BitLocker Group Policy Objects

Hello,
I have a need to enable the following policy in my domain but it is not available. The domain is running at 2008 R2 functional level.
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\BitLocker Drive Encryption\Operating System Drives\Enable use of BitLocker authentication requiring preboot keyboard input on slates

Hi,
You can download the Administrative Templete for Windows 2012, then place the templete in your Server 2008 r2, you can place in a local place or cebtral store
Local place C:\Windows (replace the original C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions)
or central store
%systemroot% \sysvol\domain\policies\
Downlaod link:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=36991
After using the new templete, you will find the gp setting even you're in a server 2008 r2

  • Win 2K8 R2 - Group Policy Management - Failed to Open Group Policy Object. You may not have appropriate rights. The network path was not found.

New to Windows Server 2008 R2 Administration.
I setup this Windows 2008 R2 Server on a Dell 2950 Poweredge server and have been migrating users off of an old NT style domain running on Samba 3.6 on CentOS.
I have the domain setup (nicholas.sacredheartsaratoga.org), added users, and have moved users / computers over to the new domain and working.
When attempting to setup Group Policy Objects, I continually get the "Failed to Open Group Policy Object" Error.  This is driving me nuts and seems to be a 49 error.. which I have done a ton of research on but none of the suggested fixes seem
    to be working.
I've been working at this for a couple of weeks and really need this fixed to be able to set GPO's correctly.

  • How to apply Software Restriction policy for specific user in local group policy object ?

I am working on implementing user based software restriction policy programmatically for local group policy object.
If i create a policy through Domain Controller,i do have option for software restriction policy in user configuration but in local group policy editor i don't have option for that.
When i look for the changes made by policy applied from Domain Controller in registry, they modifies registry values for specific users on path HKEY_USERS\(SID of User)\Softwares\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Safer\Codeidentifiers
They also have registry.pol stored in SYSvol folder in Domain Controller. When i make the same changes in registry to block any other application, application is getting blocked.
I achieved what i wanted but is it right to modify registry values ?
PS:- I am using Igrouppolicyobject API

I achieved what I wanted but is it right to modify registry values ?
You also can modify a registry programmatically based policy. Check this:

I am looking at an issue with users not getting specific group policies.
After searching a number of client computers I found that the following error
The user '*' preference item in the 'User - 6th Form Students Policy {E03166E7-A848-48B5-AA93-97B848AA9C13}' Group Policy object did not apply because it failed with error code '0x80070003 The system cannot find the path specified.' This error was suppressed.
I can find the folder in the Sysvol folder on all of the domain controllers.
The issue with end users seems to be that the proxy settings for internet explorer is not being applied.

    Hi all
In administering this policy I am a little confused.
We have a policy that distributes proxy settings in the internet explorer maintenance settings section - however when opening this policy up in GPO editor the internet explorer maintenance section is not present.
I plan to apply the settings via User/preferences/control panel settings/ internet settings (or registry settings from article) however I am unable to edit the settings for internet explorer maintenance and these will persist. Ideas????

  • Group Policy Object "The Network Path Was Not Found"

I should also mention even when I go to click on the currently created policies I get the same error as well, but I seem to be able to at least get into their settings if I wanted too.

Here is the my background of my network.Try to retire a Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller (DC) and upgrading to a Windows Server 2012 R2 domain controller. Currently both server are running as Domain Controllers on the same subnet. An issue I found today was when I went to go create a new group policy object I got an error stating "The Network Path was Not Found." This happens on both the 2003 and 2012 server, so it not just related to one machine. I have done some reading on this and it seems that some people who have a similar error have an issue browsing to their SYSVOL folder for the domain. However I have no issue browsing to that.I have also looked through the even viewer and there doesn't seem to be specific errors related to this. It seems to me like it may be some type of DNS issue, but I am looking for some insight into...

