Does anyone know when BIS service will be available in China through China Mobile?
BES service has been available for some time now, and recently there was news about RIM and China Mobile preparing to start offering BIS service.

  • Activating BIS service in china! Help!

I am hoping someone can fill me in with the general info needed to activate BIS service.
I just moved to shanghai and went to get my BB activated with a service plan. I was told to get a sim with a data plan first then sign up the BIS service online. I did what I was told but after 3 hours (that's how long they said it would take to work), it wasn't activated with BIS. I called CS. They said they already did what they were supposed to do, which was to activate APN. The only reason they could think of was that my IMSI# wasn't provided to the BIS group. Long story short, I got the ImSI, called BIS group and provided the info. After they fiddle around with it, they said it should work...obviously, it doesn't! They asked me to call CS again to double check if ApN was activated and it is.
Now they are investigating as to why it isn't working. I don't think thy have the slightest idea why it doesn't. I want to use my BB so if you guys have any suggestion, I would greatly appreciate it!
A little additional info: my BB worked when I was in hong kong. I manually input the APN setting in my berry. I also tried to register the Host Routing Table and it's still empty.

My unit is not being sold in china at the moment. I will worry about that later once I can get on BIS.
That's actually my point. If the carrier does not directly support the specific model number of BB, then their system may not deliver to the BB the required Service Books in order for BIS to function. I have no way to know if your new carrier falls into this category or not.
    shogun308 wrote:
I used a PayGo plan while I was in hong kong. last I checked in hong kong, BIS wasn't active since I only purchased 1 mth of BIS service. However, the sim card/account still had credits on it so I could make phone calls. Would that be a problem? If so, how do I unregister it? Is this something I could do personally via RIM website or RIM tech support? Or is it something china Unicom can handle.
If this is causal (I cannot know for sure), then the place to accomplish the un-registring is the carrier that has it registered. RIM can do nothing since the carrier controls their own systems.
Before proceeding, please try this, with your new carriers SIM installed in the BB, and please first test that you can correctly use all of your voice-level services before doing the below steps:
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for an "Activation" or "Registration" message to arrive on your BB...there should be just one.
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for one "activation" message for each configured email account (if any) to arrive on your BB.
If there are Service Books left over from your prior carrier, you may have to manually delete them. Sorry, I can't guide you in any greater detail as I've no idea what their SB's might look like...but, if you delete all SB's, then resending them should generate new and proper SBs from your new carrier.
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Terrible apple service in China

Hi fellow apple fans! I have a question. I bought a Mac pro last year and since then I think I'm having some hardware problems. Obviously! I'm terrified with the apple service in China. The first month my hard disk crashed and I had to get a new hard disk. The app support in china took 1week to get me a new hard drive, WHY?
    2. A few days later the OS got a problem and then they asked me to pay almost USD40 to repair, WHY?
    3. Just a few days ago, my charger started having a problem(which I have mentioned in some previous post) and they again ask me to give them a week to get me a new charger,WHY?
Now, my sime question is that when apple charges so much money and also asks us to pay extra for the service, is this what ey offer? To let he customers wait for a week?? Are they freaking out of their mind?
Every time, they ask me to bring their passport, as I bought my computer in honkong to check if I didn't steal it? Or may be to check if I didn't buy it from a gray market...are they nutts?
Before this I used to have HP, and the only problem I got was with the charger which they changed me in one day and for the meanwhile gave me a temporary charger to use, AT FREE COST! Apple takes so much money for such a poor service and by charging so much money! Is it worth!
No doubt the OS is great! I love working on Mac but their poor service makes me hate them! They are like money suckers!
Not the least every time I go there or ask a customer care they just keep forcing me to buy a new two years plan!
So, I would appeal to some fellow who are thinking to upgrade to Mac, that ease make sure u have a lot of money as these fre******** people are just gonnna suck up all your money! Not only when u buy a computer but alsolater. This is the worst service ever!

  • BES vs BES/BIS Service - Restrictions?

    Hi
I have a BB Curve 8900 and I have BIS service on it.  I have friends and colleagues who have BES service on their BB Bold 9700.  Company IT Policy restricts them from adding me on their BBM.  They receive my invite and accept it but it goes into the void.  I am also able to send them PIN msgs and they receive it but they can not reply to them.
My service provider provides a service called BES/BIS where both BES and BIS are provided.  I have taken this now and still have the same problem as before.  My question is, if my friends subscription is changed to BES/BIS will that allow them to communicate with me on the BBM through the BIS?
    Thanks.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Nope. The level of data plan that one has only defines the level of services that can be made available. With BES, if an IT Policy restricts some of those services (e.g., BBM and PIN messaging), then those services are simply not available on that BB. So, changing plans will have no effect on this service being blocked by the IT Policy for as long as that IT Policy exists on the BB.
    Good luck!

