Black as grey???!!!

Well, I'm about to pull my hair out.  haven't had a big problem with this before but now whenever I open an Illustrator CS6 file in Photoshop, or save the files as jpeg/etc, my blacks are always turning out grey. I have tried using rich black and changing from CMYK to RGB to see if there's any difference, but nothing has worked. It doesn't seem to do it with text but with my detailed vector artwork or shapes, which is getting very frustrating when I need to save off a logo and all the little black pieces are dark grey. Does anyone know how to fix this??
Thanks,
Jennifer

You always need to work in the suitable document color mode.
Want RGB black? First change the color mode, then change the colors.
Same with CMYK.
And don't convert colors when opening the file in Photoshop

sorry my grammer isnt the best lol

While in the B/W desktop go to the System/Accessability preference pane and check to see if this checkbox is selected:
If it isn't toggle it on and then off again and see if there's any change.

it is possible that zoom maybe enabled i think double taping with three fingers should disable it.
or you can go into settings>general> assessability> zoom and turn it off.
    hope this helps

  • Photos are black or grey in Photoshop Lightroom

When you view your photos in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom on Windows, only a black or grey rectangle is displayed; you cannot see your photos.
    The linked
    Adobe Technote provides more information

This could mean any of the following:
You moved, renamed or deleted the photos (or the folders that contain them) outside of Lightroom (hint: if this is what you did, don't do that any more)
If the photos are on an external drive, the drive may be asleep or turned off
If you use Windows, it could mean that the external drive has been assigned a different drive letter
The fix is described here: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders
If the problem is a different drive letter in Windows, you could simply change the drive letter back to what it was yesterday

  • Text tool is only letting me type in white, black, and grey. How can I have it type in color? [was: Text]

The text on my photoshop is only letting me type in white, black, and grey. How can I have it type in color? I have tried to change the color but no matter what I do it leaves the text in grey/

What is the image mode?  Image > Mode - should be set to RGB
Do you have a B&W adjustment layer above the Type layer?
If you are not sure, it would help if you upload a screen grab of your entire workspace with the Layers and History panels visible.  Keep it at full resolution please.

  • Dock balloon text black on grey

Hi, after upgrading to snow leopard and running spyder3 color calibration, the text in the Dock balloons went black, e.g. the name of the application displayed when hovering the mouse is black on nearly black. The same black-on-grey/black text also appears in some installers now.
Other colors are just perfect. Though I can revert to a sRGB monitor profile / uncalibrated state, the Dock text stays black, and removing spyder3 doesn't fix it either. Checking color palette there are no unexpected black spots there, so i figure only Dock (and Finder?) color settings have changed.
So -- where are the font color settings for the Dock hidden?

Same problem. But wait. There's more.
When I edit a file name in Finder, the edit field is completely black such that I can't see what I'm typing until I've finished.
In Finder, using Icon view or List view, the background is black and I can't see file or folder names.
It is specific to my user only.
Problem started when I was doing a presentation using mini-DVI to VGA adapter.

  • Black screen, Grey Circle and an exclamation mark!  Why?

I'm using iPhoto 09. I can view photos as thumbnails in all Events. But when I click on them I get a black screen with a grey circle and an exclamation mark.  This only happens on some events, not all.  Whats happened?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Black Screen, Grey Screen, then flashing question mark, now frozen....

    hi everyone,
i know i have probably the most common problem - and i've tried to read all about the logic board problems which i'm fairly certain i have.
I realize i will most likely have to buy a new macbook - but before i do - i need to retrieve files that are on my ibook g3 (bought in early 2003).
This is what has happened in the past 2 days:
    1. I can hear the power start up (and chimes) but screen is completely black.
    2. Tried resetting PRAM and PMU, now blank grey screen sometimes appears.
    3. Now, grey screen with flashing question mark in the middle alternating with mac face. So i assumed this meant it couldn't locate my hard drive. So i found my ibook install disc and inserted it and restarted while holding down "C" key.
    4. Grey screen - with Apple (thought this was success) - then it turned to a large grey circle with a line through it (a slash). And then suddenly frozen.
Since then it has just been a lot of lines through the screen alternating with completely grey screen, etc. along with any of the above-mentioned outcomes. I tried pushing on the lower-left-hand corner of the computer and yes, it affects the display - more or less lines, etc.
How can i get my old files off of it? Do i buy a new macbook and connect them via fire wire cable and try that way? or will that not work if the above is happening? Or is it possible for someone (myself or perhaps IT professionals) to remove the hard drive from my old ibook and place it somewhere where i can copy over the files?
Any help is appreciated - i know this is a popular topic - i've just had so many weird outcomes in the past 2 days i'm not exactly sure which solution (if any) would work for me right now.
    Thanks so much!

    Hi Ronda -
I do have access to another mac (mini) with firewire at my work. Or I might go out and buy a new macbook this weekend as well (preferable since I don't really want my personal files on my work computer, etc.) But yes, i need to get my old files off of this one.
I have never added additional memory or anything to it really since I got it. So it should be the original specs:
    iBook (14.1 LCD 900 MHz 32 VRAM)
    256MB memory
    Combo (DVD-ROM/CD-RW)
    Hard drive: 40GB
Not a lot of space was remaining if i recall. I did get the 'disk full' notice a few weeks ago, but i did end up deleting a lot of stuff. Needless to say, i'm sure it was quite full, but not at maximum when this happened.
Update: Last night i tried to start it up again, and it would ONLY go to a black screen this time (ie. no display at all). What do you think i should do?