  • [Forum FAQ] The Value drop down list is grayed out when you perform search for Group Policy Objects in GPMC

    Symptom
On Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2, when you use the Search for Group Policy Objects feature in GPMC, the “Value” field is not populated when you choose “User Configuration” as the Search Item. (See Figure 1.)
    <Figure 1>
    Cause
The happens because the  Data of the (Default) value of the following Registry Key is not correct.
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GPExtensions\{4D2F9B6F-1E52-4711-A382-6A8B1A003DE6}]
By default the Data is (value not set). (see Figure 2)
    <Figure 2>
    Resolution
The registry keys under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GPExtensions] are the Group Policy Preference Client Side Extensions. The CSE name of the GUID {4D2F9B6F-1E52-4711-A382-6A8B1A003DE6} is
RemoteApp and Desktop Connections. Please follow the steps below to resolve the issue.
    1. Locate the registry key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GPExtensions\{4D2F9B6F-1E52-4711-A382-6A8B1A003DE6}]
    2. Take the ownership of this key: Right click on the registry key and choose Permissions option and click the Advanced button on the dialogue window. Then on the Advanced Security Settings dialogue window, click Change button to take the ownership
of the key for the current logon account and make the current logon account Full Control permission with the registry key. (See Figure 3.)
    <Figure 3>
    3. Change the data of (Default) value from "(value not set)" to
"RemoteApp and Desktop Connection Component". (See Figure 4)
    <Figure 4>
    4. Once the steps above are completed, the Value drop down list will be populated again when you perform Search in GPMC. (See Figure 5)

  • Difference between domain controllers and group policy objects in GPMC

    Hello,
Am in confusion, someone can tel me the difference between
1.Domain controllers>default domain controller policy  and
2.Group policy object>default domain controller policy
In Group policy management console and also i would like know where to define these categories. I normally use second option.
I have attached screenshot for your information.
     regards,
    Dharanesh,

This first/upper item is a link to the GPO, the second/lower item is the actual GPO.
(notice the link, has a shortcut arrow showing)
by default, when you double-click on a link, a message will display which says "you have clicked on a link....." and the messagbox offers a checkbox for "do not display this message again..."
Effectively they are equivalent to a shortcut-to-a-file vs. the actual file.

  • Group policy error: Failed to open group policy object on this computer.

    Hi all,
I received this message when i tried to look at the local group policy setting on one of my machines (Windows XP SP3), which is joined in my domain.
"Failed to open group policy object on this computer. You may not have appropriate rights.
    Details:
    Unspecified error."
note that I am local admin.
It's all started when I was troublshooting WSUS connectivity and i looked at the WinsdowsUpdate.log, the WSUS server was <Null> & WSUS status server <Null>, I tried to force the domain GP by using GPupdate /force, it went fine and asked to
log off, but nothing changed in the WindowsUpdate.log still <Null>. Then i tried to look at the local policy setting.
I searched the internet nothing related to my case.
    Thanks in advance for advising.

I guess reinstall windows is the solution, I also found one log "event id 1096", related to "registry.pol" it was corrupted.

  • Windows Active directory group policy objects

Like many small to medium businesses, we use Firefox in addition to Internet Explorer. The Windows Active Directory group policy objects we have for IE works nicely in all versions of IE. Firefox on the other hand has stopped playing ball. Any policy files I have found on the Internet simply does not fire when used in Windows Group Policy. We have Windows 2008 R2 servers with Windows 7 clients.
Does Mozilla have official group policy objects that will work with Windows Active Directory group policy and is supported in Firefox versions 27 onwards? A lot of the material on the Internet are simply workarounds to achieve something simple.
I believe this may have been asked several times already, but no definitive answer has been supplied to
resolve the issue to my knowledge.
    Thanks and regards

To my knowledge, Firefox historically has not had integration with group policy, and third party tools have been required to bridge the gap. You may have found templates that work in one of those tools.
These threads have links to third party tools, articles, mailing lists, and other resources:

    Hi,
The location of this GPO in Windows Server 2008 should be:

Group Management had crashed on Windows 2008 R2 Server, now I cant get in one of the GPO's

Check whether the user account with which you are trying to open the GPO editor has the permission to open it. Or, if the account is a member of any security group, which is configured for Denied permission on the GPO.

