Black Album Art Appearing

I've got an Ipod Classic 80gb. I've went through great lengths to put album art with each song but for some songs even though the art shows up fine in iTunes it only displays as a black square on my iPod. Does anyone know why it's doing this and how to fix it?
TIA
Rose

Likely a corruption in the artwork database. If you uncheck the box to display artwork on the iPod, sync, reselect it, and resync all of your artwork should appear on the iPod. I've had individual pieces of album artwork show up as a black square, but never the entire library.
If you just have a few albums (or tracks) with black artwork, you can try removing the artwork in iTunes for just those tracks, sync, add the artwork back, and resync.

  • TS5164 No album art appeared from downloaded sonh

I bought a song from the iTunes store but the downloaded song appeared with no album art even if the iTunes preview has. How can I get the artwork without going to my iTunes library.

The iTunes "Get Album Artwork" feature only works if the iTunes Store store has an exact match.
If it does not, you can easily find the artwork on the web and drag it to the Artwork tab.  Click OK and it will be saved to the file(s), and next time you sync it will be on your iPod as well.

  • Album Art not appearing on iPhone

For the life of me, I cannot change the songs from "Abbey Road" to appear as that album on my iPhone. By that I mean each individual song will have the album art when played, but in my list of albums, "Abbey Road" will appear blank. That, is, not the blue music note, but actually just white space. It's not a matter of the tracks not having identical info, as they do. I have repeatedly selected them all, got the info and made sure they have the same album title, band name, image for artwork. I have also tried removing the folder from the iTunes music library, then adding it to my library again, variations of this, etc. The files themselves will all look uniform with the album art if I go into Finder, etc. I tried renaming the album with jibberish like "AAAAAAAA" and it will work. Everything will be perfect...track names, artist info, album art....but then the second I go and change the jibberish to the words "Abbey Road," it gives me the white space again on my iPhone.

SOLUTION:  After 48 hours, 100% of the artwork is now appearing.   If it's in iTunes, it's on the iPhone.
However, there's a few hoops I jumped through to make it all work:
In iTunes, if album art is not showing in the Grid view, buy you know you have album art associated with it, select Get Info on any of the tracks. Magically, the album art appears in Grid view.  Repeat for all albums with missing art.
When you're all done with the art, in iTunes, select [store] [update iTunes Match]
    Wait 24 hours
It appears that the iPhone processor is not fast enough to display album art quickly with a large library.  On my iPhone it takes about 10 seconds to load a full page of artwork in Album view.   If you're flipping quickly through your library, expect it to take a while to catch up.  It appears that album art is loaded via an Internet connection, because they do not load in Airplane mode. So, it seems that the robustness of this UI depends on your Internet connection.
Project is closed in my book.
    Good luck with yours!

  • Album art is not appearing on my iPad but appears when plugged into iTunes.

    Hi everyone -
Having a major issue: I have about 8000 songs accumulated on my iPad Mini 3 with Retina display [running iOS 8.2] from my main computer in a different country. All my album art used to appear and everything was all well and good until I plugged my iPad into my MacBook Pro this morning to charge. While charging, I made one small spelling correction to an album error, at which point my iPad started to sync and then all the album art disappeared from my iPad. When I play the music in iTunes with my iPad connected, the album art appears in the small square at the top but whenever I play it on my iPad, there is no album art.
Is there a fix to this inconvenient issue? I'd appreciate your help!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
    Restart your mobile device.

  • V2.2 bug: Album art sometimes appears as still frames from video podcasts

I subscribe to the CNN "in case you missed it" video podcast. I have noticed that intermittently, the album art appearing on the iPhone screen for the playing song is a "stolen" frame from one of the CNN video podcasts. I have taken screenshots when this occurs and I can post them if desired.
This is a question that I will mark as answered when I see that the problem has been corrected in a future firmware.

This bug seems to have been fixed in IOS 3

  • Can't add album art

Have added a few new albums to my itunes library on pc. However no album art appeared. This is generally not a problem as i go to amazon copy the artwork and add it to the album through "get info" from right click. However now i try this and it adds a black screen for artwork not the image i copied. Tried the "get album artwork" but no luck either. Has anyone else had the same trouble or have any advice for me. Seems to have occurred since recent update.

