Bizarre Sound Distortion on Export - Not Newbie Compression issue

I'm trying out the Flash CS3 demo - OSX. (Using OSX 10.4.10.)
I've got a slightly complicated timeline with about 8 layers
and some things alpha fading in and out, and a bunch of sound
samples being used as timeline sound effects (forget the term, but
attached to frames not streaming). No scripting.
The sounds are mostly too long for the amount of time
allotted to them in the timeline, and cut previous sounds off. I'm
speculating this might be a possible issue. That is, I have say a 5
second sound, which has only 3 seconds of time to play, before
another sound interrupts it in the same timeline layer.
There are two separate layers of sound playing at the same
time.
All the original sounds are imported into the movie as
44.1/16bit AIFFs. They are mono files (might be another possible
issue).
I'm trying to export with quality of 128k MP3. I've been
trying different variations:
- setting the compression for the audio files in the
Library/setting movie export settings to use Library settings
- setting audio files in the Library to use "default
compression", and specifying the correct 128k MP3 setting in the
export settings
- or both of these (set individually in library, then
overridden in export settings).
I've tried with and without the "use mono" setting (both in
Library files and export settings). (This is a question for me:
what should be the correct setting for that when the original file
already is mono?)
Sometimes everything's great. I test or export the movie and
the sound is fine.
Other times I test or export the movie -- with exactly the
same audio settings as the last time when it worked -- and now get
unbearably hideous hissing/cracking instead of the correct sound.
Most dangerously -- I think but haven't quite convinced
myself -- the same flash export file may sometimes play fine, and
sometimes play with the distortion. So I'm not sure if this is an
export issue, Flash player issue, or combination of export doing
something semi-weird that the player only sometimes chokes on. A
"bad" export is distorted both in the desktop Flash player that
comes with the Flash demo, and in a browser with Flash plugin 9 r45
(OSX).
GUH!
And this is the $800 product which is little more than a
basic text editor for scripting and an animation timeline that
hasn't gotten updated functionality since 1999.

This is a peer-to-peer public forum - if you demand
individual and undivided attention to your issue
then you can use the official adobe tech support.
As for your issue...let's go step by step:
[*The sounds are mostly too long for the amount of time
allotted to them in the
timeline, and cut previous sounds off. I'm speculating this
might be a possible
issue. That is, I have say a 5 second sound, which has only 3
seconds of time
to play, before another sound interrupts it in the same
timeline layer.*]
Is this intended? You are having an issue with 5 second
sounds being cut off after 3 seconds...why
not place them on different layers to avoid this? I don't
understand the workflow here.
[*There are two separate layers of sound playing at the same
time.*]
Ok - that makes more sense, so you have 2 layers both
containing sounds that cut each other off?
[*All the original sounds are imported into the movie as
44.1/16bit AIFFs. They
are mono files (might be another possible issue).*]
Mono shouldn't matter - but the quality of the original will
matter - specifically the levels, if
the overall level is originally too high (or "hot"), then
clipping will occur once compressed from
Flash (in some cases).
[Sometimes everything's great. I test or export the movie
and the sound is fine.]
Can you provide the FLA?
[Other times I test or export the movie -- with exactly the
same audio settings
as the last time when it worked -- and now get unbearably
hideous
hissing/cracking instead of the correct sound.]
Never heard of this before - need to see the FLA.
[And this is the $800 product which is little more than a
basic text editor for
scripting and an animation timeline that hasn't gotten
updated functionality
since 1999.]
You may take exception to this but it sounds very much like
user error or something beyond Flash
(like an issue with the source audio files). Your opinion is
subjective but AS3, Flash, Flex is
hardly "little more than a text editor". True the timeline
hasn't changed much over the years but
funny that it is still the king when it comes to animation
across so many mediums - why fix what
ain't broken and works so very well for so many worldwide?

