Bizarre color alterations

Alright, I've found a couple things here about this, but its not solving my problem as mine is a little different.
I have. Tiger, DVDSP 4.2.1
Designing a dvd with motion menus, etc.
Now. I have three files
Transition movie into first menu
first menu background movie
Transition OUT movie to next menu
All three were created in After effects, all using same files, same gamma, same settings. All imported into FCP, and all exported through compressor with identical settings as individual files
Now, ((( this is key )))) If I put all three on one track and play them next to each other, they flow seemlessly from one to the other with no color shifts.
However,
When I set it up as (track)*endjump to menu1* ----Menu1----(button to transitionOUT) I get a weird flash frame between the movies, and at the end of the transitionOUT, if I dont loop it or just go to the next menu, it indeed stops, and suddenly jumps up in gamma a good deal. If I loop it, great, but if I button away from it, again, I get a quick flash frame of the high gamma before it moves into the transitional movie.
Anyone help?
AB

Monika,
Thank you.  Overprint preview didn't resolve the issue either.  However, after seeing your comments about spot colors, I tried a couple of things that finally gave me the desired result.  I had to go into the original logo file and convert all spot colors to process colors, turn "Global" off, then re-place the logo into the banner file.  (I tried converting the colors in the banner file, but this did not make the desired change.)
SUCCESS!  Thank you very much for your help on this!

  • JPG compression/colors altered... Help!

I'm using Java 1.4 ImageI/O to create a JPG from a buffered image and save the JPG to a file. It works okay, except I had thought that it would save the JPG with no compression if none was specified. But it was compressed... So, I got an ImageWriter for JPG and tried this bit of code:
    JPEGImageWriteParam iwparam = new JPEGImageWriteParam(null);
    iwparam.setCompressionMode(ImageWriteParam.MODE_EXPLICIT);
    iwparam.setCompressionQuality(compressionQuality);
where compressionQuality is set to 0 so that there would be NO COMPRESSION. It looks better, but is still fuzzy. And my colors are all darker than they should be. The buffered image is defined as such:
    BufferedImage bi = new BufferedImage(390,420,BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB)
Is there another way to set some parameters or anything so that there is no compression and the colors will be right???
I cannot use GIF b/c ImageI/O does not support writing that format. I thought about using PNG, but am unsure of browser support for this.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

I've seen several posts on here where people have done similar things as I: created a jpg from bufferedImage that consisted of simple drawLine, drawRect type images. No one else's jpg's are as crappy looking as mine?? Why not?

  • Bizarre colored text in 10.4.6

Last night I updated my 17-inch PowerBook (1GHz, 1GB) to 10.4.6 using Software Update (which has always worked fine for me in the past). Since doing so, when it renders black text, odd bits of color show up in and around the characters. It's not a problem with explicitly-colored text. I've searched the forum, and find no reference to this one. I see a lot of advice to install from the combo updater rather than Software Update, so I tried that, but the symptoms remain. No "font smoothing" setting in Appearance makes any difference, and it persists if I change screen resolutions. Some other bits of text are being rendered oddly as well, but it's hard to be more specific than that.
To see what I'm talking about, look at http://surly.org/finder.png and http://surly.org/fontbook.png -- the fact that I'm able to take screenshots shows that it's not something in my display hardware.
    Suggestions would be appreciated.
    17-inch PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Problem occurs in all accounts (even a freshly-created one) and all applications (web browsers look particularly ugly).
As I said, none of the font smoothing settings change it a bit. It could still be related, though, because in general I use larger fonts than 12-point, which is the highest setting in "turn off text smoothing".
I have not tried repairing permissions, because I can't envision what difference it would make, and as a systems professional I try to stay away from the "just try this, it fixes things sometimes" sorts of solutions, but I suppose I could give it a whirl.

  • Colors altered

I developed a very simple form without specifying any color (I let them as unspecified). But after having run this new form with Oracle Applications, I get strange colors in the standard oracle applications forms, making them unreadable.
    Have you experienced this pb?

Thanks, dominic23, I already tried that.  I also tried recalibrating the colors on the admin account - another fail.  Then I tried replacing the default login window desktop with another image.  The new image appeared distorted as well.
What's odd is that the bad colors appear only when no one is logged into the computer.  Once someone attempts a login and enters a successful username/password combo the colors become normal for a second or two, just before the login window disappears and the user is logged in.  The colors also appear perfectly normal when viewing remotely on Apple Remote Desktop.

  • Bizarre color problem with macmini

I just bought a mac mini intel. And have it hooked up to a JVC hdtv with DVI-DVI.
In some windows. Everything is blue and yellow. No reds show up. But it's completely erratic.
For instance: On the dock, all logos look fine. When I launch front row (just the opening screen) everything is blue and yellow.
Most photo's go blue and yellow in iphoto. but display fine in front row sometimes.
The open, close, minimize logos are always the correct colors. Even if the info within the window is not.
This is not a monitor problem. Or a cable hookup issue. It's either software/color profile. Or hardware.
Do anyone know how to fix this? Apple is clueless.

