Black Bar appear on Export

I have always created DVD's of my finished projects by exporting a Quicktime Movie to my desktop, dragging it into IMovie HD and burning a DVD by sharing with IDVD.
Since having installed FCP I get a black Bar down the left side about 1/8th. the size of the screen when I play my project back in IMovie. It follows to the DVD. Any suggestions?

Tom:
I was taught to export to IMovie by someone else. I hadn't even considered I could go directly to IDVD. Since your prompt, I researched doing just that, tried it and it appears to have worked. It also eliminated the black bar which was appearing in IMovie HD. This is how I had done it in FCExpress and I guess it doesn't work with FCP. It's a much shorter process.
Now I have to figure out why I can't get video to my external monitor through my deck. I've thrown every switch I know to throw and neither my deck nor the external monitor is seeing video from the computer via firewire. Any hints?
Thanks
Russ

Hi, by Repeat, do you mean speaks it?
If so try CMD+F5 to turn off Voice Over.

  • A black bar appeared at the bottom of the new window after I drag a tab out.

this is actually an issue back in the mavericks safari, but the problem was somehow solvable and was not appearing every time.
after upgrading to Yosemite, this problem appears every time.
The problem is : when I have several tabs, then I drag a tab out, which you can see the minimized window.
After you release it, it will become a new window as expected and intended. BUT there will be a black bar underneath.
In the Youtube website, you can see that the upper part of the site is actually being blocked by the toolbar.
( I had waited for several seconds to let the toolbar to get to its original position )
Clearly the black bar at the bottom caused this problem.
    It's a very annoying issue.
I am not sure if it's a problem of Yosemite or Safari. But back in to mavericks, the problem also existed.
Is there anyone out there having the same problem?
    How to Fix it ?
P.S.1 HOWEVER, if i right-clicked the tab and select "move tab to a new window", the problem DOES NOT exist.
    P.S.2 I am using Mac Book Air(13", Mid 2013),  OS X Yosemite  (10.10.2)

In the App store window at the top click on Purchases. Your download progress is there. If the progress seems to have stalled, click on the pause button and then restart the download. It should pick up where it left off.

  • HELP!!!  Weird white bars appearing in exports...

We have just hired on a fabulous graphic designer to our company, but every time we export her designs as jpegs instead of PDFs, horizontal white bars appear going across smaller images. The bars do not line up with each other, even across images of the exact same size. There are no hidden objects to get rid of and this happens no matter which machine we open it on, hers, mine, my assistants, or any one of the other 5 computers in our studio. What is going on? Why does it look perfect as a PDF and crappy as a jpeg?
We are using InDesign as past of the new creative suite that includes photoshop CS3.

Well Buko that doesn't sound like an answer at all but as a workaround to a flaw in the program itself. Are you telling me that the only way to get a jpeg out of InDesign is to first export as a PDF? If that's the case, then it means Adobe has put out a product that doesn't work as it is supposed to.
Buko, you did not attempt to answer my question, and in fact tried to make me feel stupid for not seeing the obvious answer of spending more time doing what InDesign already should do. No one likes a smart aleck.
This is a serious question to the rest of the world. My question is NOT how to eventually get a jpeg. My question is this: Why can I not export a jpeg directly from InDesign? What is going on? Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a bug in our version of InDesign, or is this a common problem?

  • Black bars appearing on website while browsing with iOS 6

I have a WP site and when I browse it using my iOS 6 iPhone it shows black bars at the bottom of each post.
Others using iOS 6 also have the same issue on my site but those using older iOS do not see the black bars...
Anyone else having this problem with Safari in iOS 6?
    Thanks

Yes I see this too. Using the WiFi hotspot does not have this problem but is a poor workaround. I also upgraded both devices to iOS 6, and tried resetting network settings on the hotspot device, to no avail. I filed a bug report at http://bugreporter.apple.com , you may wish to do the same.

  • Black screen appears after exporting to Quicktime movie

I'm having trouble exporting a time-lapse video to a QT movie. The screen is always black when I try to watch the finished product. Here's what I'm doing:
I import the jpeg files into QT 7 Pro using "Open Image Sequence." At this point I'm able to watch the video in QT. Now I want to export it to a QT movie so I can import that file into iMovie. From "File," I choose "Export>Movie to QuickTime Movie." I check the Options button to view the Settings and Size. Settings show compression is Apple Intermediate Codec, with Frame Rate set to "Current." Size is HD 1280 x 720, with the "Preserve Aspect Ratio" box checked. I give the file a name, hit "Save" and it begins to export.
When that's done, I go to my desktop and click on the newly created movie file, which opens in QT version 10.1. However, the movie shows up as a black screen.
Can anyone spot the error in what I'm doing? It's got to be something simple. I've created a time-lapse using these steps (I think) before, so I don't think there's a bug in the program anywhere. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
Btw...My OS is 10.7.4. I'm also not trying to create a movie with an audio component -- this is only video.