  • Sound distorted after exporting, but is fine in Premiere

    Hi,
The project sounds fine in premiere, (and yes, I checked to make sure it doesn't clip above 0db), but when I export it as an mpg, the mic'd track sounds distorted / a bit garbled.
The really curious thing is that sometimes if I export just the first minute, the problem track sounds fine...but for longer clips or the full movie, the track sounds distorted...including the same section at the beginning which sounded fine as a shorter clip.
Now I am using the dynamics effect on the problem track, but (1) it has worked fine in other projects, with exact same settings (2) it sounds fine in premiere (3) it isn't clipping according to the premiere level monitors.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?
    Screen shot of export settings:

I should also add that I am able to export the entire movie without distortion if I turn the dynamics effect off...However, the track really does need this effect, so I'd love to know why it's causing the problem. Again the stumper of why the effect sounds fine in a short clip, but that same section sounds garbled if it extends to a longer clip.

  • Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio: Many issues I have been faci

Hello everyone. This is my first post at these forums, with the hopes of getting my issues resolved once and for all.
First and foremost, let me inform you that I have very high experience with computer hardware.
A couple weeks ago, I bought a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio sound card from a local retailer. (Yes, I am aware that this is not an actual X-Fi card with the designated chip). I previously had an onboard sound solution on my motherboard, and uninstalled and removed all of the drivers COMPLETELY before I installed my new sound card. I then opened up my case, and continued with the installation of the card. After I had downloaded and installed all of the latest drivers, I immediately started to notice issues with the card. My MAIN problem is that if I have a specific application open, whatever it may be, one of my headphones, either left or right, will stop producing sound, and then is followed by the second one, which leaves me with no sound output at all. If I restart the application, the problem is temporarily fixed, but then comes back again within a few minutes.
This is VERY irritating to me, seeing as I originally thought the problem was not with the sound card. Believe it or not, I reinstalled my copy of windows over 5 times throughout the course of the last few weeks in hopes of finally fixing the issue. And here I am, on a brand new installation of windows, and the problem STILL persists.
I can assure you all of my hardware is functioning correctly as I have tried 2 other sound cards which have not had any issues like this whatsoever.
Yes, I have read the FAQ, but I couldn't seem to find the solution to my issue there, which is why I am posting it here. Sorry if I sound irritated, but this has bothered me very much and I have been starting to lose a lot of hope in Creative...
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you. I rang Vodafone and although they were not too technical - they suggested my speaker was broken and was probably interfering with the microphone sound out as well. So thank you for the clue - I must admit to not thinking of ringing my carrier supplier.  Thank goodness for two things - it is intermittent and I am due an upgrade phone in 6 weeks.  I can manage till then I hope with the watery sound from time to time.

  • Sound distortion in iTunes and not in other players

    Hello,
I've been experiencing some terrible sound distortion with iTunes that I don't have with any other player (WM player for instance).
I installed version 6 and this doesn't fix any issue.
This doesn't cause any problem when transferring files to iPod but still, have to be fixed!
Has anyone a clue or already fixed this in windows XP?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I have same problem with my iTunes 6.
You can try this(Helps for me):
    1. From the Start menu, select Settings and open the Control Panel
    2. Double-click the Multimedia or Sound, Speech & Audio devices icon,
    3. Select Sound and Audio Devices, click the Advanced Audio button
    4. Select the Advanced tab then
    5. Select the Performance tab and find the Hardware Acceleration slider control
hardware acceleration should be set at full.
sample rate conversion quality should be set at best.

  • Sound Distortion playing DVDs with Audigy2 Va

Last time I have problems playing DVD movies on my computer: The sound is distorted
by scratches like an old vinyl. I am using a SB Audigy 2 on Win XP. I have tried several software DVD players, reinstalled the old drivers from CD and cleanly installed teh newest drivers via internet auto update. I also tried to update my VIA chipset drivers, deactivated several background programs etc.
I found out that disabling the sound acceleration in DXDiag removes the sound distortion but then the sound (speech, effects) within a movie are extremly quiet compared to the music.
Another thing: First I deinstalled completely the software and drivers from my audigy to replace it with new ones. Then I had to notice that the new Audio Control Center does not support the option to send bass-frequencies to my subwoofer. I could set the speakers to 5. but had no chance to get my subwoofer working. At the moment I have status quo by using new drivers, but my old creative applications for configurating my speakers.