That's a classic example of the basic problem with 16 bit color. There is no solution that I know of.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 crashing and bizarre colors with Yosemite 10.10.1

See attached images. Latest version of Yosemite, Premiere and Cuda driver is updated to 6.5.36. Only happens when I'm using Premiere. Given, it's not Premiere CC, is there still support available?

    >Given, it's not Premiere CC, is there still support available?
CS6 is 3+ years old and no longer supported by Adobe... so you are mostly on your own when it comes to problems with Yosemite... unless someone who reads this message is using both and can give you some ideas

  • Color problems when printing from PDF created in Pages

I have created a newsletter in Pages, and have used the Export > PDF so that the file can be sent to a professional printer.  One of the graphics (created by an outside graphic designer and put into my Pages document as a jpg file) prints in all sorts of bizarre colors - nothing like how it displays on the screen.  Is there some sort of color formatting that I can do to make it print in the correct color?

The Pages pdf will have many more problems than this case of mismatched color profiles.
Unless you really know what you are doing avoid using Pages for commercial output. For a start all your bitmaps will have been rendered to a too low 72dpi resolution.

  • Clips are getting distorted after rendering a color grade; any solutions?

I've been experiencing this problem as I've been learning to color grade.  Once I have all of my layers set the way I want them (initial correction, color alteration, masking, and sometimes adding a vinette) and I go to render, my clip will become completely distorted.  Is there any solution to this when it happens, or will I have to restart the grade completely?  Could there just be something I'm doing wrong in my workflow?  I'm open to any and all answers.

Pure guess, do you have set in preferences high quality in playback.

  • Photoshop Color Management

    Hi all,
I've noticed a small issue (that is probably my fault).  My color settings for some reason are all off.
When I open a document in my OS preview the colors are as they should be.  When I open that same document in Photoshop the colors are all de-saturated and muted.  When I use "Save for web" which gives me a preview the colors go back to and save as correctly as they looked in the OS preview.
What's going on here and how can I make Photoshop open the images as they should be with no color alteration.  In my color profile settings the only one that comes close is if i change it to "Monitor Colors"
    Thanks again in advance!
    -Patrick

    Thank you Chris,
When I did windows update I must have checked to download new display drivers I'm using (Dell with Dell Screens).  It was loaded into the color settings as a profile, I hit delete and now all is well.

  • The limitations on L*a*b colors & is there a workaround?

I am working on a piece that will be printed on a 7 color printer with a very, very large gamut. I was planning on taking advantage of all that but just discovered that Adobe limits the L*a*b colors to those with a or b +127 to -128. The printer I'll be using is capable of doing more. Two questions:
    why this limiation?
is there any way around it?

My guess would be the printer LAB space is not the same as the image LAB space and going beyond the application's LAB space creates bizarre color shifts.  It could also be a type of threshold within the application to keep color within a colorspace' range.  Typically, printer gamut is smaller than image gamut.  This discussion could get very textbook fast, so I'll try to constrain it to where you can get a handle on it, OK?  Eventhough the printer uses 7 cartridges, there are some colors it cannot match.  When inkjets first came onto the scene, the were limited to CMYK.  Most highlight densities 1 - 5% were non-printable and simply got blown-out.  On the other end of the spectrum, shadow densities of 89 - 99% were non-printable and simply filled-in.  This was due to an inherent low printer resolution of 300 to 600 dpi.  As part of a solution, printer manufacturers used more cartridges like Lc and Lm ( light cyan, light magenta ) to help image highlight and shadow areas.  At the same time, additional carts and finer printer head technologies allowed for photographic printing.  Suddenly, photographers could abandon their darkroom facilities.  More recently, some printer manufacturers added Matte Black and Gray carts for greater Black + White photographic flexibility.  These added carts increased the printer's gamut where skin tones and blue skies became manageable.
So, the print gamut has become wider, but still remains short of transmissive color ( monitor ) simply because it is reflective color ( ink on paper ).  My recommendation would be to work in LAB to get the results you are looking for and then convert a copy of the file to an RGB colorspace suitable for photographic printing.  If you are printing in a graphic arts scenario, convert an additional copy from RGB to CMYK in the most appropriate profile.  Illustrator does not use a LAB document color space.  It's either RGB or CMYK.  Why?  Printer drivers ( and/or RIP ) convert either RGB or CMYK into LAB to interpret the color and print the file.  LAB is part of the printer's language.  LAB is a conversion process from color space into print driver language.  There really are no LAB color limitations involved.  What you perceive as a limitation could actually be the parameters where printers can interpret accurately the color info coming in.  Therefore, the end result is accurate representation of printer capable color.  The entrie print process is a huge math equation full of constraints to keep things manageable.  Should software engineers become so irresponsible as to eliminate those constraints, there would be print anarchy with artists making color demands that would be impossible to reproduce no matter how many color catridges the inkjet has.  See my point?  The entire process, creation to print, is a discipline.

