Bizarre font suddenly on all browsers

two days ago my mac suddenly began using a bizarre, fairly hard to read , font in all of my browsers(Camino, Safari,Firefox,Mozilla). It's not every word on every page b ut seems to be those areas where the writer of the page didn't specify the font and the system is substituting another one. I have no idea why this happened but I did download a .zip file with a lot of fonts from a font group I belong to and put that folder in my ~/library/fonts folder. Don't know if that had anything to do with the change or not. I've been to the FAQ area and followed directions there for fixing font problems and have removed the fonts from /Library/Fonts and ~/library/fonts and have made sure I have only the basic required fonts in the system font folder. I've rebooted. Now all the fonts I had set up for various programs (mail, etc) have reverted to defaults which is fine but.....I still have the hard-to-read odd font in some areas of all pages in all browsers. I don't have that odd font on other programs like Text Edit when viewing a document.
Any one have an idea how to fix this weird font thing and get back to what ever font the system normally uses for areas in web pages that don't have specified fonts?
Thanks!
Paula

Did you clean your font caches with FontFinagler (use Google to find it)?

  • My default font size is set at 18px. Is this the default default font size for all users of ff 3.6+?

I was developing a site in ff when I noticed other browsers were rendering the font size smaller than in firefox. Upon investigation I discovered that my ff 3.6 default font was Adobe Caslon Pro Bold 18px.
I have never deliberately set this. My understanding was that all browsers default default font size was 16px.
Has ff default font size changed from 16px to 18px?

    You're welcome.

  • Nav Bar disappears in live view and in all browsers

    Hello all,
I have an issue I haven't had before. I created a navigation bar right under the header.  After adding my text for the links, I checked in all browsers and each time, the nav bar disappeared, leaving me with just the words. Also the font changed back to the page default. I solved the font problem by creating images using the font I want and now I get them all to show up, but the nav bar is still missing even though it is always there in Design View. Hi, thanks. I think we need to take a look at the Flash files.
Go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash  Open Flash and post back all files listed. You will need to right click on the NPSWF files and then click on Properties to obtain the version numbers.

  • All browsers lose internet connection after awhile

After upgrading Safari and Java yesterday, all of my internet browsers are losing connection after awhile (10 - 15 minutes), until I disable and enable Airport. However, when the browsers are dosconnected, the airport connection is still ok, because Mail stays connected. The disconnection in the browsers happens randomly.
So if 1 browser suddenly disconnects, all the other browsers cannot connect either. Mail stays connected. Browsers only connect after I disable and enable Airport
    I tried the following stuff:
    repair disk permission
    maintenance
    cleared java's cache
    rebooted osx a few times
    reseted router

What does your Application/Browser log say in 'console' ?

  • All browsers freeze in Mavericks

Ever since i've moved from Mountain Lion to Mavericks i'm having major problems with all browsers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Chromium). They all freeze for 4-5 seconds, and this happens every 1-2 minutes. This happens on every pages i visit, even on 'light' websites like google.com.
I've tried updating all browsers, updating the plugins, disabling all plugins, closing all other running programs but the problem is still there.
I installed a fresh copy of Mountain Lion just to see if i had the same problem, but all browsers worked fine. This happens only on Mavericks.
Can someone please help me with this? I dont want to go back to Mountain Lion again

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot insafe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • I'm unable to load certain websites across all browsers on a MacBook Pro

Suddenly I'm unable to load certain websites (sundancechannel.fr, sundancechannel.tw, etc.) across all browsers—Safari, Firefox, Chrome—on my new MacBook Pro. Other computers on the same wifi can access those same sites fine.
I either get a won't connect to server message or a blank page.
    Any idea what's going on?
I've thus far tried restarting the connection, clearing my cache, restarting the computer, deleting my history, and even getting in touch with the site owners.

    Cambrey,
that HTML content shows that there’s no content at that Web site — it will only show the heading “301 Moved Permanently” and the single line “nginx/1.2.6”. I suspect that they might have wanted to include a redirection directive in that document, but for some reason, they didn’t. Your browsers are behaving as they ought to do with this Web site.
Have you considered trying www.sundancechannel.fr in your browsers instead of sundancechannel.fr?

  • Font Pack Changed All My Fonts! Please Help!

I Just got a new Font pack for Photoshop and installed all the fonts and now all of the sudden all my fonts have changed to somethign crazy I can barely read! When I browse the internet in any browser all the content is in this same crazy font, how do I change it back to default????

Most likely the font cache files on the system got trashed.
Close all running applications. From an administrator account, open the Terminal app and enter the following command. You can also copy/paste it from here into the Terminal window:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
Terminal will then ask for your admin password. As you type, it will not show anything, so be sure to enter it correctly.
This removes all font cache files. Both for the system and the current user font cache files. After running the command, close Terminal and immediately restart your Mac.

  • Consistent text size for all browsers

Can someone please point me to css help in understanding how to size text so it looks (relatively) the same in different browsers?

    Hi
Browsers use different defaults for the font size, typically 14px and 16px. So in order to get a default size across all browsers, you have to set this for the body of the document.
You could use px, rem or % values for all your settings, all have there advantages and disadvantages.
Pixel values are a relative value on computers and similar devices and not an absolute value as many people think, so there use will vary depending upon things like, resolution and pixel-aspect-ratio.
% values are as good as ems but are more difficult to calculate.
rem values take the default pixel size of the browser and all values are then calculated according to this value. As the default value can be anything, you do not actually know what the user is going to see. As an example if the user has set their default value in the browser options to 20px then the relative value of 1rem is 20px, if however they have set this to 12 px then the value of 1rem is 12px, so the use of rem gives an unknown font size.
rem does have one distinct advantage over other forms of values in that it does not cascade and all values are worked out from the browsers default value, which is a fantastic usability feature as the user then decides on the size of any text, unfortunately it does also mean that the designer has no control over what this is.
em also has its disadvantages in that the value cascades, as an example suppose you have the value set in the body of 16px and the p tag at 1em, if you then set the default value for a div at say 2em, and the value for a p tag within the div at 0.75em the value for the p tag inside the div will be 24px not 12px, as it inherits the value of the parent as its base value

  • Image map links not working in all browsers

Hi, I develop HTML marketing emails once a week and my boss
has recently informed me that some, not all, of the image mapping
links do not work in all browsers or emails i.e. MacMail, Opera,
Safari, etc. He's positive there's something in Dreamweaver that
makes the links universally accommodated no matter what email/web
browser you use, but I haven't been able to find a solution as of
    yet.
Any help on this would be appreciated, thanks!
    :music;

Let's start with the least critical issue. Your boss and his
    boss are
simply wrong. An HTML link is just an HTML link, whether
    created in DW or
    in Notepad.
Now, on to the meat. When you upload this page to the web, do
    the links
work? And when you say that they don't work, what do you
    mean? Do you mean
that when you click on them, you are not taken to the linked
    page? Which
    links are not working?
Finally, why do you have your mapped image also within an
    anchor tag?
    <a href="
    http://www.beyondthewall.com/xcart/giftcert.php"><img
    src="Slice.jpg" width="263" height="58" border="0"
    usemap="#Map" /></a>
Is that the one where the link doesn't work?
Can you post a link to this page on the web, please?

  • HT203987 Ad Pop ups coming in all browsers on Mac

Since morning my Mac (running Yosemite) is showing pop ups with on the right bottom of all browsers and at times opens a new tab going to Mackeeper website. I tried various stuff posted on the forum like
searching for various items in Finder as described here by Apple Support
    installing & scanning through AdwareMedic
removing all extensions from all browsers
    off course rebooting the system
    opening URLs in Incognito mode
These obscene pop ups keep showing up in All Browsers. Interestingly they do not appear on some websites or when I doing Google Search or viewing pages on Apple Forums but keep coming on most of the sites I m visiting. I tried visiting the same websites on by MacBook and every thing is clean there.
Only different thing than my usual work I did on this Mac was to download & install Audacity from audacity.sourceforge.net/download/mac. The other thing was I tried downloading Inkscape from https://inkscape.org/en/download/mac-os/ which asked me to install XQuartz from xquartz.macosforge.org which I stopped in between. Not sure if any of these is causing the issue.
More importantly, how do I get rid of these pop ups. Willing to buy any good paid software from Mac Store if that helps.
    Thanks

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:
    [Process started]
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
The test results are on the Clipboard.
      Please close this window.
    [Process completed]
The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
    12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I may not agree with them.

  • Webpages stop loading after some time across all browsers

I have come across a problem that 2 of the users that I support have been experiencing recently and I am trying to figure out where to begin.  They will be able to use the internet, access webpages and everything for some time till at one point seemingly randomly all web browser connectivity becomes stuck at the dialog Connecting and eventually times out trying to connect to the host server.  Yet other forms of internet access, like ping and telnet, work just fine at this point.  Basically it seems that all traffic going to ports 80 and 8080 times out and I have pulled the logs where I believe this happened and pasted them here:
    http://pastebin.com/VPSPwyBe
A temporary fix for this so far is a quick reboot and everything behaves normally for sometime till web access drops and another reboot is required.  This is true across all browsers, IE, Firefox, and Chrome on a MacBook Pro Retina 15" running OSX 10.9.4.  I have tried fresh installs of all the browsers and switching to a different OS X user account and still have the same problem.  I have also tried to flush the DNS using the terminal and that has had no effect.  There are no proxies involved and resetting the wireless adapter produces no results.  Going to keep searching for some other steps to try to fix this and will keep this thread updated.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

    Hi all
I¹ve created a Spry Horizontal Menubar in Dreamweaver
    CS3 and it works with
it¹s drop down submenus in every browser except the
    latest version of IE on
the PC. Firefox is fine on the PC, Safari is fine on the PC
    as are their Mac
equivalents. IE displays the sub menus horizontally across
    the page instead
    of vertically down.
Is there something I should know about here? Has IE got a
    problem with Spry
1.4? I know 1.5 is out as a beta but I¹m reluctant to
    mess about with
Dreamweaver¹s file architecture until a proper update
    comes out.
    Hope you can help
