Birthday year (Question)

Hello!
Do we really have to put the person(s) birthday year in the address book? Is there anyway, just have there month/date instead?
Thanks,
James

Hi, James - I just enter 1900 as the birth year if I don't know it. Not ideal, but easier than wrestling with the settings.

  • Address Book - Birthday Field question

    I was trying to make an entry on the birthday field in one of my contacts. The field does not give me an option to change the year of birth. It defaults to 2000.
    The other question is how can we set up alerts, so that we can maybe send out a card in advance? Thanks!
    Is there a way to fix this?
    imac user

    With the Address card in Edit mode you should be able to click the year field and after it highlights blue, change it to the year you need.
    According to Address book Help, in the Address Book Help Menu;
    You can keep track of contacts’ birthdays by creating a birthday calendar that automatically includes all the birthdays in your address book.
    1. In Address Book, make sure you’ve entered the birthdate for each contact whose birthday you want to track.
    2. In iCal, choose iCal > Preferences.
    3. In the General pane, select the “Show Birthdays calendar” checkbox.
    Birthdays in your address book are automatically added to the Birthdays calendar in iCal. When you add or remove birthday information in Address Book, the Birthdays calendar is also updated. You can’t make changes to the Birthdays calendar in iCal; to change it, you must edit the information in Address Book.
    You can check in iCal Help for info on setting alerts.

  • Birthday year in Lion Issue

    Having upgraded to Lion yesterday I see that if you use a Birthday Calendar and list the birthday in Address Book, that now in iCal it, trying to be clever, lists what birthday the birthday of the person is.
    When I get someone's birthday, I am only focused on the dd/mm and don't care about the year ESPECIALLY with you women who I've always been told never to ask your age
    So.. my format for years has been to put the dd/mm/2011 or a year behind the year we're actually in especially since I don't want iCal showing a birthday prior to the current year as it's a waste of data.
    But now that iCal and iCloud/Calendar display like: John Doe's 2nd Birthday" I realize I am being forced to ask everyone their birth year too.
    I don't have a limit on how far back my calendars track as I see this as my legacy and I want to be able to go back 10 years. It sadly could be important for tax purposes, well at least 5 years back, if audited.
    So if I list a 60 year old person, I REALLY don't want their birthday propogating back 60 years. Totally unnecessary. But having iCal say my Dad's birthday is his 2nd birthday is, while not the end of the world, dumb and there's no preference to turn this off.
    I've read here that if you put no year, it wil show 1604 or some such which is even more insane. Hello Apple, if you read these, can you please give us a preference so we don't have to enter the birth year, or not display the birth year?
    Or.. perhaps someone reading this has some work around or insight I'm not aware of yet?
    Best,
    Steven

    Hi,
    If you have several Buddy Lists that Login to AIM then the Menu Bar iCon drop down will show all those that are On line.
    There may be some that are Not in a Buddy List when you view it.
    It does similar thing with multi-Jabber Buddy lists
    The Drop down will show All  but lets say you have  Google List, that will only show you  your Google Buddies (Buddies added to the Google List)
    Of course the other thing is that the Drop Down can display Jabber Buddies whilst you look at a AIM (Login) Buddy list or vice versa)

  • The birthday year can not be entered in Address Book. Why?

    When I enter a birthday as 1943 it appears as 0043. What is wrong?

    I was reluctant to lose all my birthday entries so I keep trying different things. What I found is that if you enter  the year rapidly it works. If you do it slowly, it does not work. This is repeatable, give it a try. Strange Apple glitch!!!
    Thank you for engaging me in this resolution. Interacting with someone else sometimes brings about new thoughts of how to solve a problem.

  • How to enter birthday years in the contact list calendar?

    I have been entering contact information and when I try to enter the years I end up scrolling for ever to reach the year I need. ex. My one contact was born in 1966 and I have to use the back arrow to that year.  There must be an easier way.  Please help.
    Thx

    when  you edit the contact there's an option for 'other fields'. tap on that and you can enter their birthdays which will then appear in your calendar

  • Birthday year bug for iphone4!!!

    As I'm entering birthdates for my contacts, I am noticing for January 1st birthdays, selecting the year is off by one year. This happens specifically when you choose the years of 1976 and years close to it. For example, my cousin's bday is Jan 1 1981. When I select 1981, it displays as 1980. So I have to select 1982 for it to display 1981.
    I have confirmed this with other iphone4 users. Sorry if I am repeating a bug that some has already mentioned in this forum.

    I too have this problem -- this seems like a very large failure in quality control to consider that shock there might be Old People out there and we might want to have their birthdays to hand! I found it hard to find other reports of this bug though.

  • Birthday Years on iPhone contacts read "1604"???