  • Flash workspace color problem

I have an Intel iMac runing OSX 10.4.11 I have installed CS3
Premium. I am taking a Flash class at the JC . When I start up
Flash CS3 the very first window (Flash icon and version #) is a
bizare rainbow color, the welcome screen has to be turned off or it
freezes the program, same with Dreamweaver. When I open a new
project The pasteboard is dark blue and the stage is pink. If I try
to change the background color on the stage with the property
inspector I always get a different color than I pick. If I pick red
I get blue, blue I get green, green I get red, white is pink.
Objects drawn on the stage have the same problem but type always
displays the color I pick. In the color picker if I type in FFFFFF
or 255 255 2555 I get the pink color. The only color that displays
    properly is black.
I have never seen this problem before nor can I find any
reference to it. So is it a Flash bug an Intel iMac bug or what?
All colors display correctly in Photoshop Illustrator,
InDesign and Dreamweaver. I also get bizarre colors on flash text
and buttons in Firefox but not in Safari.
Where do I begin to solve this? I have reinstalled Flash CS3
    and it didn't help.
    Thanks,
    Stephen

    Try importing the Illustrator file.

  • Photoshop CS5 color help.

Hey, I tried figuring this out myself but to no avail. so I am asking anyone here for some advice.
I am trying to make a "lightsaber" effect on some images. In an earlier version of photoshop (earlier than the CS versions i think) it ended up as the blade with its color on a black background. This image was placed on top of my image, the blending mode changed to screen, and it turned out fine. The black disappeared, and the blade kept its vibrant color.
    Tutorial I used: http://alienryderflex.com/rotoscope/
Blade image before "screeining" over background image: http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/qq192/CrazedOne1988/lasers.jpg
I've tried this in cs3 and cs5, but something in the program must have changed. When I set the "blades" image to screen, the blade color ends up blending into the background color (altering the blades color) and ends up completely disappearing against a white background. The blade color alters based on what color the image behind it is. I want the blades to keep their vibrant color regardless of what background it is against. Any advice?
    Pre-CS: http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/qq192/CrazedOne1988/endoftheworld.jpg
CS3 CS5: http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs37/i/2008/284/8/1/Halo_Star_Wars_by_CrazedOne1988.jpg (blade color in this image was set to Red:0 Green: 127 Blue: 255, a clear cyan blue color, and it's blending into the orange, creating a purplish blue color)

When I set the "blades" image to screen, the blade color ends up blending into the background color (altering the blades color) and ends up completely disappearing against a white background.
Of course they will disappear against a white background.
The Blending Mode Screen can only produce lighter values (you can figure out the math yourself or check out the Help, »Blending mode descriptions«) so on white it will result in white.
Anyway, I guess the intended effect may possibly be approximated with Blend Mode Normal.
In the case of your example a Selection based on Green used to make a Green (0/255/0) Solid Color Layer, a Selection based on either Red or Blue as the basis of a white Solid Color Layer could be used.
On Black the results are identical, on lighter backgrounds the result will differ increasingly, but one can still control the aura via Opacity.

  • Display color profile bug when using the fast account switch from a guest account to an admin account (and vice versa)

    Hey,
I'm sometimes using a guest account on my MBP (unibody late 2008 2,4 GHz Core2Duo, 4GB DDR3 running OSX 10.9.4 on an OCZ 128GB SSD) for a more distraction-free working space and I noticed right away a disturbing bug:
Using the fast account switch (upper right hand corner of the screen) in Mavericks from an admin account to log into a guest account (or vice versa) produces, after the fancy rotating cube animation, some strange distortion of the desktop background happens (lasting approx. 2 sec.). After that the color profile of the display is changed into an usable but ugly one, which is disturbing while working with pictures. When checking the color profile in the pref pane, the standard "display" profile is said to be active (it's the one I use) but still the colors aren't the same. Selecting another profile and re-selcting the desired one doesn't fix the problem. Switching back to the other account with the fast switching leaves the colors altered. Logging out and deleting the guest account seems to the problem for the remaining admin account. Rebooting  and logging in to either of the accounts (admin or guest) from the standard account selecting page at booting shows the normal color profile.
Is it a general bug or is their anything a can do to prevent this problem (other than never using the fast switching)?
    Thanks for your advice.

