ITunes on 64 bit doesn't start, recognised as 32 bit program
Hi,
I use windwows 7 Professional 64 bit,
when I run itunes installer everything goes fine (except that it installs in x86 folder!) but when I try to run itunes it just doesn't start, nothing shows up and in task manager i see "itunes.exe*32" which means it is recognised as a 32bit program!!!
how can I solve this?
I also tried with itunes 8 and 9 but nothing workedno error messages at all. ... quick time works
many thanks ... that's got one possibility with an error-message-free iTunes launch failure ruled out already.
Checking on another possibility that has been common in recent times, now.
Try (by way of experiment) disabling the BonJour Service.
In your Start Menu, right-click Computer and select "Manage".
Expand "Services & Applications".
Open "Services". (Maximise the window to better see what's going on.)
Right-click the BonJour Service and select "Properties". In the "General" tab, set Start-up type to "Disabled".
Restart the PC, and try launching iTunes again. Does it launch this time?
If iTunes launches with the BonJour Service disabled, by any chance do you have a recent version of IOBit's Advanced SystemCare utility currently installed on the PC? If so, try uninstalling and reinstalling Advanced SystemCare. Can you launch iTunes without having to disable the BonJour Service now? -
Windows 7 64-bit 8GB RAM doesn't start after installing X-Fi drivers
I have Windows 7 64 bit, 8GB RAM for a few months. After inserting an X-Fi Platinum Fatalty Champion Series (S/N MASB046A83R0772D; OP BN 06SB046A00005 Rev A) and installing Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi series driver 2.8.003 dated 26 Jun 09. The sounds plays OK, but after rebooting Windows doesn't start, with a CorruptRegistry error. I have installed Windows from scratch, but it only works until I install the X-Fi driver and reboot. Please help. I have searched the internet and found no solution to my problem besides a Wikipedia article that X-Fi has problem with 64-bit Vista with 4GB RAM or more.
Hi, I am also running windows 7 ultimate 64 with the same sound card and am using the july 5 driver. It works but i cant use the creative control panel as i get a black screen on start-up and when i uninstall the contol panel windows functions normally. I may have to go with the onboard sound to get all 4 speakers to work. I have 6 Gb of ram on a gigabyte X58 Mobo.

Jdeveloper doesn't start after Weblogic upgrade.
I had Jdeveloper Studio 11.1.1.3 and Weblogic 10.3.3 and everything was working fine. I upgraded WLS to 10.3.4. Now, Jdeveloper doesn't start. jdeveloper.exe doesn't give any error. But nothing happens. We can see the process in Windows Task Manager. Running D:\WLS\Middleware\jdeveloper\jdev\bin\jdev.exe gives following error:

Thanks,
VikasVikas,
When using JDeveloper, the integrated WLS and ADF version are tied to the JDeveloper version - you cannot upgrade individual bits and bobs like that. There is no problem, by the way, having multiple versions of JDeveloper installed at the same time. I currently have 11.1.1.3 and 11.1.1.4 installed (different directories, of course) with no issues. In fact, I used to have many, many more releases installed, but I decided to clean up ;)

Transition to systemd: polkit doesn't start
Since it's more and more obvious, that systemd is the way to go, I tried to do the transition. I've read the wiki page, prepared my system, added the init parameter to my kernel boot line. First try was surprisingly smooth, my XFCE desktop appears, nearly everything was fine.
Nearly. What wasn't fine was polkit. It didn't start, and because of this, some other things like udisks and upower doesn't start either. I tried to debug the problem:
# systemctl start polkit
Job for polkit.service failed. See 'systemctl status polkit.service' and 'journalctl -n' for details.
systemctl status polkit.service
polkit.service - Authorization Manager
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/polkit.service; static)
Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Thu, 2012-11-01 10:25:55 CET; 35s ago

