BIZARRE NOISE SOUNDING LIKE A GAME OF GUESS WHO ON MY KEY BOARD

hello all, this is my first post so please help me.  i have just picked up my mac to move it and a bizarre rattleing noise came from it like soemthing was sliding down behind the key board, like that noise you would hear if you were playing a game of guess who.  i thought it might have been a kirby or magnetic something stuck to the bottem but after very close insoection there is nothing at all on the outside that could be amaking this noise.
i am very precious with my mac and have never dropped it.
any advice or tips would be greatly apprciated

Yes it does.  Brighter is louder, dimmer is softer.
From other threads, I tried resetting the SMC by unplugging the power for a while.  This time, when I plugged the power back in, and turned on my iMac, the noise started immediately before the screen lit up.  Not sure what that means -- changing the brightness correlates with the noise volume does point to an LCD-related issue.
Thank you!!

  • Fan noise sounds like rattling. Intermittent

HI everyone, my iMac starting making what sounds like a rattle coming from the fan, I do not know which, but if you face the iMac it sounds like its on the left hand side. if you are playing a game or have multiple windows open and move the mouse or trackpad to move the window up and down the rattle gets louder. If you leave the window alone the sound fades to nothing. It's been sent off once to a company called opal, approved fixers. This was sent back to me after 2 wks with no fault found. Now it's doing the noise again. If I play any game via steam it comes back. I describe the noise as a bit of paper banging into a desk fan.
Any info would help, first time posting. Windows convert.

Welcome to the iMac Users Forum. It sounds like there could be something touching but the fans get louder at higher speeds. Here is a Widget that you can use to monitor fan spped, internal temps and a lot of other things:

If you had it worked on during warranty Apple may cover you as it wasn't fixed the first time around. It would be worth asking (not here) apple repairs support.

  • Computer noise-sounds like a fan of sorts, but computer isn't hot

I encountered this problem a while back, but it had stopped occurring until just recently. Almost from the minute I boot up, a whirring sound is heard, and it is loud. It's really bothersome while I try to take notes in a class. It almost sounds like it is trying to read a disc or something; however, no disc is inserted. Where top half of the MacBook meets the half with the keyboard, there seems to be hot air blowing out and is where the sound is most audible. If anyone has any suggestions about how to make this stop, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!
    Coco

Hi, coco. That's the cooling fan in your MacBook, transferring heat from the machine to the air that it's blowing through the machine. It's the reason your MacBook isn't hot. If you made it stop, the MacBook would be hot.
To reduce the buildup of heat that triggers the fan, quit any nonessential processes that are running (Dashboard widgets are particularly famous for wasting zillions of processor cycles) and/or use a less processor-intensive application for your note-taking.

  • Why are the noises like the lock screen noise sounding like a robot same with any other sound coming out the speakers

Every time noise comes out my ipad via ipad earphones or speakers it sounds horrible nothing like what it is ment to sound like

    Hi there Jamzog21_,
If I understand correctly your sound is not clear on your phone coming from the speaker. I recommend these troubleshooting steps from the following article:
If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker
Follow these steps and test the sound after each one.
Go to Settings > Sounds and drag the Ringer And Alerts slider to turn the volume up.
If you can hear sound from the speaker, then the speaker works. Continue with these steps to find the setting or switch that's affecting the sound. If you can't hear sound from the speaker, contact Apple Support.
Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is set to ring. If you can see orange, it's set to silent.
    Restart your device.
Open an app that has music or sound effects. Adjust the volume with the volume buttons or the slider in Control Center.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn off Bluetooth.
If there's still no sound, connect a headset. If you can hear sound through the headset, remove it and clear any dust or debris from the headset jack of your device.
If the device is in a case, make sure that the case doesn't block the speaker.
Use a brush to gently clear any debris from the speaker and Lightning connector (or 30-pin dock connector). The brush should be clean and dry and have soft bristles.
Update your device to the latest version of iOS.
If you followed these steps and still hear no sound or distorted sound, contact Apple Support.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

Yes, I know, but it works as always, there is nothing to make it better; cf Perian.
iStat Pro does not quite work "as always" with newer systems.
For one thing, it may report inaccurate temperatures (& possibly fan speeds), depending on the Mac model it is running on. (For instance, on my system, it tells me the ambient temperature is around 54° F in a room that is actually about 77°.)
The problem is basically that iStat Pro gets temperature & fan speed info by querying the SMC subsystem. Apple has apparently changed the query/response protocols or the SMC hardware itself, so this no longer works as the utility expects.
And Banjo is not as "safe" and digs too deep with core kexts.
Banjo is the new name for the same company that developed iStat Pro & the original & newer iStat Menus programs. My guess is that the latest version of iStat Menus is just as safe to use as the earlier ones.
However, I won't use it for the same reason I won't use MenuMeters: both rely on MenuCracker, a hack to work around Apple's restriction of menu extras to ones Apple develops & distributes as part of the OS itself. Developers are specifically told to use 'Status Items' for their menu bar add-ons, which offer some but not all of the same functionality as menu extras, & do not risk destabilizing the OS or compromising its security.