I had trouble adding artwork to some items, also. All my original items were in aif form, but I just wasn't able to add artwork to some of them, no matter what I did. Drag and drop wouldn't work, copy and paste wouldn't work, and neither would "add" and "choose file". I finally tried dragging each item out of iTunes onto my desktop and converting it to another form (wav, au, even mov), then reconverting it to aif, and dragging it back into iTunes. Once I had the items back in iTunes, I added the artwork and deleted the originals.  I have a Mac Book running Snow Leopard and I used my Quick Time 7 Pro for the conversions (select the item, choose file and open with Quick Time 7, then choose file and export). Converting to wav and then back to aif usually worked, but sometimes I had to try several different forms before I found one that worked.

  • HELP. album art problems. can't sync itunes.

the album art appears correct on itunes but when i play the songs on my ipod the artwork for the wrong album will appear, like they all get jumbled. and not all of my songs for certain artists will go on my ipod, they play on itunes, but won't show up on my ipod. please help.
    fifth generation   Windows XP

I have had a similar issue, but much more...started with the messed up album art, and now the following problems are happening (5th Generation 30 GB ipod):
won't play video - Just black screen for 10 seconds, then back to menu
sometimes won't play podcasts - when clicking on podcast it goes to the play screen and then without the timer moving it acts as if it's played the entire podcast, and goes back to menu.
also, sometimes the music or podcast gets terribly garbled almost like "electronic noise"
I have restored 2 times, and reset numerous times, but it continues to happen!!

  • Wrong album art when using PC library

I have a new iPad 2. I also have iTunes running on a PC.
On the PC, all of the album art is correct, but when I connect over Wi-Fi to my iTunes library on the PC from my iPad using the Music app, some of the albums have the wrong art work. Most are correct but some albums (which works out to quite a few) show the art work to other albums in my library.
Also, when I connect to my iCloud library from the iPad, all of the albums have the correct artwork. So, the problem only occurs when I connect to my PC's library from the iPad.
Any ideas how to fix it?
Is there a way to force the Music app to forget what it thinks it knows about my PC library so that it'll have to start from scratch?
I'm using iTunes Match on both the PC and the iPad.
I've searched the web and found some other people complaining of the same thing but always with different scenarios and the rare times a solution is suggested it doesn't seem to apply to my scenario.
    iTunes v.10.5.1.42, on PC (Win 7, x64)
    iPad v.5.0.1

I think I just figured out one way of forcing the Music app to start over with the library.  Log into a different account, reboot, and start the Music app.  Then log back into the correct account, reboot again, start the Music app, and connect to the PC library.  It should start from scratch.
Perhaps there is a simpler way to accomplish the same thing.
The album art appears to be correct now.

  • IPhone Album Art Question

Okay, I've got music playing on iPhone 4.  Phone goes into sleep mode (screen goes off, music still playing)  When I "awaken" the phone (music still playing) with some songs the song's album art appears on the 'slide to unlock' screen.  But for others my regular wallpaper is displayed.  I'd rather have the album art show up all the time when playing.  I have tried to find differences between these song files but can not.  I have added art to all song files but can not change this behavior.  I have tried letting iTunes add the album art, but this does not change the behavior either.  ALL songs show their album art when the iPhone is "awake."  It's only when "awakening" the iPhone while songs are playing that art displays for some and not for others.  Does this make sense to anyone?

Part of that 157.5mb is probably for files that iPod needs to operate. I removed the album art and other was still about 76mb on my iPod.
Also, I noticed that if I added a video, the size of other went up about 1-2mb. So there are probably some support files that get created. Also, Games would be in the Other category, as well as Contacts. Audiobooks are probably in the Audio category.
Even if you never used the iPod as a hard drive, you may want to +Enable disk use+ and open it up in a Windows Explorer window.
Ultimately, you can use the Restore button in iTunes to erase the iPod and then re-sync it.

  • Album Art via Video out

It is my understanding that only video will play via the video out, no album art. I have 150 music videos and 2500 mp3 all with cover art. I put my Iphone in the av dock which is connected to my AV receiver and hit shuffle. Music Videos will appear on the TV but not the album art although the music plays. The album art appears on the phone - but not via the video out. If this intentional, why? Major shortcoming. Any workarounds? It would be cool.

