Black background on cut out shapes (photos)

Hello.
Here is my problem: I'm working with a photo of a flower. I'm working in Photoshop and I have deleted everything around the flower so that it is a flower shaped picture. I cut it and pasted into a page on iWeb. The first time it worked grate. Both in iWeb and in a browser. The second time it looks right in iWeb, but when I publish to folder and open it in a browser, a black, square background appears.
WHY?
PLEASE HELP. I just can't figure this one out. (I've been looking in the forum but found nothing)
Thank you all in advance, Cirrous

Hello Cirrous welcome to the forum,
If you want a _transparent image_ export as gif or png from photoshop and bring into iWeb or make jpg image background same color as webpage background.
Best of luck to you.

  • Cut out shape

I'm relatively new to illustrator on mac but have working knowledge of the tools.
What I can't figure out is how to cut out a half circle inside another shape. For example, if I have a circle that is solid black, I want to put a few curved hash marks so the background color comes through. I've tried many different ways.
    Any help is really appreciated!
    thanks,
    Justin
    Specs:
Illustrator CS3 on Macbook Pro w/ Leopard 10.5.4

Use your Ellipse tool and create a full circle. I would use the delete anchor points method; delete two anchor points so you end up with a quarter circle. Convert the stroke to outlines and place the quarter circle on top of the circle. Dupe and scale the quarter circle as many times as your design requires. Select all of the quarter circles, place on top of the original circle, select all and create Compound path, that should open all of the quarter circles so the background color shows through.

  • IMovie - I don't want to see black background - Want only to see photo

What size does an image (photo) have to be in order that I see only the picture and not added black background?  Seems like some look fine and others have the black added to it.

If your project is HD dimensions, your photo should be 16:9 (e.g. 1920x1080)
If your project is standard def, it could be either 16:9 or 4:3 (e.g. 720x540)
You can do this within iMovie by using the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burs tool on the middle toolbar.
Use FIT to use the entire photo, but with black bars.
Use CROP to cut off the top and bottom, but what is left fills the frame.

  • Cutting out shapes

I cut out my shapes in adobe ps touch by clearing the background. I save the image in creative cloud, and then share the image via email. When I open the image on my computer, the "cleared" background has been filled-in with white space. How can I truly "cut out" the shapes in ps touch the way I can on regular adobe ps? In adobe ps, I would normally just select the background and hit "delete" on my keyboard. How can I do this on ps touch?
    Thank you.

  • Cut out a photo in Photoshop, and when placing into Illustrator and InDesign it changes it.

We have photos that another employee cut out in photoshop, saved as a TIFF and tried to place into Illustrator. When he went to place it, the photo looks like it created a clipping mask but the image is flat.
this is what the tiff looks like in preview and photoshop.
and this is how it shows up when placed in Illustrator. It does the same thing in indesign.
I also tried saving it as a pdf and opening it in Acrobat, and it turns into the butterfly there as well. Does anyone have any clue as to what the problem would be?

    Solution found:
The problem originated in photoshop. In the Paths panel, somehow a path of the butterfly was created(still haven't figured out how) and we deleted the path and the problem was fixed.

  • Cut-out shape from jpeg in Illustrator CS2

    Hi,
I would like to "cut out" a dollar sign ($) shape from a jpeg image so that I can "see through" the dollar sign to what is behind it. I have attempted to do this several times using the Compound path tool, Divide objects below, and everything else I can think of. Nothing works. First, I flatten the jpeg image. Then I create outlines of the dollar sign. When I select the dollar sign and the jpeg and click on "Make Compound Path" I get the error message: "Can't make a compound path. A compound path cannot combine a clipping mask with an ordinary path." I do not have any problems cutting through a vector image. For some reason this jpeg is giving me problems. Can you help?
    Thanks

You want to set it up the same way and make an inverted opacity mask.
select the $ and the jpeg with the $ on top can be live text in case you need to change to pounds or euro.
then in the transparency panel select from the flyout Make Opacity Masks then in the transparency panels setting uncheck clip if selected and check invert.
    You should get this

  • Using the Pen tool to cut out shapes?

Hi fols, I am looking to make a stop frame animation, based on politics
and I plan on doing this all in Adobe Photoshop (i.e move the objects then file save etc t
hen sticking it all into imovie) what I was wondering is in order to cut out pictures of say politicians heads, I have tried using the brush tool to draw all the way around the head and then magic eraser to the background but do you think there would be an easier way to do this via the pen tool?

  • Cutting out shapes AE CS6

This will seem pretty basic but pls help a newbie learner!
I've created a logo using type and a shape (put simply).  Ive transofmed the type to my satisfaction and created the shape that is to be added BUT its in a different composition and its in line form on a white ground - i need it cut out/masked so that it works like the type does ie like a letter that can be scaled, transformed etc so it eventually looks just like one of the letters.  Adding the rendered shape as a layer just plonks a white square onto the type and masking it just masks the white square not the graphic.  How do i cut it out pease?

