Black background in ibooks

my background keeps switching from white to black and back again since I upgraded. How do i stop this or change it when it happens? I have an ipad mini and iphone5

If you open an ibook in the app and then tap the AA icon at the top right of it then you should get a popup with a series of options on it, possibly including one for 'auto-night theme' (the option might not show on all books) - if it shows then try turning it 'off' (it uses the ambient light sensor on the front of the iPad above the iPad's screen)
(hopefully you'll be able to see my image below, but there is a bug on these forums affecting images)

  • Black background for iBooks

Recently, I attended a conference and sat next to someone who was using iBook on his iPad and the book had a black background. He explained that he could choose from white, sepia, and black for page backgrounds. I got my own iPad today and downloaded iBooks, but can only see white and sepia backgrounds. Can someone explain to me how to get the black background?
    Thanks for any help

Under Settings > General > Accessibility there is an option for White on black. For anyone one else looking. The sepia option is available under fonts top right of the book while reading it in iBooks.
    Best.

  • My lock screen just shows a black background and a User Name/Password dialog after opening the screen from sleep. How do I get it back to where it blurs my desktop image with the dialog and my account image displayed?

I'm not sure when it began, but now my Macbook Air only shows a black background and a User Name and Password dialog box when I wake it from sleep. It used to show my desktop background blurred with my user name and icon displayed with only a text field for entering my password. I'm currently using Yosemite (OS X 10.10.1) and all updates have been done. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I know this isn't a real problem, just an annoyance since I couldn't find how to change it back in the System Preferences.

I just have to point out that after looking at a related post (https://discussions.apple.com/message/22661092#22661092), it brought to memory that my issue most certainly began happening after I added some DoD certificates to the keychain. This obviously has something to do with it, but it still leaves me wondering what actually causes this to happen. :/

  • Print quality of grey text on rich black background

I've been working on various print materials that require me to use a lot of grey text at various shades set on a black background. My understanding is that this can easily look terrible due to the misregrestation of the four colors. Here's an example of the kind of text I'm working with:
This is how I have things set up right now:
    Rich Black Swatch: C70 M50 Y30 K100
All text uses the same swatch at various tints in InDesign (15% tint for headlines, 25% tint for body text)
Body text size is 8 pt/10.8 pt, headlines are 14 pt
These are being printed on an offset press and the printer isn't local, so we don't get proofs. Is there are better way to set this up or is this the best I can hope for? Thanks for any help!

I wonder what type of paper are you planning on using for these pages?  Your total ink amount is 250.  What you should be concerned about is dot gain and ink spread.  Oh, nice rich Black on screen isn't so nice on press for a number of reasons.  Have you thought about using a Spot Black? Why use process if all you have is Black?  Unless, ofcourse, you have other elements that use process colors.  You have to know the press and the paper before you can make a judgement about the effectiveness of rich Black with screen tinted variants.  You could bite the bullet and let the file fly.  Or, you could use just Black with screen tint variants to lesson problems on press and with readibility.  No proofs?  No press check either?

  • How can I create a black background around a closeup of a flower?

I want to have some of my close-up pics of flowers on a black background. Is there a way to do this with aperture? I use aperture on both my iMac and Macbook Pro.
    Thanks for any help.

One way is to use Select>Color Range
Make a new Color Fill Layer>White
    (Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color)
Put a new color fill layer below>black
Just invert the layer mask on the top fill layer for the opposite effect.

  • My iTunes 11.0 (mac) has a black background colour and I can not see all of the information.  How do I change the background colour in iTunes 11.0 (mac)

My iTunes 11.0 (mac) has a black background colour and I can not see all of the information for each song.    How do I change the background colour in iTunes 11.0 (mac) so I can see check boxes etc.  My download window shows no information, it is entirely black.

Someone else in the forum told me how to do this.  If you have Onyx on your system then select Parameters, iTunes and turn off high contrast mode.  If you don't have Onyx, I'd suggest getting it.  It is freeware and used to help maintain your system.  Good luck

  • How do I change the background color to black? I'd like Photoshop's generated web gallery to display photos against a black background.

