Biting the upgrade bullet... but just want to check first...
Hi all
So I think i need to upgrade to Studio 2.
I just looked at a cut of something using the same format we shoot on (HDV 1080i) but covered to prores.. the results were the nail in the coffin.
However, I just want to check... my G5 and Final Cut Pro 5 are both second hand. I have the original FCP5 discs, but not the G5s system discs. Is there any reason I can't just get the upgrade from Studio 1 package?
Also - if you do the upgrade package, does that essentially delete version 5? as in - can I have both versions on the same computer? I ask because I share some version 5 projects with other computers that don't have 6 yet and don't want to shoot myself in the foot..

I agree that having two versions in the same machine is not a good idea, I wouldn't want that .
Installing a new version of FCS would overwrite the previous one though (Thanks Shane for confirming this in the past).
I know there are some people who use several versions of FCP in the same machine however here is Apple's point of view on the matter:

Remember that you can always export your projects as XML in order to work with them on different machines and FCP version.

Although I back Jerry's suggestion to erase and reinstall OS if you prefer to uninstall just FCP before installing FCS2 here is a useful link for you:

I've reset it over a million times! But Nothing happens. and when i called apple they said my serial number wasnt covered. but i got it from Ebay and idk what the owner has. i just want to replace it. Can I Do That.?
Have you tried connecting it to your computer and restoring the iPod via iTunes?
If iTunes does not see the iPod try placing the iPod in recovery mode and then restoring the iPod. For recovery mode see:

I have aperture 3.2.4 on my laptop and have the serial number, but just bought a new MAC and I can't get the Ver 3.0 link to work. Anyone know how to move it from my laptop to our new mac?

That link is no longer available. Use "Migration Assistant" to copy your Applications from your old mac to the new Mac, then immediately run software update. Aperture Version 3.2 will not run on your new mac with Mavericks, you will have to Upgrade to version 3.4.5 at least - you can download this update from the Support page: Aperture 3.4.5
Then launch Aperture and enter your registration key and try now too update from version 3.4.5 to 3.5 from the AppStore. The AppStore will change your Aperture registration to an AppStore version, so you will able to reinstall by downloading from the AppSTore in future.
If you want transfer only Aperture and no other applications, do it manually: You will have to copy not only the application but folders from the libraries as well:
/Applications/Aperture.app
/Library/Application Support/Aperture/
~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/

I have just updated to ISO 8 and my app icons are not displaying the correct icon but just a generic icon. Anyone had a similar problem?
That happened to me for a short period of time after I updated. It didn't do it with all apps, but it did it with a few here and there. Try a few basic standard troubleshooting steps. Close all apps and reset the iPad.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
You can also try resetting all settings. You will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.
Hopefully it will be something simple, but don't rule out restoring the iOS software, if nothing else works, but start with this easy stuff first. -
I've been working on a newsletter and have the final version. But I wanted to check something in a verssion I did last week. If I choose the day in Time Machine, is there any way I can view that document without "restoring" it to replace the final version?
You can drag and drop a file from TM to the desktop.
Let's say your newsletter is on the desktop. First thing to do is to add something to the file name, say Newsletter_1.
Next open TM as if it is just another external drive by double clicking the icon. (This is not the same as "Enter Time Machine" which you do when you want to restore.) The file hierachy in TM follows the same logic as on your hard drive. Navigate to the date you want, find the file you want, and drag and drop it where you want it to be. Because you changed the name of the most recent version you can both files in the same space.
I do this often.
But remember if you make a back up now you will end up with both versions in TM. -
I want to restore 300 Gigs of data, saved to Time Machine, on my new iMac 27". I want my OS on the 256G SSD, but I want all the other data (which can be separated) on the 2TB internal hard drive. How do I do that?
The Apple article will transfer everything from one volume to another. Doing what you want is not simple, unfortunately.

How to display or generate PDF417 barcode dynamically in PDF form? I am using Acrobat XI Professional and there is a Bar Code Field in the same through which I generated the same. But I want to generate the same dynamically.
What do you mean by dynamically? When yo set up a 2D bar code field you specify which field name/value pairs you want to include, along with other parameters. But be aware that they won't work with Reader unless you Reader-enable the document with LiveCycle Reader Extensions and include the bar code usage right. It will work with Acrobat Standard/Pro.

- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
- You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
- If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
- Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
- There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

can i take apart the imac power cord to put it through a hole in my desk. I'm able to get the ring off, but dont want take the housing off incase it breaks
I hear you. The reason I asked is that on the computer end of the cable, I took the ring off and it looks like there are some clasps around the housing, so I was wondering if these were for the purpose of threading the the cable. I will try and get some pictures. The drill is charging, however!!

tomleoYou probably want to save the user's e-mail address and any other identifying information he/she submitted in the questionaire. For this, you will probably want to use a database, so I would suggest learning JDBC as well.

I recently downloaded the 5.1.1 and all of a sudden the contact icon has disappeared. I can still access my contact list through the phone icon, but I want the contact icon back. How can I reinstall it?
You can't delete it. Look on all your screens and inside all your folders. If you still can't find it go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout. This will restore the home screen to its original configuration but may move other apps around to do so.

y iPad2 is frozen, I am trying to download the upgrade software but fails after a while, how can I solve the issue. I have not upgraded the iPad 2 since I bought it.
Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode:
1. Turn off iPad
2. Connect USB cable to computer; leave the other end alone
3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
5. Release the Home button
6. Open iTune
7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad
