Bit of a weird one!

A strange problem just started happening yesterday & continues randomly. Every now & then the sides of my Desktop reduce by 8mm on the L & 4mm on the R. Whereas the desktop should cover the entire screen it is now pure black on the L & R sides. However this problem recovers all by itself every now & then. It keeps happening. Any suggestions?

Maybe your monitor geometry is starting to go? Are you using a CRT? I'd try hooking up a second monitor and seeing if the problem reproduces itself first.

  • Bit of a strange one.... HD Movies "Judder" when streaming to ATV2

    Bit of a strange one.... all my HD Movies since the latest ATV2 update "Judder" when streaming.
    It's very hard to describe but whenever there is a fast Zoom or Pan shot the image flickers for around half a second. It seems to happen every 20 seconds or so, this has only been the case since the latest update of ATV2.
    I purchased Tron Legacy (HD) from the iTunes store and it occurs when playing that movie. It also happens on all my self generated HD contect.
    Strangely it does not occur when streaming to my 1st Gen Apple TV, which makes me think it has nothing to do with my Home Network setup, as they are both connected via Ethernet cables.
    There is only a problem with HD Streaming and ATV2.
    Any assistance would be appriciated
    Hans

    The last update seems to have introduced a feature which lets the Apple TV detect the native frequency of your TV, in the UK this is probably but not always 50 Hz, this is beneficial for Home video and broadcast content in these locations where the frame rate is 25 fps. It isn't ideal for 30 fps or 24 fps content though which most of the iTMS movies and TV shows are.
    Also of relevance is that some TV's make a better job of telecine/detelecine than others due to the quality of their components.
    Although I don't necessarily think that Apple are responsible for the ability of 3rd party TV's, the problem could be easily overcome by allowing the user to manually select the Apple TV output as was the case with the Apple TV 1. This would allow the user to switch to 60 Hz for 30/24 fps content and 50 Hz for 25 fps content.
    Some TV's have motion settings which worsen/improve the situation depending on their settings.

  • Synaptics touchpad on HP Mini 110 Windows 7 32 Bit - not working for one user - working for another

    Hi,
    I recently have an issue with Synaptics touchpad on HP Mini 110 Windows 7 32 Bit - NOT working for one user - working for another.
    Windows 7 updates recently installed ???
    By checking the device properties on the user that works - "Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad 13/10/2011 Version 15.3.29.0"
    When the other user logs on, the touchpad works for a few seconds, then a displays a black square with a red diagonal line through it, then the touchpad won't respond. Trying to use the keypad to navigate to system diagnosics or anything to find further info is useless....

    Hey eagle_no11,
    Thank you for joining the HP Support Community!
    I will do my best in assisting to hopefully get the TouchPad to work on the second user profile.
    What I would like to start off with, is to restore the original Synaptics drivers onto the profile that is not working correctly. I have included the document Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7).
    Once you have installed the original drivers, you will need to complete all updates from both HP, as well as Windows. For these updates, if you open the HP Support Assistant, and select Maintain, you should see an option for updating.
    Please let me know how these steps do work out for you.
    Have a great day!

    Weird one. So I opened Illustrator 3 and my tool bar is now all black behind the icons. How can I change it back?
    For example the arrow tool, etc, behind ths small icon of the arrow tool the background is now black. Makes it hard to see all the little icons, plus wtf? it's weird, lol.
    Can anyone help me reset it?
    I did try setting my workspace back to basic but that did not help.
    Thanks, Lea