I can't find a place to change the background to black from white. I'd like Photoshop's automated web gallery feature to show photos against a black background once I open the htm file inside Firefox. I use a Mac with OS 10.6.7 (current) on my 27-in. iMac. Thanks very much

There are often many ways to do things, and c.pfaffenbichler's suggestion above is good.
However, as I'm very fond of Curves, I'd use Image - Adjust - Curves (or Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Curves) myself, and pull the black point of the blue curve up.

  • Can't remove black background of camera flare in tech blue HD...

I am modifying a template in Motion for the opening of an Industrial Video for a client.
I have isolated the lens flare and the lens flare rectangle, but cannot seem to export without the seemingly built in black background.
Can anyone tell me how to export the lens flare minus the black background, or where I can get or how I can create a lens flare on my own.
This is an emergency, any help would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    SMGHD

I did it and the background remains black. I either must be doing something wrong, or there is an inherent flaw in this program.
Do you know where else I may be able to search/create a lens flare that will export without a black background??
In any case, thank you for your help.

  • Black background in Acrobat 9?

Hi, I've just tested the Acrobat 9 _Reader_ The black background (compared to the gray one in Acrobat 9) is _horrible_. (Much too contrast compared to the white sheet.)
Is this black also in Acrobat 9? Is in Acrobat 9 any chance to change it?
    Thanks!

Just installed 9.0, having this same problem with the horrible black background.
Why haven't they included such a siple option as changing the background color.
I noticed that it is possible to change it in fullscreen mode, which i hardly ever use, as graphic designer i ike to see and check my documents at 100% size.

  • When I create an album and then try to watch it in slideshow, I get only a black screen with a white title.  No photos come up.  Also when I click on an individual photo in the album, I get a white exclamation point on a black background but no big photo.

When I create an album of photos and then open the album and try to watch it by selecting "slideshow" I get only a black screen.  The white title comes up briefly but then no photos, only a black screen.  Also when I go back to the album and click on a thumbnail, up comes a big white exclamation point on a black background instead of the enlarged photo.  Any idea what's going on?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Please Help Exporting PDF Portfolio and Black Background turns White

I am creating a PDF Portfolio in Adobe InDesign and I created a black background using the steps below. When I export the document into PDF form, the background turns to white.
I followed these steps to make my background black:
"Window>Color>Swatches to bring up the Swatches panel and double-click the Paper swatch. Change the Color Mode to RGB and move the Red, Green, and Blue sliders to 0 to change the swatch to Black. Click OK."
Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

You misunderstand what paper is for. Paper is quite simply the absense of ink or color.
By changing it, all you've done is show what something will look like printed on black paper. If you really want a black background you'll need to draw a frame, fill it with black and place it on the master page on it's own bottom layer. Lock the layer to prevent any problems.

  • Too small guide letters and black background on guide.

Thank you LakeTahoe, you will be added to my report
Rick.  I do plan on doing my own research and looking up users on other threads about this topic.
Let me clarify my request:  If you guys know anyone who has the same feelings towards font size on their X1 guide please let me know.  I am working with an Accessibility Supervisor who wants to compile this report. No other research is required other than getting in touch with me.
Please keep in mind this issue might not be fixed by dinnertime, but we need to present a solid report to our engineers in order to foster change. I appreciate your patience.

