Bizarre problem when skipping songs

Hi everyone,
first of all I apologize for my probably poor Engilsh, I'm Italian.
I own an old I-Pod classic 30Gb (firmware 1.2.1).
It has always worked fine until some days ago.
It started behaving in the way I'm going to describe.
I always listen to my 15Gb of music in shuffle mode, often at the start or in the middle of a song I decide to skip to the next one, because I'm not in the mood to listen it or whatever.
In these few years, when the song I skipped before shows up again in the shuffle mode, it has always started back from the beginning.
Now, instead, the skipped songs always start from the point in which I decide to skip them.
I know, I'm not very clear. I'll try to be clearer with an example.
- I listen to "Song number 1"
- at 0:48 I decide to skip "Song number 1"
- I shut off the I-Pod
- I reset and restart the shuffle mode
- "Song number 1" appears when it's its time and start from second 0:48 instead than from the beginning 0:00
The thing that amazes me is that it started doing that no more than a month ago.
Can you please help me shed some light on this issue? It is very annoing to have all these songs starting from a point in the middle or towards the end.
Thanks in advance for your time and attention.
Best regards

Hello Marqo,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I am not entirely sure on this one, but I have a feeling, the "remember playback position" option may be ticked for your music files within iTunes. To change this, locate each file, right->click (control->click on a Mac) on it and choose "Get Info" from the Shortcut Menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Options tab. Make sure there is NO check mark next "Remember playback position." Then hit OK when you are finished. Then sync the updated changes to your iPod.
Again, I don't know if this is really the issue, or I am forgetting some other option that may be causing this, but at least it's a good place to start.
Hope it helps.

When skipping songs, itunes saves the spot it was skipped at. So if I skip song A at 1:00, next time song A comes up in shuffle it plays from 1:00, not 0:00. How do I fix this?

That is a settable option for each song. Right-click, Get Info, and on the Options tab, uncheck "Remember playback position."
You can also highlight a bunch of tracks, or your whole music library, and change this option for all of them at once.

  • Volume Drops When Skipping Song (via Lightning Adapter)

I currently have an aftermarket iPhone connector in my car, to which I have attached a Lightning adapter.  On the road today, whenever I skipped a song (using the button on my car stereo), the volume dropped considerably for the next song.  Only when I used the "fast forward" button did the volume increase back to its normal level.  If I let the playlist go from one song to the next uninterrupted, the volume stayed as is.
Given the sequence of the events, I am assuming it is either the phone or Lightning adapter.  While I did a hard reset, I have not had a chance to test in the car again.  However, I do not experience the same issue with regular headphones.

Yes! Same problem here on two different iPhone 4s (mine and my wife's). If I watch the volume bar on the phones when I skip songs, it doesn't move, but the actual volume output drops to about half. Like the original poster, pause/play seems to fix it... until the next time I switch songs.
SoundCheck is off everywhere (phones and iTunes), so no help there.
Yet another reason to miss my 3GS, I guess...

  • Major problem. ipod skipping songs continuously

I have a refurbished 160 gig ipod classic, purchased within the last month or so. I was listening on shuffle at work today, it suddenly started freezing at 0:00 of a song. So I closed the playlist and shuffled again, all was well. Well a while later, it started doing it again, only this time it freezes on 0:00 for a while, then skips to the next song. It's not just certain songs. If I close out the playlist and start over it will play for a while... but it will start doing it again. Is this a firmware issue, or is the device defective? Thanks

forgot to mention that when it's skipping songs, the hard drive continuously makes a clicking noise. If i'm understanding this right, the hard drive must be going out, but what's weird is songs will play if I close out and start again, but only for a while....
Also, could someone tell me how to get the ball rolling, as far as sending this thing back?

  • Problem with skipping song in pandora

I was wondering if it is posable when my phone is hooked to my sterio and I'm playing pandora if I hit skip on stereo it changes it to my iTunes insted of skipping song only will skip song in itunes

Thank you for the replies. What was happening is that the other audio files were being onverted by PPPro. This one was not. I moved the file to the desktop and once again placed it into the project. This time the yellow conversion line on the bottom right corner went to work and it works fine. It was some type of glitch with that one file. Thanks again. Roman

  • Weird iTunes problem when a song ends.

Has anyone had this problem recently?
Ever since I installed iTunes 7, I began having two problems, one was the music sounding scratchy and stuff, but that is solved. My other problem might sound a bit confusing. When a song ends, it will say that it is still playing, and it will either say it has 1 second left in the song, or 0 seconds. It's not some huge issue but I can't stand it, because I have to select a different song in order for it to go away. This would only happen every once in a while though.
BUT, I have installed the most recent version of iTunes 7. Ever since I installed that, it became worse. Whenever any song ends, it does this. This is where it's getting to annoy me.
Is there anything I can do?

