Bitttorent port opening problem

Hi, I'm new to bittorrenting, so sorry if this is an obvious question. A friend gave me information for how to open the port on my iMac so I could start downloading, but every time I try it, I get no connection to the internet. All I get to it step 2, setting the IP address to be static, and that's when there's no longer a connection. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Here's the info he gave me to follow:
There are 3 things to do. Describing and reading it takes longer
than actually doing it.
(1) Picture 1
In BitTorrents preference, check the port that it expects to be
open. You can change it but I didn't. It defaults at 6881.
(2) Picture 2
Set your computers local IP address to NOT change.
In the computers Network Preferences se the TCP/IP tab to:
(Check and write down what's in all the field before changing
anything.)
-Configure IPv4 to 'manual'
-Choose something like 10.0.0.99 (that will now be your computers
local address)
-You usually also set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0
-You may have some numbers in the other fields for your cable
connection
(3) Picture 3
Open up Airport Utility...go to the 'Port mapping' tab. Click the
'Add' button.
1-Public Port (The port that the signal comes in that you want
to direct).....set to 6881
2-Private Address (The computer that the signal should be sent
to)......set to 10.00.99 (that's now your computer)
3- Private Port (The port it should now got on that
computer)...set to the same 6881
Click DONE or something and reset he Extreme
Your done. Now try the program again.

Can't see the pictures.
You basically,
a) have to tell your router - AEBS - to give your computer the same ip address each time.
You do this by going into Airport Utility/Internet/DHCP/DHCP Reservations/+
Enter a description, then filter by mac address of your computers wireless card - (in system info in utilitities of your computer) or by client id. Then select the ip address you want reserved.
Then go to the NAT tab - under Airport Utility/Internet and select configure port mapping.
Click +
Then enter the udp and tcp ports you wan forwarded. Enter the same numbers for public and private. So if the port was 1221 - enter that in 4 boxes, public and private, udp and tcp.
In the middle under private ip address - enter the ip address you selected for your computer
That's it for airport. Your bittorrent should have the same ports set in preferences.
Restart and hope for the best.

Ports won't be blocked by default... Do you have a firewall running already? Are you behind a router which is doing NAT? Any error messages?

Problem with COM port opening

I made an application using COM port to dialog with a microcontroleur and i have some troubles with the opening of the port. i developed it under window XP pro and labview 6.1 and i have no problem when i launch my application on an XP PC having labview installed or on a window 98 PC without labview (just the runtime engine). But when i launch it on an XP pc with only the runtime engine, it seems to launch correctly but in fact, there is a problem with the COM port opening. The menu allowing to chose the port number is inactive and has no effect, like if the software wouldn't recognize the material port on the PC. And consequently, nothing happens when the dialog should start.

Is the VISA run-time engine installed? I don't understand why it would work on the win98 machine unless you have an older installation of it there.