I cannot agree more with your comments! What a way to frustrate your customers!
I have been having an issue with iCloud on Mac where it kept asking me for my password and sometimes would, sometimes would not continue to access my iCloud mail. Today it just refused to connect to iCloud mail.
I looked in the Mail, Contacts and Calendars in my MacBook Pro settings and discovered that 2 iCloud accounts were present. One with my original Apple ID (a gmail address) and a second with my new iCloud email ( an @me.com address). Having deleted the second account, using the new @me.com address everything is working fine.
So from my viewpoint when I moved over to iCloud I was asked to sign in with my Apple ID (the gmail address) then to create an @me.com address. However, as far as I can see all sign ins to the new @me.com account on Macbook, iPhone and iPad need to be done through the old Apple ID (the gmail address). Is that confusing and just plain crazy???
Further, after creating the new @me.com address I soon found out that this is apparently now forever bound to my old Apple ID and cannot be changed. I mean why can't I delete the iCloud account and start anew with a different @me.com address??? Also, as everybody using iCloud must create an @me.com address why on earth can I not get rid of my old gmail address and have my entire Apple ID accessed through the new @me.com address? Creating a whole new Apple ID will not solve this as we are unable to transfer purchases between accounts.
Apple products are great IMHO, but they do seem to not think things through in a very big way sometimes......

  • Why are my calendars changing colors?

This has been happening occasionally over the past 6 months: the various calendars I have created in Calendar suddenly change colors from what I set. I can go in and reset them, but the reset doesn't stick; the next time I open Calendar, the calendar events have changed to bizarre colors again. Then in a week or two, as suddenly as it started, the color changes stop and all is normal again.
This does NOT affect my iCloud-synced iPhone or iPad calendars - their colors are what I originally intended. I am running the latest version of Mountain Lion, 10.8.5.

I just had the same problem.  I went to the iCloud to change the colors back, but they would automatically change back.
    Here's what I did:
    1.  Take your calendars offline in iCal
    2.  Export the calendars that change color to the desktop
    3.  Delete the calendars from both the iCloud and iCal
    4.  Create new calenders in iCal making them the color you want
    5.  Import the calendars from the desktop int your new calenders
    6.  Put your Calendars back online to sync with iCloud
    Good luck!

  • New Program Guide - unusable

I want to be tactful about this - what would be the best way to characterize your new program guide - Sick Joke? In what sense is it an improvement over the previous one?  It is in fact immeasurably WORSE.  How could anyone at Verizon have signed off on this?
The biggest problem is that it is now unacceptably, absurdly, SLOW.  Was that the intention?  I asked Verizon Phone Tech support if  they slowed it down intentionally , because maybe the network traffic volume was too costly for Verizon and they wanted to cut expenses.  Amazingly, he did not give a flat denial to this.  As I recall he said He didn't have any knowledge that that was the case.
The way it used to work is for example you would hold down the right arrow button, and it would as expected just briskly scroll through  all the programming selections for that day for whatever channel you happened to be looking at, scrolling through all subsequent shows on the channel that day.  (And also as a recall when scrolling through subsdequent days).
Now you hold down the right arrow button, and it scrolls forward just one show, and then just freezes, doing nothing.  If a few seconds later you lift your finger off the right arrow button,  it immediately jumps to say 8 hours in advance.  This makes this feature unusable.  How could you not understand that, Verizon?
The same situation exists when scrolling to different channels with the up or down arrows.  Press and hold down  the down arrow, and it does in fact scroll through the subsequent channel icons, but it does NOT,  as it did with the previous program guide, scroll through all the  program DESCRIPTIONS in real time.  So why was that feature ditched?
The fastest it can scroll in real time now either left/right or up/down  is 1 entire second.  So, iow, hit the down arrow, and...one one thousand two ...OK NOW it switches.  What is up with that?
For the record, this is not the high-def Verizon box.  The TV on the high-def box seem to work a little better.  Does Verizon only support high-def now?
And I haven't even mentioned the bizarre color scheme and other bizarre design decisions for the new Program Guide layout.  So, how is it better to reduce the size on the screen where the actual program info is, and surround it with a a lot of unused white space (or shoud I say unused sickly pale blue space)?  Just as far as the aesthetics of the new guide, there is not a single aspect of it that is not drastically worse than it was previously.  (e.g.hitting the info button during a show and it covering a third of  the screen.)
But disregard the complaints about  the colors, etc.  - just go wild with that if you want.  Just please restore the SPEED of the programming guide to what it was previously.  Because the way it is now its unusable.
Is there any way to go back to the old guide?  There is in fact an option in the Menu for the Classic Guide, but it does not do anything except rearrange the new guide a little bit to make it even worse.
What is going on with you people (Verizon).

I'm sorry to hear your frustration with the new guide. There is no way to go back to the old style guide. If unplugging the power cord to the box and plugging it in doesn't speed up the guide maneuvering, please send me a private message.
