Bizarre High-pitched noise from K8N-NEO *I have read the other posts*

Hello.
I just got a new system to build, but it has decided to pee in my Wheaties.
Here are the specs:
MSI Neo Platinum
Nvidia 6800 video
Athlon64 3200
Kingston Hyperx PC3200
Antec Tru430 - 430watt
+5   +12    +3
36A  26A    28A
The board, CPU, memory, and video are installed in a new Antec case.  The CPU is installed properly and I am using some ArticSilver 5 paste.
When the board posts, I hear a horribly loud and high pitched squeal.  It sounds like a smoke detector going off.
I have read a number of posts regarding loud noise from the MOSFETS or from a loose chipset heatsink or as a result of a poor power supply.  I think that this power supply should be adequate and the noise seems to be too loud to be a result of a loose component.
The board appears to go through the post procedure and stops on the "processor initialization" stage.  After about 2 seconds of being powered on the video fans stops spinning.  The HS Fan (which is the one that came with the retail package) does not appear to be spinning at full speed, neither is it running too slowly.  As a result, I have not put power to the board for more than a few seconds (fear of heat damage, though the HS never gets warm...)
I am at a loss here.  I have reseated everything several times, if this is a defective board then I am really irritated that it would pass QA and be sold.  Any suggestions that you could provide will be greatly appreciated.  If you prefer you can send me an email at [email protected]
Thanks again!
Moe

  • Ipod touch 4 creates high pitch noise from cassette adapter

Did not have this issue with my ipod touch 2nd generation.
Have a Monster cassette adapter in my car (looks to be an earlier model than what is currently for sale at Apple website). ipod touch runs off of battery (not plugged into power source).
Creates a high pitch noise through the speakers. Not particularly loud, but annoying and very noticeable during quiet moments of music/podcasts
Volume of noise does not change with changing the volume on the car audio system.
Will start when the ipod touch starts playing. Will persist as long as the ipod is playing. Will not immediately stop when the music is paused. It will stop though after about 10-15 seconds.
Any ideas of what is causing this and why it did not happen with my previous ipod touch (2nd gen)?
    Using iOS 4.1

    Thanks for the suggestions/questions
If I plug the touch into my wife's car that uses a straight plug-in (no cassette adapter), I don't hear the noise. Unfortunately this is not an option on my car.
Have not tried plugging it into an actual home stereo but can give that a try.
If the engine is shut off, the noise is still present. Unaffected by the engine or RPM of it.
One other clarification - the noise is constant coming from the ipod. It does not vary based on the ipod volume. What this means is that if I turn up the ipod to full volume (and turn down the volume of the car stereo), the noise is less noticeable.
Of course the noise gets amplified with the rest of the music by the car stereo volume.
Will also try other suggestion and see what happens if I turn Airplane mode on.
    Thanks

  • Portege R700 - high pitched noise

I get a high pitched noise from my Portege R700-11P. The noise is in the upper range of audible sound (maybe around 15'000 Hz) and is periodically increasing and decreasing at a frequency of about 0.5 Hz. It is always there if the laptop is plugged in to the power source and is sleeping, it is sometimes there if the laptop is plugged in and running, and it immediately vanishes if I plug it off. The noise seems to come from the upper left corner of the laptop. It is not very loud, but clearly audible and quite annoying after some time. Anyone knows the reason for this noise and any possibility to get rid of it?
    Thanks, Martin

Kojak45, no, I did not solve it, and I am not sure the latest developments will be reassuring for you: after a few months, the laptop sometimes started not waking up from hibernation anymore until it finally completely died. Luckily it was still under warranty, so it was now replaced with a new one. The new one also makes the high pitched noise, but this time only when it is running and plugged in.
    Cheers, Martin

  • A215-7422 Audio Issue: High-pitched noise

About 2 weeks ago, the audio would suddenly stop.  After restarting the laptop, it would work fine again.  This morning, however, the audio completely died.  Restarting it only gave me a low frequency click upon start up.  Updating the drivers and the system only made the laptop give off a high-pitched noise through the speakers that persists through turning the volumn down/off and plugging in headphones, on top of which it continues not to play an audio.

