Black Clip White Clip under options

First of all what are the defaults for these settings?
I have been playing with these settings but there isn't reset option.
How do these affect raws rendering?
I've been getting mosaic artifacts in highlight areas in some of my images.
Especially visible after I use PS unsharp mask or smart sharpen.
Anyone else getting this probelm?

The default for both is 0.1%.
Another way to see this is to set the location of the Aperture library to somewhere else, when you restart Aperture it will come up with an empty library.

They do not effect RAW rendering at all. What they affect is the auto-levels buttons amove them - both the color and the lumenence versions.
The way auto-levels works is that it goes to the very edge of the image from one end or the other where you start seeing values, and set the starting/ending point there - stretching out the histogram in the process to be more full-bodied. The values in these two slider define how far into the existing hsitogram the points will be moved, to clip out the brightest and darkest parts of the image. The higher you make these values the more pure black/pure white pixels you'll get.
As for the mosiac, some cameras were getting that in RAW conversion. I do not think the update patched any RAW conversions, that will probably coem with an OS update that should also be along any day now. then you may see some imrovement, though again it would depend on what they update and what camera you have.

I used Multisim 12 with the same configuration and printed with a HP LaserJet 4250, but it seemed to be working well for me. There could be some incompatibility issue with your printer driver. A workaround you can try is to install a PDF Converter and print the file in color, then print the generated PDF file in black and white. There are many PDF Converters available, for example, CutePDF Writer (free)

My screen went from color to black and white spontaneously. I checked the grayscale and invert color options under Accessibility but neither were activated. Hard reset failed to cure the problem.

Iphone 5 with IOS 8 just switched from color display to black and white. Accessibility options were not changed and hard reset failed to cure

Problem solved by resetting all preferences, which was not my preference.

How to get AirPrint on iOS to print color documents in black and white?

I use iOS 6.0.1 and I use AirPrint on my iphone4s to print documents wirelessly to my printer. The problem is that if the document that I am printing has ANY color on it at all, the printer will print that part in color. Sometimes I actually want the document in black and white only. But AirPrint doesn't give us the option to do this , like OS X for Mac does.
Color ink is way too expensive to just be using "willy-nilly".
Apple , give us a black and white option on AirPrint !

It might be a problem with your printer's color profile. Did you try to set the color profile in the print dialogue to "black and white" (choose: "more options" in the print panel) ?

How best to print a color photo in black and white

I use the Black and White adjustment on a series of colour photo's I've taken. However when I go to print the photo's, colour still comes out in the print. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

How to create a black and white text clip?

I'm using pro Cs4 and was wondering how do I create a black and white text clip? When I used Vegas there was a clip I could put in, and simply write whatever I needed.
Still getting used to Pro Cs4 and was wondering if anybody can help me.

Do you wish to have a black field w/ white text, over part of an existing Video Clip, or do you want just a black field w/ white text and not have any Video showing through?
For the latter, just do a Title in Titler, w/ white text, and place that on the Timeline.
For the former, let us know the exact details, as that is slightly different.

[Edit] as a little background, when in Titler, you will see a "black" background, but that is really Transparent. However, if placed on the Timeline, with nothing below it, it will show black.

With green chroma concept, I removed the green background, now the green background is seen black. I don't want to have any other background clip, but I would like to change the background black to white. Please help me.

If you want the whole of the project background to be white, you can change the colour in FCP X preferences.
If you just want white for a section or clip, use a custom Generator from the Generators Library and change it to white in the Inspector.

Why can't I use the fade to black and white option in iMovie '11?

I have a project that uses a few photos with one minute duration timers I want to slowly fade from color to black and white but the fade to options are all greyed out... Am I over looking something or doing something wrong?

Sorry, but I wasn't suggesting that you use Fade to Black or Fade to White, just explaining what they do, given that you used the term "fade" in your first post. I assumed you may have been using the Fade to Black transition (which won't achieve what you want).
I suggested that you use Cross Dissolve, but I need to explain further how to achieve the effect you are looking for. First, you need to place a copy of the photo directly after the original. Make sure Ken Burns is turned off - use Fit. Now double-click on the copy to bring up the Clip Inspector. Click on Effects and select Black & White, then click Done. Drag a Cross Dissolve transition between the 2 clips (photos) and adjust the duration to your liking in the Inspector. Now you will see the effect your are looking for.
The key is to have an exact copy of the photo following the original, then change the copy to Black and White (or Sepia or any other effect), then insert the Cross Dissolve (or Cross Blur etc.) transition.

