Bitmap not jpeg?

Hi Everybody,
I took a photo and emailed it to my partner, two problems:-
1- the photo came across as a Bitmap
2- she got 11 emails! lol
But realy I want to know why it's a bitmap and not jpeg? Is there a way in the settings to change this, as I can't find it.

Emailing from iphoto sends as bitmaps not jpegs

Since upgrading to Leopard all of my iphotos that I email to friends with Windows show up to them as bitmap format, not jpeg as before the upgrade. Have others had this problem since upgrading to Leopard and does anyone know how to correct it? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Do you have your System preferences set to use the extension? If the image file is added to a email without an extension then it may be converted to bitmap by the PC at the other end. Make sure there's a .jpg extension added to the file name.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Photoshop Elements 13 doesn't recognize Samsumg images not jpeg images even

What have I to do, becauce Photoshop Elements 13 doesn't recognize Samsung images? I have Samsung camera so I need Photshop Elements 13 Organizer recognize Samsung images. Canon images it recognaze.

there are two photos, the first SAM4434 is the photo which PSE 13 import
correctly, the second photo SAM4113 is which PSE 13 can't import. There is
the third enclose where is an information that PSE 13 doesn't import the
photo because the photo is on Organizer or PSE 13 doesn't recognize a file.
The information is in Finnish but the information is what I have translated
on this e-mail. PSE 13 doesn't recognize the file because it is not on
Organizer. The both photos has taken by Samsung NX200 camera, There have
never been that kind of problem by Canon camera taken photos

Paint with color bitmap, not alpha brush or canvas texture.

I've been using photoshop for quite some time, so I hate to ask what seems like a very simple question.
My question - is there any way to paint with a bitmap, not just 'define brush' as that seems to only be an alpha ranging from full opacity to transparent with no color information other than the single color you select when you want to paint. The 'texture' option in the brush editor apparently simply means what texture do you want to reveal.
What I'm looking for seems to basic, I used to do it back in Deluxe Paint on my amiga years ago, where I'd just select a chunk of my image, then i could smear it all over the canvas. I can't seem to find any way to do this in photoshop, surprisingly.

As you said, Photoshop brushes are monochrome and cannot carry colour information.
Photoshop does not have this capability.
It is of course possible in other programs.

Migration--Bitmap to Jpeg from Oracle8 to Oracle9i

I'm having few thousand bitmap photos stored in Oracle8 database in a Long Raw column. It's taking lot of space.
I'm planning to migrate to Oracle9i. Please advise how to convert these few thousand photos from bitmap to Jpeg format in Oracle9i database.

How are you going to store the images in 9i?
My hunch is that the only way that you could convert from BMP to JPEG inside the database would be to have the data stored as interMedia image objects. I don't know for sure whether interMedia can do that conversion, but that's the only Oracle technology I can think of that could (well, unless you want to write Java or PL/SQL code that does the conversion).

Converting Multiply Bitmaps to JPEG's?

Hi.
Is there a way to say convert 100 Bitmap images to JPEG using Photoshop? Instead of opening up & saving each image which would take a long time. Photoshop compresses the JPEG to really good qualty over 3rd party apps.

A simple Action can do this and for an entire folder.
Create the Action with one Bit-map image Open, use Image>Mode>RGB if necessary, Save_As JPEG, Close. Once created, go to File>Automate>Batch (syntax might be slightly different depending on version). From the dialog screen your new Action will probably be already there, but check, and if not load that. Set your Source Folder, your Destination Folder and any Naming convention that you might wish to use. Check Bypass Open (again, syntax might differ), so that the images do not need to be Opened. Hit OK, and sit back.
I do similar when Scaling images for Video, from my camera's resolution. This ARTICLE talks a bit more about that, and the Action will be very similar. Now, I list using PSD's, but just substitute JPEG.

Bitmap not opening

I am a new apple user and this is probbaly pretty trivial but here is my problem. I have a CD full of bmp images, I can only open 3 of them but when i try opening the others the previewer tells me they are corrupt! I can open them in my old pc labtop so they are not really corrupt. Any ideas about what i can do? I dont want to change them into jpeg because there are graphs and stuff on them and i need it to be high quality. The GraphiConverter program that someone suggested in another link doesnt seem to be free anymore.

I have the CS3 Web Premium suite, I'm on Vista. Here's what my Preferences settings are for importing Photoshop files into Fireworks:
When I try to open K Barnes' image in Fireworks, it comes in as a flattened bitmap. I don't get a dialog of any kind, whether I drag the icon onto Fireworks or go through the File > Open menu.
I can open K Barnes' image in my CS3 Photoshop (Extended) and I see all the layers. (Some are on, some are off.) When I first open it, though, I get this warning:
I updated and saved a copy of the file. If I open the copy of the file in Fireworks, I again get a flattened bitmap and no dialog on import.

How can I import only jpeg and not jpeg plus RAW into Photos on iPad?

