Black Background in Maximized Screen Mode

I am having a recurring problem with the background going black rather than 50% gray when using Photoshop in Maximized Screen Mode.  I am currently running CS3 on Mac Pro 8-core with latest OS 10.5.8.
I had the same problem before on my PowerMac Dual Core.
On installation it operates normally with the gray background.  Trashing preferences resolves the problem but it comes back.  Might I be inadvertently hitting some keyboard command that is causing this to occur?  Other thoughts on a solution?  I have searched documentation to no avail.
Thanks,
Alan Karchmer

Yes!!! This works.  Thank you.  I hope it does not continue to recur.  I would like to know what caused this in the first place.  I never use the paint bucket tool.  I often use the fill tool, though, sometimes with black as the foreground color.

  • CS3 Maximized Screen Mode - Reposition-Bug Workarounds

In Photoshop CS3, when you use Maximized Screen Mode (image window maximized to the PS workspace) with an image window that's zoomed to a level where scroll bars exist, and you switch to another image window in the PS workspace and then switch back to the original image window (let's say using Ctrl-F6 or Ctrl-Tab) Photoshop will reposition the view to the upper left corner of the image rather than leaving it where it was.
For me, this bug is 100% reproducible.
This bug is also referenced in these forums at the following topics:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bc3bd89
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bca160f
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c0561ea
I often carefully position 100% zoom-level images & alternate between windows for detailed comparison. It's extremely frustrating to toggle back only to be at a completely different location on the image window. I found this bug so maddening that I almost abandoned CS3 for an earlier version. It's still maddening, but at least I've found workarounds which I'll share with you here:
    1) after opening an image and zooming to the extent that the above bug exists (scroll-bars available), press F and then shift-F (or vice versa) to switch to a different Screen Mode and back (problem goes away *for this image only* until the Zoom level is changed significantly - at which time you must repeat the workaround.) Repeat for every image for which you'd like the position to remain stationary when alternating to other windows and back.
    2) click on Screen Mode button at the bottom of PS Toolbar and choose Maximized, (even if you were already on Maximized.) This has the same corrective effect as 1), above.
    3) On a "fixed" image, if you forget to "reset" the fix after changing the zoom level significantly & you "lose your place" after alternating between windows (jumps to upper left corner), you can "recover" the previously "fixed" position by returning to the previous zoom level and switching to another window and back. It returns to the previously "fixed" location instead of the bug-altered PS chosen location of upper left corner!
    4) Use a Screen Mode other than Maximized & this issue never occurs.
Adobe, this *really* should be addressed and corrected. I'd think this is much more serious than the "sticky menus" bug of CS2 that was fixed.

  • I want the black background in full-screen

I liked the old black background in full-screen option in Pages. Is there a way to get that back?

    Blackboard paint on your screen?
Part of the new, improved, simpler way to do things in Pages 5.

  • Help ASAP black background on Menu Screen

hello, this is urgent i need to finish theis dvd by tonight so u quickreplies would help me greatly.
i've just a burnt a dvd and it works all fine apart from everything on the main menu screen is black apart from the highlight of the buttons, although the buttons or drop zones arnt there either. All of the other menus work fine, its just the main one. for the background i have used a jpg and i have used 2 drop zones with video in them, and videos in 5 of the buttons. it all works find when i use the smulator to see what its like, but once i burnt it and put it in my DVD player it will play and everything, but the main menu is all black apart from the button highlights.
any idea?! i simply need to finish this tonight!! plleease!

I mention this workflow because this exact thing has happened to me in the past: a black menu background where only the overlay worked. A rebuild (deleting the old build) worked. As for new location or old, it really doesn't matter, so long as you do a fresh build.
And you don't need to necessarily burn a DVD-R. Open your OS X DVD player and point it to the Build folder (on your hard drive) and if you see your menu correctly, you should be good to go.

  • How do you change the black background in full screen edit?

I want to change the background colour in fullscreen edit from black to white. Can this be done?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
No. The general theory is that the pics are easier to edit against black.

  • Pages - Background Color in Full Screen Mode

I love Pages. I use it every day. It has amazing functionality. That said, one of the updates a while back has me scratching my head.
I have two questions about full screen mode:
    1. What happened to the all black background in full screen mode?
    2. Is there any way to get the all black (or really any color but the horrible grey) background back when in full screen mode?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    -Ay Gee

Pages v5 and minor releases was an entire new design, document architecture, and did not begin with Pages ’09 code. Therefore, your black background was never in v5, as well as the 100 or more missing features mentioned by Peter — and whose restoration is beyond incantation.
You can always poke Apple with a stick and request the return of the black background.

  • Black background

Preview is displaying TIFF images that I download with a black background and white lettering.  Is there a way to change this to the normal view of black on white?

It seems to me that naming of this update was misunderstooden.
BlackUpdate is the name of Nokia Update "Package" for Lumia Phones containing Microsoft GDR3 update for WP8 OS and several Nokia Updates (for example Glance 2).
The name Lumia Black does not mean Black Background or Glance Screen. Glance is part of the update (depending on device).
Availibility of glance depends on the display tecnology used by the phone. That's the price you have to pay for a lower priced smartphone.
The cheaper the phone the cheaper the components (display). Sorry
It is like anywhere else. To use the full functionality you need to buy the more expensive models.