A quick update if it helps: I went in a disabled "High Definition Audio Device" and the high pitched noise from the speakers stopped.  Not sure if that helps anyone.

  • Anyone ever hear a loud high pitch noise

For the past week, I have heard a high pitched noise from my imac. It usually occurs when viewing videos and will go away once computer is shut off. It does ring when booting back up then goes away until a video or song is being played on the computer. Apple Support told me it wasn't something they could fix because the noise was heard during reboot. Any ideas? Thanks

Please describe "loud"... I hear once in a while a clicking noise that I know is coming from the hard drive while there is a lot of activity.  It is noticeable, but I wouldn't say it's loud.  My MacBook Pro does the same thing and at some point I was concerned but I found out that these noises are "normal" during a lot of disk activity.
I would still call or bring it to an Apple service store like the above suggestion, just in case!  If you don't live near a store, maybe they will be willing to hear the noise over the phone?  Just a thought.

  • A high pitched noise...

I've recently noticed that my 3rd Gen ipod is making a high pitched kind-of whizzing noise when it's in use. It started out doing it just when it was being updated so, I didn't think much of it. Now, it's doing it all of the time. It's never done this because so, I don't really know what to do about it.

Will bring it in, just wondering if I'm going to get the crazy look from the Genius at a noisy store who likely won't be able to hear....

  • I know this has been posted a few times but, High Pitch noises!!!!!!!!!

I keep getting wierd high pitch noises from the MOBO, I have tried to push in the MSI plate on the NB but it didn't stop the noise. But what I have found out stops it is kind of wierd.
If I go into any Windows Explorer window and right click on certain icons, (i.e. C: Hard Drive, the nVidia Ethernet Adapter, or my DVD-RW) the noise stops suddenly, but if I click off of the right click menu the noise starts back up again. I don't get it? Also if I use my mouse wheel and scrol up and down rapidly, the sound stops while I am scrolling, but once I stop it comes back.
I know that this has been posted a few times, but I still haven't found any way to stop the noise other than the ways above. So if anyone has/had the same problem and knows how to fix it, I would really appreciate it if you would share.
EDIT: I have also tried to return my CPU to stock speeds but there is still a noise.

Im sure this noise, is the copper coils around the components near the cpu socket.. its a known problem on MSI boards, where they start to resernate / vibrate.
I've seen two solutions, neither have i tried, as I don't have the problem, but they are pretty harmless.
one is to apply a small amount of superglue over the copper coils, allow to set and switch back on,, or a safer way (in my opinion) is to use some wax (or electical sealing wax).

For some reason the power brick for my Linksys E1200 router makes a loud annoying high pitched noise. Eh.

High pitch noises from AC adapters usually mean a protection component is either vibrating (may or may not be dangerous, depends on how well built the AC adaptor was), or that something is leaking electricity. The power adapter seems not to be functioning properly.

    Hi Guys.
Since I bought my N95 I can hear a hiss even when I'm not on call (all the time) and I bought Nokia Maps Navigation and it just worked once (a fews minutes after I bought this service). Now it's not working anymore (I've paid for 1 month service and it worked for a few minutes)...
Are those common issues? I read someone complaining about a high pitch noise (and saying that he had to change his phone more than once so it finally was replaced for a non-faulty one).
    Any help appreciated...

My experience is that most people who have troubles had a phone 'made in Nokia' (meaning some third world country with slave child labour)whilst every decent working phone is made in Finland, where it should be!
Check where yours is made in.
I must dissagree with you .. Mine is Made in Finland .. it came in grey box .. not the white one .... Mine has High pitch noise .... And about the High Pitch Noise you should know that not all ppl can hear it .. I have some friends that do not hear it at all .. others can hear it only with one of the ears .. others .. like me can hear it loud and clear ....
Perheps I should damage my hearing so I will not be able to hear this annoying high pitch noise
Well, my hearing is fine! I honestly do not have any high pitch noise or anything. I gave the phone to 7 of my friends and they could not hear anything either. I do not know, perhaps you got unlucky. But you are one of the very few with a phone made in Finland that I am aware of having troubles...