Not exactly an error, but I do have a question. If you are sourcing JPEG images to an image sequence file which creates a QT Photo JPEG compression file which is already import/edit compatible with iMovie and currently plays in the QT 7 Player correctly without a "black screen" problem, why are you exporting the data to the AIC compression format instead of simply saving the Photo JPEG sequence file and importing it directly to iMovie?

  • Aspect ratio: 4:3 material being exported with black bars (on the sides!)

    Hi all
I'm fairly new to using FinalCut Express: previously I've used other non-linear video editors on Windows.
I'm having a bit of a weird problem: I've got a sequence which was shot entirely in 4:3 (PAL). However, when I try to export that to a QuickTime movie it appears squashed from either side — black bars appear at the sides of the frame and everyone looks very tall and thin. The frame itself is still 4:3 but everything is being squashed to fit in the bars.
I've fiddled with as many settings as are immediately obvious to me to see if I can rectify this, but so far no banana: the sequence is about 90 minutes long and takes about 30 minutes to render each time when exporting.
Has anyone got any ideas what to do about this? I've been trying to do some research into how FCP/FCE handle different aspect ratios, and it seems to be a very complicated topic. In fact, in the same project I've got a sequence which contains almost entirely 16:9 anamorphic material. Ideally I'd like this to be output in a 16:9 frame with the few 4:3 clips appearing with bars on the side. However, it's only being output as 4:3 where the 4:3 clips appear full-frame and the 16:9 clips have bars at top and bottom...
    Hope someone can help!
    Mac Pro: 3GHz, 6GB RAM, X1900XT, BT, AirPort   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Tom, thanks for the reply.
Everything looks absolutely fine when played back in FCE; it's only when exporting to QuickTime that my problems start. The point is that this 4:3 sequence isn't being output into a 16:9 frame as a pillarbox: what's actually happening is that it's being put into a 4:3 frame with bars, with the result that the content is in fact being squeezed (it looks wrong).
How can you modify the aspect-ratio settings for a given sequence? I've looked through all the obvious sequence properties settings but have never found anything.
I'll just reiterate — it plays back fine within the viewer; only when output does it all go awry.

  • 640x480 & 720x480 black bars, export

    Hello helpful friends.
I am helping out a friend: exporting his projects that are shot in 720x480 (rectangular pixels), with sequence settings set at the same. The image in the Canvas is stretched wider, with black bars on both sides, and sometimes only a black bar on the right. I duplicated the sequences in FCP, and set those sequence settings to 640x480, and while this seems to fix the way the problem in the canvas, I still cannot export these movies to h.264 without those black bars appearing. This is frustrating in that I have read all of these forums here (for hours) - and still cannot get a nice clean export. Either the images are stretched wider, or they appear in the correct aspect ratio: with the black lines. I understand the square pixel/rectangular pixel issues, and that computers only use square pixels. These video exports are intended only for web output. Here is an example of the issues I describe:
    http://vimeo.com/27851942
You'll notice some clips have black bars on both sides, but most of the video only has a black bar on the right.
many thanks for your interest and help.
    Cheers, Paul in Chicago

I think you missed my point here...
640x480 is nothing more than a square pixel rendition of the 720x480 source. FCP is very handy with the unsquare pixels of your source clips, so I suggest you use the DVCPro/DV-NTSC preset for the timeline.
When the 720x480 timeline looks right, your export (using current settings) will play as 640x480 in QT player with the correct aspect ratio AND the same clip will be correct in Compressor (with unsquare pixels) for transcoding.
If your images in the (720x480) timeline have black bars on one or both sides, make corrections using the tools in the Motion tab of the Viewer. Typically, if you have a black bar on one side, it stands to reason that the frame isn't correctly centered (it was shot as 720 wide, it should be 720 wide...) so center it. When I have to do this kind of "clean-up" on someone else's timeline, I usually double-click the clips in the timeline into Viewer, go to the Motion tab and click the Basic Motion reset button first thing to center, scale, and un-rotate any "accidents" from the previous editor.
If the footage you have was uncentered when it was output from another system, you can still square it up and make it presentable using the controls in the Motion tab of Viewer.
When it all looks good, I recommend you output the timeline(s) using the current settings, then use that full resolution clip as source to transcode to H.264. This will save you a lot of additional outputs from FCP.