I've got a little puzzle... Here's the setup:
MacBook, Mac OS 10.4.6, internal iSight, i.8 Ghz Intel Core Duo, 1.25 GB RAM, Using my own 1.5 MBPS wireless network router with Airport Express. Internal Mic on, Check. Speakers on full blast, Check. Quictime streaming, sound prefs, iChat prefs, check.
iMac G5, Mac OS 10.4.6, external iSight, 1.8 Ghz G5, 1.25 GB RAM, Using Neighbor's 1.5 MBPS wireless network (with full permission, of course.) Internal Mic on, Check. Harmon/Kardon Soundsticks on full---well maybe half blast... Check. Quictime streaming, sound prefs, iChat prefs, check.
Opened all ports on my own Actiontec router described from Apples KB in many different configurations. From opening as many ports as possible in different ways using UDP and TCP and both going with AND against Apple's suggestion.
I was able to get through the "Failed to respond" issue (Stupid routers) and I was able to initiate a 4 way conversation (Finally!) Between five different parties, swapping between them, of course. Everyone was using the same iChat, best configuration on their ends. (New Macbooks and G5's, all using iChat 3.1.4 and all settings on as best to their knowledge.)
Myself: I initiated the conference. I could see all three parties.
Party 1: I can see and hear them, they can see and hear me. They are on the same network as I am.
Party 2: I can see them, but I can't hear them. They can't see the conversation, but they can hear the conversation.
Party 3: iMac G5 on neighbor's network, I can see it, and can hear it. It can see the conversation, but can't hear the conversation
Party 4: (switched with Party 2) I can see them, but I can't hear them. They can hear and see the conversation. Both try initiating conversation, 1 on 1 too, same results.
Party 5: 1 on 1 conversation. I can see, and hear them, they can see and hear me. Both try initiating conversation. Same results.
It's mostly an audio problem of me being unable to hear most other parties, even though i have my MacBook speakers up as far as it will go. Why will some parties be able to allow their audio to pass through to me, while others would not? It seems it's coming from my end.
What do I do, how do i fix this, are there any suggestions? Am I doing something wrong that I shouldn't be doing?
This is all my router's fault.

If this is a one computer LAN then Port Forwarding can be used.
This needs just these ports open:
AIM TCP 5190
AIM UDP 5060, 5190, 5678, 16384-16403
Jabber TCP 5220, 5222, 5223
Bonjour TCP 5298
Bonjour UDP 5297, 5298, 5353
This works even ikf you don't specify the "scoop and point" method the Apple Doc lists for more commercial devices.
This will not work for LANs with more than one Mac and as AIM on a PC also uses port 5190 for both logging on and file sending you need to use a method that allows mulitple computers such as Port Triggering or UPnP.
Port Triggering for the AIM side of iChat needs to look like this.
Trigger port 5190 on TCP to Trigger 5190 on Both UDP and TCP
Trigger port 5678 On UDP to trigger 5060, 5678, 16384-16403 on UDP
On some devices you can not specify the trigger in the list of ports as in the second line.
You may have to split into two lines.
Trigger 5678 on UDP to trigger 5060 on UDP
Trigger 5060 on UDP to trigger 16384-16403 on UDP
The Bonjour ports and the Jabber ports ned to be entered as single port entries on the relevant TCP (Jabber and Bonjour's 5298) and UDP protocols.
The AIM application for a PC will need
Trigger Port 5190 on TCP to Trigger ports 1024-5000 on TCP/UDP

Believe me when I tell you, If you are the person who fixes this problem, I will GLADLY Paypal you $100.
This is so unbelievable. Short story is, after 12 hours of paid support through Support RIX, 6 hours with TWC support, and 4 different modems there isn't a single person in these groups that can get ports forwarded on my Linksys E4200 router.
I am running a fresh copy of windows 7 with all updates and no anti virus installed. I purchased a Motorola ARRIS SURFboard modem 200 series DOCSIS 3.0 so I have no double router issues. Before I was using the TWC moden/routers in bridge mode.
I have no problem setting a static IP or configuring port forwarding. It doesn't matter if I have windows firewall on or off. I can't get an outside port checking website that can verify an open port.
I am trying to play Battlefield 4 using the port forwarding request they provide.
If I run a local port check program on my computer it will confirm the ports open. Ok, Fair enough. They tell me the outside port checking utilities will say the port is closed unless I am running the program that uses these open ports.
SO I run the game and check and it always says port closed. One of the ports I want to open is 80. It has to be open to get internet anyway but it still shows closed using the online port checking websites.
I connected the computer to the modem. No router. I keep getting ports closed or filtered when I check through 6 different port checking sites. Leads me to think their is some kind of block in the ethernet card software.
Its a Realtek PCIe GBE Family controller with a driver date of 8/26/2014. Latest one I could find.

I used a port tester downloaded from PCWinTech.com v3.0.0. It says the ports are open. When I close port 80 it says port 80 is closed. My problem is nothing outside my network can confirm an open port. It always states port closed.
The game I am playing is Battlefield-4. I have played all of the campigns without any problem but once online it crashes. The BF-4 community says I need to open 5 single ports and 5 port ranges. This is what I am trying to do.
We have tried an ARRIS router modem, a Ubee router modem (both in bridge mode) and are now using a motorola modem. All with the same problem. We checked the ports during game play and they all say closed.

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What region are you located?
What is your current model ISP modem your using now?
What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6 is recommended.
Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask.

Router and Wired Configurations
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting and maintain consistency for applications that need to connect as well as mapped drives.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
If http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only.
If you set up port forwarding, disable uPnP and test.
When you check for port status, you have to be actively using the port before you scan check as you may get a false negative if your not using the port. If your using the port then check the status, you should get an accurate result.
I would try using Port Range Triggering instead of PF and set up the port as follows for your PC that your gaming with:
0 thru 65535. A bit less hassle to set up then all those different port rules.
PC 3rd Party Security Software Configurations
Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired LAN PC while testing.
Disable any downloading client software managers, i.e. Torrents or similar.

Can't run form from Form Builder 10g - Port configuration problem?

I have installed the Database (10.2.0.1.0) and the Developer Suite (10.1.2.0.2) on two Linux machines (Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 4 Basic).
If I enter the frmservlet-URL manually everything seems to be fine.
In one case I enter http://127.0.0.1:8890/forms/frmservlet, in the other http://127.0.0.1:8889/forms/frmservlet; in BOTH cases I get eventually a dark square and the status bar says "Applet oracle.forms.engine.Main started".
HOWEVER, if I create a simple form with Form Builder and click on the Button with the green traffic light ("Run Form"), the form runs only on the machine where frmservlet listens on port 8890.
On the other machine (frmservlet configured to listen on port 8889) Firefox pops up, the URL "http://127.0.0.1:32979/6dOrpwghCqnp8PhMT7KVT533m3IaArqFbPqPBOztZXWYSsNy" gets called, and nothing else happens. The screen displays the string "ORACLE FORMS." and the status bar says "Waiting for 127.0.0.1...", and it stays like this forever.
I assume this is a port configuration problem, but I don't have a clue where to start.
Any suggestions how I should proceed are greatly appreciated.

I doublechecked my configuration.
In the dialog Edit --> Preferences --> Runtime the Application Server URL is set to "127.0.0.1:8889/forms/frmservlet".
However, when I attempt to run the form, the URL "http://127.0.0.1:33140/W2dwbV9eXS2fPkuKlxNhCxFWdEihwDviat2uV7ycrSotqwDN" gets called.
The screen displays the string "ORACLE FORMS." and the status bar says "Waiting for 127.0.0.1...", and that's it.
I wonder how the port number 33140 got selected. Interestingly, this time it is a different number; last time it was port 32979. In fact, the port number seems to change each time; I tried again and now it is 33189.
I will now try to set the port number for the frmservlet to 8890.
I choose Edit --> Preferences --> Runtime and set the application server URL to "127.0.0.1:8890/forms/frmservlet".
I stop the container, open /home/oracle/OraHome_1/j2ee/DevSuite/config/default-web-site.xml and change the port number to 8890:

I restart the container, start Form Builder, connect to the database, and open my test form.

