Black 564 cartridge has wrong fit tabs - where to go to get right end??

Our all in one printer, Photosmart Plus model b209a, needs more black.  We bought the Genuine HP 564XL black, but found it did not fit.  The tab on the back of the cartridge matches the tabs on the back of the colors - however, the black we took out, has a different tab - it has a T, where as the others are upside down T's.  In addition, the 564 we bought had a bowtie shape on it, whereas the one that ran out had a pentagon on it.  The "new packaging" for the inks don't show pictures.
Where do we find 564 pentagon inks? How can we tell if a 564 black is the right one for our printer going forward?

The post here discusses this issue.  You have the 564 Photo black, you need the 564 black.

  • Black ink cartridge will not fit into assigned slot.

I cannot insert new black ink (564) into original black in spot (564 setup)on the left side of ink carriage, because new cartridge is wider than original. I already inserted a 564XL black ink into the black ink slot on the far right side of carriage. Printer would not work with only one black cartridge, so I bought a 2nd 564 Black ink cartridge to install on far left side of cartridge (but it won't fit).

Thanks for the model number and additional information.
The cartridge on the far left is called Photo Cartridge. You need to install a replacement photo cartridge in that slot. See the document below to understand the difference between the black and photo cartridges:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c01839024
The two cartridges have different label icons on the packaging and on the cartridge. This will help you identify the correct cartridge in the store.
Alternately, please visit the link below to order the photo cartridge online:

  • 564 black setup cartridge is empty

I have the photosmart 7520 and the small black setup cartridge is empty and I can't find anywhere to purchase a replacement.  The black 564 cartridges are too big.  What am I doing wrong?

    Hello there folks,
I would like to post some extra information.  Setup cartridges are to initialize the printer only, once they are empty, a person has to replace them with regular inks.
Here is the first explanation in a document: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c02068088&lc=en&product=5199463&tmp...

  • Why 2 types of HP564 Black InkJet Cartridges?

I just bought my HP Photosmart B209A last month. I ran out of black ink. No problem ... I need a black 564 cartridge. So, I went to my local Walmart and bought one. Got it home and could not install it. The package says HP564 Photosmart, so I think I bought the right one. but no! Of course this is after I opened it and can not return it. Thanks, now I am out $10.00 all because HP can not label there products correctly. Why are there 2 types of 564 black cartridges? Yeah, I know (now) that one is for photos and one is for regular printing and some model printers use both. But my new B209A only uses the large pentagon style. No 564a or 564b or maybe a different number. No other designation unless you take the time to look under the 546 and see the little "photo black". Who would know, there is nothing in the manual that states the difference. it clearly states that this printer takes cartridge 564.
Obvoiusly Walmart does not know the difference either because the are all mixed in the same row.
Nice, gee thanks again HP! Will HP do anything about it? I guess I am doing my part to increase your profits. Next time, I will magically overlook all HP Products. Pretty pathetic for something as stupid as an inkjet cartridge.

  • Tab Control will not build properly if "tab location" are on left or right.

    Using LV 6.1, try the following;
Create a new vi. Place a Tab control,(from the Arrays & Clusters palette), on it's front panel. Right click on one of it's tabs and follow "Advance-->Tab Location-->select Left". Save your vi. Create a build for it and run the program. Does anyone know of a fix for this? Does this also happen on LV 7.1?
    Thanks

That is good news to me. That probably means I am doing something different here.
What happens to me is that when I create an executable of a VI which uses a Tab Control that has had its tabs set on the left or right of the control instead of its original location, the tabs are now all stacked on top of each other at the very bottom and the text labels are not shown.
I don't know how else to explain this. I've attached a sample of a vi I used to test this. Please take a look at it.
    Thank you,
    Wil

  • 564 Black setup cartridge

When I go to buy the 564 Black setup cartridge, due to it does not come in a package with the other ink cartridges needed for my HP Photosmart 7520, I cannot tell which box has this cartridge in it.  How can I tell which box at the store contains this cartridge?  Thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The setup cartridges are included with the printer when you buy it, they are not available in retail stores.  If you purchased a printer and it did not include one or more setup cartridges I would suggest you contact your dealer for the proper cartridges.  If for some reason these are not available you would need to contact HP.
If the printer has been setup and used and the black cartridge now needs replacement you will need to buy the 564 or 564XL black cartridges.  These are available as singles, and may be available in some combo packages.  Make sure you purchase the correct Black or Photo cartridge.  The photo cartridge is commonly available in four pack combo's with the three color cartridges.  See the document here for information.

