Black band

I have a 30" ACD that has developed a grey/black area on the left side. It's not like the "bands" that other people have reported. This display is about 2 years old.
We've tried it on another MacPro, with another video card, and on the other channel of the video card.
Before we take it in for service, I wonder if anyone has seen anything like this and can offer any advice on resetting the monitor or solving the problem.

Thanks!

It did indeed require a new panel. $439.00.
I dropped it at the Apple Store, where, inexplicably, they needed to wait 5 days to get a box to ship it to the repair depot.
Thanks for the answer.

  • Black bands cut off full projection with DVI adapter

I used my DVI adapter for the first time today to connect my MacBook Pro (17") to a projector. I selected video mirroring from my System Preferences and ran a PowerPoint (for Mac) presentation in slide show mode.
The projector displayed the presentation but black bands appeard on my laptop display, which cut off some of the left and right side of the projected PowerPoint presentation.
Anyone know how I get rid of the black bands and get the full image from my laptop display projected?
(FYI, I use PowerPoint instead of Keynote because it's easier for my clients. I know, I know, that's sad.)

How are you actually connected to the TV?  Does it have HDMI?  Most non-widescreen TVs would not.
I would suspect a converter is either not outputting properly, your TV not interpreting the signal properly or you have some form of Zoom setting enabled on the TV.
How does your TV handle widescreen from say cable or terrestrial TV sources ?
Unfortunately AppleTV is not designed to be used with non-widescreen TVs so there's no setting on AppleTV to tweak.

  • How can I get TV shows viewed through Hulu Plus on the Apple TV 3 to show as widescreen with black bands above and below the screen shot instead of chopping off the sides on my non-widescreen TV?

I just bought a new Apple TV 3 today so I can watch shows from Hulu Plus without having to physically plug in separate audio and video cables from my Macbook Air to the TV every time. I have a non-widescreen TV and when I normally watch Hulu Plus on the TV (though Safari on my plugged in Macbook Air as mentioned above), the entire wide screen shot is shown with black bands above and below the sceen shot since I am watching a widescreen program on a non-widescreen TV.
However, I noticed that when I watch the same show through Hulu Plus on my new Apple TV 3, the left and right edges of the shot are chopped off to make the program fill my non-widescreen TV. This bothers me because I would like to see the full shot and not just the chopped off middle portion. This is a real bummber because watching Hulu Plus without having to plug in my laptop is the only reason I bought the Apple TV. Is there anything I can do about this?
    Thanks!
(FYI: I have the very first Macbook Air that is not capable of mirroring)

  • 2.5 inch black bands on either side of monitor

I just installed Mavericks 10.9.2 on my Mac Mini and strange things have been happening, among them are two black bands on either side of the display.   How do I get rid of the bands and get my display back to the full width of my screen?

In System Preferences > Displays there is a "Resolution" area. If the resolution is set to "Best for display", you should first make sure the monitor is configured correctly. If the monitor has an "Auto-Setup" function or button (most do), do that.
If that doesn't fix it, you can select "Scaled" and try the various choices as well as the "Underscan" control, which isusually left at "off".

  • I have a black band across my screen is it broken

I have got a black band across my screen on my I pad don't know how this has come is it an error or something, or is it broken.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • How to apply exactly the same black band, to exactly the same part of the page, to 100 pages?

    Hi there,
The more I refine my project, the more I tweak elements that, when I first created a Master Page, I didn't worry about enough.  So now, for example, I've created just the right size black band to be the background for each and every page (in the recipe part of my book), and I'd like to put it on each of these pages just like this:
    X:  8.4399
    Y:  -0.125
    W:  17.7198
    H:  1.5306
As I've been working on my book, it usually seems that when I copy something from one page to another, I have to shift its positionthis way and that.  Is there a technique I can use so that when I apply this new/improved black band to each page, it will be placed in exactly the same place everywhere?
I realize that I can go to each page and paste in the black band and then enter the X, Y, W and H listed above... but that's going to take me such a long time (and give me carpal tunnel).  This app is so smart, I'm thinking there must be a better way.
If someone knows it, I'd really appreciate learning it.
    Thanks,
    Malcolm

Get it positioned as desired on one page.
With it still selected > Edit > Cut.
    Go to your master page.
    Edit > Paste in Place.
You may have to reapply your master, depending on what else has transpired since it was set up. Then it will appear on every page to which the master is applied.
If it is best positioned "in the back" (it sounds as though that might be the case), you can paste it on a new layer and drag that layer to the bottom of the stack.

  • QT Conversion Export with DVCProHD 720p60 creates black bands. Help.

Help. A recent QT movie export, using the DVCProHD 720p60 settings, when opened in QT has thick black bands across the image. 3 on the left, 3 on the right and one right in the middle.
When I export using QT Conversion in DVCProHD 720p60 the exported film actually has these black bands in it.
Is this a codec issue? I recently downloaded the QT HD codecs and perhaps I installed the wrong one? Please help!

    Hey Nick,
I did exactly as you suggested but the thick black rectangles/bands still appear down the left and right sides and one smack in the middle. I'd send you a screen shot if I knew how. It seems to happen only with the DVCPro HD export but this is what the footage is in and anything else may screw with the image.
Could it be a codec thing? Any other ideas?

  • Black band on my 30 inch cinema display. Any known causes?