Porting open source application to SAP WAS

Hi,
I'm porting jZForum ( http://www.jzforum.org ) to integrate it with SAP WAS and SAP Dictionary instead of internally used
HypersonicSQL database. I mainly changed obtaining connection to the database directly through JDBC:
jdbc:hsqldb:hsql://localhost:1476
into connection obtained through JNDI with Spring Framework (more precisely through org.springframework.jndi.JndiObjectFactoryBean class) :
jdbc/MY_DATABASE
with connection pooling parameters:
initial connections: 1
maximum connections: 50
maximum time to wait for connection: 120
expiration: yes
connection lifetime: 600
cleanup thread: 300
Unfortunately ported jzForum seems to "hang on". I see in Log Viewer (Visual Administrator) log that it is quering database with a lot of SELECTs,
I assume that it is indexer which on startup is indexing all objects from the forum to speed up searching this objects in the future.
After about 2-3 minutes hanging on, application shows generated page, but every subsequent request to
the server cause hanging on in the same way.
I assume that it might be the case that application is obtaining through JNDI connection to the database, but is
not releasing it. I have examined entire jzForum code, and closed all unnecesary Connection in final Java statements,
but it unfortunately didn't help.
Original jzForum (not ported to SAP Dictionary) works on SAP WAS just perfectly.
Have someone else experience with porting open source application from some database (eg. HSQL) to SAP Dictionary ?
Maybe it is a problem with Spring Framework implementation ? Maybe it is a problem with wrongly configured connection pool ?
I have no idea at the moment. Every help will be appreciated.

Hi Marcin,
from what you are describing, the port to JNDI obtained connections and your "research" in visual admin uncovered some issues with the original code ( not closing open connection ).
My attempt to explain your difficulties:
1. Working with hsqldb in direct mode, where hsqldb connection are obtained by driver.getConnection(), works well, becuse GC "reclaims" unused but not closed
connections. Things seems to work out this way.
2. Getting connections through JNDI involves a datasource with its associated db pool. Not closed connections are then "trapped" in the pool as long as is specified by the "connection lifetime" DS parameter. Things get worse by the time, becuse the application leaks constantly connections.
Remedy for the problems described in 2:
- middle term: fix the application: here spring might be useful, consider using its JDBC support classes!
- short term: set the connection lifetime to a small value to let pool reclaim the unclosed connections

CCTV port opening

Can anyone please help
Me I have just had ADT CCTV installed and I am trying to open 2 ports so that I can watch my CCTV over 3G when out of my home, I can watch it locally on wifi but cannot open the 2 ports BT have also tried and say that they are sending me out a new router as there must be a fault as it will not let me open any ports, it will let me put the ports in and shows that they have been added but then when I go onto a port forwarding checker it says the ports are still closed... Please help ???

WRT54G (ver 7)-port forwarding problems (eMule)

Hi I want to use the eMule file sharing program and the problem is I cannot forward any ports (this problem already occured at other programs too) ... Im sure Ive typed in the correct port ranges, and used the correct IP-adress... I tried to use static IP adress, furthermore ive disabled the "Block Anonymous Internet Requests " option, without any success... I cannot find any firmware updates for this version either... pls help

Please open the router configuration interface at http://192.168.1.1/ (or whichever address you use to configure the forwardings). Click on Status on post the full status of your connection.
Also post the exact settings which you use for the port forwardings.
On the computer to which you forward and which is running the emule server, open a command prompt window, enter "ipconfig /all" and "netstat -aon". Post the full output of those two commands as well.

Listen to serial port open by another application

I have a test setup where another application is communicating with a device over a serial port and I want my Labview gui to be able to listen to the communication. Since two applications cannot have the same serial port open I can't just open the port and do a visa read. Is there any way to do an unreserved open and only listen to communication on the serial port or do I physically have to break out the receive line in hardware and add a second serial port in order to do this?

A better solution would be to have your reader post a message to a queue with the data. You can have a separate task that handles the UI updates. Depending on the type and amount of data you may not need to post all of the data.
The answer to your specific question though is no, you cannot have two readers on the same connection.

