with your machine, you erase the HD, you install SL.  Then you restore your applications and your data files from your backup.
Oh, wait, you don't think your critical files need to be backed up.  That's why you "lost" them.
But you'd still have an SL machine again.
Endless solutions for users (some bone-stupid and near impossible to screw up) to ensure that they had backups and could easily revert... *free* solutions... and the people who couldn't be bothered to take advantage of them want to blame *Apple*?  *** were you going to do if someone broke in and stole the machine?  What were you going to do when the HD died (HD's *always* die).
People who claim to depend on machines, and don't make backups, deserve what happens to them.
So.  If it's important to return to SL on this machine, detail why you think you can't, so people can help you.

  • MB pro and Mountain lion issues

I have a late 2008 MB pro 15 in and since DL osx mountain lion, my MB pro now randomly locks up, the wifi looses connectivity, safari freezes, safar wont finish opening the page, etc What is up with mountain lion?????  When the computer freezes I have to hold down the pwr button to reboot....
In 4 years i never had an issues prior to mountain lion.

I recently upgraded my mid-2009 MB Pro 17 inch to Mountain Lion. After the upgrade I can open Dashboard but cannot access the widgets or delete unwanted widgets. In Launch Pad my grouped applications will not expand when I click on the grouping. I have reloaded Mountain Lion but the problem still exists. I also upgraded my mid-2007 iMac but everything works fine on it. What gives? I have since stopped using Dashboard and Launch Pad. More backward steps from the folks at Apple.

  • TS2755 I have 3 phones on one Icloud account. It has been this way for over a year with no issues. After and update on of the lines started getting text messages from all 3 phones. We fixed the send and receive and it was fixed. It is doing it again.

I have 3 phones on one Icloud account. They have been this way for over a year. After an update last week one of the phones started getting messages for all of the other lines. We fixed this under the send and receive under settings. It was fine for a few days. Suddenly it started happening again. Yesterday after two hours on the phone I changed my apple id and it is still happening. Before that Verizon had told me to turn off my imessage when that happened I could not get any texts at all from other Iphone users.

Make 3 different iCloud accounts and use ONLY for iMessage.   That will permanently fix your issue.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 and OSX Lion issues

I tried to upgrade to Lion on my Mid-2009 MacBook Pro, but afterward I tried to startup Final Cut Pro 6 (which is part of FCS 2), only to be told that FCP6 is a PowerPC application and it wouldn't run. I don't understand this, since I have Shake 4.1 installed on the same computer, and both applications are Universal Binary; after the lion install Shake still continued to work (Shake is older than FCS2, and Motion replaced Shake) while FCP didn't! I had to wipe my haddrive and downgrade back to Snow Leopard, just to use FCP6! What gives?

Pardon the snarky reply, but from a professional editing point of view, one NEVER updates a working machine, unless something is offered in the new OS that one needs right then and there.  And when one does update, one needs to do a boatload of research first, to make sure that every application they rely on is compatible with the new OS.  Because if it isn't, it means the edit station cannot function properly, and that means that one cannot work and make money with that station.  So ALWAYS look, and look well, before you leap.
You want to make use of iCloud, when it is "finally rolled out."  OK, why not wait to update the OS until it is rolled out?  You don't need it now, you need it when a feature comes available.  SO use what you have until it comes, and then research to make sure things work.  And if you really need iCloud, can you not just get another computer with Lion to access all of that?  So that your current system can run under the OS that it works well?  And yes, Studio 2 might have worked under all those previous OSes, but support for the old software will stop at some point, because Apple looks back only so far.  So this might be the point where it doesn't work.
But really, FCP 6 and LION might be an issue.  I do know that the INSTALLER for FCS2 is PowerPC based, and requires Rosetta, and Rosetta isn't included in Lion.  Lion not working with Apple's own software?  Well, yes, it does, the NEWER ones.  The older software?  As I said, they extend support only so far...they can't keep looking back if they want to look forward.  If you want things to always work with the latest OS, then you need newer software.  You cannot expect the older software do always just work...it won't.
Especially since FCP X is out...Apple doesn't give a hoot about supporting the older versions.