  • Here's A Weird One For Y'all

    So, because I'm using Apple TV at home with an old Sony TV, I had to buy an HDMi to DVI-D cable then realized that the TV didn't have a digital audio input. I then purchased an Optical audio in to RCA out converter and installed it. (Haven't got it to work yet. When I click the buttons on the remote control, I hear that through the TV but when I play a movie or iTunes, I hear nothing). Anyway . . .
    Later that day, I'm recording a session in my studio on my iMac using ProTools 9 and I'm laying down a guitar part to a song that's been recorded for almost a month. I'm scratching my head because after tuning the guitar at concert pitch, it's totally out of tune with the track. Not knowing what to do, I tune the guitar to the track, play my part and I'm done with it. Afterwards, I use X-Form to tune an 808 kick drum (not bcz it was out of tune, I just did it for another reason).
    I turn on the vocal tracks and realize that they sound awful. The pitch is lower and they sounbd as if they'd been heavily processed with a bad version of Auto Tune. I start checking my system to figure out what the hecks gone a miss. I look at Elastic Audio, X-Form etc. I check the Preferences, restart my computer and even open up previous auto saved versions of the song. Nothing's wrong. For the life of me I'm stumped so I go the Avid website and try describe my situation and nothing really comes up but out of the corner of my eye I see someone has written about clocking issues and sample rates. Bingo! I'm reminded how changing the sample rate of a sesion (say from 48 kHz to 44.1 kHz) will drastically affect the pitch and tempo of an audio file if it's not first converted to whatever format you wish to change it to.
    Then I remember (but am very doubtful this has anything to do with my problem) I had switched the audio selection in my Apple TV Menu to 16 bit (instead of auto) in order to see if it helped my Apple TV audio problem). All along I'm thinking well, this is stupid. How would switching my Apple TV audio affect ProTools on my iMac? They're not connected!  I still don't know the answer, however when I switched the audio menu back to "Auto" from 16bit, Protools played back my track perfectly in tune. Somehow, switching the Apple TV audio to 16 bit also converted my ProTools session from 48 kHz to 44.1kHz!!! I have no clue how that happened.
    Anyone else ever come across this weird phenomenon?

    Hi Willi,
    Thankyou so much for pointing out the error of my ways....
    You are obviously an expert, but one does have to ask are you the expert in: what is appropriate / required for my business, for this particular job, with this particular client or this particular printer (as specified by the client)? Are you the expert in the options available to me in regional Australia?
    Yet you can decide that my workflow is wrong when you have no idea of all this; or the final output for the file. I also publish eBooks and interactive workbooks for students and guess what, for those I don't use PS. For some jobs one has no choice but to go with the clients choices, they are the ones paying the money after all. I know that this workflow is not the most efficient, however it was the choice available to me.
    I posted the original question as I had never seen the problem of a single page disappearing, thought it was interesting and that others may have had the same / similar problems and would therefore find constructive answers interesting.

  • Weird one of those "allow" pop-up for less than a second, keeps coming up periodically....what is this?!

    I am getting a weird pop up, it happens after i log in and then periodically as i am on my computer. Not at any time in particular, happens as I am surfing the web or using applications like iphoto. Its one of the pop ups that would come up to allow something, but its only up for maybe half a second, i can just make out the yellow caution sign that shows up on the allow pop ups for things. I tried downloading a virus software for mac and checking for viruses but couldnt find any. A bit stumped as to what this could be?
    Any suggestions or thoughts are appreciated.

    Yes it occurs when I am not using a browser, although I am not sure entirely if safari was quit or not however it has occured even when I don't have one open
    I only have the one account, I just put the login on because I won't be using my computer all summer. So other than the guest account there is just my main one, and from what I remember it began happening before I did this
    I have not tried booting in safe mode...although it would be hard to tell because I never know when it is going to pop up

  • Weird one!! ipod is showing as a playlist in itunes!

    Hi,
    I bought 2 X 4G 20gig ipods last Feb. I installed itunes and spent days adding 500+ cd's !! I then hooked up the first pod (mine)and filled it up, then connected the second (LOU's ipod). I remember we had a few problems with the second one (showing as a corrupt disc, in the system tray) and it eventualy had to be re-registered (i think...This is where the following problem may stem from).
    There is a playlist which shouldn't be there titled 'Lou's Ipod'. This playlist was never made by me or Lou (there are 5431 tracks in this playlist!)It sort of appeared after connecting Lou's ipod.
    I once deleted this playlist, and when the ipod was re-connected, it was wiped clean!! I think the ipod updates from this 'playlist' and the main Library!!! But this is the other weird bit..there are tracks/albums in the main library that are not in Lou's playlist!
    It's like there is an itunes within an itunes. When the ipod is connected, i still get the picture and the name of the ipod further up and they still flash red!
    I can't remember if this playlist got added to my ipod (i have since sold mine to buy the 60gig version), but i don't think it did. I have V3.1.1 on the ipod and V 6.0.4 in itunes.
    Hope someone can make some sort of sense out of all that !!