Can't be done at the present. However, you can do a video slide show of your pics with music.

  • Problem with showing mp3 album art in list view.

    Hello.
I have litle problem with showing mp3 album artwork in list view.
In SNOW LEOPARD all work fine, and all mp3 files have album art's preview in list mode in finder.
But in LION i have only default preview mp3 icon.
Option "Show icon preview" is already on!

    I have the fix!!!!
I have had the same issue ever since Lion. Its been very painful not having album art preview in finder or the play button when rollover the file for so many versions of OSX. Today I worked hard in trying to solve the problem since Applecare support hasn't helped much, all they did was tell me to bring the computer in. The other main reason I got so motivated to try and fix this is because the DJ app for Mac only reads album art from the finder even if iTunes can display the album art. The other reason that got me curious is that my friends macbook pro album art worked fine, so I cross checked with his computer until I figured out a few things that helped and ultimately fixed the issue. FINALLY!
    My set up:
    - I have my full iTunes library folder on my external as I have over 700GB of music.
    - It includes all my database files in there, which is very important as I have many playlist settings from over 7 years of iTunes activity.
    SOLUTION:
    1. With every new computer I have purchased, I use to just pressed option on Mac and press iTunes to locate my folder (which I have said is located on my external drive).
    2. I tried today to press option again BUT locate and selected the default library in the user/music folder of my internal drive (standard setting from Apple).
    3. Miraculously, all the album art appeared in both my external drive library and also today's downloaded songs on my Macbook pro. Ofcourse with the new default location I don't have any songs or data.
    4. So I tried to find a way to keep this library data on my internal drive since it can help the finder display all my files properly, yes even have the play on rollover button but as well link it back to my external drive with all my 700GB songs.
    5. I then went into iTunes Preferences/Advance tab and in iTunes Media folder locationredirected the location to my external drive iTunes/ iTunes Media folder. If it asks to collate data, press NO.
    6. Then I quit iTunes.
    7. Next I copied the 4 files to my desktop from my external drive as I want to keep the data I have made with all my playlists etc. The four files are iTunes Library Extras.itdb ,iTunes Library Genius.itdb , iTunes Library.itl , iTunes Library.xml
    8. I then went to my internal drive User/Music/Itunes/ and dragged these 4 files I copied from my external drive into here and making sure to REPLACE the four existing files already there.
    9. Next open iTunes and you will find all your presettings appear with all your music linked to your external. What this does is keep the important library files on your internal drive (that somehow makes your finder files album art appear), BUT to read also all the music mp3 files located in the external drive (action from step 5)
Presto!! All your music files whether on internal drive or external all the album art has appeared.
Hope this helps!! Let me know if there are any other questions.
I am on 10.8.1 running retina macbook pro.

  • Displaying album art and bio info

I know how to get thumbnail sized album art to appear in the bottom left-hand of iTunes. Is there a more souped-up way to get album art and band bio to appear?

To make the album art appear, hit the fourth button from the left in the bottom left corner. The one with the triangle on it. Of course, to see a albumcover, you'll first need to include them in a tracks ID3- tag.
As iTunes doesn't include the band bio in the ID3- tag, you won't be able to display it.

  • Split screen not previewing album art

Hi - I've done a search and couldn't find any answers, hope I'm posting in the right place etc.
I bought an 80GB iPod classic a few weeks ago but this morning a work colleage took my iPod without my knowledge, and plugged it in to his computer; it initially failed to install drivers and froze up, he then unplugged it and I reset (held down "menu" and centre buttons). The iPod worked perfectly after the reset.
He then took it again and tried to use it with Winamp - the drivers installed this time - and he copied all of my music across to his hard drive through winamp (all of which occurred without my permission).
After he ejected the ipod, there were lots of problems, most of which I have resolved, but the seemingly impossible one is that album art doesn't preview on the right side of the screen when I have menus up anymore. This is one of the main reasons I bought the iPod Classic - for the sleek interface - and I'm really frustrated I can't fix it. There are also some problems with album art appearing when I play songs - it appears in Cover Flow, but once I play a song from that album, the standard apple 'note' symbol appears on the left of the screen.
Any ideas? Please? I'm desperate and very upset as I just bought this.
    Thanks!

Try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7