Ijust checked the preferences, go to Disc Setup and on the bottom in the Audio section, check off the box that says "Disable Dolby dynamic range compression" see if that helps.

  • Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro Sound Distortion + Full System Cr

    System Specs:
Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro running driver version 2.2.0002
    Pentium D 3.0 Ghz
    ASUS P5N32-SLI Deluxe Motherboard
    2 Gb PQI 667MHZ DDR 2 RAM
    XFX GeForce 7900GTX
I am a music producer/dj and use my sound card quite extensi'vely, since upgrading to Vista I have experienced more and more sound distortion as time goes on. The distortion mainly occurs in Direct Sound applications such as mp3 players (Winamp, Windows Media Player) as well as when playing compressed avi files which also utilise mp3 compression.
Using ASIO enabled production applications such as Fruity Loops Studio 7 does not cause as much distortion although it still occurs at some points resulting in a system freeze and a BSOD.
When distortion occurs sound becomes as what i can only describe as "computerized" and CPU usage goes up dramatically to the point where mouse movement on the screen becomes really jumpy if playing wave data this progresses until the system freezes if however I close winamp or another app playing direct sound CPU usage drops and system becomes stable again until an mp3 or any wave data is played again.
I have tried some of the possible solutions posted on these forums such as turning off enhancements such as CSS and changing the output quality but so far none of these have been successful.
I have managed to get everything else working fine in Vista apart from sound. If anyone has any recommendations as to what I could do to fix this problem it would be greatly appreciated.Message Edited by euphoria_aus on 04-03-200707:5 AM

    Decrip,
The lineouts on the card are functioning as long as digital output only is not enabled. So this should work.

  • No Sound on iTunes exports on Apple TV

So I finally got to use iMovie '09 yesterday, and really enjoyed the new features. I threw together a short film featuring my baby girl, and exported it, as usual, in large, medium, and mobile to iTunes and my MobileMe gallery. So far so good....
The movie plays just fine on MobileMe, on my iPhone, and on my MacBook Pro through iTunes. However, when played on my Apple TV there is no sound. Content exported from iMovie '08 plays just fine, as do movie and TV shows purchased/rented through iTunes. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I've not used this particular track, but none of the sound is playing, not just the music. Sound recorded by the camcorder is missing as well.
I'm using version 8.0.2 of iTunes and the Apple TV is running the latest firmware/software. Everything else on the Apple TV plays without problem. This includes rented HD movies, purchased TV shows, movies created in iMovie '08, music, and photos from Aperture. The first, and only, piece of content I've had issue with is the movie created in iMovie '09.

  • Sound Distortion AP 11 and 12.

I'm experiencing sound distortion and weak signal after AP upgraded to 11. I downloaded 12 and I still have the problem. Windows 7.

    AP?  You mean Flash Player?
12 is a beta, so it's not a good idea to use that to remedy playback problems as it's a test product.
Are you experiencing audio issues elsewhere? Windows Media Player, iTunes, Quick Time or VLC for instance?

  • Sound distortion in most recent episode of Lost

    Hi all,
the most recent episode of Lost plays on my Apple TV with really bad sound distortion starting from 4.23 and continuing to the end.
I have a series pass so the episode downloaded onto my Apple TV. The file that has synched with my Mac plays fine in iTunes. I've changed the sync options to remove that ep of Lost from the appletv and then synched back, but it still does it. The episode is Lost s6 e6 'Sundown'. Has anyone else had this issue? I don't want to watch it on my laptop, I really need it to work on the Apple TV!
    Thanks
    Caspar

Not the best solution, but at least you'll be able to watch this episode on the Apple TV.
    Either:
Switch Dolby Digital Out to Off in Apple TV's setting. The episode will then play the Stereo AAC track instead (which is fine, btw). Problem is, you'll have to switch Dolby Digital Out back on if you want surround sound back for other content.
    Or:
    Download an App called Subler.
Open the HD Episode of Lost in Subler.
You'll see that subler lists the video track and two audio tracks. The Digital surround track is not ticked, but this normal and is not the cause of the 'static problem'
Select the surround track and click the delete button.
Save the file and re-sync to Apple TV.
It will now play in stereo.