P13N Server and App Server on separate systems - strange ports opened

Hi -
          We have a configuration using WebLogic Personalization Server 3.1.1 on one
          server and WebLogic Application Server 5.1 w/Service Pack 6 on another
          server. What we've seen with our firewall configuration is that it appears
          there are high-number random ports opened occasionally from the App Server
          to the P13N Server, which d not appear to be related to connection attempts
          (ex: port 42100). The only communication that we know should be happening
          between the two systems are T3-based JNDI lookups, LDAP lookup/update
          requests, and SQL queries. My questions, then, are as follows:
          1) In handling JNDI requests, are there any callbacks that can occur between
          the two servers in this configuration on a different port?
          2) When separating the P13N Server and App Server, are there any "private"
          ports opened between the two systems for management? As far as I know, the
          App Server should simply view the P13N Server as another client, but the
          firewall log would indicate that something is going on related to this.
          If anyone has a similar config and can provide some info related to
          potentially unseen port connections, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

Image open problem in nokia 5230

I have nokia 5230 mobile & i am using from last 10 months but from past few days i am facing problem regarding image/songs open problem. whenever i trying to open image my phone gets hang & it shows nothing in it but i have 100 pics in memory card, same problem is with songs whenever i put some songs in memry card but songs gallery after refreshing shows nothing.
Please help me to resolve this issue.

im not sure what to do about the images but the same happened with the songs. here is waht i did:
1. make sure you have the latest firmware installed (fw. 50).
2. when it is installed copy all tracks to pc and install nokia ovi music.
3. delete the folder called 'music' on your memory card.
4. open ovi music and add songs to playlists and copy to device. this will create a new folfre called 'music' and the error should be fixed
if that fails you should try a program called lcg jukebox as this is a much better music player

Desktop.open() Problem

I recently put together an application that relied heavily on the Desktop.open( ) method and several other methods from the Desktop class. However, all of a sudden the Desktop.open() does not work. I believe I read some where that this was due to the ShellExecute function or dll or something like that.
However, since my app is targetted at the Windows platform I resorted to using windows Explorer to launch the system default applications for files using a the code below

I've do a more simple example of the problem. I create two files on "\\fiuu\proyectosShared", one called "test.txt" and the other one called "te st.txt". I execute your exact source for the who paths whith these results:
File f = new File("//fiuu/proyectosShared/test.txt");

dt.open(f);
RESULT:
\\fiuu\proyectosShared\test.txt exists: true
(notepads opens the file)The second test does'nt work:

Something curious: try to execute Runtime.getRuntime().exec("explorer " + f.getAbsolutePath) for a file that has thow white spaces on his name....

Oracle error - Open problem

on accessing the database i get this following error:

How can i resove it...

Port Mapping Problem with AEX

I have a new Airport Extreme and a problem that did not exist with the Airport. I connect a Toshiba network camera to an Airport Express, set as a WDS remote, with the netcam connected to the wired ethernet port of the Express. I can see the netcam, which also functions as a web server, on the internal 10.x.x.x address, and have reserved a discrete 10.x.x.x address via the MAC/DHCP reservation function of the Extreme. Just like the older Airport which did this without a hiccup, I should be able to map a port (e.g. 1200) on the public IP to port 80 of the internal 10.x.x.x address, then access the netcam on the internal network from any browser (http://67.x.x.x:1200). My cable modem is just that: no router involved other than the Airport Extreme. I'm using the latest Extreme and Express firmware, and am either missing something with the new Leopard firewall, overlooking something else, or dealing with a product flaw. Any help is appreciated and Happy Holidays.

I have forwarded the port (have tried several different ports actually) in what I think it the correct way: using the Airport Utility, connected to the Airport Extreme, and, under advanced options, selected port mapping, entered the public TCP port of 1200, then the private 10.x.x.x IP address of the netcam (which I can access from the internal network with no problem), coupled with the private TCP port of 80. I then attempt to access the netcam from the Internet by entering http://my cable modem IP address:1200 (or another port to which I've attempted to map). This method worked for two years with the Airport, but, with the Extreme and Leopard (simultaneous transition), I'm stumped. After reading other about other port mapping problems, I reserved an IP address for the netcam based on its MAC with no positive results. I also set the firewall through the Security icon in System Preferences to allow all incoming connections. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
