BIS Plan on Z10 (vodafone)

Hello All,
I am new to BB z10. i want to know if this device support BIS Monthly plan of 399 from vodafone or not?
Thanks
Rajesh

On most carriers you can use a BIS plan if you already have one with your previous device however you won't get the compressed data that BIS offers.
So to explain it differently, a regular data plan is all you need but if you have BIS it should work on your Z10 (but it has been known to negatively affect the operation of some BB 10 phones so beware).
I hope that answers your question.

I think i`m going crazy! I`ve been searching and calling both Tmobile and Vodafone to get this problem fixed! Since the phone used to be Tmobile i called their helpdesk to see if they still had anything locked on the phone. They said they don`t and that i could use any carrier for my phone as long as it has a BIS plan linked to it. So i called Vodafone and they are telling me that it could be because it`s tmobile and that it`s hardware related! Wich of this is true? They also say that the phone is registered nowhere. I`ve checked everything APN is adjusted to Vodafone and i`m using software 5.0. Still i can`t see anything and it wont let me register to the network..

  • BIS for BB Z10

    Hello
I'm gonna buy  a BB Z10 as a gift but it's going to be used in Kosovo where network operators don't support Blackberry Internet Service(BIS). I've been told at carphone warehouse that it might not get connected to the mobile internet because of this.
Can anyone tell me if this phone can or can't get connected to mobile internet, cos if not then there is no point buying one.

    Hello lulichaki
BB 10 devices are using generic data plan. No need BIS or Blackberry data plan which that plans is for BB OS 7 or earlier models.
With generic data plan in Z10, you can browse Internet, bbm, email, whatsapp and others.
    Cheers.

WHAT?! How does this even make sense, Verizon?! If my math estimate is correct, $30 or so dollars a month towards the device on the Edge Plan does not come anywhere near 75% in a 30 day period. Verizon, are you telling me for an $800 phone I would have to pay out of pocket $600 to upgrade after 30 days? Or one of you new disgusting upgrade fees, where it cost just as much or more to upgrade as it does to be a new customer? How you value your long time customers, way to award them for being loyal and paying you so much of their money! Oh the things they'll never tell you when they are twisting your arm!
What's you're issue? Do you think you should be able to get new $800 phones every 30 days for the price of $30? The terms are clear. You can upgrade after 30 days as long as you paid off 75% of the devices cost. If you make you're regular payments that's 18 months. They could just make you wait 18 months Verizon is giving those that want to upgrade sooner an option. Why do you want to upgrade a phone after only 30 days. Choose your devices more wisely.

  • Using TCP plan with BIS plan ?!

    Hi all,
Im using my BB in Saudi Arabia with STC as service provider , but the problem iis we can't use Facebook 1.9 and Twitter apps with the BIS plan even if I use aother service provider .
We can only use Facebook 1.6 ..
For that I'm thinking to use TCP plan at the same time with BIS plan so I use both of them the first one for twitter and facebook and the second for emails and bbm ..
is it possible to use both plans at the same time or not ?

    Hi there,
Unfortunately Facebook and Twitter both require BIS access, so even if you could get TCP access, it wouldn't help.  Your best bet would actually be to check with your carrier to see why you are unable to access either app.  It's possible that the Saudi government is restricting access to Facebook and Twitter, however I do not know of any such restrictions at this point in time, so I'm not sure why you wouldn't have full access via your carrier.
So again, try contacting your carrier and see if they can give you a better response as to why you're unable to use the Facebook or Twitter apps on your BlackBerry.

  • BIS services on Z10

    Hi
Currently i am using BB 8520 curve and using Airtel BIS services. I want to know whether these BIS will work on my new Z10 and if not then what is the option.
Also please tell me if i use normal gprs what is security for mails and other data. Is the mail service will be the same as in the case of BIS like push mail from blackberry server.
    Please help

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
BIS is no longer required for email functionality, though there is some debate as to if BBM requires BIS or not (I think not, and that BIS is entirely eliminated, but the carrier must still provision things correctly for BBM to function). BlackBerry has implemented ActiveSync for email, and it no longer uses BIS as the interface between the email server and the device. The device no directly interacts with the email server via ActiveSync. I do not know what security exists...I believe that if you have BES, higher security may well be usable (likely server set, and requiring BES10).
In some cases, it has actually been reported that leaving BIS attached to an account when shifting to a BB10 device actually prevents many functions...requiring the carrier to remove BIS from the account, which allows the BB to then function correctly. I do not know if this is the case with your specific carrier or not.
In general, all that is required is a generic data plan...but you must ask your carrier for anything specific.
    Good luck!

  • Does BIS over wifi depend on type of BIS Plan???

    Hi all
few days back i bought my first BB ( Curve 8520) & activated BSNL (India) BIS LITE Plan (unlimited e-mail access only, no browser, no social networks etc. ) which is perfect for my needs.
My  problem is i can't get BIS data services over wifi - white dash indication instead of green check in front of wifi connection option, no e-mail over wifi, only browsing is possible.  As my office is basement where GSM Signal aren't available, I am badly in need of BIS over Wifi.
I tried very thing given in the various forms from device wipe, wifi diagnostics, bb ip pinging, telneting, HRT WIFI 60 registration to hard reset etc. many times  & also did talked to Customer Care a lot  but couldn't get my problem solved.
After all communications BSNL Customer Care finally told me that I can access BIS Services Over Wifi only if I take BIS Unlimited Plan (which is 3 times costlier than my current one & quite unnecessary for my needs) & with my current Plan I can't access BIS over wifi.
This makes no sense,  basically I don't believe this, never read or heard anywhere. BB document mentioned below regarding accessing blackberry data services through wifi doesn't mention any caveat like this!!!!!
    h t t p ://uk.blackberry.com/ataglance/networks/Accessing_BlackBerry_Data_Services_Via_Wi-Fi.pdf
    please confirm is it so?
    please help me out guys
    Solved!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
The carriers indeed each do control the services that they provide under different data plans. Further, at the bottom of page 6 of the document you cited, it states:
Check with your wireless service provider for supported services and features. Not all Blackberry data plans support Wi-Fi access to BlackBerry data services.
Hence, it sounds like your carrier does not provide, under the plan you have, access to the BIS infrastructure via WiFi.
    Best!

  • Bringing BIS back to z10 possible ?

Hey all now I 've searched all over the internet to find any method to get BIS to work again as old devices but unfortunately its  gone !!  its really worth disappointing.
my question : Is there any way to bring it back by software update or something ? hope that blackberry find any solution for this
another question : now the Z10 APN default is BlackBerry10.net and the old APN is blackberry.net what is the difference ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Again, you are asking for BlackBerry to give you BIS...when it's actually the carriers that control all services and pricing to their end users. Hence, your requests would be better directed toward them, I should think. If enough carriers pressure BlackBerry to enable an option of BIS-type services for BB10, then they might actually listen and do so. Just do still keep in mind that pricing will be 100% out of the control of BlackBerry...that is up to the carriers.
If BIS truly is a deal breaking requirement for you, then you should not even be on BB10...you should be on a legacy device, which continues to use BIS.

  • Z10 on a normal data plan (not BIS)

After researching whether the Z10 operates on a normal data plan and not a BIS, and of course it worked perfectly on Wi-Fi without a SIM card, just wanted to make sure it is compatible with a normal cellular data plan, I went for it yesterday, and yes, everything worked except for BBM, heck the BlackBerry logo disappeared from the home screen. I contacted my carrier, and they shocked me, they told me it is not possible not to have a BIS with the Z10, and they were surprised I was able to browse the net and send/recieve emails, and they said they cannot support me!!
So why did I do this? A normal data plan is cheaper here in the UAE, my canceled BIS gave me 500Mb for 79AED, and the normal data plan gives me 1Gb for 50AED. Is there any workaround for this before I revert back?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hey ya3goub,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
BlackBerry 10 smartphones require a normal data plan from your network service provider.  However the network service provider must support BlackBerry 10, if not some BlackBerry services will not work.
Also BIS data plans are not available for BlackBerry 10 smartphones.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cheers.

  • BIS on Z10

Hey everyone, So I have this BIS & Unlimited Data SIMcard from an old Blackberry Curve 8520, I want to know if BIS and the data plan will still work on a Z10 that I am planning to purchase because some internet articles say that I won't work and others that it will work just fine. Sorry for my faulty english.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
BB10 devices definitely do not use BIS. On some carriers, it has been reported that having a BIS plan for a BB10 device actually prevents the device from functioning properly, while with others it will operate OK. But it is moot...since the BB10 device will not use BIS at all, paying extra for it (if your carrier charges extra) makes no sense anyway.
    Good luck!

  • BIS not available for Z10 due to carrier request ?

It has been told me (see this post : Z10 without BIS just a kind of pale iPhone copy) BIS was not available for Z10 due to carrier request, thus I sent my Z10 back to my carrier and turn live my old 9860. One question remains: if carrier ask BBY to stop BIS service for Z10, why or when will they ask them to do the same for ALL bby ? Or the information I've got is just bull$ or one day or an other we all be catch in the trap ...
can someone confirm if this is true or not ?

