Black and White Tv Pictures with Qosmio G10-106

Grey hairs and going bald from pulling hair out. Bought Toshiba G10-106 in Jan 05,living in Ireland using ordinary Tv cable for laptop and cannot get Tv to work properly.B&w images are the best ive got so far.
Is there compatability issues with Toshiba driver and Windows MCE?Also if i launch Tv without booting windows i get one channel(E4) in colour but totally fuzzy. Would love to have this cracked as spent lot of dosh on the laptop and am relatively new to computers and would like some feel good factor rather than depression.
Thanks all.

Sorry,i should have clarified. My hopes were to watch TV on the laptop itself using the built in TV tuner and the Antenna adapter supplied with the Qosmio,using no other equipment.
I have launch media centre/settings/current region=Ireland/cable or digital selected/analogue terrestrial pal/secam selected/No selected to "Do i have a set top box?",then i return to Tv settings as there is no Guide listings for Ireland.
I then scan for services. Thirty seven services found all in Black and White and some quite fuzzy. Hope this will narrow things down,i cant figure it.
Thanks for help.

I am doing a video with all black and white photo's with a black background. The black background does not show up black when projected on a screen. I used a black border on the photo's and the border shows up black. How do I get the background to show up black?

What does it show as? Did you try using a black color matte on a track below the images?

• When i try to print in black and white, my picture is flooded with blue ink

hi! I made sure all the printing settings were correct. I did a clean of the heads and made sure the inks were all full. I set the printer to print six by four inches and used hp advanced photo paper. I set the print to grey scale, as there is no settings for black and white.
     when the picture came through, it started grey scale and further down the picture was flooded with blue ink. I have a all in one printer fax C309 series. can anyone help me please?
This question was solved.

This seems like the printhead may have a problem. Lets go to printing preferences for the printer(these may already be set this way if so let us know). In this window on the left column of printing shortcuts lets choose Fast/Economical and set Print in Grayscale on the right to "Black ink only". If your setting was set to high quality try printing again. If you were already set to "Black ink only" under the Grayscale option the printer may require servicing.

• Black and white selective coloring with brushes disappeared

The down and dirty:
Upgraded to Aperture 3.1.1
Aperture then updated my library
I open a file that I have selectively colored with black and white (a track and field runner and her lane is color, the field is black and white) and to my horror the thumbnail and "quick preview" is correctly colored, but the full resolution image is not
How do I get my hard work back?

I'd like to add one last bit that seems strange to me (and gives me hope that I can recover my edits). When I switch "quick preview" from on to off and the image zooms to the native resolution my edits are in tact for half a second before going away (the image fully loads - I'm not looking at an expanded rendering of the quick preview).
Also, when I move the image at full zoom my B&W edits flash briefly until I stop moving the image.
I tried repair permissions and repair database. Both failed.

• Black and White... with color.

Hello, I have a project to do on bullying. I have a clip of a kid walking down a hallway, with brightly colored posters behind him. I want to make the entire shot black and white, but yet still have the posters have color, and continue to have color as he walks down the hall. Any ideas on how I do this?
A fast reply would be great, thanks.
Eric.

You may be able to get that effect to work out relatively well by applying a black and white effect and then using PrPro's CC's Masking and Tracking feature to mask out the posters and track them through the shot. But since it sounds like you have multiple posters and considerable movement, you will need to use After Effects which has a full set of features for what you need. Either way, it will take time but can be especially daunting in AE. Here is a tutorial to start with if you plan to utilize the more established Pr + AE workflow (as opposed to trying to do it all inside of Pr):

• Black and white photo prints with purple cast

I used Photoshop to convert the digital photos to black and white before placing them in Indesign CS3. On the monitor the photo looks great, but when I print the newsletter, each photo has a purple tint. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Polly,
your black and white photos are probably 'Grayscales'.
The print has a tint because it is printed by rich black
CMYK instead of K-only, and the printer is not perfectly
calibrated or not calibrated at all.
a)It is a PostScript printer and it was chosen
Output=CompositeRGB instead of CompositeCMYK or
CompositeGray (CompositeCMYK is necessary if the
doc contains Grayscales and color images).
Composite### doesn't mean the source but the printer.
PostScript toner printers and inkjets are CMYK devices.
Desktop printers are often considered as RGB devices.
b)The Grayscale was converted back to RGB (still gray though).
c)The Grayscale was converted to CMYK, which delivers in
Photoshop by default rich black CMYK.

• Critical Irish Update needed to solve black and white tv problem on G20!

I recently had trouble with setting up tv on my Qosmio G20, I was pointed in the direction of a black and white problem that affects earlier models. The solution to the problem was to use the g20's drivers and run 2 reg files.
Having done that to no success i tried every irish combination possible, with still black and white, I then tried UK and got colour.
I mucked about with the registration files and found that in the file, there was no irish setting, So when a user puts ireland in as their location they will always get black and white.
Ireland uses the exact same settings for tv as the UK does, However if a person choses UK they will not get irish guides or irish channels to pick from (ireland isnt part of the uk)
i found the settings for the UK -
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\ttv200x\Parameters\44]
@="United Kingdom"
"FreqBoundary"=dword:000493e0
"LB_VideoStandard"=dword:20000080
"LB_AudioStandard"=dword:00020000
"LB_ShiftFreq"=dword:00000abe
"HB_VideoStandard"=dword:20000080
"HB_AudioStandard"=dword:00020000
"HB_ShiftFreq"=dword:00000abe
Figuring the 44, was the dial code for UK (that took a while to figure) i added a registry entry with exactly the same settings, but with ireland and 353 at the top.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\ttv200x\Parameters\353]
@="Ireland"
"FreqBoundary"=dword:000493e0
"LB_VideoStandard"=dword:20000080
"LB_AudioStandard"=dword:00020000
"LB_ShiftFreq"=dword:00000abe
"HB_VideoStandard"=dword:20000080
"HB_AudioStandard"=dword:00020000
"HB_ShiftFreq"=dword:00000abe
I now have colour tv under the irish settings in media centre, i also have sound now, where before i didnt. Hopefully the above code will be added to the registry file named ttv2_regdata_20050111.reg that comes as part of the http://support.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB5800V20000R01.htm driver fix for the problem..
thanks to jimi in the following post http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?forumID=42&threadID=11145 for pointing me in the right direction.
Hope it helps someone..
laters taters...

I can confirm the problem isnt to do with win dvd creator 2 for toshiba. My registry setting was at 0.
Its bascially a known problem that was fixed, however it wasnt fixed for irish people.
When windows wants to play tv it looks in the registry to find out what settings to use. There are no irish ones. Our signal is technically the same as the UK, so using UK settings fixes the problem, However the UK guide doesnt work for irish channels. For the tv to work in colour windows needs the 353 settings.
I think the guy on this thread was having the exact same problem that is fixed with the registry entry.
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2488&tstart=75
This problem will only affect a small amount of users, The fix that comes with the toshiba drivers needs the irish settings added, Then the problem will be solved by updating the drivers.
until then any irish people can fix their black and white tv signal by adding the above registry entrys.
for trouble shooting purposes here is a list of countries where the bug is fixed... If someone complains of black and white tv on the qosmio series, this list can be checked, and if the persons country is absent, it could be the problem. To fix the problem you need to find out their country call code (+353 is ireland, +44 is UK) You also need to know the settings to add, i did this by looking at the UK settings in the file ttv2_regdata_20050111.reg that comes in the "reg" folder that comes for the qosmio tv driver.
here is the list of countries that an update of driver will work for...

• Extracting Photograph Noise as a black and white layer from Photograph

I am looking to extract natural noise from a photographs material and create a black and white layer out of it, but I am new to photoshop and unsure how to proceed with this.
For example, here is a photograph of a hard plastic gun.

I have seen on forums where users will find a good reference image and use it to create a new black and white noise picture utilizing the reference.
For instance the hard plastic noise from the gun, might look like this once extracted and done correctly.

Any ideas on how to produce something such as this?
Thank you

This is just off the top of my head...  You could try something like this:
1.  Duplicate the image as a second layer.
2.  Run a noise-reduction tool with aggressive settings, possibly multiple times.
3.  Set the noise-reduced layer to Difference.
4.  Merge layers.
5.  Filter - Other - High Pass.
6.  Enhance the magnitude of the result with a curves or levels operation.

• Pixma printer adding color while trying to print black and white.

I've had this printer (Pixma MG5320) for about a year and a half now and recently noticed a problem with it.  I have been doing a lot of black and white photography lately (both digital and analog), and every black and white photo I print has some color fo it.  For instance I printed out a black and white digital picture I took recently that I edited using Nik's Silver Efex Pro.  Instead of the picture coming out black and white, it has an orange/red hue to it throughout the image, yet on my monitor it is void of all colors (except shades of black and white of course).   A few months ago I tried to print another picture, and it had a blueish/green hue printed throughout the picture as well.
I am printing all these photos via Photoshop, and even went into the settings to click on "grayscale printing" but the problem still persists.  The printer does this with both brand new ink cartridges and ones that have been used before.  I can't figure out if there is some odd setting in Photoshop that I may have accidently messed around with (though there really shouldn't be), or if it's an issue with the printer itself.  If I print a color photo, all the colors seem about right and I don't notice an off hue on any of them.
Does anyone know what could cause this?  I am just trying to troubleshoot the whole ordeal because it's gotten to the point where printing b&w photos is not in question until I figure this issue out.