From the application being used to print, Click File > Print
Click Properties or Preferences to access the Printing Preferences Dialog.
Click the Advanced button at the bottom of the window.
Under Printer Features, Click the Print as Grayscale selection box and set as High Quality Grayscale or Black Ink Only.

How to have "black and white only" be the default print option

Just installed a new printer and would like to set it up so that the default print option is black and white only. How do I do this?

Can't find this anywhere. I'm brand new to Macs so I
might need more detailed instructions.

Every printer is a little different so you may have to do some searching through the settings. I don't have an HP Photosmart C6100 here so I can't say for sure where the setting is for that printer.
The closest thing I have to that model printer here is an HP OfficeJet 6310
In that model you choose Paper Type/Quality
In drop down menu under Color you select Gray Scale
Then you can still save the preset as I described in my previous post.
If the C6100 is different than that you may just have to search through option pages and explore the drop down selections.
Which I could be more specific, but they are all a little different.

Black between video clips

I'm trying to insert black between video clips and can't seem to find the option to do so. I've tried inserting a text in black with a black background, but it just outlines it. I tried inserting a 10 sec 'fade to black' transition, but you can't insert anything into that 10 seconds. The only thing I can think to do is to film in a dark room or with the lens covered and to import that.... does anybody know what I can do? Please help!!

Open the transitions menu (the square icon with 2 triangles to the right of the "T" (type) icon. All menu icons are located just below the right corner of your movie window. The music symbol, camera symbol, etc...
Choose the Fade to Black and drag it between the clips where desired effect should be. You can even double-click the transition once its placed into position and adjust the amount of fade time.

Printer Settings - black and white option missing

I was printing fine, then all of a sudden, the option to choose black and white is missing. It only prints in color. I just bought a Officejet 4620. How did it revert to this setting? How do I reset so that I can choose "Properties" and see the option to print color or black and white? It disappeared?

That's really strange to say the least!
At this point I'd recommend uninstalling the printer software. You can find a guide on how to completely uninstall the software here:

Importing pictures result in white clip

i have a problem with imovie HD (delivered with my g5)
when i import a picture from iphoto
i see the the options (burns effect settings...)
and preview
but when i'm realy importing, it just renders a white clip...
any one have an idea???

Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:
Many possible origins. Five most common:
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disc if it is less than 10Gb should raher have 25Gb
• Hard disc is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disc (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new account - log into this and re-try
• Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK
• Program miss-match: iMovie 5.0.1, Mac OS X.4.10 AND QuickTime 7.2 - is OK I think

Auto Adjust White Clip

Has anyone ever gotten this thing to work: Prefs: > Auto Adjust White Clip or Black Clip
I Need my highlights to be processed as 253 instead of 255 - is there something I'm missing?
Using Canon 1ds MKlll RAW files.

"Auto Levels" analyses your Image and applies a Levels adjustment based on a preset algorithm (similar to "Auto-enhance" in iPhoto, for example). The Auto adjust White Clip slider allows you to set what percentage of pixels will be set to full-luminance. (Hover your cursor over the slider for a ToolTip.)
This is very easy to see in practice. Select an Image with no adjustments applied, and duplicate it. Then with the Auto adjust White Clip slider set to the left, click "Auto" in the Levels Brick. Select the other Image, change the slider all the way to the right, and "Auto-Levels" that Image. Compare the two. Be sure to compare the histograms in the Levels Bricks: this shows you mathematically what the difference is.

How to print a selection of pages from a 3000 page PDF without having to scroll two wheels! Also is there a way to set printer options for just black and white? Seems like there is a lot missing here?

I have been using this for school work as much as possible and have come across a problem. With my lack of knowledge for apple it seems as though I can't navigate myself to a easy answer. The problem hits when I am printing pages off of a large document, and I don't want to print the entire document in color but I have no way "that I can find" for a black and white print option...
----- also a larger issue, when printing I need to select 1 page or even 20 pages... The time it takes to use a scroll wheel and the fact if you try and scroll fast sometimes you click off the screen then you have to start scrolling all over again... It seems like you would beagle to input from say page 1224 to 1236.... Instead I have a scroll a wheel? Just doesn't make sense...?

Yes, that fixed it, thanks! I had no idea they clashed like that. I ruthlessly purged all other tables of contents, and then used Layout > Table of Contents to create a new one, and it worked.
It made more sense after seeing in this thread that table of contents styles are more like presets or entities than styles.
