Black Bounding Box Appearing on my screen.. driving me mad!

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me. Somehow I have managed to get this black bounding box to appear n anything that I select. I don't know how I did it, my only guess is that some keyboard shortcut backfired on me!
It wouldn't be such a big deal except when I'm working in Quark, I keep getting a huge box the length of my screen appearing and its in my waywhen I'm trying to work. I guess its a finder feature somewhere in settings but for the life of me, I just can't find it.
I would be very grateful if someone could help me.
Thanks,
Joni

Did you turn the Universal Access Voice Over on? (cmd-F5 toggles it.)
You can go to Universal Access in System Preferences and check the 'off' radio button too.

  • Text put into a canvas element with context.fillText() always has a black box where each letter goes. If the text is black you just see the black rectangle. If the text is not black you see it on the black bounding box. Surely this is not right.

This has happened on the last few versions of firefox, as long as canvas has been supported. I see other people's screen shots from canvas tutorials, and the text always looks normal. On my system, any text put into a canvas element via context.fillText() will have a black bounding box for each letter, sized appropriately for the letter. If the text is black, of course you only see rectangles. If the text is a contrasting color, then you can read it, but it looks bizarre.

    Thomas...same kind of crap here.
I used Custom Text - entered a sentence, hit return, entered another.
    Set to 72 pt.
The default alignment is centred - I want left aligned text...the text start point stays at the centre of frame and the sentence runs off the edge of the bounding box.
There is no settings in the Text or Title inspector dialog to correct that!
Using Transform will not sort it!

  • Black Bounding box?

I just upgraded from CS3 to CS6. I hate this big black bounding box I am now working inside of. Makes it much harder to Command-zero an image up to full screen size, and Also I haven't been able to figure out how to bring 2 images up together, so I can see them both. To clone stamp one to the other for instance. How do I get rid of th big black box?

Which OS. Floating windows or tabbed editing. There is also a sight difference between how on a PC perhaps Mac too how Command+0 works on CS6 as compared to previous versions of Photoshop. I think right now you seeing tabbed editing for the first time.

  • Bounding box appears with pen tool.

Currently I am trying to make a mask around text so I can reveal text to make it look as if it is being written by hand. I place the text down with the text tool, I then used the pen tool to trace the text. For some reason though, I can only place a few anchor points before a bounding box appears around the anchor points. I can no longer add anchor points to my current path.
If I use the pen tool to select my created path, I still cannot add more anchor paths. If I restart after effects I can sometimes place a few anchor points on the path then the bounding box reappears and I cannot place anymore.

I usually set a solid to a vibrant color, change the blend mode to screen or multiply so I can see through it, and create and animate may masks on this solid. The solid is then used as a track matte. It lets me accurately see what I am doing.
If you close your path or miss a click when drawing a path you will occasionally get a bounding box. Pressing escape or deselecting the layer, then carefully selecting the path again should let you continue. It just takes a little practice to be able to add points to a mask.
BTW, if your mask is complex and has a lot of vertices then you should make sure that you have all of the points in place before you start animating mask position. You'll get better interpolation between keyframes that way. Here's an example:
I"m using both the marquis selection and transform option as well as animating single points here to do a simple roto job.

  • 4 questions: at login black rectangular box, appears and speaks- 2 annoying black box over text- 3 bluetooth doesnt always pick up keyboard/mouse at login- 4 dock disappears and reappears at will

    Here we go,
    1) at login a black rectangular box with white text appears and voice over seems to be on (even though its switched off)
    2) after login an annoying black square surrounds the cursor
    3) upon waking computer from sleep the bluetooth doesn't pair with the keyboard or mouse (I usually just power them both off and then back on and this seems to work)
    4) the dock disappears and reappears on its own even though "hide the dock" is not checked

In the login screen, press the key combination command-F5 to deactivate VoiceOver.

  • Bounding boxes appear in Acrobat after exporting from InDesign

Whenever I create outline fonts in my CS3 version of InDesign (I haven't upgraded to CS4 on this one program yet), I'm left with some very strange thin white lines surrounding some or all of the resulting letters that look suspiciously like bounding boxes. This never seems to occur if I don't create outline fonts, but simply embed the fonts and create a PDF using the Export command, so I have to believe the anomaly has something to do with this conversion process within the program. If I use illustrator CS4 to create outline fonts and then place them within my InDesign documents, I don't appear to have the problem. However, that's not a very desirable solution as it negatively impacts the fluidity of layouts and the ease of design, both of which I use in design for.
And yes, these small thin white lines do print, so the problem is far more than merely academic.
Has anyone else ever experienced this issue, and if so, how did you solve the problem (assuming you did)?