  • A narrow black bar with text in it telling me what I am doing, has appeared on my screen. Also, there's a voice over speaking the same thing. How can I get rid of it?

I was checking out some keyboard shortcuts when a black bar appeared with white letters repeating letters as i type. Then telling me where i am and what I'm doing. Also a voice over started, telling me what I was doing. How can I stop this and get rid of the black text bar? It even creates text boxes and things without asking. Help!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! This is the first time I've had a question and it was answered within the first click.  Silly cat decided he wanted to play on my computer and turned on a bunch of weird stuff. Including this.

  • Black bars with 1600 x 900

Hello im trying to make a counterstrike source movie and im recording my footage in 1600 x 900 and 16:9 so i finally figured out how to setup
a CUSTOM sequence and get my resolution in there as 1600 x 900 and 16:9 but the issue i am having is the black bars once i export. ive researched on these forums about this issue and some people say to scale it?? not quite sure what that means but im using the sequence settings desktop with 1600 x 900 and 16:9 when i export i also select use sequence settings. any help would be appreciated. thanks

to answer your question im using counterstrike source video game and the start movie command in 1600 x 900 and 16:9 resolution. ive also tried virtual dub and i can get it to where it has no bars on virtual dub but not adobe. hopefully this is all the settings you asked for. maybe it has to do with me not knowing what settings to use?? but this is as close as ive gotten
using the i frame only mpeg for the codec(only one i could do a custom res on i think)
    width and hieght 1600 x 900
pixel aspect ratio d1/dv  ntsc widescreen 16:9(unsure of what to use closest i could find)
here are the properties of the video i made with no bars that im trying to edit in premier
    Type: AVI Movie
    File Size: 8.7 MB
    Image Size: 1600 x 900
    Pixel Depth: 0
    Frame Rate: 60.00
    Total Duration: 00:00:07:08
Average Data Rate: 1.2 MB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
basically this gives me a video with no bars on top which is great. but it has bars on the side which is not so great.

  • Anybody else getting black bars on Finder items names?

I never had this before, pretty sure this is a Yosemite issue.
When I enter a folder (and almost always the problem occurs with those on /Desktop) at first the Finder window doesnt show any content,
though the Statusbar shows "1 item". When I close the Finder window and open the folder again a black bar appears over the name of
    the Finder item.
Running Yosemite RC on latest high-end rMBP.

I have exactly the same problem like you said.
It seems to be a common issue on rMBP mid-2014 running Yosemite.
Here's another rMBP user having the same problem.
Files won't show, crashes on boot, Finder crashes
BTW, I can't see your pic.

  • Black bar in 32-bit comps!?

    Hi,
Most of my work I do as 8-bit comps in Ae. However, I recently wanted to play with some overbrights in Trapcode 3D Stroke, which can only be realised in a 32-bit composition.
Whenever I watch the comp, scrub through it it looks OK, but as soon as I play it as a RAM preview, a black bar appears at the top 3rd of the screen (and no, there's no mask or solid covering that area). I thought I had to update my nVidia drivers (I have a Quadro FX 4800-card), but alas, to no avail.
This also works its way through the rendered out versions.
The problem persists (or perhaps worsens) whenever I switch the comp back to 16-bit color space:
Now the top half of the screen is repeated and divided up into a repetitive cycle.
Only when I switch the comp back to 8-bit, the problem is solved.
In this comp, I did use a sequence of JPEG (8-bit files). But the problem seems to exist in any new comp or project set to 16 or 32-bit.
    I have a 64-bit windows 7 professional quad-core workstation with 18GB of RAM.
    Any ideas?

I thought I had to update my nVidia drivers (I have a Quadro FX 4800-card), but alas, to no avail.
But you're still using OpenGL?! Why not simply turn it off? AE can happily go without it. You're right on the money as far as I can tell - from what it looks like, it's a graphics card issues. Either a color space conversion issue on teh graphics card or some weird stuff with shader programs not being executed fully. Hard to tell, but as a start realyl do try to turn off OpenGL and then look into your driver config. Many times the latest driver is not the best one, so try an older driver version...