  • Bit of a strange one this. Any help appreciated.

    I have been stuck on a PPC g5 2gb dual tower for the last 8 years. 12 months ago the internal power died and I paid to have it repaired. A couple of weeks this happened again. It's not really economical for me to repair it and I really need to be getting up to speed before I fall further behind the Mac community. With this in mind I took the plunge and bought a new MacBook pro this week. I am excited about the possibility of this machine but my issue is this. I presume it will come with lion or mountain lion installed.
    My G5 tower had two internal drives one with leopard and one tiger. A newish western digital caviar black 1.5 tb disc which was partitioned into a 1tb and a 500 mg drive. Both these were to host the OS 10.5.8 my files iTunes iPhoto mail docs and other bits. The other internal drive was a bootable 10.4.7? Disc running audio apps cubase etc
    I presume the internal discs are still intact and readable although the Mac is dead. How will I migrate the data to the new MacBook pro. Is it advisable to buy an external usb3 enclosure and get the data somehow that way. Then I can use these drives as backups for the new Mac.
    I know most poc programs I had will need to be replaced. However will I be able to get my iPhoto and iTunes library back from the redundant drives and what about my mail?  Is there anything else I need to be aware of and will it be a complete nightmare or would this process be straight forward. I know I am moving three operating systems ahead so I can only imaging I may have some difficulty. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    j Foss wrote:

    Most likely. However, do note that it might in all likely hood boot with Snow Leopard, since the firmware has changed. At least that's the consensus amongst those buying up iMacs, MacPros, and MBPs. Apparently, won't work with the ones shipping with retina displays. That said, it might behoove you to spend $20 USD and get a Snow Leopard install disc. Borrow another machine, install it onto an external HD, update it to 10.6.8 and other OS X apps, and try booting the new MBP with it.
    Is it advisable to buy an external usb3 enclosure and get the data somehow that way.
    Either that or a combined FW800/USB 3.0 enclosure. Then, consider updating the Leopard volume to Snow Leopard. Or getting an additional ext HD with FW800/USB 3.0 ports, cloning the Leopard one, and then upgrading one or the other to SL->10.6.8. Then, hook it up to the new MBP, follow the steps in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide. Once that's finished, try booting with the SL ext HD. If that works, then you'll be able to use all legacy PPC apps except the classic ones.
    If successful, whether or not you wipe Lion/ML from the MBP, clone the SL volume to it, or clone the Lion/ML volume to the ext HD (another partition) so you can play with it, is up to you.
    Bottom line is you can probably do most of your current Leopard work with the MBP running SL. If so, then you can take your time examining whether or not to move forward to the iOSified OSs, Lion and ML. I compute with SL and play with the others, but, since I have no iOS or wireless devices, they don't offer much for computing and minor security improvements.

  • Weird one with my fx 5200 after deleting old drivers and installing from scratch.

    Ok, now I got a weird question, but seems to be a problem. I have a MSI Geforce FX 5200 as seen here and I was having a few problems with my drivers, and I figured it was my video card since it would mostly happen in games with 3D acceleration. So, I used Driver Cleaner and got rid of every nVidia driver on my computer. Rebooted, and installed the latest of the MSI website (45.33) and now, when I look in my settings, I have an option for DOT?!?!?! as seen here
    My question is, did I install the wrong drivers or did DOT become part of the 5200? (it's the one with only monitor out and s video out, no DVI or anything special, heatsinks and not fans)
    Thanks for the info in advance.

    That one is the one I have. And my board isn't supposed to have DOT on it, it's not in the Bios setup.

