BizTalk 2010 Business Rule Composer possible bug...

****Initially i thought of writing this request, but I figured out what is the issue***********
When I am trying to access the business rule composer from the developer machine where the SQL server is configured on a customer domain, I am unable to use the Business Rule Composer.
I am using runas /netonly /user:<user id> to run the business rule composer so that I can pass the customer domain credentials.
The network credentails are successfully sent to the SQL server and I could see all the databases in the business rule composer dropdown.
But when I try to connect, i get an error saying "MachineName value <server>\<instance>, <port> is invalid"
when I try the same connection from a machine which is within the SQL server's domain it connects successfully (But i still get above error message, but it connects)
It seems there is a bug in the business rule composer GUI! and its related to network issue.
my colleague who is on the domain, doesnt gets this error message and he could able to connect successfully.
not sure what is causing the issue. any insight?!
its nothing to do with the network, domain...all systems has same issue when i check the "Start server if it is stopped" checkbox on the open rule store dialague.
I wont get the same issue in my local machine installation (where everything is local installation), but my development server installation has this issue.
Please let me know if anyone has same issue and what is causing this error?! is it the user dont have access to start the sql service?!
Thanks,
Suresh

Hey Suresh,
Did this same configuration work on BizTalk 2009? Sorry, I had not tried this before.
I would be glad to report the issue on the BizTalk 2010 Connect site. I know someone else reported an issue with the Business Rule Composer although I am not aware of any changes made to this tool for the BizTalk 2010 release.
Thanks,

  • Cannot find Business Rule Composer!

    Hi All,
    I was able to install Biztalk Server 2006 R2 successfully on Vista. But I am unable to see 'Business Rule Composer (BRC)' when I follow the below steps:
    Start >> All Programs >> Microsoft Biztalk Server 2006 >> (Business Rule Composer)....not able to find this!!!
    I even checked in Biztalk server 2006 configuration window and can see all the components (alongwith BRC) with green check mark. Please help me on how & from where to open it. Thanks in advance.
    Nitya.

    Hurraaaayyyyyy!!!!!  Its done now.
    Ben Cline:
    I checked for the exe within the path you specified but I did not find it.
    Kent Weare:
    I have checked in SQL Server for "BiztalkRuleEngineDb", it was already there, configured.
    Richard C S:
    When I tried to modify the installation, I found that the Business Rule Composer(BRC) checkbox was unselected. I selected that box and proceeded further, It was all installed properly.
    Many thanks to you all for your valuable inputs. Microsoft forum simply ROCKS!!! :-)
    A question to you all, if I missed selecting BRC during my initial installation, then how come it was showing as configured in Biztalk server 2006 configuration window and also the "BiztalkRuleEngineDb" in Sql server???

  • How to create rules in business rule composer?

    for
    1.Id type cannot be null
    2.Id type = Identity Card then
    Insured_Id length should  equal to 13.

    Create a new
    version of vocabulary.
    Right click on vocabulary to create a new definition.
    Select the appropriate type of definition. May be in your case it from Xml Document Element or Attribute
    Create another definition for
    Insured_Id length. I assume it’s an element name to which you want to set the value as 13. Not that you want to set the property- length of the element to
    Insured_Id.
    Publish the
    vocabulary.
    Then create a condition as similar to the image shown below.
    Also I would recommend you to go through the BRE-tutorial to learn about creating
    vocabulary and rules.

  • Why to use business rules in biztalk or is there is any alternative to using vocabularies in biztalk?

    Thanks in advance

    Business rules framework: Organizations may need to process information differently depending on the data submitted. In the case of BizTalk, information is submitted
    via a message, and data within that message may require special processing once it has been received by an orchestration. The orchestration must be able to determine what that data is and how to process it. Additionally, rules around how that data is interpreted
    may change at any given time, even after the solution is in production. For example, a rule may be required that allows processing messages as long as a specific field has a value less than 10, but must stop processing and notify an administrator when this
    value is equal to or exceeds 10. The ability to store and access such a rule and to make it available for customization through a user-friendly interface is provided by the BizTalk business rules framework.
    Vocabularies: They are specific to
    business rules framework. These consist of all defined values that you can use when creating
    a rule,  including constants, predicates, XML nodes, and so on.
    The terms used to define rule conditions and actions are usually expressed by domain or industry-specific nomenclature. For example, an e-mail user writes rules in terms
    of messages "received from" and messages "received after," while an insurance business analyst writes rules in terms of "risk factors" and "coverage amount."
    Underlying this domain-specific terminology are the technology artifacts (objects, database tables, and XML documents) that implement rule conditions and rule actions.
    Vocabularies are designed to bridge the gap between business semantics and implementation.

