Black and white documents

When I had Photoshop Elements 6, I could import black and white dcuments (music) from my scanner, clean up the background and save them as JPEGs. I don't seem to be able to do that with Elements 12. I can't even make my way through the tutorials, which are geared towards photos, not documents. Is there a way to import such documents directly from the scanner into the program? And what's the best way to clean up the bacground so I get the crispest black and white JPEG possible?
technodolt

technodolt,
Probably TWAIN needs to be installed for this to show up.
See this tech note:
http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/twain-installed-photoshop-elements-9.html
Suggest that you close Elements, install TWAIN, reboot the computer, power on your scanner so that there is two-way communication, try again to access the scanner in Organizer.
Please let us know if that woks.

  • Problem in scanning black and white documents using acrobat 9.0 pro.

when i select file from the menu bar -create pdf-scanner-black and white docment,  the logos and images from that page appear as black boxes. I have tried it with different scanners of same model and with different pages and on different machines. I have windows xp pro. Can someone please tell what to do to overcome this problem. Its really urgent....Thank you in advance..

The problem lies with the settings in your scanner's settings. I'd suggest trying to scan as greyscale rather than B&W.

  • How do I scan large black and white documents, creating the smallest file size possible?

I am attempting to scan a 70 page document and prefer it to be a file small enough to send through regular email.  I am not interested in zipfiles, i am not familiar with them.  I have been scanning and converting to .pdf for years, using the lowest dpi reasonable, but my file sizes are still quite large (compared to other .pdf's that are emailed to me).  I know there is a way, just haven't figured it out.

  • Make HP7510 printer use other cartridge when printing black and white document.

    Hi,
    HP7510 inkjet printer.
Assuming normal black is used up. Will the printer continue with the
photo black cartridge to complete documets?
Can I configure the printer to do so?
    Claes

The photo cartridge is used for graphics and printing on photo paper.  You may be able to use the photo cartridge by selecting Photo paper in the driver settings.  This is not a recommended solution - printing will be slower and it may put too much ink on the page.  It may be an OK solution for temporary printing.

  • Printing in black and white only - looking for a definitive solution

    Hi
I've been trying to find out once and for all how to make sure my black and white text documents are printing only from the large pigment-based cartridge (525 PGBK), rather than using the smaller black dye-based cartridge (526BK), or from a combination of the dye-based colour cartridges. I've trawled through endless forums, and finally in frustration I recently called Canon's Australian phone support team.
I thought I'd nailed it. The phone support person told me that if the document I'm printing is definitely black only, then all I need to do is print normally, with grayscale DE-selected. He said nothing about also de-selecting duplex. But I've since read online advice that contradicts this in relation to other models (I haven't found any advice based specifically on the MG6150, apart from the phone guy from Canon). Some say you need to SELECT grayscale and DE-select duplex; others say to DE-select both grayscale and duplex; others say to select grayscale, DE-select duplex, and also select dither (on my screen that's under Main > Print Quality > Custom). I'm now wondering whether I've nailed it after all.
If anyone from Canon is reading this, can you please give a definitive answer to these questions:
    1. How do I ensure that my black and white text documents print only from the large pigment cartridge?
    2. Can I print in automatic duplex using this method, or do I have to do manual duplex?
    2. Will this also work for purely black and white NON-text documents as well (e.g., photos that have been converted from colour to B&W)?
    3. If not, is there another way of forcing B&W NON-text documents to print from the pigment cartridge? What about a way of forcing colour documents to print from the pigment cartridge?
    4. If my smaller black dye cartridge (526BK) isn't being used up at the same rate as the other dye cartridges, is there a way of forcing the printer to use this instead of the pigment cartridge for B&W text documents, but NOT to mix in any of the colour cartridges at the same time?
    5. Does this procedure work for all other Canon printer models in addition to the MG6150, or just a limited range?
Many thanks for your patience in reading this -- I'm really trying to get the best out of my printer rather than give up and buy a different brand, and I'm sure others would appreciate a definitive answer to these questions as well.