  • Regarding BIS Service in INDIA

TO WHOM SO EVER IT MAY CONSERN
    Sir / Ma'am,
My Name Is Jay Mehta(India) and I'm using BB since 3 years.I'm using Curve 9360.
Now BBM Introduce in iOS and Android they are using this serevice on internet they don't have to pay any BIS cost.
One of the store delear to told me that in BB OS 10 you can use all feature on internet you dont need BIS service.
So my point is how long we have to pay 400 INR.?
So is Blackberry(RIM) will launch any update for OS 7 user? So they can use all service in internet cost? Or they will reduce BIS cost?
    Awaiting for your reply,
    Regards,
    Jay Mehta

ALL pricing is a matter for the local carriers to set...BB does not force any pricing models onto the carriers, they decide for themselves what they will charge. In some markets, BIS has never cost more than a non-BIS data plan. In other markets, it has always commanded a premium price. Each market is different, and controlled not by BB, but by the local carriers.
    Cheers, and Good Luck!

Ok but will BBM still work without BIS?
Yes, generically...but only your carrier can tell you anything for sure as they are in control of all of your services. There are many "flavors" of BIS, and some carrier folks still refer to BIS even when they don't actually need to assign BIS for BB10 devices. Such is the nature of a brand new, and very revolutionary change to how BBs function for the carriers. But the carrier does need to configure your account with them correctly so that you receive the services to which you are entitled.
    Lunabel wrote:
Also my Carrier tells me that i do have a unlimited data plan, but its my fault that i get charged because they say that i use APN and i bypass their blackberry network.
I tried leaving APN empty, but by default it puts my carrier's APN, and if i leave it empty it just doesn't let me save.
Also if i use a incorrect APN, i stop having internet.
Its like they don't believe me that i can't leave APN empty.
So i think i will just get a normal data plan but i don't want to lose the BBM.
They need to tell you exactly how all of that needs to be configured for their network and services. For instance, on mine, I cannot even change anything about the APN settings...AT&T's network is configuring those for my device, and locking me out of controlling the fields. So they are responsible for ensuring that information is correct to provide the services I am entitled to, at the costs my service plan dictates.
Everything I've been told is that BB10 devices will receive BBM but do not require a BIS service plan to do so, that a generic data plan is all that is required. But, each carrier controls their network, so yours needs to tell you what must be configured so as to provide you access to the services you are entitled to at the costs your contract dictates.
    Good luck!

  • BIS services on Z10

    Hi
Currently i am using BB 8520 curve and using Airtel BIS services. I want to know whether these BIS will work on my new Z10 and if not then what is the option.
Also please tell me if i use normal gprs what is security for mails and other data. Is the mail service will be the same as in the case of BIS like push mail from blackberry server.
    Please help

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
BIS is no longer required for email functionality, though there is some debate as to if BBM requires BIS or not (I think not, and that BIS is entirely eliminated, but the carrier must still provision things correctly for BBM to function). BlackBerry has implemented ActiveSync for email, and it no longer uses BIS as the interface between the email server and the device. The device no directly interacts with the email server via ActiveSync. I do not know what security exists...I believe that if you have BES, higher security may well be usable (likely server set, and requiring BES10).
In some cases, it has actually been reported that leaving BIS attached to an account when shifting to a BB10 device actually prevents many functions...requiring the carrier to remove BIS from the account, which allows the BB to then function correctly. I do not know if this is the case with your specific carrier or not.
In general, all that is required is a generic data plan...but you must ask your carrier for anything specific.
    Good luck!

  • Cannot use DDNS service in china!

I am use WRT300N V1(Firmware Version: v1.03.6) wireless router in china, and use China Telecom ADSL Broadband service, I want to use DDNS service but never connet to DynDNS.org, please help me to solve the problem, many thanks.
    Joe

Well what about in the USA?  I just bought a WRT300N v1.1.  I have a dyndns.org account that has been working for a long time.  It worked with my old BEFSX41, but that did not force periodic updates, so my account kept coming up for deletion.  I was using DYNDNS Updater instead, but thought I'd give the new router a try to see if the behavior was the same as the BEFSX41.  When I hit the update button, it comes back as if there's some error on the page, and the status line is still empty.  I have firmware v1.51.2.
    Thanks!