    Hi
I am trying to edit the "Default Domain Controllers Policy" but when I click on Edit, I get the error message as shown below.
We have three domain controllers, 2 of them (hq-dc1 and
    hq-dc2)are 2008 R2 and one (hq-dc3) is 2012 R2.
The permissions are correct as I'm trying with domain admin account and I checked the permissions and domain admins have the necessary permissions.
    The Policy does exist.
    The replications works fine also!
    any ideas any one???

Hi everyone and thanks for all your help.
The only GPO effected is the "Default
Domain Controllers Policy". I can edit any other GPO's fine.
    I have tried editing "Default
Domain Controllers Policy" from all three domain controllers and I get the same error on all of
    them.
I can access SYSVOL via the shared path also and read the contents.
I have looked at the threads provided also but still no luck :(

  • Need help with Adobe Reader 11.0.0.8 and Group Policy Objects

I am trying to deploy Adobe Reader 11.0.0.8 using Adobe Reader.
I am using the AcroRead.msi I found in
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Setup Files\{AC76BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-AB0000000001}
    HOWEVER
Instead of installing 11.0.0.8 it installs 11.0.0.0
I have not had anyone complain about it asking for an update. But I'm sure it's only a matter of time. (I know about the customization which could prevent the updates, but I can't figure out how to get the correct version installed is the issue not the updates).
So if I run the Setup.exe it ends up installing 11.0.0.8 but AcroRead.msi I think only installs 11.0.0.0
Obviously you can't give a GPO an .exe so it's a closed loop. You can't use an .exe to install the proper version. And you can't install the proper version because you can't use an .exe
You can only use the .msi which apparently only does 11.0.0.0
I've been trying this that, have done jumping jacks and back flips trying to fix this (tried different versions, different approaches to this, nothing seems to work)
Need some help. THIS IS WAYYYYYYY WAYYYYYYYYYYY Overcomplicated btw, shouldn't be this complicated for something so mundane.

A couple of approaches and all involve a bit of work.
    Three steps:
Do the install of the 11.0.0 MSI at the command line
Then follow it with the 11.0.07 Updater MSP at the command line
Finally the 11.0.08 Security Patch MSP at the command line.
    AIP
Create the AIP from the three files above then then run the MSI from the command line.

  • Trying to deploy patched Acrobat 7.0 via Group Policy Object

I successfully created a GPO to push Acrobat 7.0. Now I would like to patch the MSI file so that the computers in the OU will get Acrobat 7.0.7, not just 7.0. This is proving to be very difficult, however.
I have the following folders set up on the Windows 2000 SP4 server:
    \\server_name\Acrobat7Standard\Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard\AcroStan.msi
    \\server_name\Acrobat7Standard\7.0.5 Patch\Ac705StVP_efgj.msp
    \\server_name\Acrobat7Standard\7.0.7 Patch\Acro707.msp
I tried running some commands that I found on other webpages but all they do is make a "Windows Installer" box appear containing some various switches and options that you can use. I tested the installation process at bootup and it's still not pushing v7.0.7.
This is a volume license installation using a volume license key; do I need volume license patches to go with it? If so, where could I get them?
Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

I found some instructions in <a href="http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/webseminars/Tuner7-QA.pdf">this PDF file</a> which says:<br /><br /><blockquote>An Administrative Install can be patched directly so that users need only to run a Repair operation to update their application, and the network administrator need not push out a patch update across the entire network. To patch an installed administrative image, apply the patch with the /a switch.<br /><br /><b>msiexec /p <patch package> AcroPro.msp /a <package> AcroPro.msi</b></blockquote><br /><br />I am unsure about the syntax of the command above...can anyone lend a hand?