OK but is this a carrier limitation request (and what for)
It is the way the BlackBerry10 operating system is designed to work.

  • I hate the new Z10, handing it over to my wife

I am a Blackberry poweruser. I have Blackberry everywhere along with all accessoirs. The background is, that I am travelling with 4 phones, for every country I have businesses in one phone. I bought the Playbook, to have a quick online banking done and to bigscreen view my emails. When talking emails - I have overall 32 email accounts, most of them with complicated server settings and I was p***ed having to add them one by one (not all of them are working).
Now I bought the Z10, about which I read before and I was excited while waiting for it to arrive.
To make a long story short - I hate it.
The only thing, that migrated from my 9900 was my address book with 960 entries. Email accounts needed to be add manually (10 of the above).
    - No password keeper (needed to download it separatly - why?)
    - No free google maps (dont tell me about sideload)
    - No "select all" function in messages (it does happen, that after a meeting I have to delete almost every message out of a hundred one by one (also dont remind me of the select multiple function)
    - Blackberry Bridge - why having a Playbook with the Z10, when nothing but the internet connection is shared? I could read/write messages, tasks, calender, no I can do nothing. I don't really need the Playbook anymore, because it lost its main ability. Over my 9900 i had the full internet speed on my Playbook, over the Z10 i have literally 59 kb / s!
    - I hated to download another app for the new OS - why is the desktop software still available when link is needed to get to make it work?
    - The maps are available for half of the countries I am travelling in. No Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Russia?
    - When sleeping I had my 9900 turned off and it went on for the alarm in the morning. When shutting down the Z10, there is no possibility to have the alarm bring the phone back on. So basically you need to turn the phone on, to get the alarm working, which should have worked 30 minutes ago.
    - I can change the sound for let's say the telephone but there is only the one loudness - no raising sound available. No possibility to change sounds for each email account.
    - Most of all - What the f**k happend to the perfectly working push mail? Don't tell me, that messages arrive faster than they did, because the don't. When deleting a message on the Z10, I need to do the same on the Playbook and on my PC(s). I know why - RIM thought "why having customers to get extra blackberry plans, when Apple doesn't do that? We could sell the new phone to anyone, even kids and housewifes" - Here is why i hate it - this is what made Blackberry big. Some time ago a friend asked me, what in particular is so good with Blackberry phones (she's a Samsung user) and I said it's the email possibilities. She said, that she'd also check her emails over her smartphone, then I said, that it was faster and more reliable. What can I tell her know? Maybe "Now I have the same s**t you have, but I paid for it a little more and have less apps available".
    - When clicking BBM on the hub, you only get to see active chats, you need to enter the app from the menu, to get the contacts list.
Good things to say about that phone compairing to 9900 is the camera and its focusing, the calculator
My wife likes it (she also has a 9900). It's "cute" and it has linkedin app and she is using the phone only for private use, so she's getting it. Too bad she is not also a facebook, twitter and what not user. Then she would be thrilled about this smart(?)phone of RIMs.
If RIM is going to concentrate on OS10, forgetting about professional users and forgetting about OS7, that this will be my last Blackberry phone and the last for my companies - and we have over 60 of those. (And no, we don't use BES).
Sorry for the chaotic thread, but I am just expressing my anger.

    JeepXJ wrote:
they thought moving away from BIS was a good idea?  I just dont get it.
    Consider...
In some regions of the world, BIS was included at no additional cost. In other regions, BIS included unlimited BIS data usage. In still other regions, BIS is an add-on cost on top of the also-required "normal" data plan.
Example -- in the USA, there are no low-cost unlimited BIS plans. The lowest cost BIS plan I could find was US$50/month, and included very limited data usage (250MB, I think). By abandoning BIS and allowing services to function via a "normal" data plan, I am able to operate my Z10 for a mere US$30/month which includes 5GB of 4G data (throttled after that level). So, for me, abandoning BIS actually allowed me to have a fully functional BB again where, when BIS was required, the monthly cost factor made that prohibitive.
While we cannot know the true "insider" information that surrounded their decisions, for some in the world BB10 will allow them to come back to BB where it was previously not affordable. In other regions, things will be a different trade-off. But it's all moot anyway...it is what it is, with benefits for some, and losses of function for others. And that result is actually pretty typical in the world...businesses must make decisions, and it is fully known that it's impossible to make 100% of the population happy.
    Good luck!