That choice is up to the individual but I am a 37 year veteran of the AV field. I am a CEDIA trained and certified home theater system designer and project supervisor. I am highly respected in my field. I might just know a thing or two about this.  Apparently everything works perfectly for him. Yes it does and I am quite happy about that. He's also appointed himself the keeper somebody's gotta do it... LOL of these forums and is quick to scold anyone who dares to offer a critique of the X1 platform if it has been previously posted. If I "scold" anyone it is because they complained before they researched the topic or actually took the time to learn the product. I am not fond of the "complain first, learn second" philosophy. 90% of the questions or concerns posted in this forum can be solved by a 30 second Google search.  Be assured there are those of us who have real issues with the X1 platform, Nobody has offer more help in this forum then I have. The "numbers" speak for themselves. That being said, there are many other helpful people in this forum who I have the utmost respect for and they know who they are.  who don't read every post and who actually believe the more an issue is reported, whether in a previous thread or a new one, some action may be taken by Comcast. Now that may be a naive view based on the number of issues that have not been fixed, addressed or at least acknowledged by Comcast, but we can hope that someone there is listening. Roughly two months ago, I exchanged emails with a Comcast employee who hinted people that NEEDED to pay attention to this forum might not be... I was a bit disappointed.
I stand everything I have said about guide font size and legibility. I think it is wonderful in it's current form. But I have always said I support the ability to adjust guide size which the original X1 guide offered (but very few people used). If Comcast restored the ability to adjust guide font size, I would be all for it. I would set it smaller on at least one of my TVs.

  • Mac Mini 2014 Boots With Black Background/White Apple

Mac Mini Specs: 2014 Model with 2.6GHz processor, 8GB RAM, 1TB HD, Intel Iris Graphics, Mini-Display Port to DVI adapter with Dell monitor
Issue: When booting the Mac Mini up it goes through a very standard Yosemite boot but the background is black and the apple and progress bar are both white.  The issue is entirely cosmetic in nature and doesn't seem to have any negative effects.  What I normally expect and have seen in 30+ macs upgraded to Yosemite is the same loading but with a grey screen.  It's worth noting that I have noticed this issue on 2 iMac 2010s that had been upgraded to Yosemite that belonged to some friends, but their issues were intermittent or fixed.
    Steps Taken:
Updated from 10.10 to 10.10.1 and installed all other available updates
Checked the Start-up Manager, Recovery, and Internet Recovery.  All have black backgrounds and internet recovery's globe is small then normal.
    Reset SMC and NVRAM
    Tested Safe Boot
    Erase and Reinstall OS X
    Removed all peripherals except monitor
Tested another monitor and DVI cable
    Tested HDMI without the adapter
Replaced Mac Mini with new Mac Mini
    Questions:
    1. Have you seen this issue before and what are the specs of the device it occurred on? (OS, Model, Year)
    2. I wonder if this might be expected but can't find anything to reference that it would be and didn't get any answers even when asking people at the store or over the phone.  Have you seen any articles/pages that talk about this issue?
    3. Can you think of anything else to try and resolve this?

This is normal for the newer machines running Yosemite. There's nothing wrong.

  • How do I remove the black background when displaying photos in iphoto 8

After upgrading to iphoto 8 my photos now sit on a black background when viewed from album, library or events. I have changed the slider from black to white in Preferences/Appearance but it only changes the display background for when the thumbnails are shown. The moment I click on a photo it displays at full size with an annoying black background. In previous versions it displays with a grey or white background.
Can anyone help with some advice before I reinstall iphot0 6. Thanks

    wordleader:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. For the background in albums and in the Photos window use the Background slider in iPhoto's Appearance preference pane. In the Events window where you see the square events you can't change the background color.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • External Displays Black Background

I work with two external displays and yesterday I unplugged my MBP to go to a meeting. When I returned and plugged my monitors back in both their backgrounds were black. They work fine and I can drag applications into them and be displayed but I can't shift the black backgrounds.
If I open system preferences it launches fine and if I select Desktop & Screensaver the panes launch in all three monitors and display their current background. If I change the background it changes in the preferences pane but not the actual display. If I mirror all monitors it displays fine on all three. The only inconsistency I've noted is that when adjusting backgrounds the pane on the right hand display adjusts the background in the central (primary) monitor. This right hand display is also the actual laptop with the two external display positioned to the left.
Obviously not a critical issue but I would love to get to the bottom of it.

    Hi rossmatt06,
If you are having intermittent issues with the external displays connected to your MacBook Pro, you may find the following article helpful. In particular, if at all possible I would test with different adapters to try to rule out an incompatibility.