Nov 01 10:25:55 itchy systemd[1]: Failed to start Authorization Manager.
Nov 01 10:25:55 itchy systemd[1]: Unit polkit.service entered failed state
That's all. I don't know where to get more information about the failure, and with this level of detailed information, I can't do anything. I tried to find solutions in the wiki and here in the forum, but I didn't find any similar problem description.
Since I'm not familiar with systemd, can someone give me some hints to track down the problem? I'm a little bit lost here … Nice first impression from systemd, I have to say …Hi, it looks like I'm having the same problem. Polkit fails to start, and attempting to reinstall polkit gives:
groupadd: GID '102' already exists
useradd: group 'polkitd' does not exist
error: command failed to execute correctly
I had a look in /etc/group and this includes the line:
tex:x:102:
May I ask how exactly you solved the conflict? Is it safe to just remove this group? I didn't create this group, it must have been created by some package at some point in the past, I guess. I have 3 other computers which I just updated as well, and the problem did not occur there (because no such group exists on those computers).
Thanks for the information at any rate. There seem to be a lot of different symptoms that can also be caused by other problems, so I had a hard time identifying the issue. They include XFce taking a very long time to start, removable drives not showing up on the desktop / in Thunar until I log out and back in again, and then still failing to mount the drives with the error message "Not authorized to perform operation (polkit authority not available and caller is not uid 0)". That last one was the clue that lead me here
EDIT: I just found this and tried it: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=121824
Looks like the tex group owns a couple of files on my system though (unsurprisingly they are all TeX-related): everything in /usr/local/share/texmf. They were all last modified on october 3rd, 2008 and november 2nd 2008. So I guess a package installation back then created the group or something.
I don't think these files are still in use (there is also a /usr/share/texmf with more recent files), and pacman -Qo says they aren't owned by any package. So I guess I'll just remove them and get rid of the group as well. Interestingly, the wiki does make mention of the files and the 'tex' group: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/TeX_Live
A skeleton of a local texmf tree is at /usr/local/share/texmf: this directory is writable for members of the group tex.
Perhaps this information is very dated?

Xorg doesn't start on Macbook Pro 4,1
I've just installed Arch on my Macbook Pro 4,1 (Early 2008).
The machine has this graphics card:
VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G84M [GeForce 8600 GT] (rev a1)
I've installed "nvidia" package driver, launched "nvidia-xconfig" but when I try to launch:
X -config /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Xorg gives me some errors and doesn't starts X.

Ideas?
-- mod edit: read the Forum Etiquette and only post thumbnails http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/For … s_and_Code [jwr] --Yeah it is quite a mess... but thats what you get when you try to use hardware that picks and chooses the bits of the UEFI standard it wants to include.
So like most UEFI systems, Mac(book)s are able to boot their own system with it's EFI setup. It *can* also be used to boot other systems, but setting it up is unique to Macs. So for the purpose of "bootcamp", Apple introduced a bios compatibility mode. When it was introduced, there was no real windows UEFI prevalence (existence?) at that point. So that is how they made this possible.
But the compatibility mode is not turned on by default. OSX uses GPT (according to the standard and everything in this case), but when it makes a "bootcamp" partition it adds to the GPT a MBR partition table (ms-dos) with partitions. According to the GPT spec, there is the actual GPT partition table, but there is also the inclusion of a MBR with a single partition spanning the whole disk. This is to protect the disk from being overwritten by non-GPT aware tools (like fdisk was until recently). So a hybrid MBR simply adds partitions to the ms-dos partition table that (hoepfully) line up with at lease the first few partitions of the GPT. When this is present, the machine will enable the bios compatibility mode.
Booting the Mac with EFI will have no bearing on the Arch Linux installation that is installed in bios compatibility mode. It will use its own bootloader and everything. So there should be no issue. It is probably good to use something like rEFInd in order to give yourself a nice interface with which to select between the two though. The other boot loaders and/or boot managers don't have the ability to recognize both EFI and bios bootloaders. -
My MacBook Pro 15,4" doesn't start at all!
Hi everyone!
Today morning, normal day, after having my MacBook Pro charging all night (as always), I took it (without any cables) in the kitchen, in order to, very surprising, turn it on!
But nothing happens!! Checking battery status: ok (new), removing it and trying without, still nothing. I tried all reset techniques, as well as Ctrl + Cmd + Start button. But still nothing.
What is happening?
When I press the button, I hear the DVD player making his little "clac-clac", the fan is starting, and the light as well, but as soon as I take my finger off the start button, it stops again! If I keep my finger longer on the button, it stops as well after a while (normal forced stop), but the "gong" never sound.
Can anyone help me with this? Where does it come from? I'm a computer technician, and fixed a lot of laptops, but when it comes to Apple, I panic, and I don't know what to do anymore! I'm always a bit scared to open it myself...
Maybe I should add that it's making some noise on the right fan since 2 months (as if a plastic piece was blocked inside), some kind of "clac, clac, clac", and it was getting really warm sometimes. The DVD-player is also a bit "curved", and it's problematic to extract the discs sometimes.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Cheers,
Ron.Hi everyone!
Thanks for the answers.
@Advanced User: I haven't tried that yet, but I will tonight. And I found a Store in my town, in case I cant solve it myself.
@eww: I always buy original parts, even more by Apple. Of yourse I tried without the battery. All the basic tests were done. I also opened the machine and test electrically if anything was interupted. But I couldn't find anything. I must say my son (2 years old) found it very funny last week-end to play piano (pretty strongly) on the keyboard of the MB... But I don't think he broke something, otherwise I'd be really disappointed in a 2000€ notebook...
The exact model of the MacBook is MB133D/A, and I cant access any System Profiler, because the MacBook.... doesn't start! The battery was still holding 3 hours.