  • 564 black ink cartridges

Printer model:  HP 7520Ink cartridge calls for 2 black cartridges--one regular and one XLThe black replacement cartridges I've bought to replace the smaller (regular) one do not fit the carriage. They are the same size as the XL. I've bought cartridges in two different stores and neither fits. The printer will not function without all five cartridtes (2 black, and the 3 colors).

I have this image of a Photosmart 7520 ink setup that may help -- the example image does show the photo black cartridge having the "bow tie" on the cartridge instead of the newer style tiny camera image that is imprinted on new photo black cartridges; nonetheless, the image does also show the rather "giant" larger "regular black" color cartridge that can be used on the far right.  Except for the rather outsized "regular black" cartridge, the XL color cartridges are not overly large, that is, they fit in the same slots as do the regular sized color slots for the cartridge of that designated color.  Reference Posts by our Provost Bob_Headrick: Photosmart 7525 and Incompatible 564XL Black Ink Cartridge Question regarding Photosmart 7525 / Photosmart 7520 – five ink cartridges Please offer Kudos to Bob's Posts to show support and appreciation.   When you see a Post that helps you,Inspires you, provides fresh insight,Or teaches you something new,Click the "Thumbs Up" on that Post. Click my Answer Accept as Solution to help others find Answers.

  • Adapter 6525 black ink cartridge

I have an HP 6525 printer.  I purchased a pack of new ink cartridges and all fit fine except the black.  The setup black ink cartridge is about twice the width of the one that came with the pack.  Is there an adapter for the smaller cartridges?  If so where can i get one?  ramroc

    Hey @ramroc ,
Thank you for taking the time to post on the HP Forums today! Hope you enjoy the experience.
You are using the HP Photosmart 6525 and you are having trouble with the new ink you purchased because you have a black that is smaller then the slot in the carriage.
What has happened here most likely is you purchased the HP 564 cartridges with the 5th black cartridge that is a photo black intended for the HP Photosmart 7520. The black cartridge you want to be using is the one with a pentagon on the top, not a bowtie.
    What your carriage should look like;
    What the HP Photosmart 7520 carriage looks like;
You want to make sure you are using the cartridge with the pentagon not the bowtie.
Hope this makes things more understandable for you. Have a good one!

  • HP Photosmart 5510 fails to print with brand new 364XL black ink cartridge

The original HP 364 'SETUP' black ink cartridge worked well and I bought an HP364XL black ink cartridge via the HP website.
I installed the HP364XL this morning, but it's failing to leave any ink on the pages.
The cartridge seems to fit OK and there are no error messages.  The paper goes through in the normal way, but comes out with no printing on it.  The date on the box is SEP 2014, so it's not out of date.
I've tried to find what's wrong.  I've checked the cartridge is properly installed and it seems to have ink in it.   I've tried printing using the black cartridge again and again with different settings, such as 'Fast draft' and 'Normal', but each time the paper emerges with no printing.  The 'Supply Levels' shows the black cartridge to be about 90% full.

This is normally caused by the vent on top of the cartridge being clogged, or by a dirty printhead. The document linked below will help you work out the problem. Let me know what happens.

  • Ink cartridge doesn't fit!

This is the first time I'm replacing ink for my Photosmart Premium printer model #C410a.  Went to Staples and got 2 different cartridges on 2 different trips.  The 564 cartridge I am replacing is the regular black ink, NOT the black photo.  The cartridge is very thin.  First I bought the regular black 564 and it was too fat to fit in the space provided (the only spot that would fit that size is the photo black).  So, I went back and got the 564XL. I was assured it would fit. Again, too fat.  So I went to the official hp shopping site to try to order thru them. They didn't even have my model listed as a choice in the drop down menu for deciding what ink I would buy.  The only numbers listed were: C4140, C4150 and C4180.  What's a girl to do?? I am so confused and I need to print!!

    Hi,
Both the 564 and 564XL black cartridges should fit.
The Black ink should be inserted within the most right space which is the most wide (the Fivefold shape), as in the sample below:
Howevewr, due to cartridge shape, more likely the space is wider than the phisical cartridge size due to cartridge update.. You should insert the cartridge into the center of the space:

  • 364XL Cartridges do not fit my Photosmart 7520 printer

I recently purchased replacement ink cartridges for my Phtotsmart 7520 printer (all 364 XL).  I used the HP tool to make sure I found the correct cartridges, and according to everything I read (also on the packaging of the cartridge) they should fit my printer.  However when I try to install them they do not fit.  They seem to be too fat for the holder.  I see that the cartridges were re-designed in 2010, but the printing on the outside of the box has a copyright mark dated 2013 - so they must be later than 2010 - so should fit.  What am I missing ??
    Thanks
