Black Circle on Laptop Monitor

I recently purchased a W520 with 6 GB of RAM and the Nvidia Quadro 1000M Graphics Card.
Occasionally a black circle appears in the upper left hand corner of my laptop monitor as shown in the enclosed image. Does anyone know what this is from?  It appears to go away once I restart...
Here is an(updated) link to an image showing the issue.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Marc

One thing I will note is that I this issue seems to have something to do with updating this machine.  I'm not 100% sure but it seems that after running windows update or updating a driver, etc, this thing appears.  Its almost like its telling me to restart.

Have just connected a viewsonic external monitor to macbook pro 10.6.8, had everything up and running fine for about an hour then the macbook quit. No power (ws running off power source) Have I killed my macbook? Help!

    Aha, all is good.
    I went to Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays
    and to home/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays
and deleted all SyncMaster.icc files. I did leave behind one SyncMaster file in the home/../Displays which had an old date and I new was ok.
Rebooted, plugged in SyncMaster, and a new icc file was automatically created in the /Library/../Displays folder.
    My display works normally, now.

  • I was trying to extent monitor, I get black screen on laptop and external monitor :/

so I have this hdmi cable that plugs into the DVI on my external monitor.
I did get the screen to show up just on the external monitor and that's it.  Now, when I boot up my lap top I get black screen on both monitors.  Uh oh.
I've unpugged the  monitor, batter, all that stuff.
I think it's possible I clicked on don't display external monitor or something, but not it's not displaying anywhere.
    I have an idea pad of some sorts w/ windows 8.  I don't think it's 8.1

so I got this resolved.  the guy at the computer store hit f10 and then enter.  he did this while the screen was black
shouldnt' it just detect that there's not an external monitor?  but even when there was a monitor connected, both screens were black.

There is a problem on my mac mini. I install windows7 in my mac then i cancelled the installation did not finish..after that i saw the black screen on my monitor untill now the monitor is black..

It maybe trying to boot from the incomplete install.
Try starting your Mac while holding down the Option key, it should then list all the available boot drives including the Mac OS X one. Boot from the Mac one and then you can wipe the damaged PC one or set the Mac to stay booting in to OS X.

  • Blue lines in black areas using external monitor

I am running my 13" MB Pro hooked up to a ViewSonic LED LCD Monitor (VX2250) (DVI link using generic knock off mini-display to DVI adapter).
The problem I'm having is that black areas on the monitor will have fuzzy horizontal blue lines running through them. So if I'm doing graphic design stuff that has black areas, these fuzzy lines will show up. Sometimes they are thin, sometimes they are thick.
If I move the black area around, the lines stay in the same place relative to the black area. They don't stay put relative to the screen (if that makes sense). So I'm fairly sure its not the monitor, as I would imagine they would stay in place within the monitor if the monitor had issues.
Any suggestions? Could the knock-off DVI adapter be the culprit (never had this problem on an older non-LED LCD display using same adapter). Thanks for any suggestions.

    Anyone?

  • How to create a black circle with a white number?

I am trying to do something really simple in Adobe Acrobat XI is giving me fits. I want to markup a PDF of a map with black circles that have numbers in the middle.  I added a text box, inserted a number, pressed control + E and changed the number color to white, then grabbed the text box border, right clicked, and changed the field to black. However, the text box properties box is only giving me the option to change the border style, border color, and opacity.  It does not give me the option to change the shape of the text box. Earlier, after researching the issue, I was somehow able to get a box to pop up that did have a drop-down for different shapes, but it was greyed out. For some reason, when I right click it now, I only get the "text box properties" box with 3 tabs – appearance, general, and review history. And the "appearance" tab does not give an option to change the shape of the text box. This should be very simple – how on earth do I change the shape of the text box? Or, is there another way to accomplish this (what should be an extremely easy) task??

How do I create a "stamp"?  That seems unnecessarily complicated.  I find it hard to believe there's no option for this in Acrobat - it's easy to do in Word (just draw a circle and insert a number)..
I was able to get this box up at one point by right clicking the borders:
The 2nd and 3rd dropdown boxes from the left look like they would give you this option.  However, when I click the borders now, I get this box:
which does NOT have an option to change shapes.
So how do I get to the first box?????

