Black background in PDFs from ai

I'm having a problem with various vector clipart created in Illustrator CS3. When exported as a PDF or placed in InDesign CS3 and then exported as a PDF, parts of the image that preview as transparent become black. I have attached a sample ai file with the original graphic and then the PDF error.
Please let me know if anyone has resolved this.
Thanks for the help.

Try select all on the dancer subject and do a Pathfinger>Divide while holding down the option key. I'm not sure what your are doing to Export a PDF because this is not one of the options in the Export dialog in Illustrator.

  • Black background on PDFs and AI files

    I'm sure there's a simple explanation, but I can't find it in the documentation. When I drop a PDF from the Browser onto the Canvas, it imports as expected; i.e. it's transparent and reveals whatever is below it. When I drop the same file from the Browser onto the Timeline, using Composite, or Insert, or Overwrite, or Exchange, it brings the file in with a black background that is the size of the PDF or Ai bounding box. What's the difference in how these files are being handled? Thanks in advance.

  • How to create black and white pdfs from autocad drawing

    I am trying to create a pdf from autocad drawing with searchable text.  Using the default acad pdf driver, it will create searchable text for only TT fonts with width set to 1.0.  We use the monochrome plot settings so pdfs are all black, even if drawing was in color.
    Using 'create pdf' from Acrobat Pro, Acrobat pro will create a pdf from the autocad drawing easily with all text searchable, shape fonts, TT fonts, no matter what the width.  Fantastic.  However, there is no option that I can see to create the pdf in just black and white.  It creates the pdf in drawings original colors.  How do I create a black and white pdf using acrobat pro?  Thanks.

    The only way to change the color of the printouts from your iPhone is through HP's free mobile app "HP ePrint Home&Biz". This is available in the App Store.
    Simply download and install the app, choose a file to print from within the app, then press the icon at the bottom right of the screen that is a wrench and printer. This should then give you the option to choose the color output. Make your selection, press "Done", then press "Print."
    If you are not seeing this option, you may need to setup ePrint for the printer and then register the app. This registration will also give you more functionality with the app.
    If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided!
    Although I work for HP, my posts and replies are my own opinion and not those of HP.

  • Problems with black color creating PDF from Excel 2013

    Hi
    I want to create PDF from Excel 2013 using Adobe Acrobat distiller. When I do so I have problem with black which is 300 percent black instead of 100K. Problem is only with drawed lines from Excel's symbol menu (text is fine).
    I use Acrobat 9 Pro and few days ago switched from Office 2000 to 2013.....and problems started.
    Office 2000 and Acrobat 9 Pro worked ok and everything including drawed symbols like lines or squares were 100K black in PDF. Now in the case of Excel 2013 it is not so but when I use export function included in Excel and export file to PDF output is 100K. I am not sure if this kind of export is good for me. I use PDF's as inputs to InDesign. So I would like to have more control when create PDF from excel. But in Excel setup I can choose standard and minimum size and that is all.
    I imported Adobe PDF Settings from computer where these settings worked with Excel 2010 but they do not do same job for me in combination with Excel 2013 (I have 300 black).
    To explain my workflow:
    I am a publisher of crossword magazine and I use Excel to write crosswords. Then I create PDF's and import them into InDesign.
    Should I use internal export included in Excel 2013? Are these PDF's ok for working in InDesign and finally for print purposes?
    Or If you have any suggestion how to create PDF via Adobe Acrobat distiller setup (which I prefer) please give me advice.
    Thank you in advance
    Juraj

    These are tough issues I suspect and the answer you need is probably trivial (it is finding it). I will make some suggestions, but I have no idea if any will work.
    -  In the printer under the Properties>Layout>Advanced>print quality, I use 300 dpi (default is 1200).
    - Under the printer preferences>settings>edit the settings file, I use again 300 dpi (default is 1200 dpi).
    These may not fix your issue, but migth be worth a try. You could also try using the preflight script to change to gray-scale. It may not make any changes, but again may be worth a try.
    All I am trying to suggest are the things I would be looking at. Maybe they will lead you someplace. Others may be by with better suggestions in time.

    In an exported pdf-presentation, a black background always fits the page to landscape format.
    But I want to use it in upright with a Tablet-PC, so the Page should not have a black background.
    Does anybody know how to disable this function so that the pages only include the in the editors made documents?
    Thanks for all replies!

  • Make Black and White PDF from Color JPGs

    I don't have a scanner and use my digital camera to make 2-3 page document PDFs occasionally.  I take a picture of a page, crop it in an image editor, and finally drag and drop the jpgs into Acrobat to create a pdf.  The problem is that these docs don't print very well because they are created in color.  Is there an easy way to make them in black and white instead of color?   I don't want greyscale documents, because they don't print very well either.

    ~graffiti wrote:
    Grayscale would be the way to go to retain shadows and tints.
    I'm dealing with text-based documents on colored paper, so shadows and tints are exactly what I don't want.
    Printing a greyscale image on a laser printer produces the same result as printing the original image in full color.
    I'm not sure what you mean by that. Could you elaborate a bit?
    I use a non-color laserjet.  Printing a color document with a black and white printer and printing a greyscale document converted from that doc will print the exact same thing, i.e. black text with nasty grey backgrounds.