  • Here's a weird one

    I am running a very simple query against a table
    select * from nom_hierarchy where signf=1;
    This query causes a Ora-03113 error to occur. If I do a
    select * from nom_hierarchy where signf<>1;
    it works!
    the column signf is defined as NUMBER(1,0) not null default(0)
    and there are several of these in the table. I have tried similar queries on those columns and not had a problem.
    have put a call into Oracle for this problem. But just wanted let you all know that Oracle does seem to have some weird bugs within it. I've found many query bugs in Oracle and thank god the RULE hint still exists.

    > the version is 10gR2
    Need the full version number - to the 4th number. 10.1.0.2 is very different than 10.2.0.1 ito patch sets and even possibly some features.
    > This column is not indexed, there are two indexes on the table. If one is
    corrupt, why does it affect just this query in this way?
    That depends on the execution plan. Can you post it when using the CBO (and failing) and when using the RBO?
    > I'm not able to check the alert log, The DBA did that and basically he stated
    that we are to contact Oracle.
    Silly IMO. The first cause of action should be to look at the error code of that internal error and looking it up on Metalink's ORA-600 lookup tool. This often gives an accurate diagnosis of the problem and at times a URL to the bug and patch number applicable to solve it.
    > But implying that the CBO is perfect and Oracle not buggy, Maybe I'm just
    having some bad luck?
    The CBO is more often than not incorrectly understood, abused and then slammed as not working correctly.
    My take is that one has to deal with evidence and facts. And the little you have provided do not point to the CBO as being The Problem. And I've only ever ran into a single dinkum real CBO bug - I have a lot more "worse luck" (?) with internal Oracle errors such as DFS lock handles, PL/SQL states being reset for what seems to be no reason, enqueues on flushing warm buffers, etc.
    Oracle is not bug free by any means. But it is very far from a buggy product. And my experience says that when dealing with new developers to Oracle, 99% of their so-called Oracle bugs are not - instead these are bugs in their code or in their understanding of an Oracle feature.
    Not saying that this is the case with the problem you've reported. Does not at all sound like a "developer-end" induced problem.
    But nor would I attribute it immediately to the CBO either. One need to isolate the error before making any call whether or not even Oracle itself is to blame for the error (it could be a corrupted data block for example).
    I've once had very nasty Oracle I/O errors.. which turned out to have nothing to do with Oracle itself, but incompatibility issues with the storage vendor's I/O load balancing driver software.
    An accurate diagnosis depends on a detailed problem analysis in order to isolate the problem. Any calls made before that is just speculation.

  • 64 bit version of Business One

    I have looked at the supported platform list on this portal and see no mention of when SAP plans to release a 64 bit version of SAP B1.  The current versions will run on a Windows 2008 Server x64 platform but they appear to still be running as a 32 bit application.
    Has anyone heard?
    Thanks

    Thanks Gordon.  I wasn't implying they should replace the 32 bit version only that they should release a 64 bit version like Microsoft does for SQL Server and you can choose which one you want to install.
    Since SAP B1 likes memory, having native access to more than 4 GB would probably help it perform better.
    I think SAP moved to 64 bit only on their other SAP platforms.

  • Separating 16 bits of data into one 12 bit and one 4 bit channel

    I have 16 bits of binary data and i'm trying to split these into one 12 bit and one 4 bit channel. I know that I could use something like:
    Dim Channel1 : Set Channel1 = Block.Channels.Add("Channel1", eI16)
    Channel1.Formatter.Bitmask = 4,095 'xxxx 1111 1111 1111
    but, i'm not sure how to grab those 4 bits out of the 16 bit channel1 and make channel2. It's like i almost need to say something like:
    Dim Channel2 : Set Channel2 = Block.Channels.Add("Channel2", eI16)
    Channel2 = Channel1.Formatter.Bitmask = 61,440 '1111 xxxx xxxx xxxx
    Can anyone help out???? thanks.