  • Blackberry service in China using local sim card.

I have a Bold 9700 (unlocked) which I would like to use in China. I am hearing that it may be tough if not impossible to get a pre paid sim with voice and data capabilities. Is data just blackberry email and messaging or does it include GPS and Internet? Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hey there!
Greetings from China! I've got an unlocked Torch with me that I am using on China Unicom (pre-paid) for almost 2 weeks here now (Beijing). I actually did not procure the SIM myself for it...the hotel did it for me. They said that it actually is tough to get them now due to very recent new rules requiring all kinds of identification and deposits and such. But, the locals still know how to work around that, so someone from my hotel got it for me. I just had it topped up today as I used up all of my minutes...too bad since I'm leaving on Wednesday, but the cost is pretty much nothing. I only got voice and SMS service...didn't need full data services on that device as I also have my VZW Storm 2 with me with full international roaming, so I have it for that stuff. Just be sure to use WiFi whenever you can...the roaming charges are pretty steep. I was in China and Singapore much of August and my VZW bill was about $1,700. Should be less this time since I had the Torch for voice here. In addition to not worrying about purchase (since the hotel took care of that for me), I also didn't worry about configuring -- they did that as well and a friend who speaks Mandarin did my top up for me today. Yes, I am a bit spoiled by all of the help...but it does help a lot.
As for network, if you want data, do stick with China Unicom -- they have 3G while China Mobile only has 2G (EDGE). I can really tell the difference when my Storm grabs China Mobile instead of Unicom. I finally figured out to set my configuration to seek out only 3G and that keeps it on Unicom all the time now.
Sorry I can't be much more help -- I had help myself and that alleviated the burden on me. If you are staying in a 5-star hotel, seek out their assistance for sure. You can try looking at the airport on arrival...I tried but didn't see anything of use (plus was just so tired from the flight that all I wanted was to get to my hotel and crash). I've seen advertisements for a service (I think it's Panda something or other) that talks about pre-ordering a SIM and having it ready at your hotel, plus with easy top up service. I didn't use them and I'm not sure it would have worked with the new rules, but you could also check them out.
Good luck and enjoy China! Be sure to climb the great wall -- you must be a hero!

  • My ipod touch is using location services of china and does not show the place where i am living in india.

when i use location services through wi-fi my ipod doesnt show my exact location and uses china as default location , so i am encountering problems while yousing apps like watsapp or wechat etc. plz give me a solution

For location the iPod uses the location of nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's database. You do not have to be connected to the network/router to use that router's location. Thus, it appears that the iPod can't see a nearby router that is in Apple's database. or finds one that has it location as China.  Apple continuously updated their database based on info they obtain from iPhones. However, I do not know if that applies to India. No one has been able to find a way to inform Apple of a router or correct is location.

  • Apple Service in China

Hi to all of you here,
I have a very general, but hard to find online answers to, question...
Does anyone here have experience with buying a Mac in China ? And especially, what about the service in case of problems ?
Even if I'm living in one of the major cities in the country (Shenzhen to be precise...) there is no decent Apple Reseller around to my knowledge (would love to read though "Yes there is, at this address ... !")
So that lets me with an online ordering directly from Apple China (or buying in Hong Kong, more on that later...)
I would like to buy an i5 or i7 27" iMac, but as you might all know there are issues (with the screens mostly), and I would hate to be deeply disappointed when unboxing to discover that... well I got one of them ! But let's say, I buy online from Apple China and... bam ! I get a bad iMac...
My question is : anyone had experience dealing with the Apple Store China ? How was it ? Did they acknowledge your problem and agreed on a replacement or repairs in the right way ? Can you, like in most countries, simply send back the machine and get a refund in the first days after your purchase without having to justify that your reason is indeed legit ? If yes, do you have to send it back at your own expense and via which channels ?
Now secondly, as a possible (and much cheaper !) alternative just in case someone has legal or practical insight , since I'm a bus jump from Hong Kong, and that there I can try the machines before buying to check there's no problems, would I officially be allowed to bring one back with me through the customs with no tax (I'm not chinese, foreign passport, just living here for now) ? I know it's perfectly ok for a laptop, but there's no way I'll try to sneak a 27" iMac through the customs !
My worries on "Online" (phone only...) Official Apple Store in China are about hardware problems if any, I've been working on Macs for more than 15 years and I'm really not concerned about assistance concerning any system or installation, or software issues, and by this I mean that if my iMac works fine and doesn't have any "physical" problems for example with the screen (always worried about the dead pixels lottery when buying online...) I would be fine with no service and assistance at all in this domain.
I do realize that's a lot of questions and that they are not really related to the purpose of this forum, but I'm sure you get what I mean by all this... and would love to have some feedback from people with the experience, feedback that I was not able to find anywhere else.
Thanks for reading this long post, hoping to hear from experienced people around here...