Sorry about that, I apparently forgot to attach the file; have done so now.
The method I'm using for creating outlines is simply to use the "Create Outlines" command under the Type menu within InDesign. Then I create my PDF files by using the Export command under the File menu and choosing the PDF/X1a option. 99% of the time I get perfect results, it's only when I try to make outline type that I encounter this problem. You'll clearly see the artifacts in question in the example attached.
I don't know whether or not the press would have printed these artifacts, as you suggest, since no printer has been willing to execute a file that shows any anomaly in the proof process. I can't say that I blame them.
Hopefully you will see what I'm talking about and can recommend a solution, though I like your idea of simply giving them a properly executed file and then telling them to get a life. It hasn't worked so far, as I unfortunately deal with a lot of Neanderthals around here, but I suppose it's worth putting forth again the next time this issue arises. It will.
By the way, no print house of my choosing is this far behind the curve, if at all. These cavemen are always printers who have long-standing relationships with my clients, and for whatever reason (generally lowest cost I'm sure), the clients think they hung the moon. We, of course, no otherwise, but it does it profit a designer to tell his client he or she is crazy for using a printer who is a decade behind the technology curve.
We cowboy up and seek solutions, eh?

  • Export Save / Open dialog box appears behind disco screen

    Hi all
Disco 10g Plus, excel, latest Sun java 6.16 jvm
We have an annoying but strange issue with exporting.
A user opens and runs a report ok.
Withing Disco 10 plus they then click on either file-Export-excel or click on the Export Excel icon on disco plus toolbar
Either way the export happens and a dialog box appears with blue progress bar and then this disappears.
And then nothing appears to happen.
However, something actually has happened, behind the disco 10 window the 'File Download' dialog box with 'Do you wish to open or save this file?' appears. Clicking on save saves it to PC and clicking open opens it in Excel which is fine.
I am not sure of this box belongs to excel or internet explorer but does anyone know of any way to have this dialog box appear IN FRONT of the current disco plus window as some of our users think that disco has 'frozen' and thus log support calls.
    thanks in advance,
    dw

    Hi dw
I have heard of folks complaining that exports to Excel hang. I have not had any feedback to say that the dialog box is actually open behind the scenes. This is very interesting news and thanks for reporting it. I will certainly look for this in the future and see if I can find a pattern.
If I may ask, what exact version of Discoverer are you on and what cumulative patch level have you implemented?
Also, what browser are you using and have you tried this in another one?
Have you tried deinstalling Java 6.16 and tested with an older one like 6.11 which I have seen working very well?
As much extra information as you can provide will definitely help and could trigger an idea from someone reading.
    Best wishes
    Michael

  • How do I stop the 'you are about to close 3 tabs' box appearing on the screen, then the site closing?

There is a Tools box that has appeared by itself to the left of the screen, the edge is just visible. I pulled it out and closed it, but it reappears each time the above problem happens.

  • "transparent" bounding boxes appear when printing from InDesign and Acrobat

Hi. I have encountered a problem with both CS4 and CS5 InDesign and Acrobat 9.0. Mac OS 10.5.8. When I print (artwork flattened before I create PDF with standard "Press Quality" from InDesign or Adobe Illustrator default from Illustrator) lighter areas that are rectangular shaped will appear on the color print. We use a rip and this appears to happen randomly. I have spent considerable time troubleshooting this...I have used every work around I can think of—to no avail.
    1. What is this?
    2. Why is this happening?
    3. Is there technical information out there to help me get rid of it?
    Thanks so much!

Solid areas of lighter color. I am not sure if our rip can handle live transparency. It is a Fiery 8e Release 2. I tried a solution from a previous post that suggested de-selecting the Pantone match option when I print and that did work.
The PDF's are high res. It has even happened on some PDF's that were created through Distiller as high res. I have seen this at the print shop I work at and also at the college where I teach design.
Thanks so much for your quick response.