  • New iMac Can't See HD and screen goes black then grey then black..etc.

Hi I've got a new 20" Alu iMac and it was working fine for the past 3 weeks. All of a sudden this morning starting it up the screen went completely grey then after a while the apple logo came on (I thought it was eventually starting) then it went completely black (this is normal just before the progress bar jumps in) but this time it didn't! , the screen just went to grey again and the cycle started again and kept going on like this for an hour. I tried starting up from the disk the iMac came with but under disk repair i could not see the HD and trying to reformat the HD it was just named 'Media'. When selecting the drive to format an error came up saying explain it could not be formatted in the selected format!!! There is only 2 options to format the drive.. Mac OS Standard and Unix.. Both did not work. Any suggestions? Thanks

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine. It's not clear if that applies under the 90-day warranty.

  • .PDF image's blacks look grey in Adobe Acrobat Reader

I need to save my design as a CMYK .PDF file and I have created the image in Photoshop CS6 in RGB, changed the image mode to CMYK, for black used C:40 M:40 Y: 20 K:100, and when saved the file as a Photoshop .PDF- it opens in Adobe Acrobat Reader looking washed out and grey. I only used three colors (black, white, and red) and the black is the most noticeably greyed out. The red also looks slighty washed out. But the weird thing is- when I open the .PDF in Photoshop, all the colors look right.
I've tried googling this and messing around in Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat Reader all day and just can't come up with a solution.
I don't know a lot about this kind of stuff so I'm really lost. I really need the file to be the right colors in .PDF. Please, can anyone help me?
Below is a comaprison image of the design .PDF file opened in Photoshop versus opened up in Adobe Acrobat Reader:
This is truly driving me crazy.

Thanks Viking, I was hoping to get some suggestions on how to go about creating PDF's from OSX (Quartz) that will look acceptable in the "default" PDF reader of clients and colleagues. Most are likely to be some version of Adobe so I'm wondering what others do in this situation.
I've tried using the PDF resident fonts and they still look quite "blocky and jagged" on Adobe Reader. They still print out fine - it's just the screen rendering in Adobe is sub-par.
I've sent a version of the doc in Word to a colleague who printed it to PDF on his PC and it come back looking much better on my version of Adobe Reader and quite good in Preview. Admittedly the version I PDF'd in OSX looked better on Preview.
So if you have a bunch of potential readers of PDF's what's the best approach to get them to render "acceptably" on screen? At this stage it would seem the solution is to NOT use a Quartz driven PDF tool (ie avoid any of the native Mac apps) and buy Adobe Acrobat or a Windows PC to produce PDF's from?
I get the feeling I must be missing something basic here? I'm not looking for publishing quality output, just a PDF where the fonts dont look flaky when rendered onscreen outside a Quartz environment.

  • Why does black turn grey when creating a pdf from InDesign CS5??

Why do blacks turn to grey when I create/export a pdf from InDesign CS5?

Unfortunately, things like this are rarely glitchy little programming errors but deep, by-design, problems with using colour management. Usually you are getting exactly what you asked for, just not what you want, and the more colour management options there are, the more likely this is.
There are many possible causes, but one of the easiest to do is and hardest to spot is applying a CMYK profile in InDesign export, and a different one through Photoshop settings. This is actually demanding that colours be converted for the worst! Since your print workflow will be different, a work-around of rich black is likely to make things worse.
So the first thing to check is whether the colours you indended made it to the PDF, indeed. Output Preview is the first tool to use (as well as inspecting plates, you can hover over points to check the colour mix).
Also, go to your PDF export under the "Output" tab which includes colour and PDF/X. Either send a screen shot, or read off all of the the settings there.

  • Black appears grey....

Ok... i'm sure everyone gets bored of this question but i have a rich black when i draw and fill with the pen tool and when i use brushes and strokes black comes out as 100k black... which is grey, whats the deal with this? My black preferences are all set to display as rich black.
    thanks

So the rich black brush stroke is working for you now?
Color, color management and color modes is one of the basics you should dive rather deep into from the beginning, since it has an impact on printing your work successfully.
You're right about layers. Layers in Illustrator help you to organize stuff kind of like groups do. You can do far more tricky things with them, but you need not bother about that until you've got a deeper knowledge of Illustrator - it will most probably not get into your way.

  • TS2570 Startup:grey screen,then black,then grey,then white,then desktop. How can I fix this?

Normal startup, from grey screen to black screen, to blank grey screen, then blank white screen, then to normal desktop. All apps appear to work properly. Why the black and white screens? How can I fix this?

This is the KB article you need: Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup
The printer problem is another story, and no I don't believe the solution is to upgrade OS X.
Could you please post a brand new question about the printers? This one won't get much attention if it is marked "solved" and the printer problem will require a new solution. Thanks!

  • Problem during rendering - Blacks turn Grey and weird!

    Hi guys,
Im using Final Cut Pro 7.
I rendered some videos that had a lot of black (dark) sections in the video.
On occasion, they show as all grey.
My original videos are clearly black, but somewhere during the processing in FCP7, the video gets messed up.
    any suggestions?
Here is a pic of what I see.
This is what it normally looks like:
