Black Bar Across Middle of Desktop

I have been noticing from time to time a black bar that is cutting across my desktop in Leopard. Its not application specific and happens randomly and I have to reboot to get rid of it. This is happening on my iMac and not on my Macbook. It is really strange. Its not the LCD doing it but it seems to be the graphics or Core Image, something like that. Maybe your desktop is scaring your computer - lol. What happens if you just put up the old default aurora desktop with no changing to the pic?
You should try that first and see if it's not related to the picture itself.
If it still happens you will have to try the basics like zapping the pram, resetting the pmu etc.
But first get something more cheery on your screen.

Trial to Full Version: Still have black bar across project...why?

I just downloaded the full version of Premiere Elements 9 for my Mac. The project I had created with the trial version I was led to believe would cease to have the black bar across the video once I downloaded and installed the full version. The black bar still exists. Is there something else I need to do to get it to go away?

Seleting "Timeline > Delete Rendered Files" hasn't worked for me - the black line is still there.   Now I've done it, the "delete rendered files" option has greyed out so obviously Elements think it's done what it can.
Im using Premiere Elements 9 on Windows 7.   Could there be anything else I need to do?

I'm using A Dell Pavilion hP Laptop with i7 Q720 1.60 GHz and 4GB RAM
My project uses MPG4 fles covnerted to AVI format but still with MPG4 codecs in (haven't figured how to sort that one out yet despite great help here...)
My Project is set up as DV - NTSC.
Workflow - haven't used any transitions or anything. One single mp3 on one track (although slip up 8 or 9 times to stop slippage), with hundreds of 2-3 second video clips (as above) on 3 video tracks.
Anything else I can tell you?
Really hope you can help as I've just spent about 8 hours on this project!
[EDIT - could it have anything to do with the fact that I have been rendering clips as I went along (I had to as I was having trouble with file formats). If so, there is there any way of "re-doing" a project, or do I have to start again from sratch?   I guess the auto-saves won't help me as I've been rendering every 30 secs or so.]
[EDIT 2 - problem solved (after a very worried hour!).   I removed all files from the organiser and then brought them all back in, and that did the trick]

2 Vertical Black Bars Across Screen...

Anyone know about or experienced vertical black bars (2) across the monitor after returning from sleep or standby mode?
I'm just worried my computer will crap out on me when it's most inconvenient so I'm trying to guage what computer problems/elderly computer symptoms I'll be dealing with in it's decline. It's only from 2009, but it's heavily used and has lots of graphic design and media software on it.
Note: The SD card recently stopped working, and the Genius bar determined it was a mechanical failure. Also, the CD burn hasn't been working for a while.
Using a Macbook pro os x, leopard, purchased 2009.

It only happens for a split second, and before/while the computer is waking up so when I try to take a screen shot, it doesn't work because it's not fully on yet. However, I will take a pic with some other device so I do have a picture of it. And I FOR SURE have all my data backed up plus on a flash.

Issues with a black (empty) toolbar can be caused by a plugin or an extension that is not compatible with Firefox 3.6 and isn't working properly anymore. 
A toolbar like the "ZoneAlarm Spy Blocker Plugin Stub for 32-bit Windows" and other toolbars like "Ask.com" or "My Web Search" can cause this issue. 
You can see the toolbars in View > Toolbars.

My iPhone4 has a black bar across the bottom

On my IPhone4 there is a black bard from about a third of the bottom. I have restarted it a number of times. It was NOT dropped or got wet or anything like that. Does this sound familiar?

perform a hard reset. press and hold the home button and power button until you see a glowing white apple. if that doesnt work create a backup and restore as new using itunes if the issue remains you need a replacement device.

I have a Pages file that I created on my iPad that I used iCloud to store. There are no backups anywhere of this file. The file is stuck on updating on iCloud and on the iPad the file is inaccessible. There is a black bar over it which greys the file out.

I have a Pages file that I used my iPad to create. iCloud backed this file up to its server. The problem is that my iPad somehow locked itself. I had to restore it, the file was lost on the iPad, and when I went back to iCloud to retrieve the file it said it was Updating. The file is showing on my iPad, but it is greyed out with a black bar across the bottom of it. I have been working on this file for months, and I am not about to lose it! Please can someone tell me how I can get my file to download at least to my iMac.
This file has worked perfectly in the past, and what I didn't realise when the iPad was locked down was that the Airplane Mode was on, to save battery. If that had been on it would have synced it again.
Can anyone help me? I'm supposed to be sending this file (completed) off to a company in three days.