  • Business Rules Engine (BRE) is this really a true business user's tool?

    The primary need for business/information/non-technical users is to be able to create, edit, delete, enable, disable rules once developed (vocabulary) & deployed by the developer. Is it possible? If possible then how &
    by using which tool or UI of Biztalk server?
    For the batch process, if each input record from flat file can be match with the 50 million records in Sql server, then what would be the performance?

    What all needed at client machine to make use of Business Rules Composer for 10 machines?
    Non-technical users is able to create, edit, delete,
    enable, disable rules using Business Rules Composer, is it possible?

  • Is it possible to use "not" logical operator in a Business Rule Condition?

    This seems like a very simple request to me, but I cannot see any other questions/answers about it.
    Can I add a "not" to my Conditions in a Business Rule?
    My scenario is that I have a core Entity with a Type.  The Type is a domain attribute with a Code and Name.  The Code of the core Entity should in the form 'AA-9999', where 'AA' is the Code from Type.
    The idea is that I have a business rule with the condition "not
    Code starts with DBA.Type.Code" and the Action would be "Code is not valid".
    Is this possible?  Is there a better way of implementing this?
    Thanks,
    Michael

    Yeah! This is the board in question! But it has lots of versions, like K7T Pro, K7T Pro2 (my one!), K7T Turbo, K7T Turbo Limited Edition and K7T Turbo2, all of then are WS-6330 Lite...   They phisically diferent, but the BIOS seens to be the same... I want to know is this feature in the newer version is going to work or not on my board (MS 6330 Lite K7T Pro2 Ver:1) ....
    Doesn´t matter what board you choose (PRO, PRO2, Turbo, Turbo2) the MSI page shows all the same BIOS to Download... But I think that this feature is only applicable for K7T Turbo2, but will make no difference in my! At least that´s what I think...
    But you´re right! The board that I have is the one on the link you said!
    Thanks!

  • How to view or Edit Business Rules in SOA Composer

    HI,
    We have a requirement to use Business Rules with OSB. We have OSB 11.1.1.5 installed in Clustered environment. Installed SOA composer patch on top of OSB 11.1.1.5. I have createed and deployed the sample Business Rules WAR/SAR targeted it to Admin Server. I could able to open Business Composer URL. Though unable to see any Rules. Nothing is available in Composer. I have privilege as "Admin".
    In Server --> Deployments --> Composer war is active.
    What else I need to check to view the Business Rules in Composer! Please let me know quick remedy to overcome!

    Don't know much about SOA Composer (sorry - you've hit the BPM forum), but you should be able to see the business rules from the Oracle BPM Composer. If you've installed BPM, go to http://xx:####/bpm/composer and you'll see business rules after poking around a little. Let me know if you need more help finding them.

  • Is it possible to have business rules as a table

    Hello Friends,
    I have an application where in which I had altogether some x procedures, y fucntions and z triggers .
    Right now I have implemented all the business rules in the procedures, triggers , and fucntons. Is it possible to have
    the implementatkon of business rules as a table so that i can use the table as a rules engine .
    I have done with java technologory usaing the business rules as a seperate external file and reading the file for business rules. How about oracle is it possible. If yes can any one give a scenario how i can implement.
    thanks/kumar