  • Dialog boxes appear off screen

    Hi!
I'm using Illustrator CC on a MacBook Pro. I use an external monitor as a second screen and usually move the application frame to the external monitor and work there. I started having the follwing problem: when I try to save or open a file, the dialogue box appears slightly off screen, so that I can't for instance type in a new file name, because I can't get to that part of the dialogue box.
I have tried switching between different screen modes, but it doesn't help. Also I can't manually move the dialog box - which also seems strange.
My external monitor is a NEC MultiSync EA273WM.
Any idea what could be the problem or how to solve it? It's slowly driving me mad...
    Thanks in advance!

At the moment it looks like the problem is called 10.10.2
You can read through the posts of last week on this forum, but I'm afraid you won't find a solution.

  • How to get rid of black outline boxes persisting on screen

Black outline boxes have started appearing around objects and icons that I’ve clicked on or text areas I've filled in. Sometimes these boxes persist on the screen in its original location until I go to a new program.
For example – in PhotoShop, a black outline box appeared on the vertical slider area and then stayed in the same location on the screen until I switched to Safari – which then got it’s own boxes.
    I have a clear 20” Cinema Display.

Open the Universal Access pane of System Preferences and check if VoiceOver is turned on; if so, turn it off.

  • Effects change bounding box background color

This is a technical continuation of my earlier inquiry - to which I found a workaround but not the solution.
Create a document with a black background.
Drop a graphic with a transparent background, or a block of white text, on that background.
Print. You have stuff on a black background.
Now apply an effect to that graphic or text - emboss, glow, whatever.
Print. If you're like me, you have stuff in a noticeable dark-black bounding box on a less-black background.
    Why?
Despite much discussion and suggestions of the obvious (match color spaces, use CMYK graphic, remove underlying black background, etc.) not one thing I ever tried eliminated this bounding-box shadow, which, oddly, does not seem to appear on other colored background, even dark ones. ID is doing something with the black background... but what?
This also happens when (as in my specific case) a photo with a rich-black background refuses to match with a black background of the same color build. The photo is a deeper, shinier, rich black while the graphic black is colder and grayer.
The only thing I can think of is that it's an artifact of my HP print drivers, so I'd be interested in seeing who can replicate this fault and who can't. ...thanks!

The full-rasterization technique in the original post fixes the problem, yes. I experimented with quite a few other settings along this line including letting the printer handle color and setting the mode to PS2. Nothing - as before - corrected the issue.
So what exactly is the problem here? Is ID sending badly formed PS code? Is there a bug in the PS3 interpreter? Or what? And is there any way to actually fix this, or is the ID-rastering setting the only way?
And, finally, is this only an issue on my printer, or will the magazine's page imager render the same fault? These are pretty expensive ads for the client and I don't want to see these lovely bands when the magazine hits my desk. If it's just my printer, I can live with the workaround. But as this is a high-end HP with genuine PS3, how can a RIP with PS3 handle it any differently?
Thanks for the workaround, in any case. I'd still like to fix the PROBLEM, if I can.

  • InDesign CC bounding box alignment illusion

Has anyone else experienced an illusion in InDesign CC where the top of a bounding box appears to be misaligned with a margin or guide because the standard blue bounding box is replaced with a blue + magenta margin color? I have confirmed this is just a screen illusion because the reference points all match up, and in fact certain zoom stops correct the illusion, but it always gives my OCD pause. I'm sorry it is hard to explain, but see the graphic for clarification. To my knowledge, this was never an issue in priors versions going back to CS3. I realize this is small potatoes in the grand scheme of things, but is this a known bug or a confusing new feature I haven't unchecked yet?

Never paid attention to that. But it seems that's the case. I usually work with Fit Spread in Window enabled which is a bit less that 100% and you don't see that. The margin frame underneath shows only at 100%.

  • Black, clear box won't go away

This just started today. A box appears on my screen. It's not a dialouge box. It's the highlight box that highlights what you select with your cursor. For instance, this text box I'm typing in is highligted. If I scroll down, the highlight line around it will remain while the rest of the page scrolls. It sometimes lingers on screen and even pops up for no particular reason. I've tried repairing permissions and restarting. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Eleni

I figured it out. I had Voice Over turned on.