• Why does my hp 2545 only print black and white?

my hp 2545 printer only prints in black and white. i have an hp 2545 printer and I've tried countless times to print in colour.
i tried scanning and printing a coloured page, and it printed the exact coloured picture. when i tried again to print a coloured picture from my mac, it rendered a black and white/ grayscale picture. i have also tried printing from other applications s/a word, photoshop etc, it still gave me the same black and white result.
my sister tried to print the same picture on the same printer using her MacAir, and it printed a perfect coloured picture. is there a problem with my mac?
can anyone help me with this please?

I'll try. kicheekins, when you print, you should see a dialog box that has various choices, Printer, Presets, Copies and a clickable window in the middle.  if you click and hold the mouse button down, you should see some options,  Layout, Paper Handling, printer features and Graphics. Click on Graphics. there you should be able to choose quality and black-white/colour. Other than that,. maybe your printer needs a hard reset. or try resetting the printing system. go into preferences, then print and fax, and press the ctrl key while clicking on your printer, and choose reset printing system. as for hard resetting the printer,  I forgot how to do that. go to www.hp.com and choose your printer, then go to the "Support" section and it'll tell you how to do a hard reset....
What OS are you running ? Tiger? I know it's not Yosemite or Mavericks?
Also--N.B-this forum is for Mac Pro's (the desktop computer, not portable). You have a Macbook Pro which is portable.  Although they both have the words Mac and Pro in them, they are NOT the same machine.  In future, please choose where you post your question
thanks

• Print in Black and White, NOT GRAYSCALE!

Hello,
I'm trying to print on my Mac in Black and White -- NOT grayscale.  The printer I'm using is a thermal printer that prints on heat-sensitive card-stock (a DataMax E-4203 printer) and when I print bar-codes on there the edges of the bar-codes are "fuzzy" as the Mac tries to convert it into a grayscale image instead of a pure black-and-white image.  With the edges being fuzzy instead of crisp, the bar-code scanner device I have simply cannot read the bar-codes.  If I use the software on a Windows machine, it prints the bar-codes perfectly, because in Windows I can set the printer to be Black and White, instead of Grayscale..
So, on a Mac (Mac Pro, OS X 10.7.3) how do I set it to print in pure Black and White, not Grayscale?
Thanks for any help you can give me,
Laurence MacNeill

You're taking a rather large loss on a new computer and spending the money on another one to fix one issue on an obscure piece of hardware? Do this instead.
1) Cancel the order on the Dell.
2) Use Boot Camp to install Windows on your Mac Pro. WAY less expensive to buy a copy of Win 7 to run on your Mac than the money you're planning to flush down the drain.
3) Get on the lazy butts of the company that make your thermal printer to write a Mac driver that has all of the same settings and features of the Windows driver. Which may not be easy as their site marks the printer you have as discontinued, though still supported.
DataMax has one heck of a crappy site. I've looked around a dozen pages and can't find something as simple as print drivers to download.
Yes, DataMax's web-site is awful... But they don't support the Mac at all, so even if their web-site was great, you'd never find Mac drivers to download...  The Mac driver for this printer comes from a company called the Peninsula Group, and they write drivers for dozens of different thermal printers...  They claim that they cannot write a driver that has all the features of the DataMax Windows driver, because of limitations of the CUPS printing system on the Mac...  I claim that's B.S., but how am I going to prove otherwise?
I considered running the Mac in Windows BootCamp mode all the time -- but then what's the point in owning a Mac?  Originally I was happy to be making the switch from PC to Mac...  But everything (not just printing, but nearly everything I do) is more difficult on a Mac...  Owning this machine has been the worst computing experience I've ever had...  No joke..  I've never had such trouble doing what I want to do...  Nothing works the way it should work.  Nothing.
If I had been using Macs all along, then perhaps I'd feel differently...  But everything is so different on a Mac, that I just can't seem to get used to it...  For crying out loud, the Home and End keys don't even work right!!  I hit End and I expect the cursor to go to the end of the LINE, not the end of the DOCUMENT!  (End of the document is what Ctrl+End is for, dammit!)  What the **** is up with that?!  And scrolling is wrong, too...  It scrolls up when I pull down on the mouse-scroll.  Everything is backwards on the Mac...  I've truly grown to hate it the more I use it...  I'll not be buying another Mac, if I can help it...  Wish I'd never bought this one...  Call it a very expensive lesson learned...

• Black and white photo shows up as a colour photo in iPhoto

Hi all,
Can someone please solve this mystery for me?
I took a black and white photo with my Nikon D40. It appears as black and white when I play it back in the camera.
When I transferred this black and white photo, along with other colour photos, to iPhoto, it showed up as a colour photo on my computer.
Why is this?
Thanks for any insight...

Lutetia
You didn't take a black and white photograph. Your D40 can't take a black and white photo, it can only take full colour. To make the photo look black and white the D40 set a flag on the file. This flag is an instruction: display me a certain way. iPhoto is not aware of the flag and so shows you the full colour pic.