... frequently - one song will begin playing over another.
That is, the prior song will not have ended, and the
new song will begin to play. This lasts anywhere
from 3-25 seconds. This began when I moved to the
first 7.x upgrade, and has continued since then.
Have tried to unistall 7.x and reinstall the last
6.x version, but have been advised the song list was
created with a newer version and will not allow
    songs to play.
Is this discussion thread monitored by anyone from
    Apple?
I have this same problem. For me it is very specific and consistently repeatable. Today I bought and downloaded Beethoven's Diabelli Variations. This album is 34 songs (in iTunes terminology). The way Beethoven wrote it, some of the songs are supposed to have no delay between them, and most are supposed to have a short period of silence between them. The ones that are supposed to be played with no delay "step on" each other for 5 seconds. (The last 5 seconds of song A are still playing while the first 5 seconds of song B are playing.) Surely Beethoven groans in his grave whenever he hears this, because I sure do. It sounds terrible.

  • Remote problem - no skipping songs?

    hello all,
I've been really enjoying my dashy looking iPod Hi-Fi, but since I updated my iPod this afternoon I can't get the remote to work properly!
It still responds when I up/down the volume, but it won't skip any songs or jump to previous ones (the indicator does turn green though).
    Ideas anyone?

    Hello Destian,
It could be your iPod having the problem instead of HiFi.
I had the same experience with my 60G Photo but not my Nano when I plug it with my HiFi, until I did the Erase for my 60G iPod (under the disk utility)with the security option of zero out data, which took about 1-2 hours to complete. Now it works as a charm
If you have another iPod, you can have a try - to confirm whether it is the problem of your HiFi or your iPod.

  • Duplication Problem when importing songs

When ever I try and import songs via the "import folder" option it seems that the songs always have doubles which I have to go through and delete manually. I also want to point out that I consolidate my library to copy all imported songs to another location. But is there anyway I can fix this problem?

the thing is, I have an external hard drive which I use for all of my songs/videos/pictures and stuff like that. So I have itunes automatically copy all songs to a specific folder on my external, that way after it imports I have everything organized in that specific folder. It doesnt always duplicate songs like that...but when I import 200 songs at a time and it copies half of them, thats still 100 songs I have to go back and manually delete.

  • Volume increases when skipping songs

This volume phenomenon started after updating my iPod to iOS 5.1.
When I'm playing a song (let's use an example: "Some Nights" by Fun.) and I decide to skip to the next song (to "We Are Young" by Fun.), pressing the skip/next button will cause the next song to jump considerably in volume. It's as if I increased the volume about 20%! It's extremely odd and really annoying. The volume does not jump if you select the next immediate song from a track list (in the album, playlist, etc.), and is not affected by hitting the back button to go to a previous song. Also, volume will stay at the increased level if you continue to select tracks with the skip/next button. The volume returns to normal if you use the back button like I mentioned earlier.
While this doesn't necessarily affect the overall functionality of my iPod, it's severely annoying and scares the crap out of me when I'm sitting in my car and I decide to skip a song.
I kinda doubt there's an actual potential solution to this besides restoring or deactivating/reactivating Sound Check, but if there are any other people who are also experiencing this... then we can all suffer together!
p.s. I've dealt with this volume issue since iOS 5.1, but even after installing 5.1.1, the issue remains.

I have also noticed this same issue, too. I have actually been noticing a slightly different facet of it, though. For one thing, I am already aware that I (we) can adjust individual sound volume levels (under Settings, for each track). But what I've also noticed is, whenever I do this (lower the volume level for a particular track(s)), not only does the "new" setting not register until the track is played again, but in fact, I actually have to play a short part of the track, then forward to the next track in the playlist, and then go back to the previously adjusted track, in order to hear the drop in volume.
I am really getting tired of this. I am especially getting tired of having to adjust the volume on my iPod Touch (4th Gen --- with very high quality earphones) every few songs of a playlist. And, I also concur with the previous poster, who claims the sudden increase in volume destroys his eardrums --- mine too. I hate it. Apple, please get a FIX for this issue, ASAP!!!!!  It's (evidently) not just a few of us who are experiencing it, it seems to be everyone who has updated to iOS 5.1.1.

Hello, Robert, and welcome to the Discussions.
I'd suggest you try posting in the iTunes for Windows area. You'll be more likely to get a quick and accurate answer there than you will here in the iTunes for Macintosh forum.
    Good luck.

