BizTalk Developers training kit files

Hi All,
I am trying to learn Biztalk on my own and was wondering if anyone has downloaded the developers training kit. My issue is that I want the Lab files in the AllFiles folder. Would appreciate if someone can tell me where I can download just those without having
to download all the vhd files and expanding them.

I want these files because I have a virtual server and I don't know if I can install HyperV server on a virtual server and run the lab files.

Hi Manish,
I am not really clear on your question. But you have several choices to run virtual machines. 2 popular choices are the following:
1. Create the virtual machine instance directly from the VHD file you download from Microsoft but for that you need Windows Server with Hyper-V.
2. If you don't have that version of Windows, you can use VMWare to run your virtual machine. VMWare has 2 free products for your scenario:
- VMWare player to create and run Virtual machines on any Windows client (ie Windows Vista, 7 which might be your case): http://www.vmware.com/products/player/overview.html
- VMware vCenter Converters which can convert VHD disks into vmdk (format used by VMWare player): http://www.vmware.com/products/converter/. There is another
tool I also know of to convert vhd files which is: http://www.starwindsoftware.com/converter . And there are probably others you can find on the internet as well.

I m trying to configure BizTalk ESB tool kit 2.2.
In the configuration we have File Counfiguration source or SSO Configuration source. As per the below blog

1. We having the BizTalk VM and SQL Server as a Remote machine, in our case do we need to go with the File or SSO configuration.
2. What is the use of the Configuration (File and SSO COnfiguration)?
3. If i go with SSO configuration i am getting below error :
Error: Exception calling "PushAllConfiguration" with "6" argument(s): “Unrecognized element 'typeConfig'. (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft BizTalk ESB Toolkit\esb.config line 151)”
I find the error in the Microsoft blog but dont know how to change the TypeConfig:(
Please let me know which configuration i need to select and resolution for the above issue.

I configured SSO Configuration Source because for multi environment we need to use the same.
Follow the instruction in the below blog and Replace the Resolver as it is in the blog. Then it will configured successfully.

Trouble installing another instance; working through 70-463 Training Kit

I downloaded an evaluation copy of SQL Server 2012 from Microsoft and have been working through 70-463 training kit. Everything has been going well, I am now on Chapter 11.
The practice in Chapter 11 ask me to install another instance of SSIS that will be my SSIS Server.
I open the SQQL Serer Installation Center, click on "New SQL Server stand-alone installation..." A dialog box opens asking me to browse to Installation media on my file system.
I have no idea where the installation media would be, I thought it was on the Microsoft site??? But I can't browse to an internet site from this dialog.
Was the media downloaded somewhere on my PC? I looked in my downloads folder but saw nothing... except my copies of adventure works data files.
Need to deploy to this new instance in the next practice too..
If anyone could help me solve this problem, it would be much appreciated..
I would think it is possible or I am doing something wrong, otherwise they would not have added ths practice to the book.

Mike: I guess you opted to open it versa saving it 1st, well download it again. It must has been placed into the temp directory %temp% (type in DOS window) and sort by date. But it might be gone by now as well.

Biztalk 2013 to pick files from webdav

Hi Guys,
Can anyone let me know whether Biztalk 2013 will work with webdav to pick files? I am thinking to use webdav and host an endpoint in IIS to store the files created by different applications. The reason would be just to avoid sharing of windows file paths
and use a consistent authentication mechanism at the IIS level.
So if any application puts a file in to the webdav, Can we configure Biztalk to pick those files? If so, do we get same message context properties as FILE adapter?

Hi Janardhan,
Before I validate this approach of using WebDav as file share for BizTalk, let me just answer your question directly.
While configuring WebDav, you would create a file share for WebDAV and map this file
share to your virtual directory. And if you want to use WebDav as file share (for files created by different applications) then you can use BizTalk file adapter to access the files, so in this case since you have used the File adapter you will have file adapter
related context properties to the message published in to BizTalk message box db. You have to ensure, BizTalk host instance’s credentials uses by the file Receive location to pick the files from file share of WebDav has access to receive the files.

But instead of considering this option did you consider the following options through which you can still control the access at IIS level.:
BTSHTTPReceive.dll:
You can configure virtual directory with BTSHTTPReceive.dl in IIS.