  • Having sound distortions in games with M-Audio Revolution 7.1

I'm having sound distortion problems with a couple of games. I think this started a few OS X updates ago, but not sure which one. Two known games are Quake 3 and Quake 4. When I run either of them, the sound is deep and distorted.
I'm sure an update of OS X broke m-audio's revolution driver. I currently have driver version 1.4.1. I only have distortions when sending sound output to my sound card. Sound sent to internal speaker comes out fine. I also tried with a freshly created user and freshly reinstalled driver & prefs. Same problem.
I've tried M-Audio's site with no luck for solutions. It's been a year or so since they have updated it.
Is anyone else having similar experiences with their M-Audio Revolutions?

  • Sound has no valid device sound path although exporting device sounds was requested in the export settings. This sound will be ignored.

I have bopped around the forums here for a while now, and while other people seem to have had the same problem as I am having in the past, I come to find that all of the solutions that have worked for others, do not in fact, work for me.
I am running Flash Professional CS6 On an Acer Aspire. 4 Gigs of RAM, 500 Gigs of HD.
The exact problem that I am having is as follows:
I record a sound bit in Audacity, Export the sound as and MP3 File on my main computer Hard Drive.
go to File>Import>Import to Library, I locate the file that I had created, then select it to be imported to my Library.
I then create a new layer in my timeline, Label it as sound, place a new key frame into the timeline layer at the place in the animation that i hope the sound would start, set the audio sync to stream instead of event, then press CTRL+ENTER, which initiates the Test Movie function.
At this time, the "Output" box Pops up and it states,
"Sound has no valid device sound path although exporting device sounds was requested in the export settings. This sound will be ignored."
No sound is played and i cannot, for the life of me, figure out why. I have tried all the troubleshoots that i can find online. I checked the publishing settings and nothing is being Overridden, I've attempted to untick the "export device sounds" option, but it is grayed out and cannot be toggled. I have attempted switching the MP3 format sound clip to a WAV format sound clip. I have attempted to re-recording the sound clip and re-importing the clip to the library. I have checked my computers speakers and everything is in working order and i have even checked to see if other projects sound works.
I pulled up a previous project that i had finished a while back that had loads of sound imported the exact same way and it all works exactly as i expect it too. The sound plays, there is not "Output" box claiming an issue. It seems that the issue, whatever it might be, is stuck to this project itself.
I have even started a new project, imported and placed both the MP3 and the WAV files into the sound layer created, CTRL+ENTER, and it works just fine without problem.
If there is anything that i might have accidentally messed up in this projected that you know about, like settings that may have been changed that would cause such an annoying and seemingly unfixable issue, please let me know. I really do not want to loose this project over such an utterly stupid error.

I've moved your question to the Flash Pro CC forum.

  • Why am I getting sound distortion when connecting iPad 2 to amplifier.

I am getting sound distortion when connecting iPad or iPod thru amplifier using AirPlay or 3.5mm to rca cables. Also the sound has far too much bass. No problems when connected in car.

It sounds like a mismatched impedence.  What are you connecting to?   the output from the jack is intended for headphones, and is not just an audio out.
Try turning the volume on the pad way down, and use the gain on your amp, and see if that minimizes the issue.
There is a pure audio signal for both channels on the 31 pin plug, but you would need a special cable to use it.  I would bet they are available if you google.  Although I have read that the 31 pin signal is not filtered like the headphone output, so while it is a pure audio output, there may be some noise in it that would need to be filtered.
Try google for a 31 pin cable.  ( the input for the car is probably built to take a signal from a headphone output, while your amp may be expecting a lower power signal)