  • Phone disconnects from car Bluetooth when skipping a song on Spotify.

How's that for an oddly specific problem? Using a Samsung Galaxy Ace 3, Spotify and the car Bluetooth (Suzuki Swift, if that's relevant).  Phone connects to Bluetooth no problem.  To the problem: When selecting a song from a playlist or artist (I assume from anywhere else, but I haven't tried) the phone will disconnect from Bluetooth, Spotify will continue playing, silently, then the phone will reconnect, and start playing through the car speakers (already a few seconds progressed into the song).  The same issue occurs (disconnecting from Bluetooth, then reconnecting) a) when skipping songs (either through the car's Bluetooth controls, or manually on the Spotify app) and b) when the song reaches its end and naturally progresses to the next. Plot twist, though, if I pause the song, then skip to the next one, it will start playing the new song instantly, with no disconnect issue. I've tried this with other music playing apps (aka not Spotify) and the issue does not persist. EDIT: I've tried offline and online, problem persists for both. I'm sure you can imagine that this is an incredibly annoying issue, and I'd love any support you can offer. Especially given that mobile playing is 95% of the reason I'm paying for premium.

My itunes started skipping when a song is played.  Has a solution been fournd for this problem yet?

For the missing Artists on your iPod, make sure their tracks in iTunes are not marked as "Part of a compilation" in iTunes. You can do this by highlighting the track, right->clicking on them and choosing "Get Info" from the shortcut menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Info tab and make sure there is NO tick mark next to this option in the lower right hand corner. Lastly, sync the updated changes to your iPod.

  • ***New*** iTunes 7 skipping songs problem (2-3 seconds of play only)

    Hey all,
Long post here, but I hope you'll bear with me, as I reckon this is something of a new fault with iTunes 7.
Found a bug with iTunes 7 on my iPod Video which I don't see any references to from anyone else. (I presume I'm not alone, but I've Googled the **** out of this problem and no one else seems to specifically have it...)
Basically, with iTunes 6.0.5, all was well. For putting songs ONTO the iPod, I've been using Anapod Explorer for well over a year, again without any problems. (I don't usually keep much of a music library on the PC - it all gets stored on DVD-burned MP3 discs, so there is a backup, just not on the machine. For that reason, and for personal preferences with iTunes' own way of updating, I find Anapod's copy and paste approach to updating the iPod to be much handier.)
So, long story short, a few weeks ago I upgraded to iTunes 7. Left it a while longer than usual because I was burned by an earlier iPod software upgrade which stopped me from playing divx/xvid videos created using iPod Videora Converter - on that occassion, I had to pull the firmware BACK to what it was when I first got the iPod. Thankfully, whatever bug was in 1.1 in relation to home-created videos is no longer there, and 1.2 works perfectly well. The brightness feature is the main reason I risked changing the software again.
So you would have thought all would be well with the songs, then? Unfortunately not. iTunes 7, slick and all as it appears, seems to create a situation whereby, once I disconnect from iTunes, ALL songs suddenly only play for 1-3 seconds before STOPPING, with the 'playing' bar jumping all the way to the last second and holding there. Skip forward to the next song, and same thing!
This cannot be an issue in relation to Anapod, as it never affected iTunes seeing the songs updated to the iPod via that method before. What iTunes 7 does seem to have done, though, is prevent songs being played in the normal way by introducing this frustrating 'start, 3-seconds, stop' issue. It will eventually go to the next song after about 1-2 minutes of silence, and then the process repeats. Throughout all of this, the songs do play normally within iTunes 7(0.2) so it is not a hard drive or corrupt file problem.
I should say that this is not crucial or a desperate situation, as I've already found a way to fix it. Moving BACK to iTunes 6.0.5 (or any 6.x.x version) and playing a few songs within iTunes, and then disconnecting will miraculously return all the songs to the usual full playing ability.
Unfortunately for Apple, this means (for the second time in a year) that I cannot update to their latest release as it ruins the playability of my iPod. I would like the extra features in iTunes 7 (for playing songs on the computer - as I said I never used it for updating anyway), but this latest glitch means I'll be using the more stable and reliable 6 for some time to come.
What I'm curious from the good folks on the forums here is to see if any of you have heard of this exact problem until now, and if so, what solution anyone had to get around it (possibly including actually keeping iTunes 7!)
Thanks for the help. Sorry for the long post. It all seemed kind of necessary when I see so many posts about 'skipping songs' but never about 2-3 seconds worth of play (most usually say they get more than half way.)