  • Everytime my phone vibrates it makes this loud noise from inside that sounds like a weird cracking noise or something help!!

Okay so I noticed a week or two ago that there was something lose on the inside of my iPhone 5s and ever since then when my phone vibrates sometimes there is this weird noise. It sounds almost like a cracking noise from the inside or a weird electrical noise. I think something is wrong with the vibrating part. Does anyone know if this is fixable or what it is?

Dear Mr. Toad (my all-time favorite ride at Disneyland ;-) ..
Thanks so much for your detailed reply.. my netbook is in the bedroom, turned off.. I (so far) only use it in the evening, in the bedroom.. I've saved your response, and will try your suggestions, and let you know if they solve the problem I described. I really appreciate you taking the time to post such a detailed reply..
I can't answer your Thunderbird "configuration" questions, because I'm in the living room, using the crap Vista laptop, on which I plan to install Thunderbird, and then take Windoze Mail out in the street and drive over it a few times.. I'll get back to you one way or the other, and let you know if your instructions solved the problem, or not..
I don't understand why Thunderbird "out of the box", so to speak, simply doesn't forward HTML emails with embedded graphics, (like Outlook Excess, and Winblows Mail do).. without having to go through those steps. I personally HATE HTML email, but over the years, it's become more and more prevelant.. so it's a problem I must fix..
    Thanks again..
    Harv..

  • What keeps making the cyclical noise while in sleep.  Sounds like iMac is loading a graphic or different screen.

What keeps making the cyclical noise while in sleep?  Sounds like iMac is loading a graphic or different screen.  Does it periodically while in sleep mode.  How do I correct this?  Just started doing it in the last few months.

I finally figured out how to fix this.  First I reviewed "Mac OS X: Why your Mac might not sleep of stay in sleep mode."  I noted the bullet:  "Do you have any other external USB or Firewire devices connected?"  I have an CP685AVR for a UPS for my Mac.  I replaced the battery a few months ago.  I also hooked up Apple's 'Energy Saver' power management software to the CP685AVR using the USB connection.  I disconnected it, and that solved the problem.  I still have the UPS and battery back-up; I just can't "monitor" the battery.  What's to monitor?  It always said the battery was 100% charged even right up to the time the previous battery failed.  Thanks for listening, uh... reading.

When I press slightly on either side of my macbook pro august 2011 trackpad or if I click the trackpad, I hear a light tick noise, sounds kinda like metal.  Anyone else have this problem? What is it?

It's a spring-loaded grounding contact between the top case/chassis and the bottom pan of the machine. When you press, it scratches against the inside of the bottom pan and makes the sound. It's completely harmless and doesn't indicate that anything is wrong, but it can be slightly annoying. A visit to a Genius Bar may result in quieting it partially or completely.

    Has anyone had this problem?

in the future, buy this, this is what the Pros use:
for drops, accidents, spills, loss, or theft, purchase a TYPE of insurance called "inland marine insurance"
roughly $30 per year for a device(s) with 0 deductible, used same for over 20 years, same insurance the pros use on their portable devices.
very cheap, very useful insurance, most people dont know about same.

  • Ok- I might need to be a bit more specific-- My MacBook Pro is suddenly making a whirling noise-- sometimes it's quiet but other times you can really hear it from across the room.  This just started happening-- it almost sounds like a tweeting noise --

I submitted a question last night but wasn't specific enough-- My MacBook Pro is suddenly making a whirling noise when it's on.  Sometimes it's  not too loud-- but other times it almost sounds like a tweeting--  there is nothing in the DVD/CD drive--   Is this something I should have looked at?

This is not normal. It is better to have it checked. Take it to the Apple Store.
    Best.

Is this thing a piece of junk?  My MacBook Air is running fine.  I've literally only charged the MacBook Pro battery a handful of times -- it's brand new.

At these prices don't screw around.  Just call applecare to arrange an appointment at the nearest apple store.