I have at MG8100 and it seems that there is no solution to this. I have scoured the web for one and it seems that there is no way to print in black and white only. The grayscale option uses all the colours including black to print.
I have gone through a ton of colour ink just printing black and white documents. Its cost me a fortune and I've worked out that I can get it done cheaper by going to the print shop.
As far as I am concerned this unbelievable. A printer that doesn't give you the option to print using black ink only! And its not advertised or made known in any way. You have to buy the product and then find out later that it does not have a black and white print option. It seems there are a lot of people out there that are unhappy about this, and the "problem" seems to go quite far back. Why haven't Canon responded by adding this feature?! I wont say it here, but I think it must be obvious. Brings to mind the story of housecleaning product manufacturers that increase the size of the closures so that consumers will use more of the product, which is actually wasteful, so as to increase the purchase cycle.
This leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. I'm flogging mine now, and I am done with Canon for good!

  • Why can't I print in black and white only?

Why is the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus not able to print black and white only if the black cartridge is still not empty?
What I mean is I went into the settings to set the printer to print black and white only as well as print text only in black.  Yet I am FORCED to replace the cyan, magenta, and yellow cartridges because they are depleted.  What does cyan, magenta, and yellow ink have anything to do with printing black considering a SEPARATE black cartridge exists and is still full?
I am aggravated at how the driver for this printer is designed TO FORCE me to purchase nonblack cartridges when I purposefully set the printing to be BLACK ONLY.  I am unable to go forward with my printing.  This is considered a show stopper and is unacceptable considering that the setting I assigned and the cartridge(s) depleted message contradict each other.  If the setting is made to print in black and white only including text, then print black and white since I know the black ink is still available.
Take into consideration that printing can take place at anytime.  Not being able to use black as my alternate color (WHICH IS NOT EMPTY AND IS A SEPARATE CARTRIDGE) forces me to stop.  I am unable to go forward until the store opens.  WalMart is not always an option.   That is time lost.
The inability to switch to use the black cartridge only is a time waster.
Let's call it for what it is, a form of ransom. HP wants me to spend money on color cartridges that have nothing to do with printing black and white.   When I am ready to print in color, that should be a time of my choosing.
Incidentally, the form I am trying to print is black and white only.  No color is on this form.  It makes no sense to force color printing of a black and white document.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
To protect itself specially the printheads, many printers NEED other inks even they only print black. During the warming up process, printers require all inks therefore they may stop before we can continue. Some printers allow user to print (specially the ones which have tri-color ink tank) but they may print at a baby snail speed.
    Regards.

  • Black and white PDFs printing in changing colours from preview

I am often printing black and white PDFs from preview with my HP PSC 1510 All in one printer and scanner. After updating to OS 10.6, my PDFs have been coming out in colour. They usually start in black, then change in the middle of a line of music or text to purple, red, blue and green. The longer the document, the more different colours I get. This is not occuring when printing black and white documents from NeoOffice, only when printing black and white PDFs from Preview. As this is what most of my printing consists of, this is extremely annoying.
I am high on black ink, as I recently changed catridge and I have also made certain that the printer driver knows this by using the printers and faxes preferance panel and selcting the" levels of material" button to update this, and it seems to understand that I am high on black and low on colour, but still the problem occurs with every PDF i print. (If this button is called something else, but similar, that is because I am using a norwegian system and don't actully know what it is called in the english OSX.)
There is no "print in black and white" button in the printer dialog either, so I can't fool the printer to print in black and white what it perceives as colour in my black and white PDFs either.

Be sure you have applied both the 10.6.2 update and the absolute latest drivers for HP from Apple:

  • Making black and white copies with the tri- color ink

I would like to know if using tri-color ink to print blank and white copies, drain the color ink too much when compared to using a black ink?

    Hello @Rajeeeram,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you would like information regarding ink usage when copying and printing to your HP ENVY 5643 e-All-in-One Printer. I would like to offer my assistance with this today.
When you copy from your printer, the unit will only use the cartridge that matches the Black or Colour copy that you're performing. If you're performing a Black copy from your HP Envy, only the black cartridge will be used. If you're performing a Colour copy from your HP Envy, only the colour cartridge will be used. Therefore, you cannot perform Black copies with the Tri-Colour cartridge.
When you print from your computer, the computer may send the print job to the printer as an image file. Therefore, even if you are printing a black only document, colour ink may be used to enrich the document. Should this happen, you would be using colour ink without even realizing it.
On your computer you can set your printer to Black Ink Only if you do not want colour to be used in black and white documents. However, in order for me to walk you through adjusting this setting, I will need to know what Operating System you're using on your computer.
    What's my OS?
I hope this helps clear up any confusion

  • How can I convert a pages color document to a PDF Black and White doc.

How can I convert a pages color document to a PDF Black and White doc.  Or, covert the color to B&W in a new doc?

    > How can I convert a pages color document to a PDF Black and White doc.  Or, covert the color to B&W in a new doc?
The general idea is that you colour correct photographs once, archive, and convert with or without colour changes. The archived photograph is unchanged - or we would be colour correcting the same photographs again and again and again.
If you have a photograph with a corrected exposure, you can open the photograph in the Apple ColorSync Utility, apply a colour space conversion to a grayscale appearance using the preinstalled ICC profile, save the photograph under another name, and place that in your pagination.
If you have a paginated document with corrected exposures, and any such non-scalable bitmap or scalable spline graphics as you have chosen to add, you can render the pagination as a whole to PDF through the same ICC profile, carrying out the same colour space conversion on any and all objects.
Caveat: If you intend the pagination for certain processes, in particular offset lithography, then you are probably  expected not to render the type to grayscale, but rather to render it to single ink solid black. No software can determine what printing process you intend, you have to understand a bit about printing, and how to set up general colour space conversions in software. Ask your prepress provider, and if the answer is not prompt and proficient, pick another provider.

  • Help! How can i print a color document in black and white?

I have tried some of the other solutions found on Google but i still can not figure out how to print a color document in black and white on my macbook pro...can someone help me?

  • How to get AirPrint on iOS to print color documents in black and white?

I use iOS 6.0.1 and I use AirPrint on my iphone4s to print documents wirelessly to my printer. The problem is that if the document that I am printing has ANY color on it at all, the printer will print that part in color. Sometimes I actually want the document in black and white only. But AirPrint doesn't give us the option to do this , like OS X for Mac does.
Color ink is way too expensive to just be using "willy-nilly".
Apple , give us a black and white option on AirPrint !
Anyone know any ways around this until Apple updates iOS ?

It might be a problem with your printer's color profile. Did you try to set the color profile in the print dialogue to "black and white" (choose: "more options" in the print panel) ?

  • Setting up Colour and Black and White in one document

I hope this is a stupid question. I am creating the school year book for the first time. It is 80 pages with a mixture of black and white pages and colour pages.
Do I have to set Indesign up any special way so that when it goes to the printers it will know this.
Can I have black and white masters and colour masters in the one document?
Do I need to gray scale all my (black and white images) in Photoshop first?
Do I need to do anything to the text to make it print in Black and white if I am using a black coloured font???
Thank you for your help.............it is greatly appreciated

    >Do I have to set Indesign up any special way so that when it goes to the printers it will know this.
Maybe. How is it going to be printed? Have you talked to the printer about it?
    >Can I have black and white masters and colour masters in the one document?
In a sense, yes. ALL pages in ID are color pages, but you can certainly set up masters where the only color used is Black.
    >Do I need to gray scale all my (black and white images) in Photoshop first?
InDesign CS6 introduced export to grayscale PDFs, but that turns everything in the PDF to grayscale so you would need to export your color pages separately from the grayscale pages, then recombine in Acrobat pro, or send to the printer in separate files. You also need to set your Appearance of Black settings (in the prefs) to Output All Blacks as Rich Blacks if you are going to export to grayscale or your black type will be screened to a dark gray. Personally, I'd do the conversions in Photoshop so you can see and control what is going to happen and avoid the export hassles.
Grayscale content is output in the K channel of the InDesign file, and your screen preview may not be accurate unless you use overprint preview.
    >Do I need to do anything to the text to make it print in Black and white if I am using a black coloured font?
Your text will print in whatever color is you choose for it. If you use the default [Black] swatch, it will output using only black ink.