On the iPad tap Settings > iCloud
Toggle Documents & Data off then back on then restart your iPad.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
On the iMac open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Documents & Data then reselect it then restart your iMac.

Black bar at bottom ONLY with mpg

I sent a sequence to Media Encoder from Premiere CC 2014. It looks fine previewing it, but after it encodes as a .mpeg or .mpg, there is a black bar across the bottom quarter of the screen. It doesn't do it when I encode the same sequence as mp4.

The problem is that I need it to work as a .mpeg, so it will work on the TV in our lobby.

Looks like you have wrong pixel aspect ratio and or a Crop in the mpeg export settings.

Black Bar over synced photos

There is a black bar across many of my synced photos, covering a large portion or all of the photos themselves, within the photos app. Has anybody else had this happen to them?

Black bar telling me that I am useing an old verision and should update firefox . I am up to date and this is a constant on the screen

Every time I start Firefox , I get a black bar across the top of the page telling that I am using an old version and should update , it has a learn more button and that takes me to the mozilla home page
I am using Firefox 6 and the menu bar say it is up to date . I don't know where this came from and see no way to remove it . I can be closed but will appear the next time the browser is opened

If the black bar appears immediately upon booting (at the grey screen) then I'd suspect you have a hardware failure of part of the screen.
An external monitor could help confirm that it's not a software issue where OSX *thinks* there should be a black bar there :-) . If you hook up an external monitor and have OSX set to mirror the displays (which I believe is the default setting for a new monitor) see if the black bar is also on the external monitor. If it's not, I think you need a new screen for the Air.

Black bar window on Desktop

I have a black bar on my desktop about 5.5 inches long by 1/2 inch that is telling me what my cursor is doing. How do I get rid of it?

Thanks for repying. I didn't see anything in Sys Pref Universal. In Accessibility I didn't see anything that looked like it would solve my problem. I un check about every thing and nothing happened so I checked them back. I next started messing with fn F keys, no help. I then tried Option F keys and I think at F6 the black bar disappeared and so far hasn't come back so hopefully that fixed the problem. I had messed with those keys the other day trying to get my Mini DVI to see my desktop monitor through VGA which ended in a fiasco. Thank you again.

Large grey bar across screen on custom *.desktop session

as a bit of experimentation i set a custom session that starts no window manager, but just launches Chromium-browser.
it worked fine (and blindingly fast too) but for some reason there is a thick (60-80 pixel high) default-grey bar across the bottom of the screen.
anyone know why?

In short, there isn't. Not without a window manager.
An X server does not have a concept of "maximized" window, it only cares about rendering it's content [usually] in a box with externally specified geometry. That geometry is passed to the X server by the application itself or by other means, like window manager.
You may try to run Chromium with the --geometry=XxY+0+0 parameter if Chromium supports it. Or you can look for some other ways to set an X window geometry. I'd say the easiest way would be using a window manager. I guess you'd like to go for something minimal, like twm or matchbox.

Black Bar on Screen with Text (accidental key combo, can't get rid of it)

In a mad typing dash 2 days ago, I accidentally hit a key combo that placed a black bar in the middle of my screen with the words "Gmail - friday - my email address" (I was in Gmail composing a message at the time). It's visible at all times, using all apps, and on my desktop. I've tried rebooting, quitting all apps, checking my system prefs, looking for answers online, all to no avail. I can't click on it, highlight it or drag it to the trash and I'm at a loss...any suggestions? Many thanks!

My ipad gets a black bar over part of the screen then freezes up, please help

Just today my 16gb ipad 2 ,bought in December 2011, started to get a black bar over part of the screen. Sometimes 3/4 of the screen sometimes 1/4 then it freezes up and will not do anything. If I try to reboot it I get a faint backlit only. Any help would be appreciated!

I need to add a website to the sites which are allowed to install add-ons & have instructions to do so but do not have a yellow bar across the top of my screen in order to click on "Edit Options."

I tried to install an update for Adobe Reader but Mozilla Firefox will not install it until I add them to the Allowed List. The first step is to click on "Edit Options" in the yellow bar across the top, but i don't have a yellow bar or actually anything that says Edit Options.

The instructions on the Adobe site are outdated and do no longer apply to current Firefox versions and you can ignore those instructions and save the Adobe installer to your desktop and start the installation with a double-click on that file.