Well... did not get any feedback, but I can easily understand that no one on this forum ever had to buy a Mac in China !
Just in case someone could be interested in knowing about this :
Called Apple China, was painful, I got my call "hanged-up" 3 times before finally on the 4th attempt someone answered... Did not seem to have interest in helping me buy or answering my doubts... But he did tell me they're not selling the i7 at all, only i5.
He also said they never heard of any screen issues at all with any iMac (denial at first call scares me if ever I get a defective unit from the start... because ok... they are all made here, and Apple China doesn't know about any problems... mmmhhh... let me question this a little...)... I asked about a possible refund in 7 days... They said probably not, only maybe if they can not fix the machine and only if really a "big quality problem" (sic) was identified... and for this I would need to bring the mac to a service center.
Problem : could you give me the address of the nearest service center so that I know if it's far from my home ?
    - "No I don't know, check the website. You want to buy ?"
    - "Well I'm not sure I'm worried about the warranty..."
    - "Ok thank you, bye bye"
I'm a mac lover, I need a new computer, but I'm living in China for now, and don't feel any confidence in doing so in here...
Mr Apple, I know you don't officially read these forums, but let me tell you, a lot of people here (yeah China has quite a few...) are very aware of how a Mac can be a wonderful machine (thanks to the success of iPods and iPhones), and interested in buying one, they're made here, shipping or replacement costs are next to nothing and your local prices are higher than on the other side of the world so even after any taxes your margins would for sure be consequent. Why totally forsake the biggest market in the world ? What about a truly efficient sale force ? And what about reassuring potential buyers that if they ever get a problem it will be taken care of as best as you can ? I heard many complaints about customers of some Shanghai Official Resellers, some people even opened blogs just about this..!
Well, on the bright side for me I'm lucky, I'm next to Hong Kong, I've contacted an Apple Store I know there, they do have i7 in stock (yes, there they sell them in the official resellers shops, not only online, don't know about the rest of the world but I thought they were only custom made orders not available in shops) and I can try the machine before buying so I hope I'll get to see if there is any problem with the screen (at least check there are no dead pixels and no "yellow tinge", might not be able to detect the potential flickering problem). I don't care paying an import tax if I have to, what I want is peace of mind on my warranty and not having to fight if any problem arises.
Ok, sorry if I bothered anyone reading this looong post... Just wanted to let people know since even I got no answers from anyone on this forums, many read the post so I guess they might like to know.
And no one can tell me I'm not faithful to Apple or complaining about non existing problems... I really want this machine and doing everything I can to get it, don't I ?! Just worried about QC and warranty policy...
Have a nice day, and enjoy the luck of being in a place where Apple cares about you...

Hi I have  got  a new  Z3 phone as a replacement for my old 9220. The same SIM works well for BES and Data /Internet on the 9220 but not on z3.  Checked with the carrier they plan is active and in new Z3 device it displays "e" only. using BB as "just" a normal phone anyway - having heard that BB is banned or
there are no BIS service in China - not sure which.
the problem is, there are a small white triangle on the top status bar.which
indicates roaming...I mean...how on earth could I be roaming if i'm using a
a local provider bought in the very same city i am living in?
and one more major problem is that I can send text messages back home but
    cannot receive a reply.
and I'm sure the people i knew back home sent me a reply because they
emailed me and told me they have sent me a reply.
Is there anything wrong with my BB?
can you help me and give me correct settings - if any.
so that I can use my BB even as a normal phone?
FYI the phone is already unlocked by the original provider when i bought it..
    Yours sincerely,
    Edwin

You're right that the white triangle indicates you're roaming, it's just that China Mobile is roaming. Why, I don't know, you'd have to ask them that.
For the SMS sending, first try a simple reboot: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot.