I capture both on my camera. I do post-shoot processing on computer (Lightroom/Photoshop) but want to see larger previews on iPad (the "new" version with retina display) than my camera LCD allows. I am using the Apple hadware adaptor to load from an SD card. The RAW files are taking up way too much memory on the iPad--it seems Photos imports both files at once. I can't figure our how to tell it to import only the smaller JPEG files.
If there is a better App than Photos for this, please advise. Note I will not be doing any serious editing on the iPad.

It doesn't matter what App you use it will copy all the photos from the SD card.
But I have a workaround;
All you do is import your JPEG+RAW images using the camera connection kit.
Go to Albums in the Photo App, choose Change, Choose New Album, give name, choose Last import, choose Select all photos, choose Finish.
Now go back into the photos app and delete all the photos from your "Last import" Album. It will say that it is going to delete them everywhere but really it doesnt because it leaves the JPEG in the new album. The result is that you will only have your JPEGs that you imported in your camera roll and the RAW images get deleted.
First try out before you delete photos from SD card!

Jpeg attachments appearing as a .dat file and not .jpeg files

Please can someone tell me how I can change jpeg attachments that are coming through on emails on my new iPhone 5 as a .dat file and not as a .jpeg file.
These .dat files cannot be opened - I assume that this will happen with PDF files as well.

I am surprised at this point in time no one has chimed in, seeing how many people have tried this in the pasta. I actually solved the whole clusters issue, but now I have discovered another problem that is making me throw in the towell on this one as I just can't explain it.
I am finding for some silly reason while the code will work in one VI it won't seem to work in another. See my photos below. The one where the code works, I have created the whole thing as a subroutine inside of a greater VI which I can not publish due to proprietary code. Next I tried pulling out the functioning part of the code and putting that in a stand alone file. See the photo where the code doesn't work. I have also ran the same code that doesn't work with both 1 and 2 variables. Each time Matlab can't open it. I am using the same to MAT subvi in each of these. For some reason though when I run the code in the working picture it runs, and I get a nice little mat file that I can open in Matlab. When I run the same exact code as a standalone I get the matlab error code every time.
I have tried reviewing every possible variable I can think of and worked with them. In all cases the two new VI's I made the code doesn't want to give me a valid mat file. However in the greater program it does! I am really stumped at this point. So unless I can find a better convert to matlab file code I don't think this will work.

AS3 drag and drop masked bitmaps - not working

I have a drag and drop project using bitmaps that were masked using fireworks. All bitmaps are PNG (fireworks files) and one object is GIF. All objects were converted into movie clips.
PROBLEM
All movie clips from PNG's can be dragged, but they can't be dropped. However, the GIF movie clip responds to both drag and drop.
ActionScript worked when all movie clips had GIF's.
Is this problem because the objects were masked or for any other reason?
Note: Objects were masked because their border is very fussy and cropping them doesn't help with the quality of their image.

Type Creates as bitmap not vector

Working in CS5.5 (Photoshop 5.1), new text is created as crude bitmap instead of vector. Illustrator creates type in vector. Fireworks (never really use) created higher resolution raster type.
Made a few of the changes in the self help suggestions, but it's not crashing. Is this a reinstall issue. I upgraded from CS4

Your using either the Horizontal or Vertical Type Tool (one of the first two on the list) and not one of the Type Mask Tools (the bottom two on the list)?
You have Anti-alias set to something other than None?

Why java only can display GIF file not jpeg and BMP ??

Did anyone know why java only can display GIF file not in jpeg and BMP ?? This is because the quality of GIS is not as good as Jpeg and BMP

The only thing ive noticed is that java cant support transparent jpegs, only transparent gifs

Lightroom 2 losing metadata for TIFFs but not jpegs

I use LR2 and have noticed an apparent glitch on exporting TIFFs. My copyright field ("Clients may use the pictures for...") is cut off halfway (after 128 characters to be exact) when I open the TIFF in PS4 and look at the IPTC data. But simply changing the export to jpeg - the copyright field is intact. The TIFF metadata is fine when viewing in Lightroom.
I can't find any help on this, I hope someone can advise..?

I agree that the handling of the metadata may at times appear to be inconsistant between LR and PS, and there may or may not be a bug involved. I rarely need anything beyond LR, so an old copy of Elements 8 is the only PS related package I have. Even so, I can confirm that PSE8 will truncate various IPTC datafields down to their specified length during a TIFF round trip to PSE8 and back to LR. I haven't dug into why this is happening, since LR does generate the xmp fields that do capture the longer strings of data (even for the older IPTC fields). Further, this may be different (fixed) with the latest copy of PSE.
All that said, you may want to re-consider your useage of the Copyright field. I believe it is intended primarily for the name of yourself or your organization, and perhaps a date or copyright character. For longer instructions on what people can and can not do with your image, then you should use the "Rights Usage Terms" field. This can all be found at www.iptc.org, and downloading the latest standard. If you decide to change your workflow, and need to update your LR catalog by bulk moving data from one IPTC field to another, then consider using a nifty transfer plug-in by John Beardsworth, here.