    Hey everyone,
My 30 inch cinema display is doing some wierd things which I havent encountered before.
If you can see the image, towards the LEFT SIDE CENTRE, there are these BLACK BANDS.
these start to appear after about 5-15 mins after the display is turned on. although they dont show up on bright backgrounds.
If I let to monitor cool down for 10 mins and start it up again they are gone and they start appearing again in about a min or two,
Has anyone seen any such issues before or is this a known issue with the 30 inch.
Any ideas on what I should do about this.
I will be taking it to Apple for sure as its still under warranty but would like to know
what is causing this and whats apples take on it.
    Cheers,
    Ani

I bought a 30inch as well a couple of months ago but have very little use except for watching movies. But when I use grey colour as the background the banding mark became very noticeable. It seems to be some kind of design issue i suppose and I dont know how Apple is going to address this. It's not a cheap monitor after all and i am very disappointed with this.

  • Has anyone received their 42mm stainless steel with black band watch?

HHas anyone received their 42mm stainless steel black band watch? Also curious if anyone has received a watch that was payed for in full or partial using a Apple gift certificate.

I hopped on the Apple Store app as soon as I could to order it.  It said the delivery date range was 4/24-5/8.  The confirmation email had a 3:03 EDT timestamp.
Interestingly, the 38mm model that I ordered at the same time arrived on the 24th, so there must have been something about the larger model or strap that delayed it a bit.   I also noticed that the Apple Store app began working a few minutes before the web site, which may have made a difference.

  • Black band video import

why does Premiere elements 10 Get Media now give a black band over the top half of the imported video (wmv files and asf files)? I re-installed  - no help. How do I getback to normal?

    This is that ANNOUNCEMENT:
ANNOUNCEMENT: Windows Update Causes Half of Display to Be Blacked Out
    Hide Details
MicroSoft has issued an Update for Windows, that is causing problems with Displays. The following is from Talbot McInnis, who tracked down this problem, and offers a fix:
"MS bulliten MS13-057.  Specifically, on XP kb2834904 and on windows 7 kb2803821 is causing a problem
For us, it occurs when decoding WMV9 files.  Not all uses of WMV decoding are affected, but I confirmed that when connecting the WMV decode DLL to a sample grabber for RGB32 video, the frames arrive black on top, so that points directly to decoding internals of the WMV Decode dll.
You can uninstall these windows updates to resolve your problem."
There are several threads on the problem that this Update is causing on the PrE and PrPro Forums, so one can get more details. So far, there is not another fix from either MS, or Adobe.
Also, see this Adobe KB Article: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/wmv-files-corrupted-import-or.h tml

  • Green/Black Band Across Encodes

I'm at the end of my rope here.  I've done so many clean installs over the past week, it's made me sick.  So the problem now, is that certain encodes from Compressor had a green band across about 75% of the screen (like a reverse letterbox).  The top strip above the band was a still image of the video, and below the band was the only video moving.
Anyway, after talking to the Pro Apps team at Apple, they recommended I do another clean install of Snow Leopard, then install all Pro Apps from the discs.  I haven't installed any 3rd party apps or plugins at this point.  I tested it out, and I'm now getting a black band across these encodes instead of green.  It occurs on encodes with frame controls on, or encodes where the sequence frame size is larger than the encode in Compressor.  All of these encodes work fine on my old Mac Pro.
I've tested the video card with TechTool Deluxe as per a suggestion from one of the Pro Apps Team members, and it all looks fine (I do know that it says it's not been tested with Snow Leopard).  I tested my RAM with MemTest, and it was all fine (although it is Crucial RAM, not Apple's).
What else could it be?  I'm calling Apple back tomorrow, but I'd love to hear any suggestions you guys have.
    Thanks,
    Lawrence

Here's the one sample workflow that produced these results:
Exported a Quicktime slideshow from iPhoto using frame size 1920x1080 and the Animation codec
Imported the QT file into FCP by dragging from Finder into the bin
Dragged the clip into a sequence, and said confirmed that FCP should change the sequence settings to match the clip
Ctrl-clicked sequence and chose "Export>Using Compressor"
Dragged DVD 90 Min High Quality setting and clicked "Submit"
    Another workflow as follows:
Opened finder and located a DVCProHD 720p30 file
Imported into FCP using cmd-i and browsing to clip
    Dragged clip into timeline
    Allowed it to change settings
Exported with same settings as above (but this export will only have green band if frame controls are turned on in Compressor)
It should also be noted that I've checked these files on my MBP and my old MP and they work fine.  Same workflow exports without problems.  I talked to Apple again, and they are submitting a log report from my new MP to the engineering team.
But I did also find another post indicating others with 12-Core Mac Pro's are having the same issues.  So the senior Apple Rep advised me that it is not Apple's job to ensure compatibility between new hardware and old software and unless a sales rep specifically advised me that FCS 2 would work with the new Mac Pro, I'm out of luck.
So I'm thinking anyone who's got FCS 2 and is considering a new MP should be warned.

  • Why should I have to buy a bulky space black band I do not like (Hate after trying it on) to get the space black stainless steel watch

Apple is going to lose a lot of sales over forcing you to buy combinations you do not want.  I went to the store to try one on. LOVED the space black stainless steel watch but the band that is attached to it is atrocious, bulky, heavy and uncomfortable.  So, if I want this watch I have to waste $499 on a band I hate and buy an accessory band I do like.  Well, I went in with every intention of ordering one.  Now, eh, I'll just wear the comfortable one I have.  Poor, poor choice to force bands on people.  I have six iPhone six's in my family, I got to choose, seven MacBook pro's of varying sizes and age, four iPads of varying size and age, and the new 5K iMac.  Now, the most personal item ever made is well, not very personal if I have to wear a bulky, uncomfortable band.

This is a user-to-user help forum. There is nothing that anyone here can do to help you. You could find the Apple feedback page and tell Apple in which case there's a chance that something might be done