  • Laptop monitor goes blank

Can Flash cause a laptop monitor and the attached monitor to go blank when playing a game on facebook using firefox latest version?  I have this version installed 11.7.700.225

I saw another thread in which people were wondering why you'd want to run a machine with a lid closed.  For one thing, the external monitor resolution is much better w the lid down. It appears you have to have the laptop plugged in in order to get the external screen to stay live when you close the lid. This is kind of a pain because one of my desks is upstairs and one is down and sometimes I just want to run upstairs and work for 1-2 hours without bothering with the power cord, etc.

  • Anybody generally familiar with laptop monitor sync ranges?

After having been happy with arch linux on my desktop for almost 12 hours, I'm now configuring it for my laptop. I'm now working on my XFree86 configuration, and I've hit a snafu. I have no idea what the horizontal & vertical sync ranges ought to be. I never got any monitor documentation with my laptop, and the technical specifications provided by gateway (the manufacturer; not very OSS friendly hardware, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone getting a new computer) (on the other hand, the boxes are very pretty) are a little bit lacking.
Consequently, here is everything I can dig up. Is there anyone generally familiar with the kind of frequencies that modern laptop monitors can handle, who can give me a good idea of some values to use?
    We've got:
15.0-inch active matrix (TFT) LCD color display
    Maximum panel resolution: 1024 × 768
Maximum color depth: 32-bit (16.7 million colors)
    LCD supported video modes: XGA
LCD maximum refresh rate: 60 Hz
    Thanks!

    my lcd-config looks like this:
    Section "Monitor"
    Option "CalcAlgorithm" "CheckDesktopGeometry"
    DisplaySize 305 230
    HorizSync 28-95
    Identifier "LCD"
    ModelName "FlexView 1600X1200"
    VendorName "IBM"
    VertRefresh 52-82
    # UseModes "Modes[0]"
    ModeLine "1600x1200/60Hz" 162 1600 1664 1856 2160 1200 1201 1204
    1250 +HSync +VSync
    Option "DPMS
    EndSection
but the data i got from the manual, so it's not guessing but knowing
you can try the refresh and sync rates i use  if nobody answers specific for your machine --- i know this settings work on 4 different lcd's for sure and never heard that they made trouble
instead of the Modeline (i use), i suggest you to write modelines and then just include the Modes-section you wrote to the monitor section (the out-commented line i added)
would be better you get other replys specific on your hardware - mine is more general, sorry

  • Premiere Pro 5.5 + Black Magic Decklink Mini Monitor Issues

I have been running Ppro 5.5 on a windows 7 x64 machinine without issues. However, I added a Black Magic Decklink mini monitor recently. I am having issues of time line stopping at certain native transition effects like cross disolve and premier freezing crashing to blue screen when using black magic Ppro presets.
When I changed the render mode to 'Software only' things improved. However, still face freezing intermittently but frequency is much less.
I also use ASIO4all audio driver to monitor, though when I use BM presets sound is played through HDMI.
    My configuration is as below:
    Processor: Intel quad core i7 2600 K @ 3.40 GZ
    Memory: 8 GB
    Display Card: Nvidia Quardo 2000d
    OS: Windows 7 Professional x64
Edit Software: Adobe Production Premium CS 5.5 (PPro patch loaded)
SSD 128 GB system hard drive
    2 TB Media Drive Internal
Audio Interface: Mackie Tapco Firelink (not used when using Black Magic Ppro Presets)
Audio Driver: ASIO4ALL (not used when using Black Magic Ppro Presets)
Could any of you give some idea what could be wrong here?
    John

I have not used a Mini Monitor on CS5.5  (I have used others) but BM cards did work differently with CS5.5 to CS6, when Mercury Transmit was introduced.  They did not do realtime effects as well (as you are finding) and only output from Blackmagic sequences.  So most of the problems you are having, apart from the crashing, are normal.  The BM card is also seen as a sound card so it could be set to do the sound for the system, or for Premiere, even though the picture is not being transmitted (check the audio hardware preferences in Premiere to see which is being used for sound).
The crashes could be related to graphic card drivers.  CS5.5 won't be programmed to use the latest nVidia drivers, and we have had problems using the latest (300 series drivers) with CS5.5. which only show up with hardware (Blackmagic/Matrox etc) but work in software mode. The fact that you get crashes with effects may also point to this.  Try downgrading the quadro drivers and see what happens - to a version like 275 or 296 rather than a 300 series driver.

I set the brightness setting on my laptop monitor to the lowest setting, but it is still too bright. I fixed the desktop by putting a picture with dull colors on it. But the white websites on Firefox are hard on my eyes, way to bright. Can I change background color or brightness on Firefox screen?
