Black background behind icons

My husband upgraded my 3GS iPhone to OS 4 and now my photo is behind my icons. I don't like the way this looks as it makes it hard for me to differentiate my icons from the photo. How can I get the plain black background back? I liked being able to see my photo just on the "welcome" screen, not behind the icons. Thanks.

Unfortunately this feature is not built-in.
But of course it can be faked. Simply set this image: http://www.free-mobile-wallpapers.com/wallpapers/iphone-wallpaper-black.jpg as a wallpaper. It's completely black.

• Why can`t you change the black background behind icons

I just got an iPhone yesterday and the thing works great no problems at all .... except that you cant change the black background behind the icons only the `slide to unlock` screen.
how stupid you could even change the background on the old school nokia phones from 1998.
this should be something apple lets us do on the next release
what does everyone else think is there a way to change that black screen to a custom wallpaper WITH OUT HACKING IT. i dont believe in that and i would appreciate no one posting about hacking it.
if there is a legit way to change it that i havent read about please let me know. if not APPLE CAN YOU ADD THIS TO YOUR NEXT UPDATE

Not possible.

• How can i use wallpaper as background behind icons

Hi just wondering How can i use wallpaper as background behind icons. As a different background to the themed one?

Hi clarkkent26,
You can't do it yet, without jailbreaking the iPhone. I would recommend you to wait until June and you'll probably see some new application that will actually allow you to do so.
Hope this helps!

• Black Boxes Behind Icons– HELP!

Hi! I like making my own icons and then taking IconComposer (Developer tool) and having it make me a icns file. It works great, except anytime, yes anytime, I put any kind, ANY kind of custom icon on anything, instead of the background of the icon being transparent (alpha channel,) I see a big black box behind everything. If there isn't something on every one of the 32 or however many pixels in my icon, black shows up. HELP!!!!

OOPS! I must not of turned voice over to "off" as previously suggested. All situations resolved.

• Black flashing behind icon on dock

Hi,
Recently, active icons on my dock (i.e. applications I am using) have been intermittently having a black flashing shadow behind the icon itself. Is this a virus?
I always shut down my computer after use versus just letting it sleep.
Any help would be appreciated!

Do you mean the Applications icon on the right side of the dock?
It is the icons for your applications and they are stacked on top of each other.
The top icon will be the first app in your Applications folder and under that will be the next app in the Applications folder etc.
Depending on the size of the icons, you may see 3 or 4 icons on top of each other.
Here is mine.
The first few apps are 1Password, 1Password4, Adobe Reader and this shows those icons.

• Adding a background behind a video

I've been using quicktime to add a black background to my files. My files are 720x300 and I put a 640x480 black background behind them. I resize the 720x300 file to make it fit into the background.
Is there anyway to do this in FCE? I plan on buying a book so I can learn the program, I just wanted to try it out before filling my mind with lots of info about FCE.

It's the default behavior of FCE to place a black "background" behind everything, so yes.

Is this about using a lightweight theme (Persona) to style the user interface with a background image?
Are you using an extension that deals with such a theme?
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)

• Where has the black background box behind attachments come from?

Suddenly I have a black box behind any attachments. It is like a text box. It has not been there before!
If I choose to print to a pdf attachment in an eMail the attachment id superimposed on a black text box with an 'X' in the corner, click the 'x' the lot disappears. But if you turn the attachment into an icon and highlight it then erase it, left behind is a black text box into which any new typed message appears.
How do I get rid of this, any suggestions well received.
Thanks,
David

I get this when sending invoices from Market Circle's Billings.
One workaround I have found that works is once the file and a new message is open in mail, create a new message then drag and drop the attachment over then create your message in the new mail.
I agree though - need a permanent fix soon.

• Black background icons

The screen on my MacBook appears to have a black background like a picture negitive. The original background was changed by my son, and now I cannot change the screen back to a visible display?

Hi Jim680 and welcome to Apple Discussions!
You can change the background by opening *System Preferences* from the Apple menu and selecting *Desktop & Screen Saver*. You'll want to select a different desktop picture from the one you have. There should be plenty of choices available.
Best of luck.

• My lock screen just shows a black background and a User Name/Password dialog after opening the screen from sleep. How do I get it back to where it blurs my desktop image with the dialog and my account image displayed?

I'm not sure when it began, but now my Macbook Air only shows a black background and a User Name and Password dialog box when I wake it from sleep. It used to show my desktop background blurred with my user name and icon displayed with only a text field for entering my password. I'm currently using Yosemite (OS X 10.10.1) and all updates have been done. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I know this isn't a real problem, just an annoyance since I couldn't find how to change it back in the System Preferences.

I just have to point out that after looking at a related post (https://discussions.apple.com/message/22661092#22661092), it brought to memory that my issue most certainly began happening after I added some DoD certificates to the keychain. This obviously has something to do with it, but it still leaves me wondering what actually causes this to happen. :/

• ITunes 11 has black background with black text

I had previously set iTunes to use the dark grid theme. Now I've upgraded to itunes 11 but i'm stuck with cases where I have a black background and black text with no preferences option to fix it. (the same problem I had with the previous itunes version, even when i tried selecting a different theme it wouldn't change)
examples include the downloads window
And views like album view that the text changes color based on the album art, and the background is supposed to too but mine doesn't, so sometimes the icons/text will be unreadable. Like the close, play, shuffle, etc buttons in the screen shot below.
I have tried retinstalling iTunes several times between 10.6 and 11 to fix various bugs but it's never worked properly.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Very Big thank you All of you for your help !!! It's been an hour that I didn't know what to do to see which songs to chooses because of the grey typo on black background !!! Merci
defaults write com.apple.iTunes high-contrast-mode-enable -bool FALSE
Enfin sauvée après une heure de galère à chercher partout comment changer la skin de itunes 11 alors que c'était en fait un bug d'affichage !!!

• White background or Black background suited for long term watching ?

Hello,
I saw many desktop themes with white or light grey background a few years ago, but now, many of them turn into black background with white or blue or cyan or others color of fonts.
As a programmer, I am just curious about the theme: which type is suited for long term use of computer?
I have tried both, and found grey background is easy to read because it is similiar to read on paper, but it looks like a lighting-bulb!; black background with blue font is cool, along with less luminosity, seems free my eyes.
But another problem is the color choosing. With light grey background, it seems any color is right. But with black background, colors should be carefully selected, since some colors are not suit black background at all.
Grayscale is another one. With light grey background, I can easily tune my font in grayscale, like Japanese cartoon paper (I like it very much!), gracifully to distinct keywords. But with black background, it is ugly to use grayscale to distinct keywords.
How about your ideas?

I commented out the external logo calls (since the new logo area fits really nicely with this style), The sections I commented out can probably be removed safely, and I made the textbox post area more readable. Now I love the new webpage layout!
Here's the dark home page style I'm using, also based on Hrwa's archlinx homepage userstyle, but I havent made too many changes there, other than the package search box needed a little tweeking. I havent really checked the other pages, I do know the wiki pages have some issues with this style, if anyone else wants to help out