Zen stone, vista and "device cannot start (Code 10) message&qu
Today i got a Zen Stone gb mp3 for use with a local library's program, Overdri've Media which allows users to download e-books to their computer and then transfer the files to?a MP3-the Zen. The first time I used it it worked fine, no problem. Then I tried another download transfer later . When I attempted to load the Zen by plugging it into my USB port (I tried 3 different ports), the computer would not find?the device. This happened even though a screen appeared showing that a portable dri've had connected and the files could be played on WMP or other players.
In Device Mgr., the Zen dri've has a yellow triangular sign showing an ! in it. Further exploration in Device Mgr. gives this message:
? Device Cannot Start (Code 0)
? Could not load Driver software.
? Windows was able to sucessfully install device driver software, however the dirver software encountered a problem when it tried? to run. Problem code 0.
?The drivers are up to date as is the firmware. I have run through the troubleshooting pages and the forum. I am using Vista 32-bit with 2 g memory. The Windows Media Player is v , which is required by the book/ library software, Overdri've Media.
Incidentally, the Zen works fine on my wife's XP laptop. Any help is greatly appreciated. ThanksGRe: Zen 8G This device cannot start code 0 and firmware update problem?Hello Tbg99,
Welcome to Creative forums!
Try booting the player in the recovery mode.
. While the ZEN is off, press and hold down the play/pause button.
2. While holding down the play/push button, push the reset button slowly using a paper clip/pin. You should feel the "click" sound when press it.
3. Slide the On/Off switch towards the power button and hold it down until the recovery boot screen appears.
Choose Clean Up then Reboot. If problem still persists, you may need to format the ZEN but take note that formatting will delete the contents of the device. To format the ZEN, boot the ZEN in the recovery mode again and choose Format this time. -

Now I recover one more time and try to restart database without log recovery.
Can I do it via database manager (put "Online")? Or via your command "dbmcli -d <dbsid> -u control,<pw> util_execute clear log"? And how I can perform recover of logs without error?
Best regards, Elena -
IMovie 9.0.9 doesn't start with yosemite
Good morning, I've found in Application folder that there's the old iMovie 9.0.9, but when I try to launch it, it doesn't start ....
But, If I select the package content of the App (mouse right click) and double click over "iMovie EXE", only in this cas, I can use iMovie 9.0.9 (it starts) .....
In the same time runs also "Terminal" with this text message ......
Can I do something to unable the icon of iMovie 9.0.9 or under Yosemite is it impossible ?
ps. I prefer iMovie 9.0.9 because I can still use chapter marker that I make with iMovie 9.0.9 with iDVD ......
This is the message :

Both are referencing cooltype.dll. I ran Font Doctor on all system and non-system fonts and found no errors. Booted without Extensis Suitcase loading. Nothing works. All 32 bit programs work fine. Any clues would be appreciated. It does not necessarily mean a "corrupt" font, but can be a font that PrPro, and PS, cannot handle.
Though I have read that changes have been made, Open Office's DejaVu font would crash PrPro's Titler - every time. There are quite a few others. Font Dr, and similar utilities, will not see the font(s) as corrupt, but they are so poorly designed, that PrPro and PS cannot deal with them.
Though it can be a long, drawn out process, one can often zero in on the problem font(s), with a little work. This is accomplished by first defining the "System Fonts," and not touching them. Then, uninstall half of the remaining fonts, and testing PrPro and PS. If they launch fine, you know that somewhere in that list of fonts, the problem exists. If there is still a failure to launch, chances are good that the problem font(s) reside in that half, that are still installed. Note: because the problem still exists, does not guarantee that there are NOT problem fonts in that uninstalled group, so keep that in mind.
Repeat the proces, by uninstalling half of the remaining fonts and testing.
If necessary, repeat by removing half of the now remaining fonts and testing.
When you get to a point, where you are no longer getting problems, reinstall fonts, in small groups, testing in between. The smaller the groups, the easier it will be to pinpoint the problem font(s).
Keep notes on which fonts you are uninstalling and reinstalling, until you narrow it down to the problem font(s).
I would start by uninstalling any "free fonts," and then commercial, 3rd party fonts. A lot of free fonts are just poorly designed, and can cause issues, though they might work fine in some other programs.
I use a font manager, so that I only have ~ 350 fonts installed at one time, and then dynamically install fonts, as needed for Projects. That keeps my machine clean, and if, upon installation, I get a crash/hang, I know that at least one font in that Set is causing it. This helps, as my workstation has ~ 19,000 fonts on it, and some are free fonts, and many are from 3rd parties. Some are also very, very old.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS - one common cause for hangs on loading PrPro can be from VST's, used in Audio-editing. If you also have a lot of VST's, you could have two issues with two separate programs, i..e. PS hanging on fonts, and PrPro hanging on VST's. The results would be the same, but the causes could be different. That leads to even more work. For PrPro, also see this ARTICLE. If you get PS launching, but PrPro is still not functioning, drop by the PrPro Forum, and someone can help you there. -
VMWare doesn't start after kernel update
Hello,
I've just updated my kernel to 3.10.0-997-generic. After that VMWare Player doesn't start anymore.
I've tried to run patches and different solutions I found in google, but it didn't worked yet.
This is the log of my last attempt.
Thanks in advance

Edited by: astramare on Dec 15, 2009 8:43 AMHi,
1. Stop the DBConsole. (set ORACLE_SID first & ORACLE_HOME)
cd %ORACLE_HOME%\bin
emctl stop dbconsole
2. Update the <ORACLE_HOME>/<hostname_sid>/sysman/config/emd.properties file.
Change line from:
tracelevel.main=WARN
To
tracelevel.main=DEBUG
Decomment this line, so that the line becomes :
EMAGENT_PERL_TRACE_LEVEL=DEBUG
3. Update the <ORACLE__HOME>/<hostname_sid>/sysman/config/emomslogging.properties
Change line from:
log4j.rootCategory=WARN, emlogAppender, emtrcAppender
To
log4j.rootCategory=DEBUG, emlogAppender, emtrcAppender
4. Remove/backup all log files from ORACLE_HOME/<hostname_sid>/sysman/log
5. Start the dbconsole and upload the output of each command
- start the dbconsole: "emctl start dbconsole"
- issue "emctl clearstate"
- status the dbconsole: "emctl status dbconsole"
- check the status of the agent until it comes up: "emctl status agent"
- force an upload: emctl upload
6. Check If you are able to view the dbconsole Page & login
check below logs may be you can see the close error messages to solve the issue.
<ORACLE_HOME>/<hostname_sid>/sysman/log directory
<ORACLE_HOME>/<hostname_sid>/sysman/config/emoms.properties
Otherwise re-create the DBconsole using the metalink doc 278100.1 : How To Drop, Create And Recreate DB Control In A 10g Database. (Please check the steps from Recreate/ReConfig DB Control, if you want to re-create)
Thanks.
