Black display after disconnecting HDMI from TV

I usually connect my Macbook pro to my TV using HDMI cable, the problem is when i finish, and disconnect the HDMI from my laptop i get a black screen but the laptop is still running, and i cant do anything except hitting the power button to shut it down and turn it on again.
What's the solution to this problem?
Regards

So I was able to get my computer to open in safe mode...did some searching on the support site, and found this fix which I decided to try, as the symptoms were all the same as my issue. Which, by the way, seems to be from an update, rather than the TV cause that I thought it was!
Thanks to TracyToronto!!
Start computer holding up COMMAND + S  (puts you into single user mode)
In the prompt enter: mount –uw /    then hit return (please note spaces in command)
Enter: cd /Library/Preferences then hit return (please note spaces AND the Capital L and P – it is case sensitive)
Enter: mv com.apple.loginwindow.plist com.apple.loginwindow.plist.old (please note spaces) then hit return
Enter: Reboot then hit return
Once the computer restarts tap the trackpad (so you see the cursor) then enter the first letter of the username, which would be a in my case (it is best to use the administrator account) then hit ENTER
Now enter in the password , then press enter

  • Blank/Black screen after waking up from sleep mode

    Hi there,
So this is my first time using a macbook. I purchased a macbook pro with retina display in August of this year. I have never had this problem but after i have updated to the new Yosemite OS, my problem keeps happening. I will be using my computer to work on assignments. After, ill put my mac to sleep and close the lid screen. When i come back and turn it on, it shows a bank/black screen. The keyboard lights up but nothing shows on the screen. So i end up close my mac and reopening it again and it still is blank screen. After a few tries opening and closing, i type my login password even when the screen is black. After, i close it again and reopen it and now my screen shows my background and login information. I enter the password and it works fine. I'm not sure if this a problem that needs to be looked at? I have taken care of my computer since day 1 so im not sure why this problem is happening. Any help/input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    Hi ellaine,
Lets check your energy saver settings:
About Energy Saver sleep and idle modes in Mac OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2412
Regarding your second question, it may be that your display is set to sleep before the screen saver starts. That would cause the screen saver to never display.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

Is PowerRam the brand of these RAM modules?
If yes I never heard about this brand I dont think its high quality module
Can you test it with high quality modules from Kingston? Or from an authorized service provider they have pretested modules?

  • HUGES problems with display after waking up from hibernate mode

    Hello everybody,
I hope that somebody can help me soon, because in the last 15 days I'm reaaaaallly annoyed with MAC's issues.
In the last 15 days it seemd I had to reboot it a lot of times, because it freezes, it crashes, etc...
Neverthless what happened today it passes all the limits: in the last period, because of these often crashes, I turn the mac off at night, on the other hand when I go to work I simply close the display and let it hibernates.
Today when I came back after work I opened it and it was amazing:
it has a different desktop!! With different icons in the dock, diferent icons in the top-right part, and it was freezed! I had to force it to shut down, restart it...and since then, I had huge problem with display.
It shakes everything while scrolling mails, web pages or icons in the dock. If I scroll between desktops, it takes year lights more than yesterday!!
Nothing happen if I restart as many time as I want.
In my simple opinion it seems a virus issue, but..as far as I know, there is no need to install an AV on a mac, right???
I tried to record some of these probls with the QT, but when you start recording all the desktop, it seems A LITTLE better, smoothing all these shaking effects. NEverthless they are still noticeable.
I'll try to attach a video as a dropbox link, 'cause I can't attach it on the message (it is denied)

I am going to add my problem to this as I believe it fits and may add to the conversation.
I have a MacBook Pro, am using Parallels, and have an issue waking it up from sleep.
    Circumstances:
I close the lid and walk away from the device in my office. When I return, (over night or an hour later) I open the lid, and if nothing happens swipe the touchpad or press a key, the power light changes from pulsating to steady. then in less than 15 seconds it goes back to pusating. The display never energizes, only remain black.
I usually try opening and closing several times, and occaisionally that will work. Other times, I hold the power key until I hear the drive halt, then turn it on. The grey screen will display, then blue, then just before it gets to the log in, the screen goes black (not energized) and the light pulsates.
I have tried the PRAM reset and Safe Mode starts with no luck.
*Now the really wierd thing.* I decieded to contact Apple support on line and pay for help (yes that is weird in an of itself for me). As I began the process it came to the part for me to enter my serial number. With the lid open, I turned the MacBook on its side to try to read the number and the screen energized and the password unlock prompt was waiting for me to enter the password.
    Observations
I had read where the light sensor could be blocked by dirt or the light in the room was too dim, but I clean the screen and there is plenty of light. Dales Post is the first that I have seen Parallels and the Sudden Motion Sensor. That makes some sense to me because of what happened when I turned it on its side. I have verified that it happens regardless of using Parallels. as teh last time I did it I had closed out of all my VMs and I believe exited Parallels.
I am going to try the deleting the power preferences file and will report back.

