BizTalk and Azure

hi,
For one of our client we are designing an integration solution with BizTalk Server 2013 R2 and need help to design (with best
practices) corresponding into Azure.
Need help on what we need to consider while moving an existing application/infrastructure  to Cloud.
Need help on which approach we should go with as IAAS or PAAS.
Regards, Amit More

HI Amit,
According to your description above, if you want to move an existing application/infrastructure to Azure, you need use IAAS, and you can consider using the Azure BizTalk service, or you can also use the server build-in Azure.
Best regards,
Angie

  • BizTalk 2013 Azure VM (IaaS) High availability

    Hi,
    We have a 2 BT , 1 SQL configuration for the BizTalk Environment. BizTalk 2013 VMs and SQL 2012 VM provisioned from the gallery.  Since there is a limitation on having a highly available SQL tier (for BizTalk) on Azure, we are evaluating a possible
    replacement of the Azure setup with a on-premise setup which will guarantee highly available environment(as the SQL tier will be highly available too and with the SSO service). Wanted to know your thoughts on the below topics.
    1) Is the BizTalk 2013 Azure (IaaS) used widely in production scenarios today (given the limitation for HA). If yes, what could be the mitigating solution
    2) Is the roadmap for Microsoft (BizTalk Server related) going to address this scenario.
    Appreciate your inputs in this regard which would help us to make an informed decision to switch back to on-premise.
    Thanks,
    Ujjwal
    -Ujjwal

    Theoretically since SQL Always-ON or database mirroring is not supported with BizTalk, SQL Server Azure virtual machines do not support Failover Cluster Instances.
    But ensure by selecting “Availability Set” your virtual machine will be deployed to different fault domains and update domain thus ensuring that your application is available during network failures, hardware failures, and any planned downtime. This increases
    the case of server/service high availability. And with these features unavailability of the server in Azure is very less.
    But if you’re one of those customers you still want to ensure they don’t let any chance of failure (or don’t afford for any failure) and still look to implement failover Cluster Instances, then simple answer is SQL Server Azure virtual machines do not support
    Failover Cluster Instances. If you ask about mitigation plan, then ensure you have selected “Availability Set” while provisioning the servers.
    To answer to you couple of specific questions:
    1) Is the BizTalk 2013 Azure (IaaS) used widely in production scenarios today (given the limitation for HA). If yes,
    what could be the mitigating solution - Ican't
    answer BizTalk as Iaas is widely used, this question has to be asked to Microsoft directly. And regarding the mitigation plan, as mentioned provisional your server across fault
    domains and update domain minimize the down time or increases the high availability.
    2) Is the roadmap for Microsoft (BizTalk Server related) going to address this scenario.   -  As of now SQL Always-ON or database mirroring are not supported for BizTalk and roadmap remains same.

  • Biztalk and whitespace preservation

    I am having issue with BizTalk SOAP adapter calling web service and non whitespace preservation in outgoing message.
    Below is message which going from BizTalk to a web service, please note Field2 is having blank space.

    </ns0:Root>
    I have examined tracked message in send port (after request message after port processing) in BizTalk and message in  having Field2 with blank space but when message hits wire Field2 is without blank space(empty node) which I have examined with help of Fiddler.
    I have tested Send Port with configured as pass through pipeline and XML Transmit.
    How can stop this behavior in BizTalk not ignore blank space in xml elements?
    Thanks for help.
    Thanks,
    Kishore Menta

    hi Kishore,
    How were you able to add the xml:space .. when I add it in my schema of my BizTalk project.. it says.. it cannot be added there.
    To give the complete context.. we were supposed to interact with a service which has a legacy app and needs a fixed length data in few of the fields.. When we are putting in the spaces in the xml, it is getting lost when going thru the map.
    We are trying to avoid any Registry setting (related to LegacyWhiteSpace .. which specified in some other post), since it would affect the entire BizTalk environment and we are not sure what all flows might break.
    If I say that I want sname to retain space characters in the below.. what are all my options.. what changes in the schema.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?>
    <xs:schema xmlns="http://SpaceTest.SampleStudent" xmlns:b="http://schemas.microsoft.com/BizTalk/2003" targetNamespace="http://SpaceTest.SampleStudent" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
      <xs:element name="SampleStudent">
        <xs:complexType>
          <xs:sequence>
            <xs:element name="sno" type="xs:string" />
            <xs:element name="sname" type="xs:string" />
            <xs:element name="marks" type="xs:string" />
          </xs:sequence>
        </xs:complexType>
      </xs:element>
    </xs:schema>
    We are using BizTalk 2010.. and probably no cumulative updates on it.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Mobile Phone App and Azure MFA Server

