Black color of images replaced by 'flicking blue'

Hi there,
More problems with the screen of a Macbook 13". It's just 8 months old and is my first issue. Since last weekend I'm getting problems with the darkest areas of the images displayed. In fact is almost a range near black which changes to a sort of 'electric blue' instead. Other colors are slightly changed too, but this is the most clear problem. Please see the snapshot in this link
http://picasaweb.google.com/aortizlovera/Mac#
In the picture, these blue areas should be seen as black. It also flicks a bit.
Any guess? It happened without having done anything to cause it (no software update, not being hit, etc.). For me seems like a problem with the graphic card.
Cheers in anticipated.

I have the similar problem, but flicker pixels only on center of the screen.
Can you connect your macbook to external display? If there is no blue areas, may be it is problem with matrix.
Or can you replace RAM modules with other? Macbook use part of ram as video memory.

  • How can I create a black and white image similar to what I see in the "Replace Color" tool?

    Hi all, I'm just wondering how I can create a black and white image similar to what I see in the preview window of the "Replace Color" tool. See attached screenshot for clarification -- I need the grass to be black while the soil is white or vice versa. Any tips?

    One way is to use Select>Color Range
    Make a new Color Fill Layer>White
    (Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color)
    Put a new color fill layer below>black
    Just invert the layer mask on the top fill layer for the opposite effect.

  • Black color overlapping blues/greens ?

    Hey there. I have problems with colors. There is black overlapping blues/greens as shown on the image. This spiral is done with the same color airbrush style so the more saturated the area is the more black color percent appears. I have installed it 2 weeks ago and it was working well for kinda half that time. Suddenly that problem appeared without any idea why. I have tried reinstalling both graphic drivers and photoshop but doesn't help.

    Good news everyone!  The AMD Catalyst 13.2 beta 4 driver finally fixes the problem, if you want to go for the very latest instead of downgrading.
    I've been running the Catalyst 13.2 beta 4 driver for a few days now.  It seems pretty stable.

  • Using a script to get the color of a colorized Black & White Bitmap image

    I've been running into this wall for quite some time and would greatly appreciate any help that can given for it.
    I have an Illustrator script that runs inside of a BridgeTalk session within an InDesign script.  Yeah, it's complicated.  The upshot is that the Illustrator part opens up an EPS file, looks through all objects on a certain layer in that file, and returns an array of the colors used in it.  So, it looks at fill colors, stroke colors, gradient stops, etc.  One of the biggest stumbling blocks (next to PlugIn Items, which I'll ask about in a separate post) is getting the color of raster images.
    Most raster images, I realize, are going to be CMYK or RGB images, but our company mostly deals with either Grayscale images or Black & White Bitmaps that are embedded in the EPS file.  Those two allow the ability to colorize them by simply selecting them and then choosing a color, such as a spot PANTONE color from one of their color books.
    Now, I need the script to read the color that the raster image has been colorized with.  This works okay for images that have a GrayScale color space, as the script just looks at Colorant[0] of that image.  However, I run into a problem with Black & White Bitmap images.  Here's a piece of code that I try to make work with an EPS file that has a raster image:
    var document = app.activeDocument;
    for (var i = 0; i < document.layers[0].pageItems.length; i++) {
              // Stepping through each item on the layer.
              var currentItem = document.layers[0].pageItems[i];
              $.writeln("Current item is " + currentItem.typename);
              $.writeln("Number of channels is " + currentItem.channels);
              $.writeln("Color Space is " + currentItem.imageColorSpace);
              $.writeln("Colorized Grayscale? " + currentItem.colorizedGrayscale);
              $.writeln("Number of Colorants: " + currentItem.colorants.length);
              for (var j = 0; j < currentItem.colorants.length; j++)
                        $.writeln("Colorant number " + j + " is " + currentItem.colorants[j]);
              $.writeln("Its parent is " + currentItem.parent);
              $.writeln("Parent's typename is " + currentItem.parent.typename);
    This code runs successfully on an Illustrator file that has a Black & White Bitmap image on the top layer, but if you try and run it, you'll see the problem:  Even if you've colorized your Bitmap image with a PANTONE spot color (and the script even returns "true" on the line "Colorized Grayscale?"), Colorant number 0 is "Gray".  It should be the spot color assigned, not "Gray".
    Can anyone please help me figure out how to get the script to recognize the actual colorant of a Black & White Bitmap image in Illustrator?

    If you're a professional photographer with 50,000 pictures stored now and more coming all the time, you need to forget about using iPhoto and get yourself some professional-quality digital asset management software. iPhoto is not meant for people like you, and instead of providing a simple, elegant one-stop answer to all your needs, iPhoto is actually complicating your life.
    You need an application that will:
    - catalog ALL your images and keep track of where they are, no matter how many DVDs, folders, partitions or hard drives they're spread over;
    - display thumbnails of ALL of them, even when the DVD that contains them is not present in any drive, so you can select all the ones you want for a project;
    - find and copy (or export) the originals of all the files you've selected in the browser window, even if it means prompting you to insert the necessary DVDs for all of them.
    I suggest Googling "digital asset management software Macintosh" and seeing what turns up. I used to use an old version of Extensis Portfolio, and even that would have been better for your purposes than iPhoto is.