  • X121e - Black screen after wake up from suspend to RAM

I am the owner of a ThinkPad X121e - Notebook Type 3051-5QG (AMD E350 Processor). After a BIOS - Update from 1.07 to 1.16 I have a problem to wake it up from the S3 - Suspend to RAM function.
The Notebook restarts and the fan is working but there is no beep and the screen stays black. There is no way to get it working except a complete hard shutdown pushing the on/off-Button.
Does anybody know the problem and has a solution? Or do I have to wait and hope for the next BIOS-Version to solve the problem? I would like to downgrade to 1.07 BIOS, but I am afraid that this is not possible.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Since 2012-12-02 Lenovo has published an new Bios-Version 1.17 .
I installed the update today and the problem is gone. I hope there is no new bug in this Bios-Version, but up to now everything seems to work properly.

  • Tecra S5 - Black display after startup of windows XP

    Hello,
I had problems with the display driver last month after new updates, the original driver of the display was gone.
After some restores of the old versions the display was working but not with the original display driver. I had fount the driver on the notebook and trait to install this again, but something is gone wrong.
When i start the PC than the bios password is ask, filled in, windows XP is started and than the display is dark without courser. Look of the display drive is not started automatically by start up off windows XP.
What can i do? Is te only option run the recovering CD's of the PC?

    Hey,
As Macius wrote, can you start the notebook in safe mode?
In safe mode no drivers will be loaded so it should be possible to use safe mode if its just a display driver issue.
If can boot properly into safe mode, you should remove the current display driver and then install newest version from official Toshiba website.
    Usually it should work

  • Black screen after coming back from standby

    Hi people,
Today after I put my computer to sleep in winxp, when I tried to wake it up, it gave me this black screen(the screen is off), the sleep LED light is off, but I can hear the system running. When I close the lid, the LED light is on, but when I life the lid, the light went off again. Pressing the power button did nothing. Pressing the dimmer screen or dim keyboard buttons didnt work. I've to force shut up my computer. Please help. This worries me. Thanks.
Also another bug in mac os x. After restarting from bootcamp winxp to mac os x, my screen resolution is wrong, it has black area on the top and bottom of the screen.

    Update:
My files were saved last time, but the file is not updated when I rebooted back in xp.
Today my winxp went to sleep, and I clicked the mouse a few times to make it wake up. But it froze on the log in screen, though I never set windows to log out and it always did that after I put it to sleep. Now that I think of it, I had no problem making it sleep and logging back in before. I saw this problem since yesterday. I haven't install or make any changes to my os x or winxp. My winxp is installed with service pack 2, and I haven't update it since then. I don't know if it's necessary. Any advice?

  • Screen remains blacks even after waking up from Sleep mode

    Hi,
I've had my Macbook Pro for over a year now and it hasn't given me any problems until recently. The screen would remain black when I open up the laptop to wake it up from sleep mode. There would be no response even when I press random keys. When I close the laptop again, the white light at the bottom right corner lights on (when it's supposed to "breathe" while sleeping). The light goes out when I open up the laptop. The only thing I could do is to restart the computer.
What is the problem? Are there any ways to rectify this?

I am going to add my problem to this as I believe it fits and may add to the conversation.

  • Mac Mini won't boot up after disconnecting it from iMac

I have disconnected my Mac Mini from the iMac I had it connected to, and now it won't boot up when I turn it on. Do I need to hold down a key combination to get it to boot from it's own operating system again?

I have disconnected my Mac Mini from the iMac I had
it connected to, and now it won't boot up when I turn
it on. Do I need to hold down a key combination to
get it to boot from it's own operating system again?
You should not have to hold down any key to get it to boot to an installed copy of MacOS, though if you hold the option key down, it should take you to the Startup Manager which will give you a list of available MacOS volumes it can boot from. If it doesn't show any, then you don't have a bootable MacOS on your mini.
Are you getting anything on your screen when you are trying to boot, such as a folder with a question mark?