BizTalk listens to this URL and, through the use of BTSHTTPReceive.dll and the HTTP receive adapter message posted to this URL is passed to the BizTalk MessageBox

You can build a single schema that has a child node of type “any.” Then, you can use the “publish schemas as WCF service” option of the publishing wizards to create a general
purpose service which can be used to receive different types of message from different applications. Here different application/customer client call this WCF service upload their data document in the <Any> section of the schema, If you’re using
WCF receive locations, you can always strip out the wrapper node before publishing to the MessageBox.

I would certainly consider other option before using WebDav as file share for BizTalk to process the file.
The above methods are suggested since you want to control the access level at IIS, other obvious options are FTP..

Create MS SQL Server 2014 instance for TSQL2012 sample database Training kit (70-461)

Hi,
I just bought the Training kit (70-461) Querying Microsoft SQL server 2012. I downloaded Microsoft SQL Server 2014. I have also downloaded the script for the sample database -
TSQL2012.sql.
Basically I want to set up the sample database and practice my SQL queries. How do I log into
Microsoft SQL Server 2014? Basically I am doing this on my home computer. It is asking me for Server type, Server name, and Authentication. Do I have to set up a server instance to run and create the sample database? How?

Do you see anything in the Server Name at all?
So, in the first drop down you need to select Database Engine.
In the second (for Server Name) if you see anything, then try selecting it.
If there is nothing, try methods described in this article

Export the Biztalk error to a file from the Biztalk project.

I have created console app in VS 2012 to export the biztalk errors from Event Viewer to a text file.
Here i have used eventlog class to fetch the application log errors on click of .Exe file it will generate the the text file.
So I need to integrate this .exe or .net code to Biztalk project. How can i integrate this one. Any idea on this - how can i achieve this.
Biztalk handles error but i need to export that biztalk error which occured in the application in to seperate text file in a location. Because each time user needs to go to Adminstrative console then to EventViewer->Windows log->Application - >
to view the Biztalk error. In this case i need to export the errors to a text file from the project instead of going to view error in Admin Console. i need some code samples on how to make it.
But in .net we can achieve it using EventLog class to export the event viewer appplication log to a text file.As i said in first Earlier.Whether it can be integrate in to biztalk project through Custom Pipeline or any other way.

Or is requirement is due to some access issues you want to accumulate/consolidate all the BizTalk errors into one place so user can see BizTalk evenlog info in one place like
a text file in a shared location, then the following article can help you to achieve the same.

But what do you mean by integrate above process in to BizTalk. When you mean by “Biztalk handles error but i need to export that biztalk error which occured in the application
in to seperate text file in a location”, are you looking to log the BizTalk “application” error/events i.e logging from your applications in BizTalk to a log file ? Then you can consider about using standard logging library like Enterprise
Library Logging block, or NLog, or log4net. log4net can fit
well comparing other logging framework.

But keep in mind that this is application logging, i.e. logging from your BizTalk applications like logging while processing the message in pipeline/orchestration. But this will
not log when one of the send port/receive location is stopped. These information are logged into eventlog.
If you’re looking for application level logging then also know about
BizTalk CAT Instrumentation Framework Controller.
Or if you want to your existing console application which exports the eventlog to text file to be automated, then use the Windows schedule task to run your console application
periodically and let it export the errors to text file. You can console the export process in such a way that it can export the eventlog entries for the last one hour if you can configure the Windows schedule task to run every one hour to export the logs to
text file.
I have given various options, hope you can choose the one which suits your need best.

Practise test on cd for Training kit 70-646 70-640 70-642

I purchased the full training kit to cover the three subjects, but I have since lost the cd's that contain the practise tests which the book recommends you do through out the chapters. Is there any way I get these replaced? Im willing to cover the cost
of the cd's and postage

CD content can be downloaded however the downloads don't contain the practice tests. Apart from that, there's no way of getting replacement CD's with practice test content.

Thanks for the information Curt. I don't have a specific use case for this, I was just testing to see whether it worked.
As far as I can see in the January release Power Query always applies its own smarts to understand the format of a csv file. Is this correct? I don't seem to be able to specify the delimiter etc manually any more. I don't mind this happening, and it seems to
do a great job with the few files I've tested it with.