  • Asset year end closing issue

Hi, I run ajab to close year 2010 (not 2011)and encounter below issue:
Asset 004110000555-0000 in company code 0000 (depreciation incomplete)
    Message no. AU070
    Diagnosis
The planned depreciation was not completely posted to Financial Accounting for asset 004110000555-0000 in company code IN00 in depreciation area 90.
    System Response
Year-end closing cannot be carried out for company code IN00.
    Procedure
Post the depreciaton using the appropriate posting program (Periodic processing) in Financial Accounting. Then start a repeat run for this asset, if necessary
My depreciation area 90 is "Post assets periodically in General Ledger", what should I do?

    Hi
Is depreciation fully posted for the year 2010. Try to run AFAB in repeat mode for the last period of 2010 in test run to see if any values are coming for posting.
If depreciation values exist, then same needs to be posted before you close the Asset fiscal year.
Also please note for posting the depreciation your Fiscal year and period should be open in accounting.

  • OS X Lion Issues

    Hi there everyone!
I have started this dicussion in relevence to a number of issues i have found while using the newly launched OS X Lion.
I have 13" MBP and this is my spec.......
Processor  2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7 (11A511)
    1: Over heating
One of the noticeable issues i have found with my Mac since i updated to Lion, is how extremly "hot" it gets while its on. I have noticed i dont really have to be running any or few apps before it starts to get very hot and the air fans start to kick in to try deal with the extrem heat?
Does anyone know why this mite be?? I noticed when i use Safari it seems to be the biggest incigator of the problem. I looked up about this problem and forums and from what i can see, it might have something to do with the "Flash Plugin" which is causing the mac to get overheated.
Does anyone know off any other reason for this?
    2: Task Switcher
With OS X Lion, Apple has introduced some great new geastures eg. Launchpad, Mission control Motioned scrolling and these are all great!
But i have noticed by upgrading to LIon that the geasture to open the the task switcher has being removed. eg four finger swipe
Honestly i was a little let down by this as i really liked that geasture and was probably one of my most commonly used geastures as it was a very simple and very quick way to navigate through all the open apps and quicky quit them as i wished.
I now have to hold the command key and press tab. But i have to hold the keys which is less comfortable and more ackward
    Does anyone think the same??
    3: Menu Navagation
Another issue i noticed was that aswell as removing the geasture for the task switcher. Apple has also removed the geasture to navigate through folder menus by simple back and foward swipe motions.
This isnt affected in new safari as the web pages are moved as the persons wishs. But for general folder navigation eg. Finder.
This is another issue which is a letting down the system and makes the system less easy to navigate through compared to Snow Leopard.
These are my only 3 issues so far with OS X Lion so far. Over all i am very happy with the New OS X Lion.
But the lack of these features are holding it back from being better and or near perfect.
I hope by Highlighting these issues that Apple will quickly fix these problems through software updates in the near future.
Has anyone else have any pirticular issues they have noticed while using there mac since upgrading to OS X Lion???
If so please note them here.........

    Hi Gutozz
I actually found out how too fix problem 3......Menu navigation.
If you step up Lion to use 4 fingers push for mission control and 4 fingers for switching full screens and desktops.
It then allows the 3 finger menu navigation swipe to work.
It also works the same for safari, but doesnt include the screen push animation. But you can still drag the page across if you prefer
I took a screen shot of my trackpad settings so you can copy them.

  • Is it a Lion issue?

I installed OS Lion on to my iMac about a week ago. I have CS3 Design Premium installed. Apart from printing issues with ID and Illustrator, which I found the fix for, the programmes worked until today. Now they will no longer open and I get the following message: "Licensing for this product has stopped working". I found the Adobe help page on this issue, and tried all the suggestions, but to no avail. BTW, the Licence Recovery download doesn't seem to work in Lion either. I then uninstalled and reinstalled. No change. It is pretty disastrous. I would revert to Snow Leopard but that seems a negative approach and in any case I have problems with trying to reinstall it - I can't partition my drive for a kick off.
    So, what do I do?

I have a hunch that the uninstaller isn't getting rid of some bad components.
I'd run the Adobe CS Cleaner Utility:
Adobe - Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool
    Then reinstall CS3.
