Black bands cut off full projection with DVI adapter

I used my DVI adapter for the first time today to connect my MacBook Pro (17") to a projector. I selected video mirroring from my System Preferences and ran a PowerPoint (for Mac) presentation in slide show mode.
The projector displayed the presentation but black bands appeard on my laptop display, which cut off some of the left and right side of the projected PowerPoint presentation.
Anyone know how I get rid of the black bands and get the full image from my laptop display projected?
(FYI, I use PowerPoint instead of Keynote because it's easier for my clients. I know, I know, that's sad.)

How are you actually connected to the TV?  Does it have HDMI?  Most non-widescreen TVs would not.
I would suspect a converter is either not outputting properly, your TV not interpreting the signal properly or you have some form of Zoom setting enabled on the TV.
How does your TV handle widescreen from say cable or terrestrial TV sources ?
Unfortunately AppleTV is not designed to be used with non-widescreen TVs so there's no setting on AppleTV to tweak.

Just get into "General" -> last option is "RESET" -> Opt for "RESET NETWORK SETTINGS"
Your phone will reeboot in a couple of minutes n then get fine on with full signal on the wifi scale.
Worked perfect for me. Do try n let me know.

  • IPhone Cuts off Full Screen Photos in Contact View

The iPhone can use a full screen photo of a contact (when a call is initiated), if the original is cropped in iPhoto as '2 x 3 (iPhone) / Portrait'. (To set up full screen view on the iPhone, the user must select a contact, tap the 'Edit' button, tap the contact photo, tap 'Edit Photo', tap 'Choose', then tap 'Done'.) However, the same photo is then cropped to a square shape when initially viewed in the Contact screen, often cutting off the person's forehead. A suggestion for improvement would be to have the iPhone use the square cropping settings of the original photo when it was added to Address Book (for initial Contact view), and then use the 2 x 3 settings when the call is initiated to have the photo fill the screen. Anyone have any workarounds?

    Hello
I have updated my software recently and the full screen default for the web browser is very annoying and causing my phone to slow down badly.
Has anyone been able to turn the Full Screen web mode default off??
Or how do you delete a software update.

  • Cannot get video on my tv screen with DVI adapter

I bought a DVI adapter from apple and i cannot display the image of my macbook on my TV screen. It works with a simple PC, but not with my macbook ? Is there a way to configure the resolution of the DVI port of the MACBOOK ?
    Please help...

First, let's determine which kind of display port you have on your machine.
This link is to a picture of the mini-DVI port. The mini-DVI port is to the right of the USB port in the image: http://www.cable-trader.co.uk/images/finder/mini-dvi.jpg
This link is to a picture of the mini-Displayport: http://www.roughlydrafted.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/200810201137.jpg
Let me know which image matches the connection on your computer.

  • New iPad with retina display with 30 pin connector mirroring to TV with dvi adapter problems after software update

Hi. Good day to everyone my New iPad with retina display 30 pin connector will not mirror to TV even with divi adapter after software update. Adapter works fine. Or is it a software glitch with IOS 7.04? I've tried resetting and reconnecting nothing seems to work.

That's one of the weird things.. it recognizes it maybe 10% of the time. And usually, only after I do the two-button reset. Problem is.. since it won't charge above 2%, anytime I try to do a restore or anything like that using iTunes, my device shuts off and I lose whatever progress I'd made.
So, an update... after reading through a bunch of similar complaints (there are literally 1000's of them so there's NO WAY this isn't somehow ios7 related, thanks a lot APPLE ) I decided to try a restore in recovery mode. After 3 hours and several disconnections... I ended up having to just set it up as a new iPad, as the restore did nothing. Weirdly though... as I was doing the restore in recovery mode.. I noticed I'd gotten up to a 10% charge.. higher than it's been since September, so after setting it up as a new device, I turned it off and plugged it in using the wall charger. 2 hours later and I was up to 38%. Still not great, as my iPad, before ios7 could've fully charged twice in the amount of time it took for me to now get 28% more of a charge. And that's with a fully cleaned out device.. so that really ***** and I'm now more confused than ever.
But I'm gonna leave it overnight charging and see what I come up with tomorrow. Sadly, when I paid $600 for it in February, I never expected to have to play "wait and see" with it...

  • Burning a Final cut Pro X Project with DVD Studio Pro

    Hi,
A project edited in Final Cut Pro X and Compressed with Compressor 4, can you then burn to disc with DVD Studio Pro?
I have DVD Studio Pro on my system but when I burn the project to disc using DVD Studio Pro it crashes all the time.
I'm wondering if DVD Studio Pro is not compatable with a 64 bit system?
    Advise is appreacated.

Thanks Tony that did it, I was using Burn but when I went to Build/Format the disc burned as it should, thanks

  • Resolution of built-in display with dvi adapter

I've connected my Imac to my Samsung DLP using a mini-dvi to s-video adapter. The display on the tv is fine, but the problem is that when ever the adapter is plugged in, I lose all widescreen resolutions for the built-in display. Does anyone know a way around this? If I used a mini-dvi to vga or hdmi adapter instead, would it do the same thing?
    Thanks,
    Julie

    Then leave the adapter connected to the Mac for two reasons;
    1. to prevent having to Detect and Adjust everytime it is connected.
    2. to prevent ware and tare / damage to the Mac's Mini DVI port.
Mirroring will always cause the Mac's resolution to change, the system is using the best resolution to support both Mac and TV display's.

  • New iTunes Store Songs Cut Off Early

I just downloaded two new songs from the Store. Each cuts off and ends with about a minute left. Having paid for both songs, I expect them to play. Is this fixable?

I have the same problem.  It's disappointing that there aren't more replies to this issue two years later.  I just delete the song from iTunes and then delete the song file in the iTunes Library.  Then I go back to the store and redownload it.  It asks if you would like to "purchase" the song again.  Say Yes.  You can download the song for free(You won't have to pay again). Then you have to listen to that song to see if it's complete. Sometimes I have to do this several times before I finally get the full song   WHY??? When there are several songs on one album that are incomplete this can be a very tedious process.  I bought an album today and a few of the songs are cut off like this.  So I'm off to try to get my money's worth...

I want to connet to video projectors, With vga adapter i can't connect to the video projector and also my mouse will not work properly, it becomes very slow and I can't work it. • How can I get TV shows viewed through Hulu Plus on the Apple TV 3 to show as widescreen with black bands above and below the screen shot instead of chopping off the sides on my non-widescreen TV?

I just bought a new Apple TV 3 today so I can watch shows from Hulu Plus without having to physically plug in separate audio and video cables from my Macbook Air to the TV every time. I have a non-widescreen TV and when I normally watch Hulu Plus on the TV (though Safari on my plugged in Macbook Air as mentioned above), the entire wide screen shot is shown with black bands above and below the sceen shot since I am watching a widescreen program on a non-widescreen TV.
However, I noticed that when I watch the same show through Hulu Plus on my new Apple TV 3, the left and right edges of the shot are chopped off to make the program fill my non-widescreen TV. This bothers me because I would like to see the full shot and not just the chopped off middle portion. This is a real bummber because watching Hulu Plus without having to plug in my laptop is the only reason I bought the Apple TV. Is there anything I can do about this?
    Thanks!
(FYI: I have the very first Macbook Air that is not capable of mirroring)

One suggestion worked from the Firefox prints incorrectly link mentioned above by mha007. I'm thrilled since this has been annoying me for weeks. Thanks mha007!
    Reset all Firefox printer settings
    # Open your profile folder:
    # On the menu bar, click on the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information. The Troubleshooting Information tab will open.
    # Under the Application Basics section, click on Show in Finder. A window with your profile folder will open.
    # Note: If you are unable to open or use Firefox, follow the instructions in Finding your profile without opening Firefox.
    # On the menu bar, click on the Firefox menu and select Quit Firefox.
    # In your profile folder, copy the prefs.js file to another folder to make a backup of it.
    # Open the original prefs.js file in a text editor (such as TextEdit).
    # Remove all lines in prefs.js that start with print. and save the file.
    # If something goes wrong when you open Firefox, close it again and overwrite prefs.js with the backup you made.

  • Once iMovie project is burned with iDVD, picture on TV is cut off on both sides.

I made a movie slideshow using iMovie and used iDVD to burn it to disc. The movie plays fine, but when played on a TV, both sides of the picture are cut off. I inerted the disc into a computer and it plays fine there... I guess the problem is just TV format?

  • Why does the menu get cut off even if the project is widesrcreen?

I made a widescreen project in iMovie, exported it to iDVD, and chose a widescreen theme. It looked fine on my computer but when I burned it and played it on my home DVD player, the words were cut off. I also noticed that when played on some TVs, my movie (although widescreen) played as full screen and therefore, cut off some of the footage. Does anyone know how to fix this?

HOW TO MAINTAIN 16:9 ASPECT FROM IMPORT TO BURN
This is the way I do it. There is no compulsion on you to do it my way, but this works (for me). I started this method before iMovie and iDVD were upgraded to 6.0.3, and because not all elements of the various iDVD themes (particularly the pre-iDVD 6 ones) are consistent in keeping to 16:9 throughout the process.
The widescreen preview works just fine when you check your finished project within iDVD. The problem only happens when you either burn a project or save it to an image.
A bug in iDVD 6, particularly when working with PAL, and which has been reported to Apple, is that the sub-menus in many of the themes (the chapter settings) default to 4:3 aspect, NTSC and mpeg 1, instead of the desired 16:9 in mpeg 2 in PAL. This may be partly a leftover from iDVD 5 or even a newer ‘feature’ of iDVD 6. Either way, it is annoying when it happens, and we must hope Apple cure it in iDVD 7. In the meantime here is my failsafe workaround, which sounds a lot more complicated when reading about it, that it is in practise.
Living in the UK, I use PAL (25 fps). Wherever you see a reference to PAL (25 fps) in the following you may substitute NTSC (30 fps) in the various settings mentioned (if you don’t live in Europe), the basic idea is the same. I still use this method, and take these steps, regardless of whether it is always necessary. Worst case scenario: it would have worked anyway. Best case scenario: it works perfectly where it otherwise wouldn’t!
The object of the exercise is therefore to ‘fix’ all constituent parts of the project (video, titles, theme, effects, even audio!) in the desired 16:9 aspect to avoid producing a DVD where the movie is in 16:9 and the menu is in 4:3 or where other irritating surprises lurk in your project, which you only discover after burning a coaster!
First go to http://www.mydvdedit.com/index.php?lang=english and download myDVDedit. This is shareware although the download is free. Send the guy a few dollars/euros, he deserves it. While you are there, read all about it. Now install it in your Applications Folder. You will need it later.
You have finished your iMovie project with music, transitions and so on, and saved it to you Movies Folder. Before you started the project you naturally set it to DV Widescreen.
Open iDVD. Give the project a name, and save it as Widescreen if it didn’t default to the same aspect as your iMovie project. Now import the iMovie project into iDVD, choose a theme (any theme you like, even if it prefers to stay at 4:3) and save the project. Do what you would normally do to the theme and its drop zones. Save the project.
Now save as Disk Image on your desktop. Leave it there for the moment when it has finished/appeared.
Open your Movies Folder. Create a new folder. Name it PROJECTNAME – TS FILES (where ‘projectname’ is the name of your project!). Close the folder. You can of course call it anything you like, but this aids identification.
Now double-click the disk image on your desktop. It contains two folders: AUDIO_TS (which is empty, but please pretend that it isn’t) and VIDEO_TS. Drag and drop these to the folder you created in your Movies Folder. (This takes a moment).
Click on the AUDIO_TS folder and go to Get Info in the file menu. Right down the bottom is where you have to change the permissions. Under ‘Ownership & Permissions’ change this from Read Only to Read & Write. Click the small triangle next to Details, scroll down and click on ‘Apply to enclosed items’. You will be asked for your root password. Close the get info window, and now click on the VIDEO_TS folder and do the same. Close the Projectname-TS Files folder. You have now allowed yourself to change the properties of the contents of those folders, which leads us to the next all-important step.
Open myDVDedit. Go to File and open the projectname TS Files folder. By all means stare at it shock and awe, but don’t bother finding out what it can do, except for the following:
Top left you fill see a list of files. Lower centre you have a large window. On the vertical menu to the left of that, click te middle one (VTS or VMG).
In the window at the top left, ignore ‘First Play’ (if there was anything to correct in that, myDVDedit will have done so and told you).
Click on VMG Menu en (English). Now the whole thing springs to life.
Set Coding Mode to MPEG-2 (if it isn’t already)
Set Standard to PAL (or NTSC if that is what you want)
Set Aspect to 16:9 (not any of the other options)
    Now save the file.
Click on VTS Menu 1 en (English) and repeat as above.
Click on VTS Menu 2 and repeat as above.
You have now permanently ‘fixed’ the entire contents of the TS folder (the disk image) in 16:9 aspect. Close myDVDedit – you won’t need it again until the next project!
If you have Toast 7 Titanium, open it. ‘Select DVD-Video from VIDEO_TS’. Choose Select from the main Toast window and select your projectname-TS Files folder. You are now ready to burn! You can set the burn speed (2x recommended) before the burn commences. Allow Toast to verify the burn before you eject the DVD-R disk.
If you don’t have Toast 7, then I assume you can burn the projectname-TS Files folder (disk image) via Disk Utility. I say ‘assume’ only because I have never tried it that way.
Either way, you now have a DVD which will play as 16:9 widescreen on any TV set, even the old ones where you can’t ask it to letter-box.

  • IMessages to an iPhone occasionally appears with words cut off from end

When sending texts from iMessages to an iPhone, the text occasionally appears on their iPhone with a couple words cut off from the end.  It appears fine in the iMessages display/history.   Here's a few things I've noticed:
    - It's repeatable.  For example, the following message always causes the issue:  "man, why are you here?  Two are in testing places".  On the iPhone it appears as "man, why are you here?  Two are in testing".
    - It's a problem with iMessages.  If I send the exact same text from the iPhone, it goes through just fine.  The message has to originate from MacOS iMessages.  (I'm using the latest Mountain Lion and all updates as of 12/21/12)
    - The full message is actually being successfully transferred to the phone;  it just does not display correctly.  There are two pieces of evidence for this.  If on the iPhone, the user copies the truncated message and pastes it somewhere else, the full message is pasted!  Moreover,  on the top level the messages app (where you see the last message from all the recent people you texted with), the full message displays.
    - It can happen with both short and longer messages.   Here's another longer message I noticed got cut off: "That's funny that you though I was joking when I said I was debugging.  Why is that so weird?"
    - It has something to do with the length of the message or how it is being wrapped.  I can create modifications of those texts with the same length, and they will cut off. (That said, some modifications will not cause the problem, so it's more than just length.  Maybe it has something to do with how it wraps the words?)  Usually adding a few words to the message will allow it to go through.
    - It always cuts off at a space.  In other words, it will not truncate something in the middle of a word.
    - I have only seen it cut off one or two words before.
Apple really needs to make this a high priority fix.  Unreliable messaging of this sort is a deal-breaker for iMessages, IMO.  My guess is that they haven't had more reports for this because people simply don't notice unless the last word or two totally ruins the meaning of a text and the other person points it out.
Can people try to recreate this on their machines?  If so, please do so and file a bug report (http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html).  All you have to do is get on your iMessage app and text one of those two messages to your phone.  If it appears truncated on your phone, you've confirmed it.  You're welcome to use any of my post in any bug report.

    Hi,
    some entries had    (tabs probably)
I had seen these in Quicklook at the point where the Message appeared to show double spaces after a Full Stop or Question Mark.
You are right that it have not dawned on me that I had not seen them between words.
It was TextEdit as well (Not sure why I said QuickLook)

Part of this means the iMessages sent out.
The "repeat" is the sync back from the the ID  the iPhone is using.
I am presuming the leading numbers are the iMessage identifier that iMessages uses to tell whether it has been Synced

  • IPad VGA projected image offset and cut off

I bought an iPad VGA cable last night and hooked it up to my Optoma PT-100 projector (cheap kiddie projector, 854x480 resolution).
I tried slideshow and the pictures were horizontally stretched.  Bummer.
Then I tried netflix and I noticed a far more serious problem - the screen is offset to the right and the right quarter of the screen is cut off. The left quarter is totally black.
There's no settings anywhere for this thing so I wasn't really sure what to do / how to fix?
I have not tried hooking it up to a different monitor yet.

So half of it was just the projector not doing a very good job of resetting itself. That was the shift and the right quarter being cut off. All I needed to do there was power it off and on again and it resets the image.
The other part is really frustrating. This is where your answer did help. For some odd reason, the VGA cable is giving a 4:3 image to my projector which I don't get at all. But changing that setting in the projector did help.  This is especially weird because when I tested it on my tv it put out a 16:9 image.
I think if I play with the Netflix screen modes setting I might be able to get a full 16:9 image. What's frustrating about apple's "it just works" philosophy is when it doesn't and there's no way to try and workaround the issue.