    A new feature on OSX Lion allows you to display contacts birthdays without listing a year. I removed the year from the birthday of all of my contacts on MB Pro, and then when synced with iPhone 4, every contact's birthyear reads "1604". What is happening???

    i think its an error code

  • Renaming image files & years question

    hello
    how do i change the name of image files? i know how to change the title, but can i change the actual name of the file?
    when i transferred my photos from a previous computer, iPhoto sorted them into years. how does iPhoto sort them...is it by date created, modified, etc? can i manipulate iPhoto to put photos in a certain year?
    Thanks!

    pogi6247
    Do you want to change the name so that the file is easier to find?
    There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Sort "Group by Year" question

    Hi,
    I use Aperture 3.1.1 and have added a project which contains pictures from 2010 and 2011. I have the option "Group by year" enabled and display "newest first". Usually Aperture sorts every project which contains two years above the oldest year. So it should be sorted like:
    2011
    2010-2011
    2010
    2009
    2008
    2007-2008
    2007
    However Aperture sorts as follows:
    2011
    2010
    2010-2011
    2009
    2008
    2007-2008
    2007
    Did I miss a setting here?
    Any ideas on how to fix it so I would get displayed as the first example?
    Thanks a lot,
    Joern

    Any other ideas?
    An easy one to try:
    Create a new, empty Project. Give it a very simple name. Select all the images in the problem Project and move them to the new Project. Delete the old Project. Go to Project view and try the "group by year", "sort by date" again.
    If it fails, try it again with a subset of the images to see if it is an image that is causing the problem.
    You could also rebuild your Library. This is the last step in the progression "Repair permissions", "Repair Library", "Rebuild Library". For a large Library this will take hours.

  • Happy 2nd Birthday to the community!

    Hi Everyone
    Happy 2nd Birthday!  We can’t believe that we’ve reached our 2nd birthday already – doesn’t seem like 12 months since we had out last birthday celebrations!
    We’ve a few things planned for our birthday celebrations this year, including:
    1. Updated homepage formatting
    -  based on your feedback we have reduced the amount of info at the top of the homepage so the boards appear higher up the page.  We’ve also changed the order so the most popular categories are at the top.  We hope you like it!
    2. Prize draw to WIN a Kindle or £50 Amazon Vouchers!
    Enter our prize draw in the Lounge and you could win a Kindle or £50 Amazon vouchers!  Just post your answer to our birthday related question and you’re in with a chance of winning.  You’ve got to be in it to win it!
    3. Mod Avatars
    - Now that they know you a little better the mods are feeling less shy about having their pics as their avatars – you will see that they now have an image of themselves as their profile - now you know what they look like!  Why not let us see what you look like by updating your own avatar by adding an image to your gallery and updating your settings.
    4. Who’s sharing the 2nd birthday with us?
    - We’ve been taking a look at which members registered in the first week and are still active – why not check if your name is on the list?
    5. Vote on which birthday cake you’d have!
    - We’re running a poll to find out what kind of virtual cake we would make for the community to celebrate our birthday!  Vote to tell us what your choice would be!
    And finally I want to say thanks to everyone who is part of this community – whether you’ve been here from the beginning, or are a recent member, we wouldn’t have a community without you!  We know that many of you have landed here with a problem or issue and after getting help from members, you have stuck around and helped someone else – a great example of a peer to peer support community.  Thanks for all your contributions over the last 2 years, you’ve made this community what it is.
    Happy Birthday Everyone!

  • Drop down menu for birthday, inserting into Mysql

    I have a registration form that inserts a new record into
    mysql.
    For the birthday, I have two spryselect dropdowns (month and
    day), and one spry textfield (year).
    Once the user submits the form, how can the selected values
    (month and day) be combined with the inputted year so mysql can
    accept it: YYYY-MM-DD.
    Here is my insert code. I tried concat but I don't think I
    did it right.
    if ((isset($_POST["MM_insert"])) &&
    ($_POST["MM_insert"] == "form1")) {
    $insertSQL = sprintf("INSERT INTO members (Username,
    Password, `First`, `Last`, Birthday, Address1, Address2, City,
    `State`, Zip, Phone, Email, Newsletter) VALUES (%s, %s, %s, %s, %s,

    Assuming you have named the select elements and text field
    "month",
    "day", and "year", you need to add this somewhere near the
    top of the page:
    if (isset($_POST['month']) && isset($_POST['day'])
    isset($_POST['year'])) {
    $_POST['birthday'] =
    "{$_POST['year']}-{$_POST['month']}-{$_POST['day']}";
    } else {
    $_POST['birthday'] = 0;
    Then change this:
    > GetSQLValueString($_POST['Birthday'],
    > $year.$month.$day),
    to this:
    GetSQLValueString($_POST['Birthday'], "text"),