  • DSC-WX350 shows leftover "Unable to Display" after removing photos from card

I'm having a problem with the DSC-WX350 seeing "ghosts" of photos after they've been removed to a computer. If I pop the camera's card out, stick it in a card reader, and move photos off the camera onto my computer, once I put the card back in the WX350 seems to see false files of the relocated photos: it acts like they're still there (info, date taken, keeps them in the photo count, etc.) but only shows a grey "Unable to Display" error. I then have to manually delete each erroneous entry manually. As you can imagine, doing so every time I move photos off the camera is a pain in the ******. I've looked through all the folders on the card and don't see anywhere that any leftover file markers or anything else to cause this issue would be. Any ideas why this is happening? (FYI, the card was freshly formatted properly prior to using it in the camera.) Thanks ahead of time.

Bob, I do not think you understand, or didn't read my post. I am not interested in recovering photos, because I already transferred them to my computer, and used the program in the computer to delete the photos I just transferred. After this is done, I put the SD card back in the WX350, and the Unable to Display message comes up when trying to view other photos just taken. This never happens when using my RX100M2.  I think the reason is the firmware written for the bionz X processor has a flaw in it, which is too bad because Sony never releases firmware updates for cameras unless they cost a bazillon dollars. The WX350 is not the only Sony camera to have this issue, it happens with others using the latest processor. The only way around this is to reformat the SD card each time I transfer photos to my computer using non Sony software, which is a royal PIA if I do not want to delete everything on the SD card. Are you guys too proud to come up with firmware updates? Issuing firmware updates is not something to be ashamed of, it shows you care about your customers.  David

  • Ipod nano connection message displayed after disconnection

how do I get my ipod nano to respond? It was connected to my macbook pro and wasn't showing up in iTunes. I searched for a way to eject it but it didn't respond, so I just disconnected it, and the same message, "Connected, Eject before disconnecting" was still on the screen. It's been several hours and Apple wanted me to pay $29 just to solve an issue that if I'm not mistaken has happened with other nano's and regular ipods. How do I solve this? This has never happened.

Did you try a hard reset of the device yet?

  • Monitor does not correctly display after waking up from suspend

    Hello,
Awesome WM. I use systemctl suspend to put my computer to sleep. It works fine, however, when I press the power button on my system unit, the computer wakes up but the image is distorted completely so I cannot see what is where... Quiting Awesome WM (win + shift + q, if I remember correctly) and logging back helps, but is not really convenient. I have tried to find a solution for the problem and, as you most likely surmised, with no success.

  • Macbook Pro dark screen after disconnecting from Cinema Display

    Dear all,
    the issue I am having:
    - after disconnecting from Cinema display (having first put my Macbook Pro in "sleep" mode) I just ca't make the Macbook pro scren show anything....black display
    - but is it really asleep? NO!!! It just STILL believes it's connected to the Cinema Display
That's what I though was happening, so I thought: "if I now plug in the thunderbolt-to-VGA dongle that I use for the videoprojector then the screen might come back... and.... Voilá! It comes back, BUT starts flickering until in the end it just dissappears....
I can reproduce the error all the time. Worse than that: a reboot does not help at all.
Looks like there is an internal hardware switch that must be left "engaged" and then the Mac just believes it is connected to an External screen and sends the signal though the thuderbolt port instead of through the screen!!!
    WEIRD error/bug or whatever!!
I have no idea how to make this reach the Apple guys.... I tried to report a Bug but they asked me to join in as Apple developer which I just can't do (for working issues).
Can anyone tell me if they have had this problem, and whether Apple is taking care of it?
(this reminds me of an issue with an internal switch with the headphones in my old MacBook Pro.... after disconnecting the headphones, the internal switch was not being disengaged, so sound would NEVER come out as it was being sent to the headphones instead of to the speakers... Same problem here but with the Image??? :-((( )
    Thanks a lot.

Sometimes I experience the same after disconnecting my 24" display (in seldom cases, the mouse cursor is not painted correctly, as well).
Can you check - when it happens - if in System Profiler > Hardware > Graphic > Quartz Extreme is listed as 'supported'. I found it to be 'not supported' when the scrolling and display behaves strangly. Also the Menu Bar is not transparent any more.
Next to rebooting, logout and login again fixed the issue for me. But I am also looking for a better fix/explanation.