    OK...This is still straightforward. Her is what you want to do :
    CurrPos = File.Position ' remember where the block starts
    Set Block = File.GetBinaryBlock()
    ' set up all channels which can be read directly
    Dim Channel1 : Set Channel1 = Block.Channels.Add("Channel1", eU16)
    Dim Channel2 : Set Channel2 = Block.Channels.Add("Channel2", eByte)
    Dim ChannelPH : Set ChannelPH = Block.Channels.Add("Dummy", eU16) ' just a placeholder
    Dim Channel5 : Set Channel5 = Block.Channels.Add("Channel5", eU16)
    Dim Channel6 : Set Channel6 = Block.Channels.Add("Channel6", eByte)
    ' Now we need a block which has one channel only. This channel will be used to extract the bits.
    ' The block needs to start where the third schannel of the above block starts :
    File.Position = CurrPos + 2+1 ' 2 for the U16 channel, 1 for the byte channel
    Set Block = File.GetBinaryBlock()
    ' Set the scan width. This defines the gaps between the values of a channel
    Block.BlockWidth = 2+1+2+2+1 ' U16 + Byte + U16 + U16 + Byte
    Dim Channel3 : Set Channel3 = Block.Channels.Add("Channel3", eU16)
    ' .. apply bitmask and scaling (see my last example)
    ' Do the same for the second channel
    Set Block = File.GetBinaryBlock()
    ' Set the scan width. This defines the gaps between the values of a channel
    Block.BlockWidth = 2+1+2+2+1 ' U16 + Byte + U16 + U16 + Byte
    Dim Channel4 : Set Channel4 = Block.Channels.Add("Channel4", eU16)
    .. apply bitmask and scaling (see my last example)
    Do the same for the second channel
    I hope this works as expected. Let me know if you need more help...

  • TV@nywhere and WDM driver problem-a weird one!

    I just bought a TV@nywhere card, as an upgrade to my old Hauppauge WinTV card... I installed all the driver updates, and it looks and works great using the MSIPVS software. But, whenever I try to use the card with any software that uses the "Microsoft WDM Image Capture" driver, the video is either green or black and white with tiny vertical lines running through it.  ;(
    I made sure all the references to my old card were deleted from the registry, I reinstalled the TV@nywhere drivers... Nothing seemed to help.
    Some Windows programs (like netmeeting) don't even recognize that I have a video device at all, and the ones that do give me the b&w or green screen.
    Here's the weird part:
    Finally, out of desperation, I opened Windows Movie Maker 2, the default program that comes with Windows. It named the Conexant chipset by name, and I was able to use it to record from my TV@nywhere card! Success! After doing this, I tried the programs that provided the B&W/green screens before, and they worked fine!
    I thought I had permanently fixed the problem!
    But now, every time I reboot, those programs that use the "Microsoft WDM Image Capture" driver go back to B&W/green... I have to run Windows Movie Maker 2 every time I reboot, record like a 5 second video, and close it to make these other programs behave normally. I'm out of ideas as to why this is happening. Can anyone help?

    Well, I am using XP, and WMM 2 comes with XP. The recording quality seems to be the same in MSIPVS and WMM 2.
    Something else I noticed... I downloaded some new webcam software, and it lists 2 drivers: the same WDM video driver (with the same problems I described) and also a DIRECTX capture driver, which lists the Conexant chipset by name, and captures fine.
    Could this be a DirectX issue? I am using DirectX 9.0a . I e-mailed MSI 3 days ago with a question about this but received no response. This forum is my only hope in solving this.

    Has anyone ever come across this one before? The last couple of days, when I have sent an SMS (particularly one which is long enough to be sent as two parts), the recipient has not received what I sent but has instead received a text again that I sent them earlier - sometimes earlier that day, sometimes a few days before. And the previous messages had been deleted from my phone. Weird eh?! Any ideas anyone??

    I'm having the same problem, friends getting the same old message over and over again, almost every time I send a new message. the problem started when I got my new mobile phone (nokia 6300). Those friends are with the same or with another mobile company. Maybe I should try it out for a week with my old mobile phone, see if it happens again. What do you think?