Every new user wants to have fun with AE right away, but please, please, PLEASE don't try jumping into the deep end of the pool.  You'll only end up frustrated because you need a LOT of basic AE knowledge to use it properly.
So do like every AE user has to do.  Start with the basics:

  • Background Audio Cutting Out

    Hey Folks,
Each time I preview the project, the background audio will
play during a few slides, then cut out completely. This is the
first time it's happened, however, I think there may be a causal
link to the insertion of swf files into a few of the slides.
Anyone know what the solution is? Thanks in advance.

Yes! I have the same issue too with me Motorokr s9 stereo BT headset and my Jawbone Icon -- This happens both when playing music via the iPod app OR when speaking on the phone. I can't put the phone in my pocket or else this happens!!! I also can't put it on the desk then walk around my 12x12 office without the dropouts. Having to hold the phone close to the headset kinda defeats the purpose. BTW, my 3GS worked almost flawlessly with these devices. I know, early-adopter syndrome but REALLY! I really rely on the BT headsets
Just got off the phone with Apple Support -- they were ver nice and helpful. They've scheduled me a Genius appt for tomorrow morning so they can run diags on the iPhone. They've also asked me to bring the headsets.

  • Cutting out shape to include overlapping fills

I work with pattern pieces (garments). I have a pant leg with a pattern fill that has porous (wool texture). I want to put a solid fill at the back to have the solid blue come through the woven texture. I want to end up with a pant leg that has the overlapped fills, blue and woven to give me the effect of the blue coming through only so need to clip out the pant leg from the layers. I've tried soft mix, creating a compound shape, various tricks in pathfinder. I can certainly clip out the pant leg shape with and without either the woven pattern or the solid blue but how can I slip out shape with both fills overlapped? All three layers are
    grouped.

    nathay,
As I misunderstand it, you may:
    1) Select the pant path (as in the screenshot) then Ctrl/Cmd+C+B to create a copy behind;
    2) ShiftClick the rectangle path on the Artboard or in the Layers palette to also select that;
    3) Object>Clipping Mask>Make or Ctrl/Cmd+7.
That should hide the rectangle part outside the pant path.

  • Cutting out part of a photo and reshaping

    Dear illustartors,
this may be a photoshop or illustartor question, I'm not sure. Here's what I want to do:
take part of a photo and cut it out - the shape isn't regular, something of a rough rectangle
take the cut out shape and reshape it, I need to move two oof the corners in to form a rough trapezium
I want the contents of the cutout shape (part of a photo) to shrink appropriately within the reshaped object... Imagine the shape is an old door, The shape wouldn't exactly be a rectangle because it's a bit beaten up; having cut it out I want to make the new shape but still see the edges, coners and panels, he new shap will be the same hieght on the left-hand side but reduced on the right-hand side - as if creating perspective.
    Is this possible somehow?
    thank you......................... liz

Thank you wade I will have a go!
UPDATE: yes that's good. I created a "sunray" using a line which I transformed to have as many lines as the mesh I used (actualy it had half the number plus 1 for the lower half of the sunray, then repeated the operation fo an identical line on top of the first but wit the ange of transformation = to 360 - the angle of the first line's transformation) and made the line long enough to get the perspective right, this I then used as a guide to move the mesh lines. The only thing I would have liked is to a) lock the verticalsin the mesh so I didn't move them inadvertently and b) if I could have moved the beginning and end point of a mesh horizontal and said now redrawn the line between these two points it would have been quicker. (I was using illustrator)

  • When I create an album and then try to watch it in slideshow, I get only a black screen with a white title.  No photos come up.  Also when I click on an individual photo in the album, I get a white exclamation point on a black background but no big photo.

When I create an album of photos and then open the album and try to watch it by selecting "slideshow" I get only a black screen.  The white title comes up briefly but then no photos, only a black screen.  Also when I go back to the album and click on a thumbnail, up comes a big white exclamation point on a black background instead of the enlarged photo.  Any idea what's going on?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • I want to cut out a section of a photo

I have a picture of my 1950 Studebaker Commander and I want to cut it out form the background and save to a file. I have tired using the crop tool, but it only lets me cut out in a square or rectangle shape. I know there has to be a way to do this!

As mike suggested, Photoshop Elements if very capable of doing what you want. Here's an example of that very thing.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

How do you cut out a part of an image on a photo that you have added to Pages. For example, if I have added a picture of a giraffe to Pages how would I cut out the giraffe from the image and get rid of the rest of the image

You can use the instant alpha tool to make the background transparent.