  • PSE 8 coloring a black and white image

    Okay, so I downloaded a free trial of PSE 8, so my experience with it is limited, which may contribute to my problem. I've watched tutorials on how to add color to a black and white photo using the paintbrush tool, though I haven't watched one for PSE 8.
    I'll make a new layer, paint part of the picture, and then add another layer. But when I click a different color to paint with, it changes the color of what I already painted, even though I'm on a different layer.
    Also when I tried to just save the image with one part painted, it didn't save it, and the image looked as it did originally.
    Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

    Hi,
    Are you using the right tool to paint on a layer?
    For coloring a black and white image, you need to save different areas of your image on a different layer and then use either Paint brush or a Paint bucket tool.
    It seems that you are selecting a wrong tool. For selecting Brush, press B.
    Then try painting on one part of the image and then go to the the color swatch present at the end of the tools panel on the left as :
    Now click on the foreground color swatch(on the top) to change the color with which you want to paint.This will not change the color of other layers on changing the color.
    Cheers

    I hired a commercial artist to create a color image for the cover of a self published book. I want a black and white image for the inside. The commercial artist has not responded to this request. How do I determine the format of the color image, I'm guessing it's Illustrator's formatting but I don't know. How can I find out if Illustrator will open the file and allow alterations? The image opens only in Apple's Pages software?

    rons,
    It seems that all you have is a raster image, presumable PNG24 or JPEG, in RGB.
    It may have been created as raster artwork in Photoshop, or it may have been created as vector artwork with the help of Illy, or as a mixture of vector and raster artwork in either application, or both combined.
    If you just need to have a raster representation in black and white based on the current colour image, you may try this, in a new RGB document (View>Smart Guides are your friends):
    1) File>Place the image (you may tick Link or untick and have it embedded);
    2) Create a rectangle with black fill (R = G = B = 0), at least as large as the image, and place it behind the image (you may ClickDrag with the Rectangle Tool between opposite corners, then Ctrl/Cmd+X+B);
    3) Select all and in the Transparnecy palette flyout click Make Opacity Mask with both Clip and Invert Mask ticked.

  • Embedded images replaced with blue square/question mark

    Guys,
    Am new to Macs so it's probably user error however, I regularly receive mails with embedding images in them. On my PC I had they came in fine however on my new Mac all the images get stripped out of the e-mail and saved as attachments. This means all the image place holders in the mail show as small blue squares with a white question mark in them and doing quick look on the attachments shows the correct images!
    Is there a config setting that stops mail stripping the images off as attachments when they're "in" an e-mail??
    Hope someone can help as this is bugging me now!!
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Don't know if this suggestion will help but..........
    I experienced problems with attaching images to outgoing mail. When I did this with my new iMac (OSX 10.4.11) the attached files were replaced with a blue square containing a question mark.
    I browsed various forums and found quite a few references to the same problem and I tried all the various 'fixes' to no avail.
    Earlier today I called Apple's tech support and spoke with Mujahid. He went through the problem, established that it was 'system wide' on my iMac and then he suggested that I trash Mail (v2.1.2) and re-install Mail (only Mail) from the disks that came with my Mac. I followed his instructions and after a shut down/restart cycle, Mail now functions correctly. When I attach an image file to an outgoing email, the file no longer appears as a blue square with ? mark but as the original image.
    I wonder if the same sort of fix might resolve the problems with Safari?
    Thanks to Mujahid.
    Regards.

  • Rotate Operator leaves black color around destination image

    Hi Everyone,
    I am creating a JPeg image which has two layers. First one is the background image layer. Second one is the photo which i want to put on the center on the back ground image. I am using overlay operator for this purpose.I have already done this thing.. BUT when i try to rotate the photo then a black color appears (in the area where part of un-rotated image was). I want the background image to be there instead of that black colour..
    I have searched a lot but did not find the solution.. Please help.
    Thanks & Best Regards,

    Hi,
    It works perfect.. i am doing the same thing using rotate operator in JAI... why that is not working... I am pasting both Rotate programs here.. One is in Java2D and 2nd in JAI.. Java2D is working but JAI rotate is leaving black area after rotation.
    Please tell where i am wrong in JAI or is it bug in JAI?

  • Is there a way to estimate amount of black color in an image using Photoshop?

    Hello everyone, is there a feature in Photoshop to estimate the amount of black color in a picture as a percentage? I tried Histograms analysis and Curves but I can't figure this out. I need this for some educational analysis. I would appreciate your feedback.