    I currently have directory sync enabled between my on-premise AD environment and Azure Active Directory, and also enabled multi-factor authentication on my profile. I installed PhoneFactor on my mobile device and am able to use it to verify my identity when
    logging into my O365 OWA account.
    I recently installed and configured the Multi-Factor Authentication Server to enable RADIUS requests for VPN connections, and have successfully tested MFA using the phone call method (when I connect via VPN client, I provide credentials, and receive a call
    to verify my identity, press # and connection is accepted).
    What am having trouble doing is using the mobile app as a method for verification. When I try to connect, I immediately receive 'Login Failed,' and there are no indications in PhoneFactor for an authentication request.
    In the MFA Server logs, I see two entries:
    No device configured for user '[email protected]'
    PfAuth failed for user '[email protected]'. Call status: SKIPPED_USER_INCOMPLETE - "User lacks information required for phone auth".
    I have read guidelines on creating a user portal within my network for self-registration, but I was hoping I could just use the Azure-provided portal.
    Anyone have any ideas why this may be happening?

    At present, the MFA Server user enrollment is completely separate from Azure AD. If you want to use the mobile app with the MFA Server, you need to install the User Portal so that users can generate activation codes and set their MFA method to mobile app.
    Also, for users to activate their mobile apps, you have to install the Mobile App Web Service, which communicates with the MFA Server via the Web Service SDK to validate the activation code generated in the User Portal. Here are links for installing the User
    Portal and Mobile App Web Service.

  • Setting AD FS and Azure trust, existing CRM deployment

    We're using an ADFS server with an additional WAP server for an on-premise deployment of CRM 2013. We're in the process of implementing Windows Intune and would like to leverage our existing servers. When going through the steps to set up a trust between
    AD FS and Azure AD (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj205461.aspx) we ran: New-MsolFederatedDomain –DomainName but received:
    New-MsolFederatedDomain : The domain already exists as a standard authentication domain.  To convert the domain to identity federation, use convert-MSOLDomainToFederated.
    My questions is will using Convert-MsolDomainToFederated –DomainName <domain> in any way affect our existing on-premise deployment of CRM (I'm not sure what exactly it does)? Is there anything we need to consider so that it does not?

    Hi,
    For this issue, i think you may ask in Azure Active Directory forums:

  • How to set a thumbnail photo in Azure AD? Sync thumbnail photos between Exchange Online and Azure AD?

    We're interested in downloading the thumbnail photo for users in an O365 tenant using the REST API, but we're stumped regarding how to set a thumbnail photo for a user in Azure AD.  We haven't found a way to do it via the user interface and it doesn't
    appear to sync between Exchange Online and Azure AD.  The only sync reference we've been able to find is between Windows Server AD and Azure AD which is not applicable in our use case?
    Any pointers on how to get the thumbnail photo set?

    Greetings!
    You may use the sample (Malar has shared above) which helps how to query Azure AD using the Graph API, demonstrates additional REST functionality to Get and Set User Details, including thumbnail photos.
    Would like to add:
    http://matthewyarlett.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/add-or-update-user-profile-picture.html
    You can use the AD module for PowerShell for getting / setting the AD user.
    Would like to re-iterate that there are constraints on the sizes and formats supported for the
    thumbnailPhoto Active Directory attribute. As a general guideline, keep your images to 96x96 pixels and under 10Kb, using JPG format.
    Thank you,
    Arvind

  • Is "sp_purge_data" available only to datawarehouses or can it be used with both a normal database and Azure storage as well ?

    Is "sp_purge_data" available only to datawarehouses or can it be used with both a normal database  and Azure storage as well ?