  • High Pitched Noise When Recording From iSight Camera

I apologize if this has been asked before. I did a search on here as well as with Google.
Whenever I record a video clip using the built in iSight camera I notice that there is a constant high-pitched noise embedded in the clip. You don't hear the noise during recording, and otherwise the audio is crystal clear during playback, but I can't seem to figure out what is causing this noise. Video clips I import into iMovie don't have this problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem? How can I prevent this from happening with future recordings?

    Hello obsidianspider
I am sorry to report that you are one of about ten people who have posted here about audio noises during video recordings with MacBooks. I listened to your YouTube clip, and I believe you are hearing something. I can hear the muffled "thumping" of background noises being amplified because there is no voice or other close sound being recorded in your video, but my old ears do not hear anything high pitched in your video (or anywhere else for that matter.)
I am sure Apple is aware of the issue, but with so small a number reporting this issue among thousands of MacBooks sold, I understand why there is not yet a kBase technical article on this subject.
I expect that Apple searches its warranty & repair work for quality issues and trends, but, if you have not (and do not) contact Apple or your retailer for service on this issue, please report your problem via MacBook Feedback so Apple can accurately record the magnitude of this problem. Unlike posting in this user forum, "Feedback" reports go directly to Apple.
We users who post here have found no solution yet, so the problem appears to require professional service for resolution.
However, if you are willing to try a test, please post back and tell us whether video or movie clip recording applications other than Apple's give the same audio noise you hear when using iSight with iMovie. Apple's QuickTime Pro has already been tested and found to exhibit the problem.
If you have access to an external microphone that can be located away from your Mac while you record video, you could also test to see whether you are recording a physical sound coming from your Mac or electronic noise being produced within your Mac's circuitry.
If you want to read the suggestions we have offered for minimizing your audio noise in video recordings, take a look at the suggestions offered in Eemma's thread, which was the first to report this problem. The suggestions for minimizing noise start here:

  • [MSI 760GM-P23 (FX)]High Pitched Noise near the CPU or from the CPU itself?

I just built this rig 3 weeks ago and I decided to update my BIOS because it's not compatible with Spec Ops: The Line, the game worked but the mobo/cpu started making these high pitched noise. I'm pretty sure it's not coming from the PSU because it at the bottom. The sound is not consistent
but it's really annoying when I hear it, do I need replace it or is there a way to get rid of it?
    Specs:
    AMD FX-6 6100 Black Edition 6 Core 3.3Ghz
    MSI 760GM-P23 (FX)
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2
    Crucial 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1333Mhz Ballistix Sport
PowerColor HD 7770 GHz Edition 1GB GDDR
Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 1TB Hard Drive SATAII
    CIT 500w Power supply

In most cases such noises are the effect of resonance caused by a PSU that does not provide clean power (not able to properly filter the noise in the signals, especially under rapidly changing power demand conditions).

  • High pitch noise in CS4 and CS5.5

    Hello.
Firstly I want to say that yes I know people have asked this question before but as far as I can tell none of them have been solved. Some have somewhat useful answers but none of them truely solve the problem. This thread in particular probably has the most information about the problem I'm having http://forums.adobe.com/message/4298535#4298535
I recently tried Premiere Pro CS5.5 and CS4 (trial version) to replace my Corel Video Studio X6 which tried to replace Windows Movie Maker. Video Studio and Movie Maker both crash whenever I imported large video files.
Anyway I'm getting a problem where the video files I import to Premiere Pro CS4 and CS5.5 have a high pitch noise in the video preview.
It's a high pitch noise almost like it's getting feedback from something. Also when someone is supposed to be talking there's a very low distortion, like the audio started playing in very slow motion but the high pitch noise is still present.
I'll put a link at the end with the video file that's giving me trouble.
The video and audio are in a single AVI file. The video format is H264 shot at 60fps and the audio should be Mpeg-1 L2, 48khz at 320kbps. I don't know if the video's audio is in 24bit or 16bit.
I've tried different settings for premiere. Trying 60fps and 30fps for the framerate for the project. Trying 44khz and 32khz and 96khz didn't fix it. Using the "Desktop" preset in CS4 and Custom for CS5.5.
My audio hardware is a Logitech G930. It's a wireless USB headset with microphone. My motherboard audio is Realtek HD Audio. Both are enabled but I only use the headset now and nothing is being sent to the Realtek audio chip (according to Windows' sound options). The headset plays audio at 16bit 48khz.
The video file plays fine in every media program I own that can play the h264 codec. With the exception of Movie Maker and Video Studio x6. Video Studio will preview the video and audio just fine but when I try and skip around the program hangs and crashes. Movie Maker just plain crashes when I try and import the video. Some of the programs that can play the video are VLC, Media Player 11, and Media Player Classic.
I'm not sure if Final Cut Pro has the same problem. I don't have a Mac so I can't test it.
Here's a sample video that works the way it should. I pulled a BIK file from a game and converted it to H264 in AVI. Not sure what it's audio format is.
    http://www.mediafire.com/watch/15fr85n78xfu94x/Opening_Cinematic_Placeholder.avi
Just click the download button at the top right.
Here's an afflicted file. Not the exact specific file I have been talking about, but it has the same codecs. This one is shorter in length and smaller in size. It still has the high pitch noise, but since there is no one talking in this you don't hear the weird low pitch distortions.