    One way is to open the histogram panel and choose the expanded view from the flyout menu, which you get when you click in the upper right hand corner. You will then see statistics about your image. One of them is labeled simply Pixels and that number is the total pixel count in your image. Assuming that you mean r=g=b=0 for black, place you cursor on the left most edge of the graph. When you are there the data will show Level 0 and the Counts number is the number of "black" pixels. The ratio, Counts/Pixels, give you the % of black pixels in the image. Similarly, move your cursor to any other level to find the number of pixels that have that level in the image.

  • Modifying colors in images

    I am trying to create a vi in Labview 7.1 that will upload an image from a jpeg file, modify the color and luminance of the image, and then output the image as a jpeg file. I am currently able to input and output the image to a file, but I am having difficulty modifying the colors of images. I read in a manual that the color control was a 32 bit array, but when I try to make my own array and wire it to the color control on the image block, it breaks the wire and won't let me make the condition. How do you design a proper array to set color and which array elements correspond to red, blue, green, hue, luminance, and saturation of the image? I am able to manually adjust the color and set my own color in rectangles, but I wanted to create an automated process with an array to automatically generate a range of colors.
    The other problem I was having was getting the image to be displayed on the visual panel of Labview. I can import and export the jpeg file, but I cannot get it to be displayed on the grid. I would greatly appreciate any assistance and advice you have.
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    If you are going to do some heavy image manipulation, you may wish to look into a LV toolkit called IMAQ, which allows you to go that way.
    If not, you can start by using the standard picture VIs (Graphics & Sound palette), which I assume you already do to read and write the file.
    LV treats a picture in one of three formats:
    1. Picture - the blue wire. You will need to to use this for any manipulation using the picture VIs.
    2. Pixmap. A 2D numeric array in which each cell holds the color value of the coresponding pixel.
    3. Flattened pixmap. A cluster holding all the picture information in which the pixel data is stored as 1D array.
    There are VIs for converting all these formats.
    To replace colors you can simply use Replace Array Subset to replace specific cells either in the 1D or 2D array or use the Draw point VI. The main problem you will have is that you will need to calculate everything on your own. If you want to modify the entire image, you can go over the array in a loop and (for example) increase all values by 1000 and see what that does.
    All of this can be found from reading the help files for the VIs (right click>>Help), which is what I suggest you do to learn more about this.
    You can display an image simply by converting to the first format right clicking the VI output (picture) and selecting Create>>Indicator. because it's a picture format, a picture indicator will automatically be created.
    It sound as if you don't have much experience in LV. Also, try searching this site and google for LabVIEW tutorials. Here and here are a couple you can start with. You can also contact your local NI office and join one of their courses.
    In addition, I suggest you read the LabVIEW style guide.
    Try to take over the world!

  • Changing color of Image in PSE 8.0

    I have a logo design that is black on white.  I'd like to change the black to another color - in this case, blue.  I wqas able to do it, but it ended up being quite convoluted.  What are some simple ways to change the color of a selected area in Elements 8.  I'm using a PC, BTW.
    Thanks!

    Thank you.  I found another way that's even simpler.  I chose the paint brush, set the mode to lighten, and then just painted over the image with blue - the white didn't pick up any of the blue, but the black did.

    I have a HP Photosmart 5510 Series device.
    I have cleaned printheads, changed the ink/toner, checked the vents and still I can't get the black color to print properly without being REALLY faded or sometimes not even showing.
    I have read numerous articles for help and still no luck.
    Suggestions?

    Hi Kkenny,
    I have a feeling the printer may be printing from the computer using composite black. For black and white images and photos, a blend of colors called "composite black" may be used to achieve significantly better image quality and smoother gray tones than can be accomplished with black inks alone. - Source
    My suspicion is that the black ink cartridge itself may not be working or the printhead is not letting the black ink through to the page. Let's use the following links to begin our troubleshooting journey!
    Please complete all of the steps in the following document; Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages. Although I hope this resolves the issue, it might not. As you have a 5520, If the issue persists,  I would suggest calling HP Phone Support regardless of whether it is in or out of warranty as you may require a replacement printer.
    The number to call HP is 1-800-474-6836 for Canada and US, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.

  • Preserving Black color values when converting color PDF to grayscale

    I opened a full colored PDF document (exported from InDesign using Profile: Euroscale Coated v2) in Photoshop and tried to convert it to grayscale (image > mode > grayscale) and noticed that the black color values changed. text for example that was 100% black in the PDF document became a screen of 91% black.
    is there a way to preserve color values when converting full color PDF documents to grayscale?
    or in other words WHICH is the correct way to convert full color PDF documents or full color InDesign files to grayscale?
    I am using Adobe CS 3, Acrobat 8 Professional, on Mac OS 10.5.5

    Before you open the PDF in Photoshop, set PS's Color Settings to Photoshop 5 Default Spaces. When you open the PDF set the Mode to Grayscale in the Import dialog. Just remember to reset your color settings when you're done.
    Edit: Also, if you want to match black percentages as well as 100% black, set the Photoshop Color Settings to Photoshop 5 Default Spaces with the Gray working space to Dot Gain 20%.