BizTalk 2013 - Receiving XML file suspended due to Hexadecimal 0X01 (en dash/tiny black box) issue

Hello,
Our BizTalk process consist of 2 schemas, a map to transform schema1 to schema2, and an orchestration. When the BizTalk process "Receive Port" receives an xml file (with policy data information), BizTalk will suspend the xml file
and it will never get pass the Receive Port to be transformed because some of the policy data will include an "en dash" a hexadecimal 0X01 (looks like a tiny black box when opened in TextPad), how can we configure the receive port
and or schema1 in BizTalk to ignore/or replace/remove the "en dash" a hexadecimal 0X01 (looks like a tiny black box)?

Yes, BizTalk has a solution for that. If you know the encoding and BOM then in the XML Receive/FFDASM or in a custom component you can specify the encoding for BizTalk to process the message.

Biztalk 2010 Recovery: Need File RestoreConfig.vbe

Hi all.
I need to recover a Biztalk Server Standard Edition 2010 and for that i need the file "RestoreConfig.vbe" as mentioned in the documentation of microsoft: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa561857.aspx
But when i click the link it leads me to the Microsoft Download Portal.
Does anyone still have this file or is anyone aware where to get it?

Your code looks strange. It appears to be the Program.cs that starts up a Windows Forms application. But the standard Main in program.cs normally ends after the Application.Run. The rest of the code that you have below that statement appears to be something
that you would ordinarily write into the Form, given that it accesses a couple of textbox controls (the ones where you are getting an error). Normally, the code that starts with
try and ends with the last catch would be written inside the Form1.cs file (and the textbox controls that are in error would have been automatically created in the Form1.designer.cs from the controls that you dragged into the designer window).

Error while buliding biztalk flat file schema

am using a flat file schema i had imported a schemas.
but when i bulit schemas solution am getting this error.
Only one SchemaInfo, GroupInfo, RecordInfo or FieldInfo is allowed in the appInfo block

Your error is related is much more related to your own flat file where there is some restriction over grouping the record .
I would suggest to go through your Flat File Schema Wizard again to see is there inconsistency you have done while generating schema .

Biztalk custom File Adapter

Hi,
Recently i have faced this below issue. please guide me if any one already faced similar issue. i am using Biztalk server 2013
"Could not stop the BizTalk Service BizTalk Group : BizTalkServerApplication

when i checked event log, i am getting like
"A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the BizTalk Service BizTalk

this is came after i deployed the custom file adapter.
Actually i took the sdk samples[File Adapter] from biztalk server location path , for doing zero byte file receving process.
I made few lines of code for promoting few properties.
then, i used registry file to register the assemblies.
Now i am able to receive the zero byte files and send the same file to some other location vai send port. It is woking perfectly.
but when i tried to restart the host instance , i am getting the above error. i am not sure why it is coming.
i am sure about that i am getting this error if i am used custom file adaper. since if i run other biztalk application , i dont have any issue. but if i run , the custom file adapter application . i am able to recreate this issue.
Also, i debugged, and find out which place i am getting
this.batch.SubmitMessage(file.Message, file.UserData); this is the method call to push the msg to biztalk db. I think some references object are not removed. when i verified the method call, it goes several event handler function. i am unable to follow that.
Can any one help me is there any this i need to do in custom file adapter?

No.it is not hanging in debugger. I am able to process the message . after that stopped the application as well, that means all the received locations are disabled.
but when i tried to restart the host instance, Host instance not stopping even when the application was stopped at that time.
Also i find out one more step. if i just start and stop the application . there is no issue while restarting host instance.
but after started the app, i tried to put one file in received location [custom file adapter], then the file is picked and the message is send to messagebox DB and send to send port. now i stopped the app, and try to restart the host instance , that time
i am getting error.
but if i wait for 1 more minute , service will automatically started. i don't understand this behavior.

1. I took the SDK file adapter samples[runtime, design time and adapter management] in Biztalk installation path.

8. now i am trying to restart the host instance. that time i am getting the error which i above mentioned. but if i wait for 1 more minute , service will automatically started. i dont understand this behavior.
Please help me , i facing this issue last few days . i tried maximum .but no clue. it would be great if you guys provide if i need to check some thing else in the code part .