  • Problems Background Printing PDF from C# Application

    Hello,
    We are having a lot of problems trying to print a PDF file in the background using a C# application that is executed via SQL Server Agent. The output should be printed to a local printer (HP Color LaserJet 1600) connected via a USB port.
    We have a C# application that calls System.Diagnostics.Process to run Acrobat Reader (weve tried both v8.0.0 and v8.1.2), open an existing PDF file, and send it to the local printer. The code is shown below.
    System.Diagnostics.Process process = new System.Diagnostics.Process();
    process.Refresh();
    process.StartInfo.Arguments = "/t C:\Temp\TestPDF.pdf"; // and tried "/t C:\Temp\TestPDF.pdf PrinterName"
    process.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = false;
    //process.StartInfo.Domain;
    //process.StartInfo.ErrorDialog = false;
    process.StartInfo.FileName = "C:\\Program Files\\Adobe\\Reader 8.0\\Reader\\AcroRd32.exe";
    //process.StartInfo.Password;
    //process.StartInfo.UserName;
    process.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false;
    //process.StartInfo.Verb = "Print";
    process.StartInfo.WindowStyle = System.Diagnostics.ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden;
    process.StartInfo.WorkingDirectory = new System.IO.FileInfo(m_PDFPathFile).DirectoryName;
    process.Start();
    Weve tried just about every combination of the process objects properties trying to get the PDF file to print. But, it never works. The code executes without error, just nothing ever shows up on the printer.
    More info Were executing our custom C# application via a SQL Server Agent job. SQL Server Agent is running as Local System account. The Job Step Type is Operating System (CmdExec), with Run as set to SQL Server Agent Account. The command is simply the path and file name of our custom C# application (e.g., C:\Temp\PrintPDF.exe).
    Again, we get no errors/exception and no job failures, but the PDF never gets printed.
    How can we re-code or fix our situation?
    What can be done/tried?
    All help is appreciated. We are stuck.
    Thanks.

    > Server Agent is running as Local System account.
    You'll need to login as Local System, and make sure it has the print driver installed. Most likely it has no printers that it can access.
    Reader displays errors in dialogs, so it's likely that you have lots of invisible dialogs with errors on them.
    To login as System, use the "at" command:
    c:\> at 13:30 /interactive "cmd.exe"
    Just use a time a minute or two in the future. When the new command prompt opens, type this in it:
    c:\WINNT\System32> start acrord32
    Now, you are running Reader as the System user. Load a PDF, and try to print. You will most likely get an error dialog.

  • Issues with black psd files on black backgrounds when exported to PDF.

    Hello there,
    I'm having an issue since I upgraded to leopard and moved all my stuff from my old macbook pro (running OSX 10.4) to my new macbook pro (running OSX 10.5). CS3 didn't seem to have any problems before but now when I export an Indesign file with a black background containing a photoshop layered tif with a black background to pdf, the appears to be a big difference between the blacks - the Indesign file's black appears to be a mid grey.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Here's how it all looks in InDesign: http://aycu14.webshots.com/image/48613/2005862333507831436_rs.jpg
    But this happens when exported and viewed in Acrobat (or preview etc.): http://aycu02.webshots.com/image/49801/2005871851784365159_rs.jpg

    In ID prefs go to Appearance of Blacks
    and set both instances to display Blacks Accurately.
    You will need to measure the rich black in the Tiff and make a rich black swatch in ID and use that for your book cover. now the blacks will match.

  • Black and white PDFs printing in changing colours from preview

    I am often printing black and white PDFs from preview with my HP PSC 1510 All in one printer and scanner. After updating to OS 10.6, my PDFs have been coming out in colour. They usually start in black, then change in the middle of a line of music or text to purple, red, blue and green. The longer the document, the more different colours I get. This is not occuring when printing black and white documents from NeoOffice, only when printing black and white PDFs from Preview. As this is what most of my printing consists of, this is extremely annoying.
    I am high on black ink, as I recently changed catridge and I have also made certain that the printer driver knows this by using the printers and faxes preferance panel and selcting the" levels of material" button to update this, and it seems to understand that I am high on black and low on colour, but still the problem occurs with every PDF i print. (If this button is called something else, but similar, that is because I am using a norwegian system and don't actully know what it is called in the english OSX.)
    There is no "print in black and white" button in the printer dialog either, so I can't fool the printer to print in black and white what it perceives as colour in my black and white PDFs either.

    Be sure you have applied both the 10.6.2 update and the absolute latest drivers for HP from Apple:

  • How do I remove the black background when displaying photos in iphoto 8

    After upgrading to iphoto 8 my photos now sit on a black background when viewed from album, library or events. I have changed the slider from black to white in Preferences/Appearance but it only changes the display background for when the thumbnails are shown. The moment I click on a photo it displays at full size with an annoying black background. In previous versions it displays with a grey or white background.
    Can anyone help with some advice before I reinstall iphot0 6. Thanks

    wordleader:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. For the background in albums and in the Photos window use the Background slider in iPhoto's Appearance preference pane. In the Events window where you see the square events you can't change the background color.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Spot color printing to PDF from IDCS3

    I've created a simple 3-color document in spot color (200, 465 and black).  The black is the background and the 2 other colors are in a logo and some added text.  When I export to high-quality PDF the 200 and 465 spot colors are preserved but the black background shows as CMYK when I look in Ink Manager.  The black background was picked from the swatches menu which shows it as K=100.  How do I make sure my PDF will have 100% black and not a 4-color black when printed?

    Do you have your blacks set to output accurately?

    No. The general theory is that the pics are easier to edit against black.