    Thank you for the reply Qiuyun , the article was really helpful!
    I do have couple of other questions for you :
    How do we execute our SQL queries on Windows Azure tables and create horizontal partitions ? (I know that we have our SQL Server management Studio to execute normal queries on a SQL database , do we have a similar platform for Azure or do we have to get a local
    copy of the database to execute our queries and the  publish everything back to Azure)? I am looking to partition data on one of our databases and would like to know if it can be done in Azure directly or if we have to bring a local copy down ,write the
    partition function and
    and partition scheme or create a partition key and a row key - do the needful and publish it back to Azure?
    Also, how do I create a partition key and row key in Windows Azure?
    I am in the process of designing data archiving strategy for my team and would like to know more about the questions I just mentioned.
    Hoping to hear back from you soon.
    Thanks in advance for all the help!

  • BizTalk and Ws-ReliableMessaging

    Hi guys,
    I am having difficulty finding details on how/if BizTalk 2006 R2 supports ws-reliablemessaging or Ws-Reliability.
    Could someone provide details?
    Further, for other WS-* standards, where can I find out what is supported by BizTalk and how they are implimented?
    Kind regards
    TM

    Since BizTalk 2006 R2 can use WCF, it supports WS-ReliableMessaging, as documented here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa480191.aspx. As for other WS-* standards, much of this was implemented in WSE and then in WCF. An overview of WCF mentions its support for WS-*: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms731082.aspx. WS-Security and some other ones are described here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms788756.aspx.

  • BizTalk vs azure biztalk services

    Hi,
    Good Day.
    I am working on BT2013 R2 applications. Now started to look in to azure BT Services. I understand its kind of cloud services with (IAAS/PAAS). I google it and found some thing.
    Is there any good material for getting knowledge of azure service bus and what is the difference between BT 2013 & azure service bus (BT Service ).
    Thanks,
    Vinoth

    Thanks  Arindam.
    I go through the URLs and below high level of understanding.
    - All the capabilities of BizTalk Services are integrated into App Service as API Apps enabling users to perform enterprise application integration and B2B integration scenarios with any of the app types in App Service
    - With Logic Apps you can now automate business processes using a visual design experience to create workflows
    so the combination of API & Logic Apps we can enable the integration in cloud.
    Basically I am just doing some case study of how to move BT2013 R2 App to BT Services. I Hope the URL would be the good starting point to get understand the concepts of Azure Services
    Thanks,
    Vinoth

  • Remote App and Azure VM

    Hi All.  I have a scenario that I wanted to throw out there to see if anyone has either implemented something familiar or whether or not it can be done at all.
    I have a small dental practice who is in the process of opening up a couple new remote locations.  They've expressed interest in moving their key LOB (the Practice Management solution) to the cloud and accessing that solution as a published application.
    With that in mind, I'm looking to possibly:
    1.  Spin up a new VM in Azure, utilizing recommended specifications provided by LOB vendor.
    2.  Use the new Azure RemoteApp to publish said LOB to all end-users.
    Can this be done?  Has anyone else implemented a similar scenario?  I know you can utilize RemoteApp in a Hybrid scenario that would allow you to publish apps that tie in to internally stored servers, databases, etc.  I just can't seem to
    find anything that highlights actually tying RemoteApp in to a solution already housed in the Azure VM environment.  My assumption here is that it can be done, was just hoping to get some valuable feedback from those that have experience doing so.
    Thank you in advance.
    CM

    Hi,
    Yes, it can be done--I have done it.  The key is to connect your RemoteApp Virtual Network (VNet) to your Azure VM VNet.  The article below shows how to configure the VNet to VNet connection:
    How to link Azure RemoteApp to an existing VNET
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2014/07/21/how-to-link-azure-remoteapp-to-an-existing-vnet.aspx
    I recommend you place your RemoteApp collection in the same region as your Azure VMs to minimize latency.

  • How do I map a local windows 7 machine to and Azure Share?

    I have 15 physical Windows 7 machines with that I want to access a file share in Windows Azure.  How do I do this?
    daveeeeee

    Hi
    daveeeeee,
    Azure File Share can be access from a Local computer using Rest APIs, whereas, SMB protocol only allows the access of Azure File Share within the same region in Azure.
    You could refer the following link for further details:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/windowsazurestorage/archive/2014/05/12/introducing-microsoft-azure-file-service.aspx
    You could use the Rest APIs or AzCopy to
    transfer data to and from Azure File Share.

    Malar.