    As posted, your whole procedure could be replaced with:
    procedure update_paycheck_deductions is
       cursor c1 is select * from MINC ;
       cursor c2 is select * from FINC ;
       v_flag_boolean boolean := false;
       v_famid number ;
    BEGIN
       for i in c2 loop
          for j in c1 loop
             if ( i.famid = j.famid ) then
                v_flag_boolean := true;
                v_famid := j.famid;
             end if ;
          end loop ;
          if ( v_flag_boolean = true ) then
             update FINC set famtfedx = 0 WHERE famid = v_famid ;
             update FINC set fgovretx = 0 WHERE famid = v_famid ;
             update FINC set fpripenx = 0 WHERE famid = v_famid ;
             update FINC set frrdedx = 0 WHERE famid = v_famid ;
             update FINC set fsltaxx = 0 WHERE famid = v_famid ;
          end if;
          v_temp_sum_anfedtx := 0;
          v_temp_sum_angovrtx := 0;
          v_temp_sum_anprvpnx := 0;
          v_temp_sum_anrrdedx := 0;
          v_temp_sum_ansltx := 0;
       end loop;
    end;Since none of the j.column != null and predicates will ever be true. This is roughly equivalent to your code:
    SQL> WITH t AS (
      2     SELECT 10 amount, 'Y' col2 FROM dual UNION ALL
      3     SELECT null, 'Y' FROM dual UNION ALL
      4     SELECT 25, 'N' FROM dual)
      5  SELECT amount, col2, CASE WHEN amount != NULL and
      6                               col2 != 'N' THEN amount
      7                          ELSE 0 END eval_amount
      8  FROM t;
        AMOUNT C EVAL_AMOUNT
            10 Y           0
               Y           0
            25 N           0This would simplify Toon's merge statement to:
    merge
    into FINC f
    using (select distinct j.famid, 0 amount
           from MINC j) m
    on (f.famid = m.famid)
    when matched then
    update set f.famtfedx = m.amount
              ,f.fgovretx = m.amount
              ,f....      = m.amount
              ,f....      = m.amount
              ,f....      = m.amountWhich could be further simplified to:
    update finc
    set famtfedx = 0,
        fgovretx = 0,
    where famid in (select famid from minc)Whiich strikes me as an odd business rule, specially for one dealing with (apparently) payroll.
    I won't go into the fact that you will scan every record in once for every record in minc. I hope these are not large tables.
    I have seen a number, and even worked on a a couple of payroll systems based on "business" rules in tables to avoid putting the rules in code. None of them were very good and perfomance tended to lag when there were more than a few people to pay.
    You need to explain a lot more about what sort of business rules you want to put into tables.

  • Excel 2010 locks up when using Smartview to run Business Rule

    I've been testing Smart View 9.3..3 with Excel 2010.
    If (from within Smart View) I navigate to Hyperion>Calculation Options>Business Rules, Excel locks up and only an 'End Process' will close it down.
    As a workaround the Rule that the user needs to run has been attached to a Form & this works correctly, wondered if anyone else had seen this ?

    re:  more excel crashing
    Well you asked about other ideas so...
    1. Turn off Auto-Save
    2. Turn off file-sharing
    3. Locate the XLSTART directory, move everything there someplace else.
    4. You disabled all add-ins, but does that include Com add-ins and the other flavors.
    5. Does the user have an anti-virus app installed - disable it.
    6. Doug Robbins (Word MVP) has an exhaustive list of problems/solutions for crashes in Office 2013.

  • Is it possible to limit FX business rule to only records selected in logic

    We are trying to convert from the standard older FX logic (MULTICURRENCYTRANS). The business rule is definitely faster when I run FX over all the records (purposefully). However, every time the FX stored procedure is called from a script logic file (package) it is running over ALL the records for the category specified in the package selection criteria. However, it is ignoring the other selections (product in this case). It should only update FX for the records specified in the package selection criteria. Because of this we are seeing increased run times on the packages. Is there additional logic needed in the FX script? If this is normal behavior, the stored procedure/business rule for FX is not a feasibly replacement for the script logic FX process previously delivered by SAP.
    Is there a way to fix this so we can use the business rule?

    I figured it out. I needed to add a couple of dimensions that are being passed from the package front end. The delivered business rule only has category as a variable. I had to add our entity dimension and our user defined product dimension.
    SAP delivered:
    *RUN_STORED_PROCEDURE=SPRUNCONVERSION('%APP%','%CATEGORY_SET%','','RATEINPUT','%SCOPETABLE%','%LOGTABLE%')
    Revised for our installation:
    *RUN_STORED_PROCEDURE=SPRUNCONVERSION('%APP%','%CATEGORY_SET%','%PRODUCT_CP_SET%','%COCODE_SET%','','RATEINPUT','%SCOPETABLE%','%LOGTABLE%')

  • ODI and Oracle Business Rules

    Hi, I have a question that hopefully someone can give light to.
    Our current requirement for an ODI solution is to have business users create or edit rules (not just table constraints, but actual complex business process rules) that they would like to apply to the data during integration. I was thinking of two possibilities for this:
    1. Load a rule file in ODI and then execute the rules in ODI.
    2. Use Oracle Business Rule.
    Between the two options, which is most likely possible? I have yet to fully explore ODI so I'm not sure if both of these options are feasible. If not, can someone give me sound ideas to work on for this requirement?
    Thanks,
    Jason

    Melli,
    I just started with semantic so won't have many useful ideas for at least some time.
    mostly there will be bugs and misunderstanding on my part.
    At this point i do see that the supplied library is not working properly . see my other thread. Fixing that would be really helpful.
    Let me know
    As of Composer - well let's just say its cost ineffective for organization to use on pilot project..