Just click the download button at the top right.
If there's anymore infor you need let me know.
    Thanks.

    >single AVI file. The video format is H264
H.264 will not work inside an AVI wrapper http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854115
-Insignia camera uses H.264 to either AVI... SOME to MOV wrapper
-so use the MOV wrapper if YOUR Insignia camera offers that option
-Says VLC will convert in reply #6 http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1172956
    >can't believe a professional piece of software can't handle something this simple
As Jim said, not within the design specifications because it is non-standard video

  • High Pitched Sound from X61 -- sent in for repair

So, since the very beginning of my Lenovo Thinkpad ownership I have experienced a high pitched noise when on High Performance battery power.
So I just switched it to Power Saver mode and forgot about it (Busy student, hard to find time to go weeks without computer)
So recently I sent it in to Lenovo. They replaced the motherboard and the hdd.
I recieved it today, only to find that it is still quite prevalent.
I'm wondering how many have went through the repair service for the same problem. Also, do they at the repair center just put parts in and hope it fixes it without checking?
I called and they told me it will be on escalated priority (has anyone ever been told this?) and the box will get here tomrw. Thankfully I live in Memphis where a repair center is right around the corner. (However, I go back to school the 14th)
They told me they will be replacing the fan. I'm no expert, but it doesn't sound like the fan. What can I expect from lenovo if they can't fix this problem?
    Thanks,

  • Logic 7 audio playing high pitched noise

    Hi Discussion Group.
I am having some major difficulties with LP7.0.1 (downgraded frrom 7.2.2 and was working fine with 7.2.2) and the motu 828 mkII that just crept up on his system today.
An audible high pitched noise when playing logic after initially starting 10 seconds after first play. Also after stopping playback the high pitched sound lingers.
Logic complains of sync problems between audio and MIDI.
All music is heard fine with iTunes. there is no other audio software playing at the time of logic playback.
Nothing has changed on his system to create this. before today everything was working fine. We removed everything from the firewire bus and only the MOTU is present.
playing logic fine out the built-in audio just fine.
Changing the clock mode to autosync does not help and iTunes stops working. internal works fine. Also setting the I/O buffer size to 32, 64, 128, 256, and 512 and relaunching the driver each time did not help.
    no MIDI card
Here are screen shots of his MOTU control panel and Logic Audio Drivers preferences
    http://www.enabled.com/~noah/MOTU/
Any clues on what else to try? I am at a loss here.
    cheers,
    Noah

I've heard of weird things like this happening to 828's before.
There is a reset procedure, either in the manual or on the Motu website - try running that and seeing whether it fixes it.

  • EMac high pitched noise

Hi. I have a 1GHZ eMac G4 that I got second hand several months ago. Recently, I've noticed that there is a high pitch noise that it makes when I first turn it on or wake it from sleep. This noise only lasts for a minute or so, but it is very high in pitch. I don't think it is the hard drive because I know what a failing hard drive sounds like, but I can't be sure. Could it possibly be a capacitor problem? Does anyone know of this issue and how I could get it resolved? Thanks.