  • Finder stuck in full screen with black background on one monitor

Just upgraded to Mavericks on launch day and a day or so later when I went to change the new Mavericks desktop backgound with another image, the Finder appears to be stuck in full screen mode, but raising the mouse to the top doesn't reveal the normal drop back to exit full screen. The background is black as well. When looking into what the OS thinks is the background image, it does show the image that I choose, but I can't see it.
I've rebooted and also tried to reset the desktop by going through these steps:
1: Click "Go" at the top of the finder.
2: Hold down the "Option" key and click "Library"
    3: Open the "Preferences" folder.
    4: Find the file "com.apple.desktop.plist"
    5: Rename it to "com.apple.desktop.plist.old"
    6: Reboot your computer.
... but this did not resolve the issue. Any ideas?

I don't even have that file in my Preferences folder. It used to be there in Mountain Lion. Now one of my script won't work because of that.
But I don't have similar problem that you described. I can assign different desktop backgroud images just fine.

  • Change Background on 3d Widget in full screen mode

    Hey,
I am trying to have a custom background to my 3d widget that will be seamless from the regular size to full screen. So far if I want a photo in my bg I choose none for the Inspector > fill and then place it ontop of my photo in my book, however that photo goes away and the background turns black whenever you click to go to full screen mode on the 3d object. Is there any way to get that photo to be in the "full screen" bg as well as the regular book situation?
    Thanks,
    Stephany

You can choose a background color or you can set the contents to a max size but I don't think you can stack up both contents image and background image once an image is tapped and popped large, sorry.

  • Background color in Pages 5.5.2. full screen mode

I updated to Yosemite, and my Pages updated to 5.5.2. It used to be that when I went into full screen mode in Pages, the background color was black. Now when I enter full screen mode, the background color is pale. Is there a way to change it back to black?

There is no control over background color with Pages v5.5.2 in full-screen, or normal mode. If you had Pages '09 installed before the installation of Pages v5, then it was silently moved to /Applications/iWork '09. You could use the older Pages and have your black background.

  • HT2506 Change Full Screen Mode Background Color in Preview

Is it possible to change the background color in full screen mode from black to white?

It is not set up to make this change in Full Screen Mode.
However you can change the background of the open file by Preview>Preferences>General>Background Color

  • Is there any way to get the black background color back in fullscreen mode?

The current background color in fullscreen mode is grey and it's distracting.  It used to be black.  Is there a way to change the color outside of the document boundaries?

The only way you can get themes for your ipod is by a jailbrake, jailbraking is illegal, and yes,, you can downgrade your iOS.
Jailbreaking is actually not illegal due to exemptions in the DMCA documentation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_jailbreaking#cite_note-22).
I've got no explanation on to why the trusty interface for the old iPod style app was butchered, unfortunately (I think we're all at a loss, besides someone being given too much free reign). I came here to supplement the original question with, another alternative question:
Is there a way, similar to downgrading 3rd party apps, downgrade the Music app or restore the old iPod app as an additonal app? Without jailbreaking?

Downloaded a movie from iTunes to my iPad. 2 minutes into the movie it stopped and My Videos is stuck in black screen mode. So basically rented a movie and never watched it.

The EXACT same thing happened to me last night!  Rented a movie; it had barely started and then froze.  When I touch the video app icon, all I get is a blank, dimly lit screen.  None of the other videos I own will display either.  Was your problem ever resolved?

  • When I create an album and then try to watch it in slideshow, I get only a black screen with a white title.  No photos come up.  Also when I click on an individual photo in the album, I get a white exclamation point on a black background but no big photo.

When I create an album of photos and then open the album and try to watch it by selecting "slideshow" I get only a black screen.  The white title comes up briefly but then no photos, only a black screen.  Also when I go back to the album and click on a thumbnail, up comes a big white exclamation point on a black background instead of the enlarged photo.  Any idea what's going on?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Themes work in Thunderbird - duggabe was not refering to Firefox.
Another useful addon is theme and font changer:

However, Thunderbird allows you to modify all sorts of things.
Make hidden files and folders visible:

    Help > Troubleshooting Information
    Click on 'show Folder' button
a window opens shwoing profile folder name
Close Thunderbird now - this is important
In the profile name folder, Create a new folder called '''chrome''' - note the spelling
It should be in the same place as the 'Mail' folder.
    see first image below.
    Open Notepad
Can be located : Start > Programs > accessories
Copy everything shown between the lines below.
    Paste into Notepad.
Save as '''userChrome.css''' - note the spelling (edit updated - this was a typo error)
This should be saved in the '''chrome''' folder.
    see second image below.
    Restart Thunderbird.
I have chosen a yellow for you
    <pre>
    #f6f58c = a yellow....it is a hex code for a colour.
    </pre>
You can change it if required. Remember when updating anything in the profile folders, you must close Thunderbird first.
